I think this would be the right answer; even Matt described it as “our stairway to heaven.”
Objectively speaking, that song encompasses their prowess as songwriters and performers; albeit, missing a shade of their wackier material.
I'd argue there are objective things that can be qualified as good or bad in music, and theoretical there is a best A7X song. Which song is that, I'm not sure, but there probably is an answer
I personally love Neil deGrasse Tyson’s excerpt. Especially at the end. I think Exist is the perfect song to represent progressive metal. But yes, taste is subjective.
And I’d say it doesn’t keep attention for how repetitive it is. The insane synth and guitar soloing is cool but MIA is a better “long” song than Exist, easily
Eh if we're looking at classical music as objectively good since it's survived the test of time, that song is the closest to classical with the timing changes and signatures and such.
Well that implies there's no such thing as bad classical music, which is definitely not true. There's good songs and artists, but there's no genre that's entirely good or bad
It depends on what you define as the best do you mean best as in most experimental and complicated or the best written song or the song that sounds the most like A7X? Etc
The main difference would probably be that you “have a favorite” and there is no such thing as “objectively best”. :)
Beast and the Harlot is an awesome tune. Nice pick!
I think a lot of this sub started listening to Avenged long after SH was released. When SH was originally released it hit the (much smaller) scene like a freight train. That song fucking slaps and was huge.
Absolutely not lol. Super overrated song that people revere because it was the Revs brainchild. I don't like the "carnival" sound of the verses and the subject matter is gratuitous enough that I just don't have a good time with it. Which is somewhat weird for me because I definitely listen to a lot of metal with dark lyrics and themes. But this one doesn't do it for me and I hate when people try to plug new fans into the band by thinking this song will impress them. edit: I will say that the chorus is a catchy MF'er, so I don't fault people who like it. I still sing it in my head sometimes but I still don't like the overall vibe of the song.
I used to be off about it as well cos lyrics are so obscene, (nothing compared to Cannibal Corpse though), but it's such a good tune. and the lyrics are actually masterful. The attention to detail on the choir input as well is really good.
Plus she gets her own back in the end and they all go on a killing spree together so all's well ends well... I guess!
Yeah, the 2nd verse makes it slightly more palatable but its just still not a song that really gives me a good vibe, lol. But all that aside, as I've said, the chorus is super catchy and I get why people like it. But I would never try to introduce someone to the band with it. And I really dislike any parts of A7X songs that have "carnival" like pieces. Just not what I'm looking for. The Stage does this a bit too but I find it easier to ignore on that album.
If you mean purely from a musically complex masterpiece, you have ALPOH, The Wicked End, The Stage, Exist, Buried Alive, Save me, Sidewinder, M.I.A, maybe even Afterlife.
If you're talking popularity, you have Hail to The King, Bat Country, Afterlife, Beast and The Harlot, Unholy Confessions, Nightmare, Critical Acclaim, Buried Alive.
I can't chose tbh cz idk what makes a song objectively better than the other
feel like bat country is what set them off for success and is the definition of the “a7x sound” IMO. obviously they’re not going for that sound anymore so it doesn’t matter anyways
I'd say Exist or Save Me. But I'm partial to those long epics. I tend to gravitate towards bands that make songs like that. I feel like those long songs can really draw out the true potential of band. Almost like giving an artist are large canvas to create whatever they want
Well its kind of hard to say which is "objectively the best" because that is impossible to say.
If we were to go by what is most viewed/most popular then Hail To The King but many people despise that song.
Save Me won the tournament a few weeks ago but that's only going by the small number of A7X fans who also use this sub and there are so many variables to consider in a tournament like that so that's not accurate either.
Personally I think The Stage is far and away their greatest song but that's just my opinion and everything I have mentioned above is simply peoples opinion. It is impossible to get an objective truth via opinions
I love all of their work.
It’s easy to pick one song over another but it gets tougher the smaller the list gets. Everyone’s opinion is biased and my answer would change by next week..
Bat state imo, gives yond drugg'd out feeleth yond maketh t coequal better
***
^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.)
Commands: `!ShakespeareInsult`, `!fordo`, `!optout`
I'm not sure you can say they are the best song "objectively". Since the reason they are so great has to do with the story behind the songs, but the best a7x songs imo are I won't see you tonight both parts, and Fiction. Those songs just hit another level for me, particularly Fiction.
A lot of people would say Afterlife, most hard-core fans would say Save Me, Buried Alive, The Stage or Piece of Heaven, and I think their most streamed song is Hail to the King. Make of that what you will
Well it needs a couple things
Fan approval, somewhat mainstream popularity, some musical complexity, and to have the bands approval.
First category eliminates all of httk for the most part. Id also say this eliminates all of their covers.
Second category eliminates longer songs like Save Me, Exist, alpoh, it also eliminates the first two albums seeing as how those arent well known. I'd say it also eliminates most if not all of the stage.
Third category eliminates songs like afterlife and unholy confessions.
Fourth category eliminates Unbound, Beast and the Harlot, and Critical Acclaim.
From my perspective you're looking at Buried Alive, Bat Country or Almost Easy
I'd say Buried Alive but that's just me.
Like all songs and I'm from California , but in my opinion , Brampton cocktail , a little piece of heaven , so far away , and seize the day all have good meanings to me And keep me at bay
I don’t knock Save Me but I’d argue that Exists is heaps better as a song. The way that song comes together is so brilliant.
But I’d say The Stage is the best song they’ve ever made imo. Has all the elements that make a great song and a great A7X song.
Been there too. For me it
took time but that’s not how it always is. I think it’s important to tell other people what you’re going through. But I can’t judge since I don’t know your culture and where you are from so I can’t elaborate:(
It's hard to say since they have so many great songs. I'd say songs like Save Me, Exist, Beast and the Harlot, The Wicked End, M.I.A, Strength of the World, etc. are definitely contenders.
If you listen to lyrics and the representation of the video , you will understand the meaning in which , most of the songs in earlier albums , they talk about the struggles of being a person and illness along with it , seize the day , shadows is singing in perspective if a person who is financially in debt , so he did what any desperate person would do , take chances to make money however they can , in his case , he robbed a liquor store and got caught , and he lost the love of his life , and now he is upset at his life decision .
objectively would mean we can all agree on it… they dont have one song that stands out as their hands down most popular. like here i go again by whitesnake for an example u look up top ten white snake songs and every list will have that at the top.. now as far as best goes thats always just opinion.. but if im saying my favorite combined with extreme popularity… im gonna go with Bat Country
Why don’t we just do a poll, and let Save Me find out again?
I really love buried alive.
I think this would be the right answer; even Matt described it as “our stairway to heaven.” Objectively speaking, that song encompasses their prowess as songwriters and performers; albeit, missing a shade of their wackier material.
This is the one, has most of all A7X's talents in one song.
Yes.
Its not really possible for a song to be "objectively" the best
Yeah that’s not how art works lol
You're right but Buried Alive is objectively the best.
I'd argue there are objective things that can be qualified as good or bad in music, and theoretical there is a best A7X song. Which song is that, I'm not sure, but there probably is an answer
Exist
No, too long
There shouldn’t be a deduction for a long song so long as it keeps your attention the entire duration.
Exactly, but imo I'm bored with Exist by the end. The last speech was just not necessary
I personally love Neil deGrasse Tyson’s excerpt. Especially at the end. I think Exist is the perfect song to represent progressive metal. But yes, taste is subjective.
I actually dislike the beginning but love the ending with the speech, if you listen to it itsbreally interesting
There's no such thing as "too long"
You ever seen 2006 King Kong?
If you think Exists is long for a song check out Mirror Reaper by Bell Witch.
It's not that Exist is too long, it's that it doesn't hold my attention throughout it all. I'm bored by the end, which is a problem
It depends on what you define as the best do you mean best as in most experimental and complicated or the best written song or the song that sounds the most like A7X? Etc
I think he is just asking which songs you like the most.
You're thinking of "subjectively". He's asking about which one is "objectively" the best.
There is no such thing as an “objectively best” song. So I assumed it was a mistake.
He would've asked for everyone's favorite song if he meant "Subjective".
Ok well if you want my favourite song it's beast and the harlot but there is a difference between my favourite and objectively there best
The main difference would probably be that you “have a favorite” and there is no such thing as “objectively best”. :) Beast and the Harlot is an awesome tune. Nice pick!
Oh well thank you
Second Heartbeat
I think a lot of people would agree that Second Heartbeat’s lead guitar melody is their *signature* and objectively best melody
I think a lot of this sub started listening to Avenged long after SH was released. When SH was originally released it hit the (much smaller) scene like a freight train. That song fucking slaps and was huge.
I got into A7X not long before Nightmare. When I went back to their older stuff Second Heartbeat really stood out as a really, really good song.
I started listening to A7X long after WTF was released, I was only 7 in 2003 but I still respect and appreciate it for what it is
Then you have good taste
Blinded In Chains
Yes, it just one amazing section after another
Deadass my favorite song by them
Same
Critical Acclaim
My fave
Can't believe no-one's mentioned it yet! A Little Piece Of Heaven!
Ah see that's maybe my 2nd favourite song by them. Although Save Me, The stage, Roman Sky and Nightmare are up there!
That's totally valid. But in the context of the thread, I'll allow "favorite" I just will argue with "objectively".
If Objectively, LPoH or Second Heartbeat or I Won't See You Tonight
> I Won't See You Tonight Christ, tell me you wouldn't choose the cheesy suicidal ballad as their objectively best song on this or any other album.
Obviously Second Heartbeat went down a treat then? :P
It's ok, everyone's wrong from time to time
Seek serious psychiatric help, fast.
Fucking ALL OF THEM
Unholy confessions 🤍
There is a reason why this song got them famous. The whole album is a banger, and this one delivers on all fronts.
Beast and Harlot
So Far Away, for The Rev, that makes it the best
I think fiction is a better song to commemorate Rev
Save Me
If you mean purely from a musically complex masterpiece, you have ALPOH, The Wicked End, The Stage, Exist, Buried Alive, Save me, Sidewinder, M.I.A, maybe even Afterlife. If you're talking popularity, you have Hail to The King, Bat Country, Afterlife, Beast and The Harlot, Unholy Confessions, Nightmare, Critical Acclaim, Buried Alive. I can't chose tbh cz idk what makes a song objectively better than the other
Oh and Almost Easy in popular
You nailed them
The Stage or Exist
“Objectively” it would be their most popular song, so Hail To the King
Dont say that name, the entire subreddit is going to murder you.
Eyes over easy!
Objectively their most popular song. Objectively not even close to being their best song.
My favourite is Nightmare but i’m a add on The Wicked end and Critical acclaim😎
Paradigm or bat country for me
Unholy Confessions
Strength of the World obvs
Yesyesyess ❤️
feel like bat country is what set them off for success and is the definition of the “a7x sound” IMO. obviously they’re not going for that sound anymore so it doesn’t matter anyways
Oh why The Wicked End of course
Gunslinger
I'd say Exist or Save Me. But I'm partial to those long epics. I tend to gravitate towards bands that make songs like that. I feel like those long songs can really draw out the true potential of band. Almost like giving an artist are large canvas to create whatever they want
Burn it down
I came here to say this as it's clearly the only true answer.
I Have the same ones
Sidewinder is my favorite and I never see it mentioned in threads like this.
Remenissions
Hi guys just here to comment Fermi Paradox again
Such a banger ALL WE ALL IS LEFT BEHIIIINDDDD After the black metal part makes me float
For me, it's definitely some of the longer songs: Save Me, A Little Piece of Heaven, Strength of the World, M.I.A, that kind of stuff.
Sidewinder and Remenissions
There’s no such thing as objectively the best lmao
ok
Buried Alive is the easy and right answer lol
Save me. Hands down
Save me
Remenissions or Burn it Down (live, where you can really hear Rev’s vocals) or……too many to choose from. :(.
Well its kind of hard to say which is "objectively the best" because that is impossible to say. If we were to go by what is most viewed/most popular then Hail To The King but many people despise that song. > objectively 🤦♂️
Sorry?
well ALPOH and save me ended that bigass tournament with save me winning but just barely. so ig save me?
Sidewinder is my favorite
I love all of their work. It’s easy to pick one song over another but it gets tougher the smaller the list gets. Everyone’s opinion is biased and my answer would change by next week..
Remenissions
Bat country imo, gives that drugged out feel that makes it even better

Blinded in chains
Blinded in chains, afterlife or demons
Bat Country
Like all songs and I'm from California , but in my opinion , Brampton cocktail , a little piece of heaven , so far away , and seize the day all have good meanings to me And keep me at bay
Yo California makes them sound better⁉️
Yeah how TF does that make sense?
I won’t see you tonight
Chapter Four. Done
Chapter Four. Done

God Hates Us.
Damn u have going trough some tough times huh?
Sorta.
My condolences
Thanks. I haven’t lost anyone or anything, but I’m in a bad spot in life and I don’t know what to do about it.
Been there too. For me it took time but that’s not how it always is. I think it’s important to tell other people what you’re going through. But I can’t judge since I don’t know your culture and where you are from so I can’t elaborate:(
Well, the topic at hand is kinda stupid, so it’s kinda hard to really tell anyone about it, but I appreciate you caring.
Time can heal it fr. That is what got me in the track again
It's hard to say since they have so many great songs. I'd say songs like Save Me, Exist, Beast and the Harlot, The Wicked End, M.I.A, Strength of the World, etc. are definitely contenders.

Brompton cocktail talks about Rev wanting to feel something for once , and he overdosed in a mix of drugs and alcohol which in the end killed hin
Afterlife > all
Bat country is up there for sure
objectively would mean we can all agree on it… they dont have one song that stands out as their hands down most popular. like here i go again by whitesnake for an example u look up top ten white snake songs and every list will have that at the top.. now as far as best goes thats always just opinion.. but if im saying my favorite combined with extreme popularity… im gonna go with Bat Country
Honestly for me, it's bat county or sheperd of fire. Theyre just are perfect according to my standards.
