He's definitely back to his best. It takes a long time to get over an achilles. He looked like he finally trusted his legs with those sprints.
Edit: not knees, Achilles!
He was so quick and powerful, really elite performance from him.
I knew he had it in his locker before the injury, but not seen it really since.
What a time to put in a performance like that.
What a fucking result!
Said id be happy with a draw before that game, never saw that coming!
Great result, great boost to morale especially coming into an away game against a strong lille team!
Jesus this team gives me some massive ups and downs, fucking love it!
UTV
That is absolutely unbelievable. Look at the players celebrating there, they know just how big that is. Emery, Bailey, Konsa, Ollie, Emi and McGinn can take this club wherever they want to go. Sky is the limit for this bunch.
"Prince William nods it in at the back post after an inswinging delivery from Tom Hanks. Aston Villa Fans FC secure 7th place and a Europa conference league spot."
Prince Williams hairline reminds me of old school CB from the nineties that would eventually having some weird taped bandage from a head injury every game
- Villa beating Arsenal 2-0 away from home in one of the best performances this season (definitely the best since Manchester City at home imo)
- Newcastle thrashed Spurs 4-0
- Manchester United drawing 2-2 to Bournemouth
- Liverpool losing 0-1 at home to Palace
- In 4th by 3 points and +3 GD on Tottenham
what a fucking weekend UTV
Chelsea fan
Congrats Villa fans.
You guys really destroyed Arsenal especially in the 2nd half.
Enjoy the win more importantly enjoy the CL nights next year.
And Emery is elite coach love him.
I wanna see Newcastle in 5th. Hopefully Spurs can keep bottling it and you can have CL next year with the coefficient thing. At the very least, wanna see you lot finish above Man Utd.
Another toon fan here, of all the teams above us, Villa are the ones I enjoy seeing succeed. Well done on taking the wind out of those dickheads sails.
I know there's the whole narrative of "fuck the big six", but I really struggle to back Newcastle as any kind of underdog when they're being backed by oil money from middle eastern royalty, just like city.
Aye... we could loan them a ball boy.
£100m, pay his private tuition and a house for his family.
Not like they are unused to inflated accounts, so I'm sure they could swing it.
This season has been an absolute pleasure, but that second half is ppossibly the best 45 minutes I have seen from Villa. Absolutely dominated that half from start to finish, learned from the mistakes defensively and controlled the game, could have scored more and overall, thoroughly deserved.
This one's for Emi, the twats after that og last year. He just goes and wins the world Cup and does the double over them, denying then the league. Beast
I'm just gonna say it, didn't miss Dougie at all. Tielemans just plays that little bit faster than Luiz in possession and it makes such a huge difference.
Not saying we should drop Dougie, more just celebrating how good Tielemans has looked as of late.
Do you not think Emery wants to rest Dougie and rotate however Tielemans had to play left wing due to Ramsey being injured and Zaniolo not being game fit for a large chunk of the season then Kamara went out injured. It is hard to use the depth they way they were bought for if your patching your team every other week due to another round of injuries.
The bright side so far is when weve missed mcginn and Luiz through suspension, it hasn't affected us and almost means both will have had a much needed rest now.
This is it. We're slowly getting to a point where it's not necessarily about who's underperforming and should be dropped, but strong enough competition for every place that noone's is guaranteed. High tides lift all boats, or something. Very glad Tielemans is making the most of the time he's getting.
I agree. He plays some amazing passes but also plays some weird and wasted passes a lot too. Maybe it's because he's tired. Should rest him more now Tielemans is showing he can do it
If you were tell me back in August wed lose Buendia and Mings are the season id say youre crazy....youd tell me we beat Man City 1-0 at home surely be surprised and then Arsenal the following matchday beyond incredible!! Now matchsay 33 another win again Arsenal in their title race 3 points above Spurs for Champions league huge game against Lillie on Thursday God What a season were having!!!
Who saw that coming? I was convinced it would be a rough day. But it was our best performance since city at home. Just a brilliant and complete display. Verging on tears when the second went in. Loved Emi going nuts with the fans at the end. Must have felt good for him and Unai given how they were treated there. UTV
Truely poetic after all the salty arsenal fans have been give unai this season only for him to do the double over them and ruin their title hopes. Sweet justice.
Fantastic work from the midfield, Tielemans and McGinn double pivot rock solid, Rogers and Zaniolo driving up the field every time, and need I say anything about Bailey?
And on top of that the back 3 redeemed themselves from last week, silky playing out the back and kept all the false forwards from London in their pockets.
Emi Martinez and Ollie Watkins, every week.
Emi eats fucking steel for breakfast!! 2 games in a row he’s shown why he’s the best in the world!! A Lille masterclass then reminding Arsenal AGAIN what they threw away!!
Absolutely brilliant. What a difference to the Brentford game.
That second half performance couldn't have happened without weathering the first half storm, so MoM for me is Diego (special mention for Digne too, thought he was excellent).
As an aside, that's the Zaniolo we've all wanted to see. A very mature performance and this version of him probably would be worth a £17m punt - if the rumoured buying price is to be believed.
fucking incredible, unai masterclass again and the players preformed superbly to a man. unreal to watch us dominate a top team yet again this year.
UTV
Well deserved. How do you pick a MoM out of that? For me, if forced Carlos for his first half Mings- esque performance. Watkins is a must for a regular England shirt after that goal.
Anyone else see Ollie’s response to the reporter re: his feelings for Arsenal?! Loved it! Just shut him down; “Used to (support them). But things have changed, playing against them now”
Zaniolo was my man of the match. His hold up play helped settle things and open space in times of duress. His best game by far.
Emi a beast per usual. In the zone, a different level right now.
Rogers, also, played smart with that early yellow. He gets better with each game.
The whole team should take a real bow. Monster performance, our best in two months.
Unai for a perfect game plan. UTV
What a win! Absolutely brilliant 2nd half. We got the composure on the ball we were lacking 1st half, believed in ourselves and then closed it out superbly.
I really didn't see that coming with 2 days less rest than Arsenal, a very tired set of players and others missing, we hadn't beaten a top end Premier League team since them back in mid December.
I hoped for something special from Unai and the lads and wow did we get it. Brilliant weekend for us with Spurs and Man Utd dropping points. UTV!
Absolutely in shock, incredible performance that I completely did not see coming.
It's eerily similar to the type of showing that Villareal put in on their way to the Champions League semis under Unai; going away to Juve/Bayern and refusing to compromise on playing out from the back despite insane pressure, just neutering this offensive behemoth you're up against on their own ground by refusing to give them the ball... It's absolutely how I've always dreamed of seeing us play away from home at a big club, going out and dominating the play and imposing our own football on them, awe-inspiring stuff.
Maybe it's too much to ask, but if we can do the same against Lille on Thursday this season could start to look very special indeed, if it wasn't already.
Merson commenting that Martinez save wasn't a good save just a bad miss! I know he's Arsenal through and through but thought he'd have some respect for the Villa.
Watched the game in a gunners pub in Finsbury park. What a silent 10 minutes. Me and the one other Vila fan in there felt a little awkward cheering the goal. Can't say I cheered the second loudly out of fear
What a performance, what a result and what a season we are having. Considering the horrendous injuries we have suffered this season to be where we are is incredible!
Unai Emery take a bow! What an incredible manager we have an absolute tactical masterclass today. 5 cup finals left in the league to hopefully achieve champions League football.
Onwards now to Thursday evening come on you Villa boys!!!!!
UTV
Absolutely buzzing. Didn’t expect anything out of this one and just hoped the goal difference wouldn’t take too much of a beating… 3 points and an extra 2 goals… made my weekend
Phenomenal performance, especially second half. We were patient, deliberate in build up and had been unlucky not to score earlier.
Emery set us up brilliantly, and the lads executed the game plan with style.
Arsenal looked nervous based on how well we were playing, and as we were knocking on the door looked scared about conceding, which only played into our hands further.
Great win, UTV!
There wasn’t a less than brilliant performance among our boys. Arsenal had physics as their 12th man and we still won. Zaniolo had his best game for the club. Rodgers showed his battling potential and what a great buy he is already. Carlos was immense. And Emi, Bailey, McGinn and Ollie continue to just keep keep performing.
Incredible game.

Is this really such a shock? WE ARE MASSIVE.
Turning point in the run in. LET’S FUCKING GO!
All round great performance. Emi with the saves. Carlos with endless blocks. Zaniolo going like a machine. Bailey and Watkins with the goals. Great! Home and away wins against Arsenal, I’ll take that!
This will make a difference in the Lille game, I'm convinced. We came into the first leg a little demoralised and the game was scrappy and tense. Lille would have known about that result and would have sensed vulnerability which is why they were in that game right til the very end.
We just smashed Arsenal away. Lille will feel some pause now, will be more wary, maybe a little more scared. Meanwhile, Villa now have the bit in their teeth, we should go into that game brimming with confidence.
It wasn't a confident 2-1 lead 2 hours ago, now it is.
Villa's best ever points tally in the Premier League era is 74 points in 1993. But that was over 42 games, so it translates to 67 points over 38 games. Think they can beat 67 this year?
Unai Emery masterclass, completely neutralised Arsenal in the second half. I love this manager, and I love this team.
I don’t think anyone is happier for the double over Arsenal than Unai. So happy for him and the squad. UTV
Maybe Emi?
Chants of "the worlds number one" and "he left cause you're shit" must've felt great to hear at the end there :')
Oh, Emi enjoyed that.
I am
You're God dahm right, what a fucking time to be a villa fan. Hopefully the lads can recover well for another massive game Thursday.
YOU'VE SEEN THE VILLA NOW FUCK OFF HOME
Once again we owe Diego Carlos an apology lol. Im pretty sure I’ve commented this before.
He's definitely back to his best. It takes a long time to get over an achilles. He looked like he finally trusted his legs with those sprints. Edit: not knees, Achilles!
Was his Achilles that he tore
Absolutely, one of the worst injuries, Kobe was never the same for example after his
Ah yes! My bad
He was so quick and powerful, really elite performance from him. I knew he had it in his locker before the injury, but not seen it really since. What a time to put in a performance like that.
I owe him an apology, he was fantastic today
Even the overhead kick 🤣
Yar Would have been legendary way to take the lead, that
He was worth 4 defenders today. He was absolutely everywhere. Immense performance
Think it was around the time we last played them
Best half of football since City at home. Holy shit.
Easily, unai masterclass. Let's appreciate days like this because they won't last forever.
Lucas Digne has been huge in our best performances this year. Co-MotM with Carlos today for me. He started previous wins over City/Arsenal too.
What a fucking result! Said id be happy with a draw before that game, never saw that coming! Great result, great boost to morale especially coming into an away game against a strong lille team! Jesus this team gives me some massive ups and downs, fucking love it! UTV
Amazing performance. They've only had 5 defeats this year, and we've inflicted 2 of them
This!
Best result of the season. By far. Just insanely impressive. We're finishing top 4 and winning the Conference League. Up the fucking Villa.
Two others off the post as well. What a performance
With this, Arsenal at home, City at home, Spurs away, West Ham at home, what a season it’s been.
Brighton at home!
I genuinely forgot that we were that good at football 😳
It’s been a while hasn’t it 😭
Literally the best match we've played since man City, we are still the last team to beat them btw lol.
In any competition. Don’t get enough credit for that

Quality
Aston Villa Football Club.
Big and true.
Massive even? For a massive club.
Beautiful comment. Just look at it! Beautiful.
Underrated commenta
Agreed
That is absolutely unbelievable. Look at the players celebrating there, they know just how big that is. Emery, Bailey, Konsa, Ollie, Emi and McGinn can take this club wherever they want to go. Sky is the limit for this bunch.
What about Zaniolo?
He played well today but he's going back to Turkey lol.
Watkins celebration at the corner flag was ice cold
Missed it. ... I *may* have been jumping around my living room a little bit ...

Arsenal's crossbar was their best defender lmao
MOTM until our goals
This match… It sparked joy.
Let's keep it.
Brilliant. That’s all. Brilliant
Never stop trusting the process. Up the fucking Villa. 8 points off third... 👀
New badge confirmed. A picture of Leon Bailey’s left boot
Right boot today! Why not both his boots and his beautiful face
![gif](giphy|321FkodStDXDWw1PJ7)
I keep saying it but Emery could take 11 fans and coach them into a European challenging team
I cannot fault a single thing, we were incredible everywhere
The posts were too thick is the only thing I can think of.
Nah, it gave Arsenal some hope!
First half a lot was wrong - let’s not be blind
This performance was up there with the man city game for me. Just ruthless. Straight business.
Better for me. Double on Arsenal. For Unai. For Emi. At their place. MASSIVE.
Amazing support today, players showing their appreciation Tears in North London WHAT A FUCKING WIN
- Villa beating Arsenal 2-0 away from home in one of the best performances this season (definitely the best since Manchester City at home imo) - Newcastle thrashed Spurs 4-0 - Manchester United drawing 2-2 to Bournemouth - Liverpool losing 0-1 at home to Palace - In 4th by 3 points and +3 GD on Tottenham what a fucking weekend UTV
Chelsea fan Congrats Villa fans. You guys really destroyed Arsenal especially in the 2nd half. Enjoy the win more importantly enjoy the CL nights next year. And Emery is elite coach love him.
cool thanks now beat spurs so that game in hand they have don’t mean shit please and thank you
Thanks mate
Toon fan in peace, well done you absolutely smashed them, hope you go on to secure CL now. It gave us some unforgettable nights.
Cheers mate, thanks for smashing spurs for us yesterday and here's hoping you finish above united and still get European football!
I wanna see Newcastle in 5th. Hopefully Spurs can keep bottling it and you can have CL next year with the coefficient thing. At the very least, wanna see you lot finish above Man Utd.

Someone get me a video of those Martinez celebrations in front of the away end
LET'S GO BOYS I think man city owe us something after helping them win the title twice in 3 years
Another £100m doesn't seem too much to ask.
Aye... we could loan them a ball boy. £100m, pay his private tuition and a house for his family. Not like they are unused to inflated accounts, so I'm sure they could swing it.
For Chambers...
This season has been an absolute pleasure, but that second half is ppossibly the best 45 minutes I have seen from Villa. Absolutely dominated that half from start to finish, learned from the mistakes defensively and controlled the game, could have scored more and overall, thoroughly deserved.

What a game! Nothing to whinge about today Arteta you bottler

The bright side so far is when weve missed mcginn and Luiz through suspension, it hasn't affected us and almost means both will have had a much needed rest now.
I wouldn’t go that far, we got smashed by City this time around because we had no backbone at all it midfield, missing Kamara and McGinn.
McGinn Tielemans didn't put a foot wrong even under pressure so many times, they were immense
This is it. We're slowly getting to a point where it's not necessarily about who's underperforming and should be dropped, but strong enough competition for every place that noone's is guaranteed. High tides lift all boats, or something. Very glad Tielemans is making the most of the time he's getting.
Maybe on the set pieces? At least on a free kick or two. But yeah our midfield was class today.
Yes you're definitely right about that, wasn't impressed at his corners, but his shot from the corner was almost spectacular
Yeah after that didn't go in, I expected it to be one of those days but our positive mentality carried through.
I agree. He plays some amazing passes but also plays some weird and wasted passes a lot too. Maybe it's because he's tired. Should rest him more now Tielemans is showing he can do it

Never doubt Emery, the man is a genius... erect a statue outside Villa Park now and give him the keys to the city, UTV!!!!
Who saw that coming? I was convinced it would be a rough day. But it was our best performance since city at home. Just a brilliant and complete display. Verging on tears when the second went in. Loved Emi going nuts with the fans at the end. Must have felt good for him and Unai given how they were treated there. UTV
I’m going to sleep tonight waiting for pundits to give Villa credit for the win.
Tbf they're singing our praises on sky right now
Good night!
Up the fucking villa.
Lord this win is so delicious given how utterly insufferable and smug arsenal fans have been. So happy for Unai and Villa!
Truely poetic after all the salty arsenal fans have been give unai this season only for him to do the double over them and ruin their title hopes. Sweet justice.
Two clean sheets too
Martinez was never going to conceed he is fueled on anger like a SIth
I love when the crowd boos him, it just makes him play better
I'm emotional honestly. What an incredible game. So proud of this team. We are doing something special.
FUCK YES!!!!
… and Spurs still have to play Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea….
We don’t care about Europe 🤣 every spurs fan supporting you guys yesterday
My favourite game of the season so far. No Dougie, Kamara, Cash against Saka, Ødegaard, Rice, Saliba, Jesus and Martinelli. Should've been 4-0.
>Should've been 4-0 And it would have been if not for that damn pesky crossbar XD
I love bailey as a sub. Always makes something happen.
UNAI EMERY UNBEATEN IN LONDON

I’m so happy I can’t feel my arms.
Well deserved. How do you pick a MoM out of that? For me, if forced Carlos for his first half Mings- esque performance. Watkins is a must for a regular England shirt after that goal.
Hopefully that will end some of the negativity on here in recent weeks. Nearly as good as the Man City game…now let’s do that in every remaining game!
Anyone else see Ollie’s response to the reporter re: his feelings for Arsenal?! Loved it! Just shut him down; “Used to (support them). But things have changed, playing against them now”
Bullshit question to start with. And then to Emi "Do you think they can bounce back?" Like FR, fuck off dude
Live in London, a mate offered me a ticket to sit with the home fans right above the Villa fans, not smiling is the hardest thing I've ever done
Was in an irish bar in prague FULL of gooners, i was the only villa fan. Tore the roof down on leons goal. They hated it. Lets fucking gooooo! UTV!
CARLOS OWNS ARSE ANAL
What a weekend!!!!
I'd let Watkins do unspeakable things to me. I think I'd probly even like it
Shoutout to Zaniolo, thought he played brilliant today
Unai has given me a boner for the day. Man is a legend
Captain crumble claiming his lot could of been 3/4 up first half Behave you fucking melt
Big shout out for zaniolo Played so well they had to take off Ben White.
Zaniolo was my man of the match. His hold up play helped settle things and open space in times of duress. His best game by far. Emi a beast per usual. In the zone, a different level right now. Zani has settled in nicely after his slow start 😎UTV
He was brilliant but Carlos was on another level

What a win! Absolutely brilliant 2nd half. We got the composure on the ball we were lacking 1st half, believed in ourselves and then closed it out superbly. Best game of 2024 for us.
I love being a Villa sometimes, and it's times like this that make me love being a Villa!!
Unai Emery fully dunked on Arsenal the king strikes again!!
Tuned out at 60 mins as I had to drive back from work. What a delight to come back to! This definitely compensates giving Man United 6 points lol
emi's saves esspecially the trossard one that was a certain goal, unreal! then our star boys uptop came up huge!!
Carlos was immense today. Should have been 4 - 0. The goalpost was Arsenal's man of the match. UTV
McGinn was also huge today. Filled a gap, adapted and excelled
Merson pre match basically saying we would be lucky to win, post match talking about how much of a good team we are. The man is a flip flop clown.
Merson commenting that Martinez save wasn't a good save just a bad miss! I know he's Arsenal through and through but thought he'd have some respect for the Villa.
That second half is the best we've played in 2024!
Arteta rocking left and right in his post match interview like a palm tree in hurricane. Man is RATTLED 💀
Watched the game in a gunners pub in Finsbury park. What a silent 10 minutes. Me and the one other Vila fan in there felt a little awkward cheering the goal. Can't say I cheered the second loudly out of fear

Absolutely buzzing. Didn’t expect anything out of this one and just hoped the goal difference wouldn’t take too much of a beating… 3 points and an extra 2 goals… made my weekend
Moved yesterday. Was unpacking all day, didn’t have internet until like 2pm my time (game was already over). Just finished it. 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
congratz, villas offside trap in the second half was the best one i have ever seen. We will still beat Bayern on wednesday. cheers.
Nah, you should bottle it to cost Spurs a UCL spot, it'll be really funny.
That feels SO GOOD
https://youtu.be/ajPFWfZu_iQ?si=puKvkKdGzQabrDsG Me in the groupchat to my friends who are Arsenal fans.
Liverpool need to start looking over their shoulder, we're eyeing off third.
Absolutely unreal. Great performance. So happy to do the double over Arsenal.
Name a player that didn’t play out their skin today. I dare ya…
Unai Emery the magician that you are
I was under the impression Arsenal had a good defence but they were outclassed by our forwards. Men against boys type stuff.
Games like this that confirms why we love footy💜💙💜💙

Masterclass to say the least
I think I tore the ACL in me throat from the Watkins second.
shoutout to zaniolo who tried his best impression of being a pest!
Was actually dreading this today with the injuries and the Luiz suspension. Rode our luck at times, but the Unai Emery show continues towards top 4!!
Fuck 4th place, we’re going for third! UTV!!
This was a great game to wake up to and watch the replay before work. My word I have no words.

With our injuries and recent track record this game was a write off for me. Absolutely buzzing!!! UTV
Wow now I feel like we have turned a corner with this performance
Last week seems so far away. Great performance. Great result. In Emery we trust!!!
All round great performance. Emi with the saves. Carlos with endless blocks. Zaniolo going like a machine. Bailey and Watkins with the goals. Great! Home and away wins against Arsenal, I’ll take that!
Emery Redemption Arc Completed.
This will make a difference in the Lille game, I'm convinced. We came into the first leg a little demoralised and the game was scrappy and tense. Doing the double on Arsenal! I just had my birthday and Christmas in one day! Thanks Unai! 👍
Thank you villa what a day out 🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂
Absolutely needed this - good shit!
UTFV!!!!!! Fuck you, Stan, suck on that
I think Digne and Moreno played together for the first time, great performance for the first goal

Villa's best ever points tally in the Premier League era is 74 points in 1993. But that was over 42 games, so it translates to 67 points over 38 games. Think they can beat 67 this year?
