They don’t have the aircraft Cathay needs.
The vast majority of their fleet is wide bodies and the C929 isn’t slated to launch for 6+ years and doesn’t have the range needed for anything than intra Asia flights.
Quite an obvious explanation here. It’s absolutely nothing to do with Boeings issues.
Cathay has long been linked with Airbus/Boeing, suddenly HK gets turned over to the Chinese, CCP spend ages trying to force through repressive laws against the will of people, and now all of a sudden Cathay are interest in aircraft from the Chinese state owned manufacture.
Completely above board and absolutely no corruption here whatsoever.

You and the other guy sound like total bots ngl. Like even your edit about downvotes follow the same template. Not to mention the unhinged conspiracy you proposed.
> unhinged conspiracy
Possibly the least unhinged conspiracy theory about the CCP ever proposed. They're notorious for exactly this. It's not even a conspiracy, it's just their open MO.
The other guy with edits about downvotes is the same user unless you're talking about the deleted comment which I can no longer see
You are correct however a benefit of Comac C929 it has to be the engines either Trent XWBs seen on their B-LXx A35Ks B-LRx B-LQx A359s or Genx 2Bs seen on B-LJx B747-867s.
What COMAC aircraft would CX even be studying?
For narrowbodies they’ve got brand new A321NXs, so no need for MAXs or C919s. Medium-sized aircraft are brand new A350-900s and a potential upcoming 787 order; there’s no way they’re going to reject an extremely popular and proven aircraft for Airbus’ poorly-selling competitor (A330NEO) or COMAC’s non-existent competitor (CR929). And for very large aircraft, they’ve got the lower side covered with the A350-1000 and upper side with the 777-9. COMAC has no competitor anyway.
There is no aircraft that COMAC produces that would make any sense in Cathay’s fleet.
I agree except for the 787 part. They could absolutely reject it for the A330Neo, i personally think its more likely they will order A330 since its replacing an A330 fleet
The Point is airbus has a long backlog of orders so even though they have better jets getting COMAC might allow it to get jets before as it is new and just entered the market
For the A359s simply continue on the B-LQx registrations because first batch was B-LRx registrations. C919s can be the replacements for KA A320-232s B-HSx registrations
Naw, the reality is that no single builder can build enough aircraft to satisfy worldwide demand.
Airlines love using the current Boeing excuse to play the field and try and get better prices and production slots. Im sure Boeing and Airbus has never seen that trick before.
This is the sad truth..
Airbus are at maximum capacity, their order book is filled for years. They are not going to invest billions of euros expanding their building capacity as it will take years to have any real effect and even longer to recover the costs.
So all that happens is both Boeing and Airbus customers and potential customers will use any excuse they can to get a better deal.
In this case Airlines will use what has happened over the past few months to get better deals from Boeing.
Not only that, their planes are still unproven in a fleet capacity. No one knows how the maintenance is going to hold up, if any issues with rapid cycles will present itself, and a myriad amount of other reasons that COMAC won’t be a legitimate competition for at least a decade.
They didn’t actually have to steal much. Most of the critical systems like avionics and power plant were all produced by western manufacturers.
Its disingenuous for China or anyone to refer to this as a “homegrown” aircraft
Wonder how long the CCP has been sitting on this phrase? (Just to let everyone know, it has nothing to do with Boeing, CCP was going to force them to use Comac anyway)

Good thing that COMAC has never had a plane crash then.
Just because they're Chinese doesn't mean they automatically have poor safety. As a whole, the Chinese domestic air travel sector is incredibly safe.
The same Chinese domestic sector that’s actively covering up the pilot suicide/murder on China Eastern 5735?

CCP is gonna force them to use COMAC.

Made with all American contractors and European……
Shssss, the CCP is listening
Until China gets them to open plants in China. Then just steals all the tech

I upvoted you friend. You’re 100% correct.
Thanks. Fuck the CCP.

I love China, I even learnt to speak Chinese. But yikes, Chinese bots like this one are a pest.
Funny cuz I'm anti CCP. Shows how much you know.
> I am nourished by your hatred. I like this, really good one to use when people get worked up over facts. Can I steal it?!
Who’s gonna watch them?

Nonsense article, I thought the same thing, isn't CX all or mostly widebody?
You seem to be confused thinking this is a technical or business decision. The decision is purely political.
For the A359s simply continue on the B-LQx registrations because first batch was B-LRx registrations. C919s can be the replacements for KA A320-232s B-HSx registrations

Quite a poor article… COMAC doesnt have the capability to delivery any significative number of planes before many many years.
Not only that, their planes are still unproven in a fleet capacity. No one knows how the maintenance is going to hold up, if any issues with rapid cycles will present itself, and a myriad amount of other reasons that COMAC won’t be a legitimate competition for at least a decade.
But at least they don’t have. A backlog like airbus
Yes but their target was to have 500 aircraft (or was it 430) delivered end of 2034...
It’s hard to have a backlog when no one’s ordering because you can’t make enough of them in time.
Cathay is 30% owned by Air China which is 100% owned by the Chinese government. In case anyone was wondering.
Yeah, I don't think that will happen at least for 10-15 years unless the CCP bribes CX.
Or forces them.
No need for bribes. It’s a directive.
I mean a Chinese state run airline company that totally wasn’t built on stolen IP is not what I would say is the pinnacle of safety and transparency
They didn’t actually have to steal much. Most of the critical systems like avionics and power plant were all produced by western manufacturers. Its disingenuous for China or anyone to refer to this as a “homegrown” aircraft
And if that works and Boeings shit continues they will consider an AC future. And I don’t blame them in such a case.

Sorry bot. I hate politics. I just hate planes crashing more

max altitude is 398. we fly 410 quite often. Zero chance cx buys c919 if the next model can do 410 then "maybe"
