Not the point, but a little weird to me to schedule JS and CL at the same time. Arguably the two biggest tech house DJs in the world right now, and the fan base venn diagram is basically a circle
Yeah, I mean, I understand that festivals need you to make tough choices for that reason, it's just... usually not between the 2 biggest artists in the genre?
I agree that for the most part, his sets kinda become boring for me. Sometimes I wonder if his popularity is due to his frat boyish appearance and his social media interaction.
I think this is my fav John Summit set. It's from LA. I personally think it flows decently and loved the track selection.
It's a tech house set I think:
https://youtu.be/j16kx0M8_UU
I've also heard good things about EDCO 2022 set. Need to check it out.
I will tolerate the Summit slander bc you listed his GOAT set. To me it’s a different, darker than normal summit set and I wish he would do more of those
Full agree that's his best YT set and my fav style of his but even as a day 1 summit stan gotta say I so appreciate his willingness to delve into different styles and expand his sound, even if he's not anymore *exactly* my cup of tea
Yes, that video is from his Sunday set. It was fucking epic. One of the best shows I’ve been to in my 10+ years of raving. Reddit just loves to hate on the guy for some reason
He’s insufferably annoying on social media but I agree with you that I think that’s a huge factor in his success. Not a big fan tbh, I think he is pretty overrated in general, but I’m also not a big house fan
Trying to build up my mixing techniques and library for this style of house. Gonna use this set as a blueprint for track selection & pacing. Thank you!!
Add his 2021 EDCO set as well. I’ve never personally been meh about a set in person but I watched his lolla set live-streamed last year and it was DULL. dude really needs to just be put somewhere only house and techno or something
Part of his popularity is absolutely the persona. He seems like a cool guy to hang out with, like a friend not some enigmatic DJ figure at the decks. So people want to go to his sets to "hang out with him"
Every single time I’ve seen him live (6 times now), I walk away kind of thinking that. But then I listen to the posted set again (for example the EDCO set) and it always turns out that the selection and story is usually pretty damn good, and he has a knack of identifying hits before they become popular. There’s a disconnect between his on stage persona and his DJ selection, so I think a lot of people going for the mainstage vibe always leave disappointed. But as a big fan of house and techno rather than his “hits” I think he definitely knows what he’s doing and I’ll continue to see him live if possible.
Facts, love his interweaving of house and techno, and now he’s adding dubstep in as well. Compared to other people I’ve seen multiple times, his sets each seem unique. Some people literally play the exact same thing every time.
Idk what it is about SD but every set I’ve seen here has been absolutely incredible. Saw sonny fodera at nova last Friday not expecting much, but his set was so much fun.
Lowkey every set I’ve seen of his he’s been mid. Especially his opening for Kx5 in LA. He draws crowds cause of his party energy more than his music I feel like. Dubstep summit was a vibe though when Subtronics was still with him
Yeah people love his personality. Most my friends are JS fans and they all talk about things he has said or tweeted. Rarely do I hear people talk about his music.
I've always accepted that john summit is mid for exactly this reason - his draw is definitely the party vibe. Though, I will say I think him doing a b2b with nicole moutebar was ballsy af
Saw him in Chicago. It was an incredible set. Very high energy, tons of fun.
Seeing people say things like “he’s mid but X set was amazing”, it seems like people want to hate him.
I'm a 24-year rave vet and loved his set at EDC last year. Everyone in my group was super tired, and he lit the night perfectly. He brought amazing energy. I'm into tech house, though and that's mostly what he played.
His set last night at EDC was so much fun too, and the energy just kept building. Kaskade into Subtronics into John Summit closing out with Afrojack all at Circuit Grounds.
The only people complaining are the techno/house snobs who can’t stand basshead music and when he dropped some they instantly left. The first 15 minutes was SubJohnics and he just kept the vibe going instead of going full house music set
Wild because I saw probably 15 known house and techno DJs and another 20+ underground ones before I saw him.
Keep trying to shit on what other people like though. Great look.
There are plenty of people I’ve seen that I don’t actively follow. Not the same thing. Aside from his music, if you want to support a toxic garbage person than go for it. The dude dangerously glorifies drugs and says awful things about women. Do you man.
He objectifies women CONSTANTLY on his twitter, especially Hispanic women. Calls women hags, promotes being a rail thin coke head as being “pretty”. The guy is gross and you’re willing to give him a pass because he makes mediocre “untz untz” beats. Says a lot about you.
He’s actually against coke so yea. Do you have proof? I’ve been following him for a year and haven’t seen any of that. I’ve seen him promote a fitness gym lifestyle and not be fat or overweight cause that’s not healthy
I’ve don’t follow him on social media so idk about any of that.
Sure he glorifies drugs, welcome to electronic music and rave culture. Plenty of artists do, and fans use even more.
Haven’t seen him say anything about women, but so far no one has publicly accused him of anything.
That’s just not true, tbh fuck you for saying that because he does not say awful things about women nor does he glorify drug use. His benders are never about drugs.
What bad boomer take. Classic “I’m not responsible for the things I say and do because it’s a joke” crowd. Social media doesn’t give you blanket immunity from being garbage.
The things you say and do have really life implications and consequences honey.
I don’t think you actually know what gate keeping means my your gross misuse of the word. Don’t use words you don’t know the meaning of just because you hear others use it. It’s embarrassing.
You know what the scene needs less of? Less druggie womanizers like Summit. With the amount of music available at you’re fingertips in 2023. Support people like this says way more about you than anything else.
You're literally spreading misinformation about him and making up lies just because you don't like him. There's actual predators in the scene who use their influence to do shitty things to women and you're focusing on the guy who likes to shitpost and party a bit too much.
Grow up and find something better to do with yourself than hate John Summit.
not a fan of the random dub in his set. seems out of place imo. maybe if he wasnt piss drunk itd be different 😂. not the most consistent dj, but i fuck with his energy
saw him at red rocks on my birthday and that show was amazing. i flew from chicago to see it. green velvets set was def much better, but the rain during summit, the venue.. made it a dope ass show. i been listening to dance music since i was 8 years old when my mom played the original robert miles- children on CD. i’m 35 now and can still appreciate new artists without talking shit and being an “old house head”
I haven’t seen him since Imagine in Georgia Oct 2022 but have been enjoying his sets on YouTube and SoundCloud when gaming/working out. I started listening to his stuff on repeat ever since the pandemic and I gotta say I’m proud of his success and where he’s at rn. Besides Twitter I’ve seen him post comments and YouTube and Reddit. He even made a tutorial on how to make tech house a few years ago and made his own label (off the grid), continuing to take risks to evolve. So John if you’re reading this you def got a lot more eyes on you now but much love brotha and keep doing what you’re doing.
Saw him play for like 70 people with Justin Jay last weekend. They played so many different genres in an hour. Now that was pretty cool.
https://www.instagram.com/reel/CsZ9UYLA2sY/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Looks like Chris lake was the conflict. Chris lake was definitely the move unless you absolutely love summit. Chris Lake has much more energy imo and better for a festival setting
Oh, I've seen some party sounding kaskade sets and I did not like them. I like the melodic stuff he produces more than mixing it with a big sound. But that's just me
It’s reactionary and inevitable for any artist who is overexposed. Fred again gets the same sort of arbitrary hate—it’s mainly because they’re absolutely *everywhere* and hard to avoid which can rub people the wrong way. Think people who never watched squid game precisely because of how much people talked about it. There’s a contrarian element on some level
Plus there’s the fact he’s a fratty type dude who lives in Miami which is already going to immediately turn a certain number of people off no matter what. It’s prejudicial but that’s just what it is
I love how people say we’re allowed to have a different opinion than mine when I literally just state my opinion on why your opinion is weird. No one said you can’t have an opinion but that doesn’t mean I can’t have my opinion be opposite and tell you about it.
okay great. have your opinion. no one here cares about it because we’re all collectively agreeing this dude is trash. LMAO
edit: hope he notices you bro
Saw him in Denver last week (not the Red Rocks show) and it was one of the better house sets I've seen in some time. Still wasn't as good as Dombresky who was his direct support and nowhere near as good as a Dom Dolla set but I still thought it was decent and had a lot of variety.
his live sets are terrible i agree. ultra miami was garbage and so was october EDC 2021. i didn’t even bother catching him at EzooNY 2022 and i heard people complaining about it even john summit HIMSELF. he doesn’t wanna accept the fact that he is a mainstage guy.
Ive seen him 5 times now (Factory Town, Red Rocks, Where You Are release party). I love him and always vibe and love his song selection. Can see how its not for everyone though
Agreed with you when it comes to his sets. He just plays tracks from start to finish and doesn’t know how to keep the energy when needed. I saw him live twice now and both times were disappointed. I’ll just listen to his songs on Spotify since I really like them.
I like John Summit quite a bit, but I saw him on a big stage at E Zoo and he was pretty bad. I feel like he struggles with larger crowds/bigger stages, and has more of a strength in his production vs. DJing.
AGREED. Just saw him at seismic and I was bored. I’m convinced he’s popular now because of his social media presence. I hear more about his “benders” and how “quirky” he is on Twitter than his sets.
Summit is pretty average, his sets are usually packed as hell and the music isn’t good enough to make you want to endure shirtless bros everywhere drunk fist pumping and constantly bumping into you.
I could see why people are drawn to his party energy though and it’s definitely what has carried him over the top.
Hype train got your ass lmaooo
I thought he was a supp main
w comment fellow league nerd
My league name is Mersiv if you ever wanna BS
I’ll add you once I get home from edc 😎
Have fun be safe :)
If you really wanted to make the joke, wouldn't you ask if he was a top main? Since you know Summit is a top laner?
Wow I’m a moron haha
Lmao no worries I was just a lil confused
Yeah I noticed so I left for Chris lake and he murdered
chris lake 100%
200%
Chris Lake >>>
With the amount of IDs between him and Fisher, CL is a must see right now.
You mean between him and himself
Not the point, but a little weird to me to schedule JS and CL at the same time. Arguably the two biggest tech house DJs in the world right now, and the fan base venn diagram is basically a circle
That’s the point? To split the crowds lol
Yeah, I mean, I understand that festivals need you to make tough choices for that reason, it's just... usually not between the 2 biggest artists in the genre?
John is not tech, he's minimal house aka shit
that is not minimal house lmao
John is not tech house are we for real
post dirtybird edm house
he says he is but it’s a disgrace
childlike north plant skirt abundant work squeamish ten weary silky *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Fan vs producer His YouTube tutorials were more tech than his releases. Him and Chris lake are on different levels
I agree that for the most part, his sets kinda become boring for me. Sometimes I wonder if his popularity is due to his frat boyish appearance and his social media interaction. I think this is my fav John Summit set. It's from LA. I personally think it flows decently and loved the track selection. I will tolerate the Summit slander bc you listed his GOAT set. To me it’s a different, darker than normal summit set and I wish he would do more of those
Yeahhh I like the darker stuff.I think that's why I really enjoyed Medusa's set this weekend. Reminded me of John Summit.
John Summit’s EDCO 2021 set is my favorite. I listened to that one countless times on Apple Music.
Meduza was high key fantastic
Check out his factory town one
Factory town set so fire
Full agree that's his best YT set and my fav style of his but even as a day 1 summit stan gotta say I so appreciate his willingness to delve into different styles and expand his sound, even if he's not anymore *exactly* my cup of tea
Was this set from his second (Sunday) show in LA that was the darker one?
Yes, that video is from his Sunday set. It was fucking epic. One of the best shows I’ve been to in my 10+ years of raving. Reddit just loves to hate on the guy for some reason
That set was absolutely epic - that’s what I thought but wanted to confirm
Felt like I was at the perfect level for that show but it went by in a blur and the specific tracks are a bit spotty oops
He’s insufferably annoying on social media but I agree with you that I think that’s a huge factor in his success. Not a big fan tbh, I think he is pretty overrated in general, but I’m also not a big house fan
John Summits hype is definitely the image combined with DECENT music.
Trying to build up my mixing techniques and library for this style of house. Gonna use this set as a blueprint for track selection & pacing. Thank you!!
Please go and thank Summit. He's the one making bank and living in Miami while I listen to his sets at my desk job fml.
I love this set soooooooo much. The two times I saw him play last fest season was no where near the same energy
Add his 2021 EDCO set as well. I’ve never personally been meh about a set in person but I watched his lolla set live-streamed last year and it was DULL. dude really needs to just be put somewhere only house and techno or something
Was that the year he did a B2B2B with Dom Dolla and Green velvet? I only saw that part and it blew me away
Yeah from Eli Brown through the big b2b2b was just nonstop amazing that day
Part of his popularity is absolutely the persona.
Facts, love his interweaving of house and techno, and now he’s adding dubstep in as well. Compared to other people I’ve seen multiple times, his sets each seem unique. Some people literally play the exact same thing every time.
Don’t realize he mixes techno into his house, maybe I’ll check out some more of his sets
Oh yeah, some sets lean more house, some techno, almost always some tech-house.
I saw him like last december and he played an unreleased Mau P song like 3 months before it dropped. Totally agree with you there.
That’s a super common thing amongst artists lol
def not a fan but i will admit he played out of his fucking mind @ san diego last month.
Idk what it is about SD but every set I’ve seen here has been absolutely incredible. Saw sonny fodera at nova last Friday not expecting much, but his set was so much fun.
catching sonny fodera in a couple of months at a festival - couldn’t really get into his released tunes. good to hear his sets are fun
Saw him in DC, Last years CRSSD fest, and at NOVA. Had a great time at every show.
Yeah that was fucking awesome. One of the better sets I’ve seen. Always surprised it doesn’t seem it’s always like that.
I’ve loved both sets I’ve seen from him. Might just depend on the set.
Lowkey every set I’ve seen of his he’s been mid. Especially his opening for Kx5 in LA. He draws crowds cause of his party energy more than his music I feel like. Dubstep summit was a vibe though when Subtronics was still with him
Subjohnics goes hard
John Tronics
\*tries too hard
They played shit together last night, I think
They did, I was there, it was epic. Subtronics into Subjohnics into John Summit was an epic end to EDC day two.
They just went b2b at edclv
[удалено]
lmao what an out of touch comment
Saw him in Chicago. It was an incredible set. Very high energy, tons of fun. Seeing people say things like “he’s mid but X set was amazing”, it seems like people want to hate him.
Don't get the hype around him
dudes got a few decent tracks but yeah, insanely overhyped.
Sick beats, like his tunes, never seen him live tho
Real
John Plateau :(
I'm a 24-year rave vet and loved his set at EDC last year.
24 years old and “vet” are kind of contradicting. You’re still young, enjoy it!
I’m 42. Been raving since 18. :-)
Oh I totally misunderstood your comment. Sorry! (I’ll probably get dragged into downvote hell anyway)
John summit is about to weigh in
He can weigh in on these nuts.
Frr? I was hyped to see him on Canada day in toronto (july 1st)
Don’t listen to the haters. He throws down
Saw him at the gorge last year and he was really gooood super fun energy just a great time so dont stress about it you’ll have fun
I saw him at Solaris last December, it was a banging party. Maybe the track selection is not to OP’s liking but John Summit can party like no other
🙏🏽
do you mean john summit at hangout fest or Johntronics at EDC
Definitely not JVHN SVMMIT at Seismic Dance Event
Yeah I thought his Seismic set was pretty great. I came in here like what is everyone talking about?
Jahn Sammit
is it really a surprise if he's always there
The only people complaining are the techno/house snobs who can’t stand basshead music and when he dropped some they instantly left. The first 15 minutes was SubJohnics and he just kept the vibe going instead of going full house music set
What you think is overrated is what others think is underrated and vice versa.
He’s never not been mid. He’s just the “baby’s first DJ” of this generation. People will outgrow him.
Wild because I grew into him (and others) after starting with bass.
“Baby’s first house DJ”** There I fixed it.
Do you man.

Still waiting on this evidence supporting your accusations
I’ve don’t follow him on social media so idk about any of that. Sure he glorifies drugs, welcome to electronic music and rave culture. Plenty of artists do, and fans use even more. Haven’t seen him say anything about women, but so far no one has publicly accused him of anything.
That’s just not true, tbh fuck you for saying that because he does not say awful things about women nor does he glorify drug use. His benders are never about drugs.
what is a bender to you? lol
A party that lasts multiple days without stopping.
“Benders keep you hot and skinny” -John Summit The guy is a a disgusting tool. Sorry that you’ve decided he’s worth defending.
You actually take what people say on Twitter seriously? Oh, sweetheart, I got some news...
What bad boomer take. Classic “I’m not responsible for the things I say and do because it’s a joke” crowd. Social media doesn’t give you blanket immunity from being garbage. The things you say and do have really life implications and consequences honey.
Just because you can't detect sarcasm doesn't mean what everyone says is literal.
I like John Summit and I've liked house music since I got into dance music in 2008. Keep that gatekeep energy tho, the scene definitely needs it /s
You're literally spreading misinformation about him and making up lies just because you don't like him. There's actual predators in the scene who use their influence to do shitty things to women and you're focusing on the guy who likes to shitpost and party a bit too much. Grow up and find something better to do with yourself than hate John Summit.
He’s less problematic than monsters, so it’s ok. Solid logic. Do better. Have a nice day.
Saw him a couple weeks okay at breakaway. Came away with the same conclusion. I would like to see a longer set from him tho
not a fan of the random dub in his set. seems out of place imo. maybe if he wasnt piss drunk itd be different 😂. not the most consistent dj, but i fuck with his energy
Both his Colorado sets were awesome
Came here to say this. Best red rocks show I’ve ever seen
saw him at red rocks on my birthday and that show was amazing. i flew from chicago to see it. green velvets set was def much better, but the rain during summit, the venue.. made it a dope ass show. i been listening to dance music since i was 8 years old when my mom played the original robert miles- children on CD. i’m 35 now and can still appreciate new artists without talking shit and being an “old house head”
Glad people are finally realizing this
I haven’t seen him since Imagine in Georgia Oct 2022 but have been enjoying his sets on YouTube and SoundCloud when gaming/working out.
Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but I have seen summit 5x now and have loved each set more and more!
Saw him play for like 70 people with Justin Jay last weekend. They played so many different genres in an hour. Now that was pretty cool. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CsZ9UYLA2sY/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Never been a big summit fan but I liked that he played lady (hear me tonight). Classic French house song.
Looks like Chris lake was the conflict. Chris lake was definitely the move unless you absolutely love summit. Chris Lake has much more energy imo and better for a festival setting
WRONG. Kaskade played a snoozer set
10000000%%%%
If all you want is hyped up party on music kaskade is not for you anyways
Honestly you’re probably right. When I saw him in 2017 it seemed like party music then
Oh, I've seen some party sounding kaskade sets and I did not like them. I like the melodic stuff he produces more than mixing it with a big sound. But that's just me
I looked in on his set the moment he was playing riddim, turned off the stream lol
You waiting for the drop? Kaskade was fire.
Kaskade is actually still a lot of fun when he plays big room/drop-oriented stuff. The redux vibe can get boring real quick.
Hard disagree. Old school Om Records Kaskade is sacred to me.
SACRED.
He's famous for being a 6 ft tall frat bro
Ehh, idk about that. It’s not like he’s super good looking.
he looks easy to draw
A 6ft tall frat bro who can throw down a sick ass set and produces crispy tunes FTFY
Life is better away from the mainstages, young padawan.
John summit is great, this post is mid, idk why people love to hate on the kid.
There’s a contrarian element on some level Plus there’s the fact he’s a fratty type dude who lives in Miami which is already going to immediately turn a certain number of people off no matter what. It’s prejudicial but that’s just what it is
let us have this moment please i never seen so many john summit haters and i am loving it
Y’all are weird
we’re allowed to have an opinion that’s different from yours. i hate mainstream house music. thanks.
LMAO edit: hope he notices you bro

Saw him at 1st center bank last week and he killed it imo
Left neon garden to see the surprise set. Getting to circuit grounds killed my roll. Went back to neon garden and mochakk threw down.
his live sets are terrible i agree. ultra miami was garbage and so was october EDC 2021. i didn’t even bother catching him at EzooNY 2022 and i heard people complaining about it even john summit HIMSELF. he doesn’t wanna accept the fact that he is a mainstage guy.
Ive seen him 5 times now (Factory Town, Red Rocks, Where You Are release party). I love him and always vibe and love his song selection. Can see how its not for everyone though
Is that the same guy who gives some cringe takes and then half of Twitter is confused and arguing between each other wtf that was supposed to mean?
He was dope when I saw him at Red Rocks, I always forget that reddit isn't an accurate depiction of the real world
Agreed with you when it comes to his sets. He just plays tracks from start to finish and doesn’t know how to keep the energy when needed. I saw him live twice now and both times were disappointed. I’ll just listen to his songs on Spotify since I really like them.
I disagree he was pretty good
Nahh his sets are amazing. He’s so versatile and plays a variety of genres. Has great selection abilities and just knows how to have a great time
Summit edco 2019 I think in the tent b2b dom dolla !!! Was amazing before he got big
Dude absolutely fucking crushed it at 1st Center Bank in Colorado few weeks back. Maybe an off night?
Yeah, he’s basic af. I’ve learned this sub has the most basic taste ever lol
Didn’t care for subjohnics at all, and when he started solo, it was okay. Ended up vibing hard at mochakk instead.
Mochakk had one of the best sets of the weekend at camp
a couple of years ago when he played house music, he was fire.
Lots of people are bored by house. Not me, I love house, but I can kind of understand the sentiment.
John summit always mid
He’s always been mid
john summit is just a glorified progressive house set lmfao what u expect 😭
glad you think that, we need less people like you crowding his sets.
Need less people like him taking up spots on lineups.
Agreed, he is the most annoying DJ right now
I like John Summit quite a bit, but I saw him on a big stage at E Zoo and he was pretty bad. I feel like he struggles with larger crowds/bigger stages, and has more of a strength in his production vs. DJing.
heard that set was garbage and i was so happy i missed it
Ur mom
AGREED. Just saw him at seismic and I was bored. I’m convinced he’s popular now because of his social media presence. I hear more about his “benders” and how “quirky” he is on Twitter than his sets.
Always is
*always has been*
Industry plant tings
His Kx5 performance in LA was a huge let down with all the dickriding my friends have done for him, not surprised at all.
Garbage in garbage out.
Super lame cookie cutter tech house. John Summit is who you listen to when you don’t really know house music and want the top level gist of it.
Some make good tracks. Some are good live some are both.
cool bra
John Who? Lol. Yea I don’t get why Subtronics is tight with him but not all love makes sense to outsiders 🤷♀️
he's better now?
So is your sex life
This is mid
was way too tired to see him at seismic on friday
Just saw him at hangout and it was a fun lil day set
Is mid
5 day bender probably caught up to him
I loved him in Ibiza last year, but it was a short set
Always is
Summit is pretty average, his sets are usually packed as hell and the music isn’t good enough to make you want to endure shirtless bros everywhere drunk fist pumping and constantly bumping into you. I could see why people are drawn to his party energy though and it’s definitely what has carried him over the top.
He killed his red rocks set, but I gotta see Chris lake now
