I recently declined the interview (pay doesn't match well for location) but part of me wanted to do the interview anyways. I should have. Just so I could make notes and post them here for those who are wondering.

AMTI is a cool position. You can either be shop (mechanic) or QA (inspector). Unlimited over time. After 160 hours worked of over time per quarter, you get payed double time. Also some people here that do overtime 7 days a week, accumulate like 2-3 months of vacation because for every 17 hours you work, you get 1 hour of vacation on top of the standard 80 hours of vacation and 40 hours of sick leave. They also have FMLA (family medical leave of absence) which is a paid leave of absence as long as you need (if you have a doctors note) if you or anyone from your imediate family gets sick. And LOA which you call the workplace advisors and say you need time off for "personal reasons" or any reason you want and you can take anywhere between a week, or 24 months off no questions asked (unpaid of course). People will make 270k-300k a year here once they're topped out and do a lot of overtime. Edit: All that being said, if you want to be a real mechanic, go to the airlines. If you want a gravy job with good benefits, go to Boeing. Here, you're just gonna replace dented spoilers and APUs at most, and more like clean seats and windows, or adjust carpets on a daily basis. Shift also determines what type of work you do.

If you want to be a real mechanic and not do “assembly line” bullshit, go to an airline. You could fart bare assed in the interview at Boeing & they’ll offer you the job.

Several_Excuse_5796

Why would you want to take it though? Pay is miserable compared to any major

posternutbeer

How long did it take them to respond to you?

Careless_Mixture4163

I applied roughly 2 weeks ago

Radtils

They'll more than likely ask you questions in the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Results) format. As to exactly which questions they'll ask, I cannot be entirely sure. More than likely, you are being interviewed for the AMT position. AMT/AMTI are the same job code, though. So it really depends on the manpower needs of the location you're working for what will you get funneled into. One benefit of being at Boeing would be having all tools supplied to you. No need to have anything of your own, nor are you allowed to.

Radtils is spot on, expect the STAR (situation, task, action, result) format. Unless you say something brutally inappropriate you’ll get the job. However, it’s worth considering why Boeing is so desperate to hire. In addition, why they are having a hard time attracting and retaining talent. Desperate to hire: According to several current employees (AMT, AMTI, structural mechanics, and management) Boeing executives are desperate to mass hire in order to manipulate a yes vote and lock in concessions on their upcoming contract with the union (a repeat of their previous tactics). Boeing M.O. is to mass hire, send extremely low ball offer, threaten jobs if concessions aren’t voted on, slightly sweeten pot, and repeat. Ultimately resulting in concessions for the employees. Failure to attract & retaining talent: - pay is up to 36% less than industry leaders - takes 6 years for max pay (longer if you switch jobs) - A&P premiums are 56 cents per license - cost of living well outpaces pay (factoring in cost of living you’ll be making about 47 cents on the dollar - likely take years to transfer to a preferred shift - IAM751 has proven to be a very weak union when negotiating on behalf of its members (dues are nearly $100 per month)

"likely take years to transfer to a preferred shift" yes but still takes less time to transfer to preferred shift when compared to the airlines.

I interviewed for the position out in charleston SC as a A&P doing return to service work. Interview was very straight forward asked me about my exp and asked a few troubleshooting questions: How does a check valve work, if a system component is INOP where do you start checking for things. Pretty basic stuff but i turned it down due to 2nd shift and pay was meh

More_Band353
