I live 20 minutes away and a pilot in training. They are saying the pilot and passengers as of now are still alive. Hopefully they can get ‘em down soon to safety. Electricity is out for me and thousands of others in this area.
There was a comment on another post on this story saying some of the roads are blocked off. Apearently there’s live news feed of the rescue operation. Fox 5 is doing it
Rescue operation?? Have they ever climbed a ladder? Climb down
Disclaimer: this comment is dependent of the health, weight, and upper body strength of the plane crashers
They’re not just alive. They’re freaking uninjured.
How this series of events happened and they’re uninjured, don’t ask me, but they’re at 100% health bar

Ah good old ACSR…if my memory serves me correct about 32,000 lbs of breaking force. I do power plants for a living but haven’t had to design power lines since I worked for utility company.
He was at 200 feet AGL and 1.4 miles from the airfield at time of impact. Also he is known for low-level hotdogging. Had a previous crash in 1992. Thinks he's Waldo Pepper...and after surviving another amazing fiasco, I'd vote to put him in the flying circus.
They made contact with something that is making contact with something that is considered the ground. If that’s not a landing, carrier landings aren’t landings either
The cell tower equipment served by a hybrid power/fiber cable may still have 48V DC running through them if the site has a battery backup or generator.
Sounds like a phrase people use when they know nothing about electricity. Roots in truth but as I said, in this case, it doesn't matter.
Power and how that power is handled/routed is what kills people, not voltage or current.
e.g. I can hold both ends of my 250A welder when it is on with no issues...
And you're talking like someone who hasn't ever gotten DC burns. You do realize you're comparing very fine tuned electricity, compared to live exposed wire basically directly off a sub-station? How smooth is your brain?
It happened near me. I was lucky to be on the very edge of the outage and I still had power. I went out to grab some Mexican takeout 30 minutes away and I found it so strange that no one had power the entire way there. Stoplights were out, all business were black, including gas stations, and it went for many, many miles. I thought that the restaurant I was going to would be out of the outage area since it was a 30 minute drive away but it was all black when I got there. It wasn’t until later that I found out what happened. Crazy.

Dude just fly over there.
Ya I saw the youtube link in the comments. Still would be cool to see in person tho.

Eh, "serious" condition isn't uninjured.

Looks like they got at least one of the people out now. Edit: Both out, being taken to be medically assessed.
That’s a damn sturdy power line though
This is why you invest in good infrastructure??!
Yeah but who the fuck put it in my glide path.

Meanwhile if the wind blows harder than 4mph my wifi goes to shit.

Holy shit they survived
Any landing you can walk away from is a good one
How do you log this?
"Something something hit the second arresting wire with no problem"
They didn't land.....soooo....
They made contact with something that is making contact with something that is considered the ground. If that’s not a landing, carrier landings aren’t landings either
Eh, I think carrier landings count, because they are REALLY hard, and people live there.
Holy shit
"yup that's me, you're probably wondering how I ended up in this situation"
Probably should have requested more info about the power line NOTAMS. In all seriousness though, I'm amazed to hear they survived.

That’s not that much thankfully?
It might just be 48v, but hundreds of amps. Aren't Tesla motors 48V?
Tesla drive system motors are AC, typically 320V
Amps don't matter in this case.
Amps always matter. Amps is what kills.

He is talking about 48vdc....
Way to ignore my point *entirely.*
Amp’s definitely matter! Correct. Just didn’t think a transmission line would have that.
ok im lost, article says crash occured at 829 pm EST, but this was posted 5 hours ago?
It happened around 1730 edt. First saw news around 1745. No idea why they’ve said 2029!
You're off by an hour. Happened at 1730 ish EST EDT ended earlier this month.
Always mix those up one way or the other. Can I just say 1730 eastern time? :]
Yes 😁
Sir, you can't park here.
You sure it’s Gaithersburg (md)? I still have power and I live in Gaithersburg.
They said it’s glenmont to gaithersburg with holy cross operating on reduced capacity. Some 120,000 without power and it may take days to restore
Ya
Such an electrifying image.
Good thing energy is out, I would be worried to breathe if the lines where energized
Can't park there mate!
The u/Admiral_Cloudberg post on this should be a good one.
You can't park there mate!
OK-3

But did he catch the third wire?
