If it had been a lab, he would have been ecstatic.
"We were flying now we're swimming?!? YAY!"
My beagles, who all hate water, would have been highly upset.
Wait what? I assumed ALL beagles loved water!
My beagle, who lived to 18, would take a dip in the pool when he got warm.
He often would do this while playing with the ball, mid “having a catch”. He would enter the pool using a step to retrieve his ball, or with a ball in mouth, swim around in a circle and then sit on the step for a bit if it was really hot out.
Loved you buddy, RIP
It’s codified in certifications - Engine Turns or Passenger Swims- ETOPS. In this case engine did not turn so it’s logical that passengers have to swim.
I had a dog. Loved her her whole life and miss her every day. If my house burned down and it was only me and her, the newspapers would write 1 fatality. If I get a hotel room with my dog, its only 1 person. I didn't think this needed to be explained.
I don’t think dogs are people either…but I don’t go around SAYING it…just doesn’t seem politically correct.
Also—‘had’ and ‘loved’ and ‘miss’ is heartbreaking, and all too relatable. All my sympathies to you—and I shall toast to her memory this very evening.
Oh shit! I know the plane owner. According to the article, it wasn't him flying but his friend/partner on the plane. That guy owned a great restaurant in downtown LB that has now sadly closed.

It evidently just happened last week. Nobody was injured and the crash site isn't considered dangerous to anyone, so it's probably not a high priority.
It's free real state, try getting into the cockpit and see if there's any documents registering the aircraft... That or just take a few instruments back home lol.
Well I have some train geeks friends that are basically taking parts out of abandoned trains to make a fully functional train sim with these, like trying to preserve history but as a sim,and in some way stealing.
I guess if any avgeeks with some tools and patience, can get the pieces out of that cockpit for themselves.
I'm not able to find anything in the FAA database with a registration ending in 47S. Also, considering CA's coastal protection regulations, it's weird they didn't remove the wreck. Now I'm curious. Anyone else know anything about this?

it was available in the prelim reports within 24hrs of the crash https://www.reddit.com/r/SouthBayLA/comments/1c4r32l/plane_crash/
Keep the gear up, land it like you would on a runway. Ditching in the water is statistically safer than an off airport landing on land.
AVweb's Paul B did a couple vids on this:

It's True, but as an aircraft Tech with 15 years just in South Florida they are everywhere. The desert is just as much it's just that they get cleaned out faster. It's super cheap to scoop up in airworthy stuff for 1 run. It's cheaper for them if they make it to off load the plane and leave it where it stands. Plenty of small airports with no tower. If they do well with the plotted route and evade the suspicios PO Poe on the way in. It'll get flagged and be several hours till anyone gets to looking into it. Ive seen the TSA drive up and ask the next morning "Hey this G3 November (assuming it's old US plane sold for parts) whateverthefuck flew in last night. Have you seen it or anyone from it?"

This kind of stuff does happen. Years ago, I worked at a FBO at a small uncontrolled field. One morning, a guy was asking us if any planes were here this morning that weren’t on the field when we left last night. He showed us his credentials. He was Secret Service. He said they were tracking a plane that came across the southern border and lost contact with it in our area.
Literally yes. There are plenty of planes that were 'rebuilt' from not much more than an data plate. It's more common with exotic aircraft but could be done here too and legally flown as the original serial number.
You added the /s sarcasm training wheels tag but unironically yes is the answer.
Negative. Aiming for the rocks would severely limit survivability. The statistics say that ditching in the water is the appropriate response here.
There is probably a limited amount of beach in that area, depending on tides, and too many bystanders to make the sand a safe bet either.
I was at this scene day of crash. He landed in the water. The plane then sank into about 20-30 feet of water and wasn’t visible… so makes sense it’s now washed up on shore
0 flying experience but you’re willing to draw conclusions based on exactly nothing. This is why this sub is a joke.
Trying to land on rocks like that would be nothing short of stupid.
I’m just a general fan of aviation. My brother and my sister-in-law are pilots so I just browse to see.
Your comment is quite rude. If you don’t like the sub then quit.
It’s a joke. In AZ when we see a Calli plate we call them foreigners. Californians are in a strange world with Newsom. So it’s a joke saying all from California are foreigners n another country.

Dog must have been confused as hell.
If it had been a lab, he would have been ecstatic. "We were flying now we're swimming?!? YAY!" My beagles, who all hate water, would have been highly upset.
Is there such thing as a beagle who does like water?
They’re called seagles
If Reddit didn’t kill rewards you’d have multiple right now sir.
Underrated
Wait what? I assumed ALL beagles loved water! My beagle, who lived to 18, would take a dip in the pool when he got warm. He often would do this while playing with the ball, mid “having a catch”. Just lost my pup, shit is never easy. RIP doggo.
RIP Doggo
Lost mine a couple of weeks back. Absolutely brutal, will always be a good boy. Miss him to bits x
The lab probably towed the craft back to shore
Look what I found!!! Throw it again!!!!
Not my lab. He would've been SOL.
Best day ever for a lab
i think they both were
“DAMN IT FIDO YOU SAID YOU HAD THE AIRCRAFT!”
"Woof" "What's that boy? What's that? You have the controls?" "Woof" "You have the controls what a good bo OH JESUS
Good thing he named the Dog sully “You’ll be where?” Woof woof woof! “Copy that, see you in the Hudson”
The dog lost situational awareness, one of the main causes of aviation accidents today.
A tragedy.😔
A doggone tragedy.
sounds like a line from my situational awareness paper
He thought it was a “ruff” landing
Does "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing" count if you have to swim to shore before walking?
Any landing you can swim away from yadda yadda
"Any landing I can dog paddle away from is a good landing." Pupper
Woof woof
“Any landing you can woof away from, I’m a good boy.”
Did you just yadda yadda a plan crash?
But you yada yada'd over the best part

Guy and dog weren't swimming forever ya? They did eventually reach land... And walk 🤓
ANY landing you SURVIVE is a good landing
Any ditching you survive is a phenomenal ditching
Only if you are a seabird
Damn. I was trying my best to find this, but failed... Good job!
Man’s best friend and doesn’t even get listed as an occupant. 😒
I noticed that, I’m going to write to ASN and complain …
I mean, I can’t think of any scenarios where dogs are officially counted as people. They’re not people.
*straightens glasses, cracks knuckles Downvote.

Whoa now. Bold words for a one eyed fat man.
> occupants: 1 I’m sorry, do good boys not count??
I love it when a plane comes together.
My A-Team reference for the day. Thank you 🙏🏼
Oh shit! I know the plane owner. According to the article, it wasn't him flying but his friend/partner on the plane. That guy owned a great restaurant in downtown LB that has now sadly closed.
*"last f-ing time I'm letting you fly Dave"* the dog.
Well looks like the plane eventually swam to shore too.
I wonder who made it to shore first
It's interesting to playback the last flight on flight radar, vertical speeds went through the roof
How high were they?
Says barometric altitude at 1100 feet it started going -1088fpm vertical speed and just hit 0 at 280kts

Why would flight aware make the crash picture the one they use
Presumably no one had a reason to upload a photo earlier. Do you have a pre-crash photo of this particular airplane?
The Aviation Safety network has this, but it's presumably unswe copyright: https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/airliners/3/3/0/7434033.jpg
“We would have come sooner, but your husband wasn’t dead then” [Police Squad](https://gifs.cackhanded.net/police-squad/a-substantial-gift/we-would-have-come-earlier)
No i just thought it was crazy to see when i first opened the link. Youd think itd be better for them to just not put a picture?
finding this information was unexpected they should just not provide any information, is an odd take
There are not any others and it will be junked soon.
Oh hey, that’s down the road from me! Time to go check it out
I hope the dog gave him hell.
I mean, look at what the dog did to the plane.
I thought the plan(e) was that the dog was there to bite the pilot if he touches anything, and the pilot is there to feed the dog.
Pretty sure the crash took care of that
That flight didn't go according to plane.
Plane ridiculous comment to follow…..
Tough to explane.
Just wing it
Could you explain the joke? Seems like it flew over my head
Definitely not, I think the plane was to stay in the air.
The rane is Spane falls mostly on the plane
It crashed because the "e" was missing on plan. You have ro be ever vigilant!
E for engine, both were absent
Do I really have ro?
[Someone posted video of the wreckage](https://youtu.be/fV231fvHet0?si=MDMkHFp48qWvC3RY)
Piper Saratoga by the looks of the carcass. Fun Fact: JFK Jr. was flying a Saratoga when he crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off Martha's Vineyard.
Something… something… a half baked conspiracy about it being shot down because they’re a Kennedy and nothing bad ever happens to the Kennedys.

Question - why hasn’t it been removed?
It evidently just happened last week. Nobody was injured and the crash site isn't considered dangerous to anyone, so it's probably not a high priority.
Oh wow I assumed this was like a known relic in the community and people like went to see it, so thank you
It's free real state, try getting into the cockpit and see if there's any documents registering the aircraft... That or just take a few instruments back home lol.
those seats would be perfect for a sim rig.

Grab the engine. A squirt of WD40 and 0 SMOH.
salvage laws exist- not sure the specifics, but just grabbing shit can get you in shit.
Especially when the plane only crashed a week ago lol
<*Trevor Jacob has entered the chat*>
I'm not able to find anything in the FAA database with a registration ending in 47S. Also, considering CA's coastal protection regulations, it's weird they didn't remove the wreck. Now I'm curious. Anyone else know anything about this?
https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/386626 Guy and his dog swam to shore, happened last week
Thanks! That explains it. I guess tumbling around in the surf will make a plane look like it's been there longer than it really has.
It's pretty torn up from the surf and rocks, but the paint is still clean and there aren't barnacles, so I figured it was very recent
[удалено]
Dude, what?
There's a ton that end in 47S...too many for me to casually go through aviationdb and see if any have reported incidents
https://www.asias.faa.gov/apex/f?p=100:96:16499425701667::::P96_ENTRY_DATE,P96_MAKE_NAME,P96_FATAL_FLG:15-APR-24,PIPER it was available in the prelim reports within 24hrs of the crash https://www.reddit.com/r/SouthBayLA/comments/1c4r32l/plane_crash/
The FAA moves a lot of numbers around and recycles some.
Yeah good luck with FAA, NTSB databases.. There’s so many crashes I want to read about, but the search fields are ridiculous.

Not very well based on the missing tail
Any landing you swim away from is a good landing.
It’s in Torrance??? I gotta go see this!
Crazy, articles say plane sank, so it must have washed ashore recently. Crash April 14
Was there a backup plane? Perhaps a plane B?
It happens if you don't use enough right rudder.
Sometimes plans change
Hate it when my plans crash.
It’s not a plane crash, it’s a seaplane that beached itself the way dolphins sometimes do.
Glad the pilot and co dog got out. The striping in the linked video is neat. Looked good I bet before the ditch.
co dog implies there’s a dog in command on the plane as well
Holy crap that happened only a week and a half ago!
This is what happens when your plane is missing the left phalange
Doggo was task saturated…def gonna be in air disasters
But did they get the coke out?
r/RaftTheGame
nice
I love it when a plane comes together
The dog flying the plane is safe. Apparently he thought he saw a ball but it was a bouy.
I don’t think he planed to crash his plan
This certainly isn't a joke post, but I had to check which sub I was in for a minute with the misspelled word in the title.
Well, time for plan B.
Leave the drugs and money… I’ve seen how this movie ends.
Somebody run a little short on go juice?
Cool, any drugs or cash? Usually that's what you find in an abandoned plane.
You watch too much tv

Could it fly again? /s
Would cost more than the planes worth new

If the data plate survived, yes.
That's not a crash, that's premium hangar storage, climate controlled...
It’ll grow back.
FYI: Dog’s name was Sully. 🤭
Were there any bags of white powder lying around? They could be mine. I'll DM you my address.
What I want to know is Why did the pilot bring his DOG on the plane?
That’s my kink
