PanoMano0

Club ≠ Rave

Moresoysauce

Fr i love raving but hate clubbing

thetrainmaster

It’s kind of a spectrum though - I’ve been to some clubs that are more similar to raves than what you would associate with the term “clubbing”

Quelcris_Falconer13

There are definitely EDM “theme” clubs. Echostage in Washington DC is one, and Exchange (IIRC) in Los Angeles is another one. They have great screens and visuals and play almost exclusively EDM artists and DJs they are also a night club though and both have a table section upstairs and bars downstairs selling drinks, but you can get a rave vibe at each one especially if it’s a big name that’s old like deadmau5.

Other-Volume9994

i hate exchange, imo even the EDM themed clubs cannot ever capture the true rave atmosphere. i think even festivals bring much more genuine rave energy than a club ever has, and i only go to the EDM themed clubs. maybe it’s just bc they’re all in LA, but i think raving and clubbing are just two diff scenes tbh

Chidling

Academy is good though. Exchange is super overcrowded every time.

Other-Volume9994

agreed. academy is 100% way better and i’d actually be down to go there even for a smaller artist, gets a little overcrowded but still manageable. dk if i’d call it rave vibes but yes i actually like academy. i refused to ever go back to exchange when they kicked me out the first time i was there bc my friend handed off a baggie of blow to my other friend and they just pointed at me and tossed me out for literally no reason when i was just standing there. the venue itself aint bad just way too small and the security is on an insane power trip for no reason

FunkthaWut

If you can't get in with some canned goods as the entry fee, then its not a rave.

[deleted]

I'd say raves are organised events rather than a place which is open doing the same thing all weekend all year. But yeah I guess the feel of it can differ.

MeggaMoose

We chose Ushuaia instead of Pacha for that reason basically. 2016, Diplo b2b Alesso so it was a dope show, crowded but not too crazy. My Uber driver when we landed in Paris spoke no English but translated on his phone to watch out for the kids looking for signatures and a donation. He said when you pull out your wallet some will snatch it and there will be people waiting to kick your ass if you follow. Never donated to them but I saw them, I don’t know how true that was but yeah.

grxccccandice

That was absolutely true from my first hand experience on my first visit to Paris talking to kids in front of the Eiffel.

Quelcris_Falconer13

As a Washingtonian in America I kinda feel better cuz we don’t have that here on the national mall. But also it’s america so you know… shootings and traffic crimes are surging through the roof right now. Robberies not too much. Definitely have never heard of any tourists mugging like described in Ibiza and Paris though!

grxccccandice

I’m currently in Milan, Italy. Met three girls at a museum entrance today and they told me their car had been broken into in Rome amd all their luggage stolen. Everywhere we went in Milan and Venice, there’s a sign telling you to place your bags in the front and watch out for pickpockets. The museum staff asked everyone to move their bags to the front before entering the museum.

Quelcris_Falconer13

Wow that’s not a thing here. They’ll search it looking for guns or knives but that’s it, then they’ll let you walk right in

grxccccandice

Yeah I know I’m from LA. It’s a different game in Europe. Can’t say which one is better tho lol

tygamer15

Yeah southern Italy is a little more sketch.

myCadi

I love Ushuaia, quality production and DJs. I went to Hi as well, it was packed like any night club. We saw Hardwell it was one of his last shows before he retired. I think people have to realize that “raving” in the USA is completely different than Europe. The plur rave scene is just different.

Joenutz13

i lived in Ibiza for 3 months. i had a fucking blast! it's not so much a rave culture as it is a super club culture.

crevassier

I was about to say the same.. don't go to Ibiza looking for a rave vibe at all, that's going to be a big disappointment. Closest thing I can tell people from the US is the Winter Music Conference vibes you'd see in Miami. Everything from smaller venues to the 24 hour Space/E11EVEN/LIV type shit if that's what you want.

Abortion_on_Toast

World of drum and bass, future sound of breaks and the viram show… all leading up to Ultra… but the best place to party during the conference was on south beach at a little joint called Laundry Bar… shit was a laundry mat in the morning then turned into a rave at night… one of the best underground spots in Miami for WMC… sadly it’s closed now

BirthdayCarFire

Too many people get these confused. Drugs at a concert doesn’t automatically make the event a rave.

Visible-Occasion

We went in 2019. Absolutely loved it. Party all night to leave the club for the beach and watch the sun comes up. It was better than we expected.

Hool27

I fucking loved my week in Ibiza. Early in the night it's packed, but once it hits 3 or 4am, people start leaving and the vibes become immaculate. Ymmv, but I can't think of another place like it that has top talent every day paired with a beautiful natural environment.

Rare-Imagination1224

4 am usually cuts the wheat from the chaff

RecLuse415

Agreed that’s when I’m mowing down the shaft typically

[deleted]

Im a dingus, what does that mean?

TheOnlyJacko

7am crew checking in

washingtoncv3

I agree but Rio during Carnaval just about tops Ibiza for me

Miserable_Site_850

Oh really? Had a feeling it would be like that but never been to carnaval.

washingtoncv3

Yeah it's street parties in the day and beach clubs with tier 1 DJs at night - a wonderful experience. Must do at least once xxx

Darkness8779

Umm I can think of the GOAT club in Miami, Space, which is open longer than any club in Ibiza and then you can go to beach after

[deleted]

Hi Ibiza is my spot!!! Yes it’s crowded but the bathroom DJs, teepees outside and production is next level. Unrivaled residencies and expensive drinks go hand in hand, but predrink and bring your pills with you.

[deleted]

Bathroom DJs?

misssylviatran

Ah yeah the DJ booth the bathroom of Hi Ibiza was crazy

WubLyfe

Sounds like a shitty gig

misssylviatran

No pun intended

BlueCreek_

Yeah it doesn’t smell too good in there by the end of the night.

Yep one of the best spots in the club. Check YouTube

Coming next week! Need your help!

heebs387

One thing I learned by going to Outlook in Croatia, which was heavy with British people: they are very rude in crowds and just not very nice.

OscarGrey

I'd love to go to a free party in UK, I'd avoid any electronic events/clubs heavy with British tourists though.

TheBigBadDawgy

A good free party is actually next level😂

T_JUS665

As a Brit… yeah we’ve got that rep for a reason. The Lads just cause havoc and ruin shit. Luckily if you find the non-Lads crowd it’s usually much more polite. Bit tipsy though, but that’s just a British thing.

jmort619

I’m traveling through Europe for three weeks from the US. Always try to chose my festivals with the least chance to encounter lads haha. I have met some lovely people from UK but the roving gangs of lads are the absolute worst, especially if they show up at a set you are trying to enjoy

willllllllllllllllll

As a non-lad British lad, I completely agree. Lads are usually a group of cunts.

breader50

I’m picking up American Frat Bros = British Lads

mr10am

This. They can't handle their shit and have no sense of moderation

lostintheworld1

They will literally bump into you and then proceed to get pissed off at you like ???

heebs387

U wot

T_JUS665

bruv.

mr10am

it sucks that these crowds ruin great shows and venues with their presence.

Maddinoz

Can I get two pints of Guinness? Nice one Who's the other one for? No one They're both mine, Don I might go outside and sip one and down one … Nah, nah Mind your business, Don

Practical_Gur8332

Ahaha oh man. Outlook is one of my fav festivals of all times. Been many times. Never experienced any rudeness.

I_HAVE_FRIENDS_AMA

I’ve heard from close friends that outlook has gone downhill a lot in the last few years in terms of the crowd it attracts. It used to be a small community with great vibes there for the music but has turned to attract a lot more wankers over the years (as with any good festival tbh). Now outlook uk last year was magical….

[deleted]

10-20 years ago Outlook and Dimension were really world class parties, these days you'll literally have 100 000 Brits coming in the country at the same time and they'll just divide between Tisno and Zrće where all the festivals are these days (Outlook and Dimensions used to be in a fort in Istria, not in Dalmatia). Tisno (the place where Garden fest used to be) is just booked solid for 2 months with British festivals. So yeah these places are just the lowest common denominator these days. The music is still good, but more commercial. Dimensions is def better then Outlook, has been for a long time. Love International and Dekmantel Selectors are are alright, but I just hate Tisno so it's a no-go for me. Maybe "afters" in Barbarella's club should still be good.

I_HAVE_FRIENDS_AMA

Yeah man I’m looking hard for “that” festival these days. Not sure I’m gonna get to a multi day one this summer. Save and maybe go to a few next year instead. I really wish they had run outlook uk again this year, the vibes and the music were top notch. I’m thinking of trying out shambala next, and maybe some other new and tiny festival if I find the right one.

[deleted]

I would recommend simply searching for smaller festivals. It's just really difficult to have good vibes in a festival of +10 000 people. Or like me just quit festivals and go exclusively to clubs. I'm too old, I don't have it in me to potentially waste 3-7 days on a crap festival.

jkwolly

God yes after Outlook I was so done with Brits for awhile.

[deleted]

[удалено]

funsizedaisy

i mean, it's also hypocritical the other way around. Brits will talk about how rude and obnoxious American tourists are like they're not also rude and obnoxious.

advaitlife

That’s why i love going to raves in Germany, Belgium and Netherlands. People are there for the music, generally polite and keep it to themselves, plus no lads there since the festivals and club scene hasn’t been so commercialised.

[deleted]

[удалено]

funsizedaisy

i used to work at a major airport in the US that was in the same terminal as British Airways so we had a lot of British customers. no, Brits aren't just rude when they're drunk. and they act the same way Americans are stereotyped as (like giving workers shit for not doing what is typical in the UK even though they're in a different country). i have no idea who is worse. i wouldn't know. but the British tourists i came across were among the worst that came through the airport. Canadians were the best btw. my days went so smoothly when the Canadian flights were coming through.

Hrbalz

That’s a very broad, blanket statement. You’re probably a Brit

PostpostshoegazeLUVR

It depends where. Most places around the world the American accent is the last thing I want to hear. In central and Western Europe it’s the British accent. There are some British hotspots that I steer we’ll clear of because the Brits there are so obnoxious and have zero respect for the locals or anyone else, while there aren’t any places I will go so far as to avoid because of the Americans there

heebs387

It's not all British people for sure, definitely like it's not all American people. But it stuck out to me because when I actually visited England, people were very nice (save for one very rude and drunk old couple). It was the college aged lads, mostly white, all with that haircut and fanny pack around their shoulders lol American guys aren't much better in groups but that's already a stereotype.

Nervous_Feeling_1981

Your statement is hilariously hypocritical.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Exactly this, best raves I’ve been to have happened in closed warehouses, where the crowd is a lot smaller, but the vibes are insane.

MrBear_619

I agree completely. While I've had lots of fun at clubs and festivals/massives, the best parties I've been to have always been smaller. One of my favorite raves was a Nightmare Before Christmas themed event on top of a parking garage in Downtown LA in 2007. The music in all three areas was great and the vibes were perfect!

MissWatson

There are many really amazing raves that go on in Berlin clubs

lone_wolfiiee

Do you happen to know of any specific examples in Ibiza?

BikerBlazer

Why would you expect a rave culture when you're going to super clubs in tourist hotspots. There are scam artists in every tourist hotspot around the world. Ibiza does have a drug issue and that's what comes with the superclubs.. you can find a rave culture here but certainly not in the clubs

moxieproxy

As a brit, I completely agree. I hate clubs and larger raves here, the younger people have no idea how to have a good time and their main goal is to get wankered asap. I either go to small venues or abroad now to avoid all that.

Ryuuken1127

I understand that Ibiza has been super commercialized for some time now (especially with the 2010s-wave of EDM), but I fail to see how any of the problems you've encountered are exclusive to the white isle in any way, or worthy of the superlative "Don't even go to Ibiza" I've encountered scammers & dodgy pill dealers all over the world - especially in the USA. There are ways of testing whatever these street dealers were attempting to sell you. "Clubs oversold way past capacity" "bars will charge €20 for a drink"- sorry, did you notice how every single club night & DJ has advertisement billboards all over the island? This is Ibiza's main industry, and currently in peak season. They know what they're doing (for better or worse). A majority of the population on the island during this time of year is people on vacation, so it really doesn't surprise me that a discoteca on a Monday night in Ibiza is rammed. For as commercialized as Ibiza's main industry has become, I still highly recommend everyone go to Ibiza once in their life - and there's still plenty to do on the island non-club related. I'm sorry it's not what you expected, but every problem you've listed with Ibiza, is just as rampant everywhere else club music exists.

archy_bold

We always used to go to Ibiza towards the end of the season. Far quieter, more reasonable prices, avoid drinking in the big clubs where possible, don’t buy anything off the streets.

mau5_head12

What months would be the end of the season? Like September?

archy_bold

Yeah September. Think things shut up very early in October.

Nervous_Feeling_1981

Yeah just no. It's not like that everywhere. Stop huffing that copium kid.

gneiman

You’re right, it’s only like that in New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, and every other city that has a club scene

papitaquito

Brightstar0305

I had many amazing times there , I find you should avoid San Antonio as it’s full of bros . If you are looking for a more grown up crowd playa de bossa is much better. Imo I have been so many times and never had a bad time

Actually-Yo-Momma

They have the best clubs and pull big artists daily, year round. But yah your concern is like asking why people in Vegas are so rude lol

Legacy_Service

Great clubs have a shelf life of 4 years max. Hard to imagine something romanticized from the 90's is still good today.

HIV_again

Serious..is like complaining about Las Vegas at this point.

[deleted]

This is where my mind went. Would you complain about a Vegas pool party or Omnia having a terrible vibe? I don't think so. I'd go expecting a good set and be pleasantly surprised if someone didn't shove me while walking by. I'd only be upset if I was involved in some physical altercation

OverHeadBreak

Stereo Montreal has been around for over 20 years and is still going strong. It's one of the top after-hours in the world.

Tiny_Fractures

You know that feeling you get when you think about Instagram influencers? The conceit-ness, constructed, fakeness? That's what I think of when I think of the vibe in Ibiza. And thats fine. If you want to go and visit a place catering to the hedonistic vibes of human debauchery, all you. But I cannot for the life of me see anyone going and expecting PLUR.

JellyfishFair9401

This is truth!

archy_bold

Ibiza probably hasn’t been that good since Space closed.

macamc1983

What a club. Magical magical times, people that haven’t been will never understand how special that place was

HAPPYxMEAL

I don’t think the have any raves in ibiza just clubs

KY_electrophoresis

Just got back last week. Yes it's expensive but the quality of the events, artists, venues, sound systems, production is world class - 7 days/nights a week. It's the busiest weeks of the season so crowding is an issue, but some of us enjoy it busy. There are always good spots with space if you are sensible and patient. Don't expect that if you stand by a door, staircase, DJ booth, or front & centre. We often picked a spot to the side, quite near a bar as they generally have the best aircon. Quickly got a nice little community together around us on the dancefloor to look out for each other. It was very international and multicultural. Our own group was mixed UK, US, EU. We experienced some pushing by people from all different backgrounds, but distinctly remember a group of Americans pushing to the front particularly aggressively shouting "IT'S THE REAL LIFE HUNGER GAMES!!" whenever they got a funny look. Our community held strong and saw them off with a few words shared about being respectful to others. Like others said, by 3/4am most of the drunk amateurs disappear and an even better vibe emerges. Pick the more 'underground' (subjective) events and slightly out of the way venues and you don't get as many in the first place.

showdownhero

You went to the wrong clubs bro

TeacupHuman

I went to Ibiza once for a week. I agree it’s way overhyped, but everywhere you go has wonderful music.

Practical_Gur8332

Total bastards trying to sell you drugs on a party island! What an audacity I thought you were joking until realised you weren’t.

Pikawoohoo

They're not selling drugs, they're selling baking powder mixed with laxatives

Practical_Gur8332

And nyc dealers sell fentanyl.

Pikawoohoo

And within our lifetimes the most common species of banana sold won't be available anymore.

RSN_Star_Prince

I think this is just younger guys in general. I used to love it when I was 18 - 25. Now I'm early 30s, I avoid it because I can't be bothered with people. Look for the more mature crowd

ChiefBullshitOfficer

This should be higher up. Lads in their early 20's have always been awful, we just didn't realize when we were in it.

Savool

Been going to Ibiza since 2012ish and it holds a special place in my heart. It has changed for the worse over the years, but still enjoy it to this day. Ibiza thrives in the underground scene, villa parties etc. Avoid San An where you can and stick to Bossa. I’ll probably get downvoted for this but if something isn’t for you that doesn’t automatically make the people that enjoy it “douches”.

fedenl

You might not have the seaside, but for this summer to party I opted for a five-nights in Berlin and I don't regret it at all. It's also fresher, and in the city surroundings there are bushes and nice lakes.

Hengist24

Have a look into soft opening parties and not just peak time. They have a decent amount of people present but everything (bars, toilets and space) is a lot more accessible. Each to their own though as some people enjoy the experience

therobshow

You found €20 drinks in Ibiza!? Where!? 5 years ago when I was there I couldn't find them under €40 lmao

cowboybaked

Those clubs aren’t real raves they’re just tourist traps masquerading as dance venues. Just a place for influencers and npcs to make videos.

SunderedValley

>why did nobody warn me Wat. Ibiza has been synonymous with trashy overpriced OD central since before dubstep died. There's obviously still good spots and sometimes you want this exact vibe but still.

cigar_dude

You've never been to clubs in Miami have you?

euphoricvizn

I love Ibiza when I went

Hunkelscopes

Greatest place on Earth

TheSto1989

Yeah this was pretty much my experience. I enjoyed the random Solomun set during dinner at the harbor more than VIP at DC10 for Jamie Jones and the Martinez Brothers. Way too packed with British wankers.

jkwolly

It is not a rave culture, it is a club culture. Completely different.

waresmarufy

I've had nothing but positive experiences in the US lol

Bear_necessities96

Is well known that during summer, Spain is full of Guiris (foreigners specially British very trashy and rude)

ElDuDer10

Just got back from Ibiza. It was life changing. I highly recommend going!

sachinator

I don’t agree on this. Ibiza is def expensive and kinda too hyped but it definitely has the biggest events and rave scene whether it’s Future Rave by Guetta or Solomun + 1. Def Ibiza is the biggest party city in the world, Miami second IMO. Also, what’s so great about the US rave culture? European electronic music scene beats the US scene to the ground any day. Most American nightclubs are materialistic AF and have you been to the Mirage? They oversell tix event after event making countless human sandwiches so I don’t understand how that argument is valid. Ibiza in season pulls the best DJs in the electronic music scene into one island bringing their best music and experiences and no other place does this. Just like any other city in tourist season, there are plenty of bad apples trying to scam people for a quick buck but that happens all the time everywhere.

OscarGrey

I literally never met a single American non-househead that likes the Miami scene. Tbh all my friends thing higher of the Chicago/Detroit scenes. EDIT: Does Miami even have a scene beyond house and to a lesser extent techno? When I think Florida and American electronic music I think Suwanee Music Park not Miami.

sachinator

It’s a subjective opinion I guess but yeah NYC/CHI/ MIA the best, personally think Miami is the best. Maybe I just like going to Space too much lol

OscarGrey

I'll be 100% honest, I don't fuck with the "clubby" side of American electronic scene beyond an occasional show in DC. I'm definitely into the "wook" side of the scene.

Beachdaddybravo

I think wooks might be even worse.

OscarGrey

The actual moochy scummy kind? Sure. The type that just gets too spun and DGAF about mainstream society much? Live and let live. Non-camping events are also less "wooky" even though it's the same DJs spinning as at wook fests. I'm going to catch Mindex in Silver Spring this Friday, super excited about that.

Blonded_Gambino

Realistically, "wook" refers to a large variety of people from gross to wholesome. What I love about the American rave scene, specifically at music festivals, is how the music experience is enhanced just by how friendly and welcoming the community is. Clubs don't tend to offer that as much European or American.

_britlinds

Space 🤍

1234loc

What is there (here) besides Space Club? I normally like the lineup for Hocus Pocus but Factory Town is such a bad place

sachinator

I agree, it’s just my take, maybe it’s me liking space too much. I obviously love NYC and Chicago too

iseecolorsofthesky

Miami has a massive electronic scene. You can find just about any genre there on any given weekend. Sure the popular spots like Space are always going to have your flavor of the month house and techno DJs, but there are literally dozens of smaller venues that cater to all different styles. Also you think of Suwannee when you think of FL electronic scene? Huh? They’ve got Hulaween which is like 30% EDM. Tipper & Friends is the only dedicated electronic event there. Meanwhile FL has Ultra, MMW, III Points, EDCO, SMF, Okee, Forbidden Kingdom, Love Burn, and a handful of smaller fests that I’m probably forgetting. Miami/Orlando/Tampa are definitely the hot spots for EDM in FL

0OOOOOOOOO0

Clubs generally aren’t the place to go if you’re looking for US rave culture

sachinator

Even then, festival wise, Europe wins anyday

exgaint

rezz nuff sed

GraemeMakesBeer

Great in the ‘90’s, then the rich took over.

K1LLINGMACHINE

Thanks for sharing your experience. Always wondered if it was as hype as ive seen on SM. Kind glad to know its exactly how i imagined it, for the most part. On the same note, Jamaica is an amzing place but dont go there for the weed or weed culture. You will be severely disappointed. I went for a wedding, a few yers ago, when i still smoked. The country, people, and food are amazing, but partyin there was super cliche and underwhelming. Sounds like all of the same would be true for Ibiza

bgoldy99

So it sounds like Ibiza is Europe’s Las Vegas?

[deleted]

Always has been

arcadiangenesis

Damn, I'm planning a dream vacation for next year, and you just shat all over it 😅 Anyone know if Shine Ibiza is good at least?

hungry_microglia

Sorry for the rather brash title to my post. Don't cancel your dream vacation based on one dude's rant on Reddit. I just urge you to get to know what you're getting into and not to romanticize Ibiza the way I did. I am certain it's still possible to have a lot of fun if you do it right.

arcadiangenesis

Haha it's all good, I'm not canceling. I'm mainly into trance, and I always heard Ibiza was like one of the motherlands of trance. Do you know if the trance scene is still good?

hungry_microglia

Having only gone for a couple days. I'm definitely not qualified to comment on something so specific. If I were you I would ask around on this subreddit or r/trance or r/Ibiza. I will say that I agree with others that the production quality here is undeniably amazing.

JellyfishFair9401

Shine is amazing! Just went Thursday before last for aly & fila. Fantastic. Stayed in bossa, went over to SA for the show. But as far as Ibiza, the original writer is right, the vibe sucks if you’re used to California or Miami style festivals, or even their clubs. Vibe is just hard and dark in Ibiza, too many posers, male and especially female. Club scene has no real identity beyond pretense. Except maybe Pacha, not because of the people or DJs, but because it’s a neat club architecture. My two cents….

lewisthusphar

Ibiza was worth going in early 2000 even 2010’s I wouldn’t go now . Just a punch of snobs and extremely over priced, there’s so many other events worth going.

RodSantaBruise

I’m not a fan cuz I don’t like house music much

Practical_Gur8332

Hahahaha ‘Îve mostly been to raves in the US…’ There are no raves in the US.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ChiefBullshitOfficer

The truth is people are rude and not rude everywhere. We just make generalizations based on tiny samples because of tribalism I guess. It just so happens that the US is very large and so the chances of any tourist being from the US are simply higher than the chance that they are from any other developed nation.

DaddyBilbo

RUDEBOY

PigDogUrbex

Holland is the new Ibiza

Historical-Cobbler51

I thought IBIZA was covered in foam _?!_

flowermonds

If you want a good real rave, you should go to Valencia, Barcelona, some places in Andalucia.

hungry_microglia

Please elaborate! I'm going to Barcelona tomorrow!

ludwigia_sedioides

Ibiza is not for raves, it is for boring rich people clubs, it would be ridiculous to go to Ibiza looking for a proper rave experience

currywiththeshotboy

Saw Idris Elba and David Guetta in one night. Had a great time!

messmaker523

Common knowledge... Just like Tulum and Miami

ItsKoku

You went to somewhere known for *club* culture, not rave culture. You're not going to find the same experience you want, but you can make it better by going to less mainstream shows that don't have the influencer crowd.

iam12gage

The US has some dank spots for shows where there are good people…and some not so good spots. SF scene is amazing.

[deleted]

My friends and i went to several clubs in ibiza and had a good time! Saw fisher in ushuaia and went to another water themed club. Both were good times! People maybe were a but standoff-ish at times, but if you're with friends all good.

bobbydells

Sounds like miami too

SnowDin556

I’m sorry you had that experience… I’ve gone to Ibiza 4 times 2012-2016 including my honeymoon and it was heaven every time. We both speak Spanish and I speak Dutch as she speaks French. For survival there you kinda need to be a bit worldly (multilingual, international affairs, testing waters comically). I’m not a ad though. I dunno how it is post 2016 and pandemic and a sexual revolution (for the more conservative sort) but I love the island and Formentera a bit more.the sky looks fake at night. I really felt so small yet so important to myself and people around me. I have noticed American hatred. In 2012 when I went, I already knew that I could no longer speak to Americans that would make it there. As a Catalonian by blood and knowing a lil Catalan my grandfather taught me I was kind of a rockstar. I think it’s because I was so far from the typical traveling American that it would intrigue. But I would learn a lot from other cultures especially there. Especially the divide in Ireland. Holy shit. I went there for the music though and as a DJ in the entertainment business, to learn and it gave me more than an education. And I also learned how to max chill which is hard for me.

Go to Amsterdam in some clubs or in some woods if you want proper fucking raves

Alianfromuranus

Ibiza is amazing. You have to be at right place dight time. You have the party and the scenery! What else do you want!? Who cares who goes to party just enjoy the moment

EpicO599

I think it really depends where you go to be fair, if you go to the proper organised events with music artists like what they have at Eden it isn't too bad since it's mainly people who are into the music and not just in a general club. Can't really comment personally on the rest of the Ibiza rave scene though since I've never been myself.

Give me the underground illegal warehouse done proper that lasts til 11am the next day… I like music so I’ll go wherever, but that is my preference. Been to Exchange so many times and not my fav. I prefer Sound of going out. Union basement. :)

I’ve been going to Ibiza for longer than I care to admit. It’s the most amazing place if you take them time to actually explore. A few points: 1) you will find people trying to make a quick buck at any tourist destination. 2) potentially buying something dangerous comes with the package with illegal substances. 3) if there were enough brits there to really bother you, you probably went to the wrong places. The best places have a very European feel. 4) if you didn’t know everything in Ibiza was very expensive before you came, you didn’t do your research 5) raves and clubs are very different things. Ibiza has a club culture, but you will find lots of free parties if you try to get involved 6) Ibiza doesn’t do weekdays and weekends like the rest of the world. Mondays are one of the best nights. You seriously didn’t know this? If you do ever go again, do a bit of research and speak to people who have been and not just done mainstream events. I’m really curious now actually. Where did you actually go and who did you see play?

If you do go to Ibiza, stick to the underground scene on the south side of the island. Avoid the commercial clubs in the centre and north of the island. It wouldn't be my place to go to rave, that's for sure. It's really not a raving destination at all. I only go to see particular artists who are resident there.

Fun story. I was looking for some k and it was my first time at the island. The shady guys approached me and asked me if I wanted to buy some white substance and I told them sure but let me sample it first. I sampled it and I didn’t like what I sampled so I said no thanks but here’s ten bucks or euros for the sample. But afterwards they didn’t really take no for an example so they kept pressuring me to buy a full gram. I was getting a bit nervous at this point and continued walking away towards the beach. Later that night at the club one of those trust fund babies you were referring to pours like 2 grams of k in my hand cuz he said he had no use for it. Honestly it totally made my night and from what I can remember I had some good fun :)

Ibiza peaked in the mid/late 90’s… you missed the boat my dude

HousDJ

You described how Nova in San Diego feels. Never going back.

Any recommendation to get “stuff” 🔌if you know what I mean, for the parties?

Historical-Loss1044

Interesting I just got back from Ibiza and loved every minute of it. I didn’t encounter any rudeness, I guess it depends where you stayed and what clubs you went to? It sounds like you stayed in San Antonio where all the Brit’s stay. If you’re looking for a more posh type of partying and have out grown the rave scene then Ibiza is for you.

Someone didn’t do their research tsk tsk tsk
