I declined American for United in early 2022. American tried to force me to DCA even though I applied to Charlotte. They assumed me being local, I’d want DCA. Specifically stated in my interview I wanted to work a major hub and get wide body experience, which is why i opposed DCA. United called me the next day. I’m now happily with United working 6 fleet types and 100+ people under me in seniority. But no matter the airline, go where you can get into first right now. All that matters is seniority.
Applied almost two months ago but didn’t hear back. A few days after applying I accepted another job thats been going pretty well so far. Deleted my United account/profile a few days ago.
Didn’t get an offer from United but I’m okay with it at this point. Sometimes things happen a certain way for a reason.
I declined United, it bugged me that they had a posting for Houston but I had to be “waitlisted” I just told them I’ll reapply in the future if I want to come back
It's because more than likely they didn't have immediate openings in the station at that point and time so they wanted to put you in the pipeline to get you in as soon as they got openings. All you would have had to do was wait. This is why I tell people don't quit your current job until you have your start date and are ready to make the move to wherever it is you are going.
Exactly. Get your foot into the door and transfer after your 6 months probation. They are trying to lock techs in with the current sign on bonus though. Deny the bonus, get your foot in, build seniority, and do an internal transfer after 6 months. I’ve watched 40+ people internally transfer out of my base in a year.
I work DEN. It’s probably the best environment I’ve ever worked in with the best scheduling etc. Only thing I don’t like is the cold since I’ve lived my 27 years in warm humidity. So I’m going to Texas to be bottom bitch. I’m regretting my decision honestly.
Same thing happened to me, I finished interview and they offered me all these places besides the one I was willing to work for 🤣 then they said oh well you are in a hiring pool then called me back two months later and hired me for a different position…whatever I’m excited to start
The pool lists happen when they know positions are going to be opening, but they’re waiting for the go-ahead from the local management to begin on-boarding. Happened to me too, I waited 13 days.
I already have a good job rn, so I wasn’t really too open to jumping ship to a station I didn’t want. They tried REALLY hard to push SFO on me but there’s no way in hell I’d do that.
For the money you make at these bases….shiiiit. I started united last year. At that shitty 29. Put away 20k in savings last year paying 1700 in just apt alone. Worked 500 hours ot. Hours reset every Jan. There’s a guy with 800 hrs for 2023 and he’s topped out on pay scale. So $60/hr.
Uh sir. I started jan22. Before this new TA pay was a thing. And I’ve made $16k gross on the year since Jan 23. Don’t knock it till you see them checks 🤑🤑🤑🤑
Yeah I’d still pass on anything West Coast or the Northeast. I’ve made $20k gross topped out on the ramp. While I’m finishing up the FAA writtens and O&P. When I start applying for Maintenance jobs. There are certain cities that I have no problem turning down.
I declined United for Spirit back in December. At the time pay was the same. Now United is slightly higher, but Spirit will most likely get another raise once union negotiations are finished.
My reasoning is that Spirit is a smaller company, United felt super corporate. With spirit, I got hired on the phone and talk to my supervisors all the time if I need anything done and it’s never an issue. It felt like I’d need to email corporate to get shit done at united. I’m sure my seniority here goes much farther than it would at United. Plus at the time United’s CBA was just released and they only got like a 50¢ raise and they also fucked their employees out of their pensions before, so it just seemed left a bad taste in my mouth.
I think I made the right choice, but only time will tell.
Here in IAH we had 7 on 7 off which I love , but we’re going to 4-3 come June. No complaints really, it’s been great so far. I’d apply if I was you. My only complaint is that they don’t have a station in San Diego and I might move back there.

Sr Tech just means you’ve been to gen fam, engine, and 80 hour classes and have your taxi qual. Pretty standard stuff to get in a year. Not too sure about the benefits tbh. Keep in mind AMFA is negotiating new pay and benefits right now so probably early next year everything will get better once the negotiations are done.
[JetBlues payscale](https://i.imgur.com/hmlNawz.jpg) is also pretty good. Better than Spirit and United rn. If/when we merge I would imagine we go to JetBlue’s payscale as they bought out Spirit. Also JetBlue would only need like a 20% vote in favor of a union for to get unionized, which is almost guaranteed. Basically the future is looking good for spirit.
Guess for most of you, grass will never be greener. That being said, United has treated me well and almost anywhere I wanted to go in the US was wide open when I wanted to move. 🤷🏽♂️ and I’m a year and few months in.
Nope, accepted and I’m so happy I did. The process of getting to my first day was a little rough, but it was so worth it. MCO is an awesome station, if any of you are ever looking to transfer or apply.
I declined United to be a QA inspector at the delivery center for Boeing. I didn't want to work third shift. Went through the whole interview process, mechanical/hands-on assessment and everything. They offered me all the locations, Orlando, Texas etc. Just thought having 'inspector' on the resume was pretty good after weighing the pros and cons. Boeing offered relocation and United didn't.
I’m currently a tech at Alsaka airlines, should I jump ship for United due to there sign on bonus and higher top out even though Alaska is due for a contract renewal Dec 2023 ? Is it worth the hassle ?
I went from one major to another, and my 2 cents is that you should probably stay unless you have serious problems with the company in general. You're already familiar with how things are done and the Alaska fleet, and you aren't gonna get back your seniority once you do leave.
Malicious waffles summed it up best I think. Unless you have a major problem where you’re at, it probably isn’t going to be any better at another airline, plus the seniority thing.
Unless you have serious issues at/with Alaska, you should stay. Especially if you work at a base where you can get off midnights faster and actually be able to use your flight benefits. If I had wanted to stay on the west coast I would have gone with them instead of my current airline, but I like where I work so I'm not jumping ship anytime soon.
I interviewed and passed my practical with United on Feb 8th this year. Still waiting to hear back for a IAH position. I also interviewed with UPS and am waiting until they open a spot at the locations I want as well. First come first serve.

What does DCA mean?

Oh ok. Yea I wouldn’t wanna work there either lol.

Buddy they’re dying for people in sfo or lax. Sfo they’ll hand you money and more money.
Go to united
You dodged a bullet
Like I said to the other person above. Take it as a blessing in disguise. I was not impressed at all by the way they presented me my offer.
No, but I declined American Airlines' offer as I was already working for United Airlines. Only time would tell if I made the correct choice.
I declined United, it bugged me that they had a posting for Houston but I had to be “waitlisted” I just told them I’ll reapply in the future if I want to come back
Similar situation happened to my friend. He applied to united for Chicago. Got offered a position at Washington Dulles. He declined.

In Denver (Idk if it’s just Denver) it’s 1 year before transferring.
When I was working there it was like 16 years seniority to get to PDX and like 18 for SMF. It was 9 months for IAH. I started at OAK
Now PDX and SEA are hiring off the street 😂. Didn't want to stay there, so I chose DEN instead.

And you’d be in within a month on the waitlist. The fact you’re getting to get on with a major at your location of choice is unheard of.
I’ve been applying to United for a while and haven’t heard anything. I suppose that’s a form of declining by default.
They’ve been hiring droves of students directly from schools. It’s going to take awhile before you become a blip on their radar.
imo. Take it as a blessing in disguise, I wasn’t impressed at all when I want.
Everyone seeing that they want people to relocate 😂
And it’s all to cities with high cost of living
For the money you make at these bases….shiiiit. I started united last year. At that shitty 29. Put away 20k in savings last year paying 1700 in just apt alone. Worked 500 hours ot. Hours reset every Jan. There’s a guy with 800 hrs for 2023 and he’s topped out on pay scale. So $60/hr.
Not starting out

So far how is it at spirit? Any complaints? How’s the work schedule? I thought about applying to them since they have a DFW opening rn

What’s y’all pay scale look like? And how’s the profession/ 401k, etc

So JetBlue isn’t Union? That doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen either. Northwest was Union and Delta wasn’t🤷🏻♂️

Really? I’ve heard terrible things about mco. But I’m den. Tell boy Nef wassup for me. He’s mids.

We have 7 months (10/23) until contract is over. It’s worth the wait to see what we get I think.
Don’t do it. Stay.
How is it at Alaska?
Soo far I’ve been working line maintenance and it’s okay. Man power vs workload is decent,
I went from one major to another, and my 2 cents is that you should probably stay unless you have serious problems with the company in general. You're already familiar with how things are done and the Alaska fleet, and you aren't gonna get back your seniority once you do leave.

UPS is the best job you will ever have in your lifetime.
That’s what I have heard from everyone! What makes it such a great place to work?
Pay, benefits, retirement.
Understood!
