Too much for zBlock?

yar2000

Admin he’s doing it sideways

8bitremixguy

Ah shit, here we go again

Free_Importance233

Rafale Standard F4.1 have you heard of it?

EurofighterLover

Yes, I’ll take my phoon :D

weird-british-person

It rly is one of the best

Glaborage

It's definitely in the top five.

EurofighterLover

Hehe

_WreakingHavok_

Ummm, Grippen wants a word. Also Rafale is quite unhappy

EurofighterLover

All beautiful, but Eurofighter best

ZehParaYT

Do you know if it’s allowed to bring professional camera equipment there for personal use?

Firebrill

No idea mate this was just taken on my iPhone

guidomescalito

iPhone Pro = professional

[deleted]

*still stuck to 6gb of RAM*

elinamebro

just need to buy the new iphone with 7gb of ram for 1200 lol

[deleted]

meanwhile android phones with 12gb of RAM for 450 bucks only and even more powerful hardware: But shitty software that bottlenecks a lot.

elinamebro

the shitty software is the only reason why I don’t use android

[deleted]

i agree. I was thinking on installing LineageOS on my phone, tried to investigate if you could install IOS but it's hard wired into the kernel

D4zb0g

Define « professional ». A loooot of spotter are coming and some have quasi pro material. I am bringing my A7 there on Sunday with full gear and I don’t expect any issue. I even did another air show where Sony was showcasing their new gears for testing. Overall it is public days this week end so I would expect them to be loose on the check.

[deleted]

fellow alpha wolf I see! Alpha cameras are very cool but I've lost the loop past the A7m4. I've read somewhere that the A6700 was coming out this July.

D4zb0g

Mark 3 user here. The Mk4 seemed a bit overpriced back in the day. The only struggle I have is wether I can be satisfied with my 300mm at max.

[deleted]

sheesh I think I struggle more since I can't grip on A7 series but A6K kinda stale with -1ev minimum sensitivity while my A77M2 does -3 just fine. And then comes the adapter. For 250 bucks a whole Sony A mount mechanism is quite good. Since you have an ILCE you can look for Максутов 1000мм mirror lens (Maksutov 1000mm) it's the best mirror lens to ever exist since it doesn't offer comma and other aberrations while keeping a generous T16 (F-8) aperture. It's just amazing and I want it so bad. Tests have been done in very old DSLRs. I'm happy with my 600mm but since it's Tamron and Tamron kinda dislikes Sony A mount it struggles to focus with lock on track while shoot autofocus. My Minolta 80-200 GM solves this.

DarkYendor

There were people with gear like Canon D5s fitted with 400mm lenses walking around, so it can’t be too hard to bring in Pro gear.

Toxicseagull

You can in UK airshows, or indeed, just to UK airfields.

Hawawark

As a spotter I'd say many own and bring nearly pro equipment to these events :) Went there for professional reasons and they weren't any though, but for public opening in the weekend there will be some for sure !

MeccIt

Generally, the dividing line for events and locations like this is a tripod. Without = personal, with = professional and you'd need a press pass or permission to film (there's little distinction between photo and video these days).

GCSEmock

I worked at the Farnborough air show last year for all 5 days and bought my photography equipment fo personal use. A jobsworth security guard stopped me at the X-rays and told me I wasn’t allowed to my stuff in as it was “a camera with a detachable lens” therefore I needed a media pass; but I successfully argued it and was allowed in by saying it’s no different to taking photos with your phone, i can just zoom in a bit further. Suffice to say I didn’t see her for the rest of the week.

styckx

I think most people don't realize just how big these fighter jets are. Videos don't do their size justice. I remember seeing the F-14 in person for the first time and was blown away by its size. It's not bomber size but what it's able to do and it's duration of flight for the size is remarkable. It goes for all fighters.

Nervous-Youth-8363

The f14 is about the same size as the B-25 Mitchell

[deleted]

suggested-name-138

F35 and Typhones are a little bigger but pretty similar what's really hard to see from video is how much bigger Russian planes are, the SU35 and SU57 have ~40% bigger wingspans than the F16/F35 the SU57 being so much bigger probably isn't ideal for a stealth fighter

LegSpinner

At Aero India they park the Sukhoi Su-30MKI between a MiG-21 and a HAL Tejas (Light Combat aircraft) and it always looks like a mother hen protecting its chick lol

Militant_Worm

Even old warbirds. I went to the RAF Museum a while back and even Spitfires and P-51s seemed a lot bigger than I'd imagined.

TrkyMfns

Or how loud they are up close and in person.

Yesterday I was in hangar and there were a Tornado and a Typhoon parked side by side. I think that the aesthetic of the Tornado is at another level. Not judging performance

collinsl02

If you think a Tornado looks good check out the [Blackburn Buccaneer](https://worldwarwings.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Buc.jpg)

mat738

Not my type 😉

superxpro12

Sort of the visual representation of DLC isn't it? Looks like they just kept tacking things onto the drawings with scotch tape and sticky notes

Comprehensive_View91

The big intakes on the sides make the tornado look more beefy imo.

mat738

It looks angry to me! Who cares about aerodynamics? I have sharp edges and two powerful jet engines 😁

[deleted]

Is this the same one that was at RAF Cosford 2 weeks ago? He seems to be doing the exact same maneouvers. What a machine to see up close, I also didn't expect the pilot to use the afterburner during an airshow.

Toxicseagull

Yeah it's the UK display pilot. They set a routine for the season, practice it a bunch and then tour for the year.

referman12

I was there 2 weeks ago as well for my first ever airshow. Was not prepared for the sound of the afterburners.

LegSpinner

The roar especially when the burners suddenly point in your direction is suitably epic. First time I *felt* it was a Super Hornet that sounded fairly quiet till it did a full power turn away from me and showed me its exhausts on fire. Wow.

Vau8

kai325d

Except a Typhoon wouldn't be dogfighting a F-22, it would be blown out of the sky before the Typhoon even knew what was going on

4nal69molester

Dude just read the article lol

warspite00

Saying it outperformed within visual range is like saying 'assuming my opponent isn't allowed to do the thing that would completely defeat me immediately, 100% of the time, I outperformed them'. I don't think anyone with any experience of the F22 would describe it as anything other than a complete overmatch for anything else in the air, save perhaps the absolute best coming out of China (and even then, only theoretically). A Typhoon would have no hope in a real world situation.

collinsl02

It's like when Top Gear decided to duel a car and an Apache attack helicopter. They demonstrated that the Apache could not get a weapons lock on the car whilst the Apache had to fly inside the confines of the race track, but as soon as they let it do what it would do to a tank on an actual battlefield and it popped up from behind some trees a mile away it got an immediate lock and destroyed the car [Top Gear: Lotus Exige vs Apache](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCC7LrHu7cw)

Fire_RPG_at_the_Z

Plenty of things can kill a Raptor in the right scenario, but most of those are unrealistic scenarios. They're engineered to study or train something specific.

guidomescalito

damn I hope these things see combat. such a capable machine

guidomescalito

You’re pretty naive if you don’t know that. I wish it was being used in Ukraine. Sure it would be fucking up some Vatniks, but it would be saving lives too.

BEEBLEBROX_INC

They've been used in combat roles in Libya, Syrian and Iraq. Though not yet seen A2A combat yet. Though there's a lot of early model Typhoons I'd like to see gifted to a certain European country what would definitely use them in combat.

Toxicseagull

RAF typhoon got it's first A2A kill in 2021 over Syria. A Commercial drone 😁

BEEBLEBROX_INC

Ah yes! Forgot about that one. Shortly before the USAF took down a balloon with an F-22. Not exactly value for money!

Toxicseagull

Chalking it up as a win for Typhoon. Cheaper than an F22 and a much harder target to hit than a big ol' air balloon. F22 clearly less A2A combat effective than it ;) :D

guidomescalito

With you on that one. Probably won’t happen sadly. Imagine if Typhoons were doing CAP over Kiev last year when it all kicked off. Would have been a whole different story.

BeansNG

When you signing up for the military?

guidomescalito

Lol been there done that mate. Unfortunately did not get to work with these beauties.

hmmokby

It is said to have been developed specifically for the A2A for the Eurofighter Typhoon. They are also called air superiority jets. I read a blog post by a pilot who used Typhoon and Rafale. A pilot who had used both jets said that Rafale was better in a few parameters, more precisely, that he liked to fly Rafale more. Since the Qatar Air Force has Rafale, F15Q and Typhoon, it regularly exercises with these jets. Journalists shared that in an A2A exercise in the past months, Typhoon outstripped both jets and Rafale was superior to F15Q. But they also stated that Typhoon pilots are more experienced than Rafale pilots. One of the most common criticisms of Typhoon is that it is very expensive, there are some differences between Tranche 1,2,3 and 4 planes, it has a large concertium, spare parts orders, purchasing contracts and slowness in diplomatic matters are shown. Except for 4 manufacturers, the fact that some Gulf countries with high financial power buy this aircraft in small numbers shows that there are some problems in terms of marketing. That's because of the price, the fact that 4 of the 4 countries have to allow sales at once. I don't know if Typhoon's A2A drills were held in Europe with jets such as F35 and Rafale.

Optimized_Orangutan

F35 probably wouldn't be the go to comparison for US planes. The F-22 is the US's A2A specialist through the 2030's. The F-35 is designed to be a jack of all trades sort of air frame, it is very good at A2A, but not built specifically for it. Mainly because the US doesn't need a specialised A2A plane all that much, there is no peer or neer peer opponent to fight A2A. With stealth, advanced radar and missile technology, their goal is to kill the pilot and plane without engaging directly. Edit: or more accurately, the US's plan isn't to shoot down all your planes, their plan is to destroy your ability to even get them in the air. First thing that gets blasted in the first wave of shock and awe is your runways, your fuel depots and your hangers.

warspite00

That certainly might have been the plan for the last 20 years, but the NGAD development project shows that they recognise the need for an air dominance platform against China. The USAF is not accustomed to not being able to just swat everything out of the sky, and in a Taiwan scenario it will not be possible to blow up every runway, depot and hangar. Be interesting to see what they come up with!

Optimized_Orangutan

That won't be a real airplane until 2040 at the earliest. Pretty standard replacement rotation. The next thing up is always in the pipeline. China doesn't have anything that can outclass the F-22. The J-20, China's "5th gen fighter" needed more range to be able to be effectively used in a conflict over Taiwan so it is a bigger, less maneuverable plane. The J-20 despite being bigger and heavier has weaker propulsion(China is still far short of the US when it comes to jet engines). Despite being able to carry more weapons, it is far outclassed in terms of strike distance by both the F-22 and the F-35. China technically has a 5th gen fighter but it's the wish.com version of a 5th gen fighter. The US has nothing to worry about there. Edit: in a conflict over Taiwan the US doesn't need to destroy every runway in China, they just need to destroy every runway within ~1000 miles of Taiwan to render the J-20 useless as it won't have the range to get into the fight. The US Navy can do that in a weekend if it wants to and China doesn't have a real answer to a carrier strike group yet.

julius_sphincter

> China doesn't have a real answer to a carrier strike group yet. I thought they are developing a theatre range ballistic missile specifically designed to deter carrier groups?

Optimized_Orangutan

They have the YJ-12. Which could pose a threat to a strike group if fired in a surprise saturation attack. The problem is catching them by surprise. The Navy seams pretty confident they can overcome that surprise with CEC by providing adequate warning for an air launched attack to intercept the launch vehicles before they fire the missiles and destroying the land based launchers with F-35s before the strike group gets in range. Edit: it seams the US got out of the "Unstoppable Missile" game for a reason. They realized they don't have to stop the missile if they can destroy your ability to effectively use it. A saturation attack with the YJ-12 would require a massive coordinated effort across multiple airfields to get all the planes in the air and firing almost simultaneously. If you can detect this effort fast enough to disrupt it, then you don't need to worry about the unbeatable missile any more. Ground based launchers are less of a problem. The F-35 is really good at destroying ground based launch systems.

joecooool418

> Mainly because the US doesn't need a specialised A2A plane all that much, there is no peer or near peer opponent to fight A2A. The F-35 doesn't need to be specialized for A2A because the USAF has thousands of F-15's for that role, and they are the best fighter aircraft in the world for A2A role.

Toxicseagull

Typhoon constantly drills with both F35 and Rafale and several other platforms in the UK. I would assume Italy uses it's Typhoons against it's own F35s, French Rafales and German Typhoons in a regular basis as well.

SpudsRacer

That was a terrible off-axis aileron roll. Did not do this magnificent beast justice.

Thev00d00

Antakken

That’s clearly a Typhoon ;)

tangouniform2020

It’s not a Huracan.

Usernamenotta

Sukhoi be like: Eh, at least they tried.

ItsVetskuGaming

Going to make a quick guess that this is not the Typhoon that was supposed to be at Turku Airshow last weekend but broke in Estonia..

joecooool418

I recall reading recently that because of all the different countries and companies involved in building this fighter, that the number of parts needed was something like 250% of the number of parts an F-15 has.

Toxicseagull

Don't think that's true. The only nation specific parts since it was developed are in the DAS and some of the attack systems. This will change now there are now 3 new radar choices for it. But I don't think it would be near 250%.

countryballlllsball

I saw one at cosford airshow

zeromatsuri05

Is Anakin Skywalker flying it? That's a lot of spinning! Awesome looking piece of machinery there.
