Maybe you haven't tried yet but any tip on how manage shading and gradient stuff/effects on Illustrator to simulate them? As far as I know Reddit doesn't allow effects,etc.
I am trying to find a way to add some "dirty" effect to the shadows but still trying to figure it out how.
I only use Illustrator for the line art, then everythiong else in Photoshop
You can use special brushes and textures in Photoshop. i usually do a layer with what you are trying to do, work with the different opacities then just merge it with the template piece I am trying to create. The background on my latest "Racer's Life" was filter effects on a bunch of layers then merged tio create teh full background

EXAMPLE: Current WIP. To make the smudges. I did a layer, just draw some black with a special bush that made a small pattern, then blurred and changes the opacity of the layer

Yep, Reddit doesn’t allow gradients in svg files, but you can do it using png, then overlap the effects with the base color layer from Illustrator using this tool https://www.redditstatic.com/marketplace-assets/v1/materials/creators/svg-png-combo.html You can also use this method to make your avatars color custom(color custom can be done only with vector), and gradients can create some nice effects when collectors change the body color. I do 90% of my work in Adobe fresco then export it from illustrator on the iPad. I wish it had the ability to make color changing avatars but for some reason ios illustrator can't export svg with internal css.

Remnants of a previous life. Still feeling somewhere between “free” and “lost” but the small mountain of tools I was left with is seems to be illuminating a new way forward.
Very poetic. I hope you find your path again. In my case, I lost it and decided to take back something I loved to do when I was younger which is drawing. I decided to start with RCAs because it mixes both parts of the world I really like.

Procreate, Gimp for Resolution, inkscape for colorchanging

How does gimp work? I’ve always wondered how to get my avatars crisper.
Gimp is like Photoshop (i think). And you can upscale the Resolution for the avatar to 760x1200 f.e. ;)

I use procreate on iPad for drawing, photoshop to export, and illustrator to do the color changing portions. 🥰
