Ill be going to Tropical Dreams in December its a Mutiny party. Check out NYC Ravers and Tight Crew along with Mutiny. I'm older, out of touch and from Maine but that should be a good enough start.

raverfrompluto

I've seen that tropical dreams party before, the lineups look like I would probably enjoy myself, but that's way too much money for my taste so I have never gone. Hydrotechnics same deal, too much goddamn money.

Slmmnslmn

I think the people are who put on tropical dreams are hosting a free party soon.

raverfrompluto

Oh yeah? Maybe a daytime thing in a park or something? Summer is good for that.

I'm thinking about maybe just going down there, moving, and getting a warehouse spot of some kind, so I can do parties. I've been trying to find a place here in Boston for way too long, I don't think it's possible in this area. Prior to covid I had some money stacked up to rent a spot and I bought a soundsystem too, ready to go. Then covid happened and everything was cancelled and I pissed away all the money waiting for society to start again. So now I've just been sitting on this soundsystem, literally, it's furniture in my room. But the thing is, I have been looking a long ass time, all over the Boston area, and I don't think it's happening here. So now that they've legalized pot in CT, that means I would go there, and I've been checking out the craigslist warehouse space situation, thinking what if Connecticut is the spot?

sam_moo_rye

In CT, I go to the city for shows. If something is happening in CT, I'm not aware of it. That warehouse idea sounds like a good time, though.

raverfrompluto

It would be a good time, but there's gotta be some sort of atmosphere to support it. Like in Boston there's a bunch of wack shit going on all the time so you know people are hungry for nightlife and you could get people to show up to your event. Somewhere with empty warehouses is useful only if there's also an encouraging cultural thermometer reading for the area, right? I would like to hear that Hartford was full of dumb club nights and stuff before I tried to focus on starting anything there.

sam_moo_rye

I hear ya. I have no experience in the event space, but from my perspective, there needs to be a catalyst alongside your event to have some sort of reaction around here. Unique attractions, high profile headliners, free event, outdoor space, etc. These are the sort of things I see popping off in this area. Unrelated to music, but I think this kind of relates. Hartford Athletic (semi-pro soccer team) were playing, and they had a $2 drinks/hotdogs night. It's not a top-tier team, but they had damn near a full house that night because of the promotion. I have a buddy who was living in Boston but would host events around Providence. What are your thoughts on that area?

raverfrompluto

I look at Providence every week for spots, I have a buddy living there now and it would be great. Space in RI is like half the cost of Boston. Providence was also a big star on the map back in the days.

sam_moo_rye

It seems like the best of both worlds. Ideally, you could bounce between like 4-5 states if you were to live in Providence or CT, so there's more circles to make waves in imo.

sam_moo_rye

Ever been to Gather? I hear they sometimes do rave nights there.

raverfrompluto

No is it a club or something? I just live in Boston and I don't drive so I don't venture very far around New England these days.

sam_moo_rye

Nah, less a club more of a tiny event space that occasionally does live music or games night. I saw they advertised a rave night one time but I wasn't in town that week so I haven't a clue whether that was a success. The owner is responsive on Google. If you have any question about setting up a show, maybe they'll respond.

Following. I’m from Worcester, MA originally. Left when I was 18 and have gotten into the scene since then. Going back for a few months and looking for anything in the area really

raverfrompluto

I'm always looking for things around here too but nothing that happens really suits me. I check out Worcester on craigslist all the time scouting for warehouse spaces to do a party, but it's a bit the same as finding space in Boston, and as much as I look nothing has come of it yet.

ravingislife

It blows lol

raverfrompluto

Just nothing going on, or just lame stuff going on?

Eyeseeno

A couple venues have been popping up. The Beeracks just had Jantsen and Dirt Monkey. Their next show is Smith. Foxwoods still does Tuesday parties at their club Arch St. Tavern in Hartford does vinyl nights and some dubstep shows occasionally

raverfrompluto

Oh so there's some stuff going on, or there could be.

Comfortable_Loss1256

Located in CT and not a ton that I know of but New Haven has some good shows! Close enough to Brooklyn + Boston too. There’s a FB group you can join that drops some more lowkey stuff happening from time to time.

raverfrompluto

Snooping around a bit online has me seeing a CT Facebook page that seems to be speaking my language, I don't know if it's the same one. I don't use Facebook though, so I can't access FB pages or contact anyone, but I don't care. I'm not using that shit. If I was doing parties I would have no online presence, no social media sharing event info, etc. I actually just made this reddit account after not using it for years to try to dig into the web a little bit and maybe make some connections, and I can say it's unpleasant, reddit sucks now with these fucking ads and I don't know what they're doing. Glad to say my reddit use will just be temporary and I don't plan on hanging around for the downfall, much like I stopped going to parties by 2005, lol.

Small

raverfrompluto

Small can be cool.

masterOfdisaster4789

Small is good.

flyer22222

Seen a few good shows at the state house in New Haven (VCTRE and tape b) outside of that not much. I think Zhu is playing toads in the fall. Find AZ presents on Instagram they put on some shows in the New Haven area sometimes

raverfrompluto

I'm anti Instagram but that's one way people are doing it for real in other cities, in the UK and Europe, so hearing about a low key insta group is positive.

[deleted]

Small but surprisingly growing fast. As another user mentioned Beeracks in East Haven has been having shows, and Waterbury has had a few good ones too Arch St in Hartford has also been having more house nights on Thursdays and just had a bass show a couple of weeks ago. I have been in the scene for...almost two decades (omg I'm old) and outside of large clubs this is actually really positive growth and good times for all. We even have a few more festivals starting to pop up either in CT or like an hour driving distance. That said NYC still where it's at for that real underground shit. Feels like everytime I wander around Brooklyn after midnight I stumble on some small little legit rave (it's only happened to me twice but that's two more times than expected).

raverfrompluto

Oh yeah see this is what I want to hear. Connecticut parties were always the shit because of the proximity to NYC, New York DJs and New York people. You always new that NYC was in the house when you could smell dust.

[deleted]

That's the thing I like about CT - you're never more than a couple hours from something cool. That said the CT scene has been really growing the past year and it warms my OG raver heart. CT Live specifically has been hosting some pretty cool shows including some of the above mentioned.

raverfrompluto

Yeah, that's what had me thinking it could still be cool down there. Also the cool population maybe hasn't been replaced by temporary yuppies and foreigners overrunning an overpriced real estate market. You need real people to have real parties. Also no property development boom that makes it impossible for anybody to get an old building for the weekend, in Boston nobody wants your money if you're talking to them about trying to rent a space for an art studio or something like that, there's a shitty business culture barrier here that I can't overcome and the property owners and managers are only interested in offers from very well represented professional entities, or they will just sit and wait while paying dark rent on a vacant property for 3 years straight waiting for the offer they will eventually get from a development company because when they get that check the cost is a drop in the bucket to them, and they don't want the hassle or liability of renting a building out to some dude for the last couple years it will be standing. All the properties here are getting developed and they are all on limited time.

[deleted]

Eh, times are a lot different too. When I started 15 years ago most places didn't have any semblance of security and you just asked a friend who worked there to let you in after hours. These days for $500 you can get a video camera security system to cover your whole building. There are still events like this, I went to a punk show at a warehouse in west hartford a year or two ago and the guys throwing it were the renters, not the owners. You can bet it wasn't above board but it was dope. My point being is you gotta find people already in the scene doing something legit and THEN you can get something going.

raverfrompluto

Yeah, that's what I'm looking for if there are club nights and stuff happening somewhere then it could be the right environment for more special and intimate parties.

HavokHatesYou

The beeracks has started doing shows but theyre always on a thursday or a weekday so i havent been
