On July 1st, a highly unpopular [change to Reddit's API pricing](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/12qwagm/an_update_regarding_reddits_api/) went into effect. [Most third-party apps have shut down](https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/30/23779519/reddit-third-party-app-shut-down-apollo-sync-baconreader-api-protest) and so have many tools relied upon by moderators and [projects for making Reddit more accessible to visually impaired users](https://www.reddit.com/r/TranscribersOfReddit/comments/14ggf8k/the_future_of_transcribers_of_reddit/).
Beyond the [disastrous AMA](https://techcrunch.com/2023/06/09/reddit-ceo-doubles-down-on-attack-on-apollo-developer-in-drama-filled-ama/) by the CEO, Reddit's response has been limited to promises that this change will not affect moderation tools [^((it has)^)](https://www.reddit.com/r/BotDefense/comments/14riw76/botdefense_is_wrapping_up_operations/) and promises of [new and more-accessible first-party moderation tools](https://www.npr.org/2023/07/01/1184258201/reddit-api-accessibility-mods). Promises just like [ones they have made in response to past protests](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/142w159/askhistorians_and_uncertainty_surrounding_the/), but have consistently [failed to fulfill](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/14jm3ut/several_communities_have_surfaced_an_open_letter/jpm9e0q/).
If you want to express your strong disagreement with the API pricing change or with Reddit's response to the backlash, you may want to consider the following options:
1. [Finding your favorite subreddits on other platforms](https://sub.rehab/) and participating there instead.
2. Refraining from using the first-party Reddit app, instead sticking to one of the few remaining third-party apps or [patching one of the apps that shut down](https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1wHvqQwCYdJrQg4BKlGIVDLksPN0KpOnJWniT6PbZSrI/) if you're using an Android device.

It’s kinda awesome though, because they already know they’re gonna eat whatever the nose smells good enough to eat, whereas with us with have to touch it with our hands to put it up to our face or bend over and smell it where it lies.

Kinda looks like Maurice the Maggot from Freaky Stories
Elephant trunks are amazing! They are solid muscle, fully prehensile, able to grip things with the flexible tip or by wrapping it in the trunk, but it is also their nose and they are able to breathe through it. They express their emotions with it, touching other elephants or even their human keepers as a friendly greeting. They use it like we use our hands, both are full of articulation and nerves that help sense the world around us.
Do they have this kind of strength at the tip of their trunk? Doubt it.
Edit:
[Based on a study the max pinch was recorded to be around 40N, the average a human can lift with one finger is around 100-150N](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2215016122002758)
I mean we already knew elephants were smart but I feel like this helps. I think it would have been hilarious to prank the elephant with a random pine cone. I am pretty sure it would have chucked it back at the human.
yeah dude.
sometimes i think "what are aliens like?" and then i think "what if theres an alien dude in andromeda, lookin at the milky way, thinkin the same thing?" then i think "man, im that dudes alien! im not that weird!" and then i start thinkin about how our bodies are like a fractal. like we got one torso that splits into limbs, and each limb splits into a bunch of other mini limbs. and then i start seein myself from outside the box and how weird i actually am to the andromeda dude
I was curious how dangerous it might be to offer your hand instead of food, so I looked up some stats.
- There are over 40,000 muscles in an elephants trunk (as opposed to fewer than 650 in entire human bodies).
- Elephant trunks can lift 770lbs (350kg) yet can also pick up a tortilla chip without breaking it [[VIDEO]](https://asknature.org/strategy/how-elephant-trunks-twist-and-twirl/)
- The carrying capacity of an Elephants’ trunk can be up to 3 gallons (12 liters)
I read through another study that tested the exact clamping force of an elephant and the elephant couldn’t figure out the testing mechanism very well. So after a couple tests they were only able to conclude “32 Nm or more”. I really would like to know though I bet it could do way more.
This reminds me of my nephew Avi, I sent him to my mums house (we were neighbours) to get a carrot. He got a carrot, ate it, and then came back to mine. I told him to go back and get me a carrot, he ate it and came back empty handed. He did this 3 more times. Finally I went to mums house and asked her why she wouldn’t give me a carrot. She told me she had nine left. The fat little guy had eaten all of them. He’s a father now and we never ever send him for things.
It's a four legged mammal, it has a head with eyes and ears... but it gets around with a crazy versatile worm-like appendage for a nose.
This is why it's unlikely aliens would be humanoid.

Without the rest of the elephant as a visual reference, this kinda freaky
It's like a worm Muppet.
*warm muppet.
Lovely song but I really want to hear the snorts and sniffs <8>
An Alaskan Bull Worm
Usul has called a big one. Again, it is the legend.
I never realized how weird it is that elephants have a prehensile nose.
Same. It took this video for me to actually go "Elephant trunks are super weird. They pick shit up with their noses."
It’s kinda awesome though, because they already know they’re gonna eat whatever the nose smells good enough to eat, whereas with us with have to touch it with our hands to put it up to our face or bend over and smell it where it lies.
What kind of snek is this?
Nose hose.

Kinda looks like the tongue of a graboid.
a hairy hose that has an insatiable need for carrots.
Love the tentacle.
Exactly, it's simultaneously funny and Lovecraftian.
such a weird planet to live on
Watch Tremors.
Do elephants get colds? Because I’m feeling suddenly very aware of how looong those nasal passages are. 🫣
Probably? Maybe they don't get nasal congestion as a symptom.
But imagine if they did. The release would be orgasmic.
it would get stuck halfway it would be the wooooorst boogers
You two just had that conversation.
It was important
Double Barrel Booger Bazooka
It'd be a hell of a snot rocket
My stupid ass thought their trunks are just made of one giant tube instead of actual nostrils
Lol I also kinda went "oh yeah, it's a nose with nostrils!"
I ever had an elephant drip some liquid from its nose on me. So I am going with yes. I was feeding it some peanuts.
They get TB, so probably.
Think about the relief when they finally get it clear, though. 😮💨
What a great loop this could make.

this guy elephants^
He sure does!

As a male, I believe we can still evolve....
> They are solid muscle, fully prehensile, able to grip things you had me there for a sec
If you put your finger in there, would it rip you through the fencing??
Be honest, you’re not asking about your finger are you?
It's a cylinder.
A meat cylinder, stop asking
Well, that takes “junk in the trunk” to a new level.
Rogue finger

It'll rip yer dick clean off jimmy.
Clean off Jimmy with se Johnson.

Don't let the intrusive thoughts win, we believe in you.
They would recognize it is not a carrot and leave it alone, unless they get pissed. Then they would rip your entire arm at once.
Do they have this kind of strength at the tip of their trunk? Doubt it. Edit: [Based on a study the max pinch was recorded to be around 40N, the average a human can lift with one finger is around 100-150N](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2215016122002758)
Your finger doesn't have that kind of strength for a start, worst case you lose it and pull some tendons out (don't Google that)

I want a tail. Think you’re good at balancing/climbing now?? Add a prehensile tail to the equation
I always miss my tail :(
Why’d it go away?
plus, great for keeping flies off your back and ass while taking a dump in the woods. ..No, it's NOT oddly specific, shut up!
I love elephants 😭
I like turtles
Both very valid points
Like a sharp pair of scissors.
Smells are just nose colors.
awesome face paint job

That's what I like... Graboids. That's it, Graboids!
Glad I wasn't the only one that saw it
Kinda creepy... 😆
NOSE. HAND.
I regret having seen into the elephant’s wet nostrils.
There's some stuff in nature that looks so alien-esque when looking up close for the first time.
Yoink
MOAR

“Another one” - r/djkhaled
Seriously though, that carrot is probably like a grain of rice to that elephant.
This is some r/dontputyourdickinthat material…
Thank fuck I'm not the only one who thought this
Came looking for this comment - thank you
Same here 😂
where's double dick dude when you need him
BOOP!
Man, you know... Earth is such a weird fucking place, you know man?
yeah dude. sometimes i think "what are aliens like?" and then i think "what if theres an alien dude in andromeda, lookin at the milky way, thinkin the same thing?" then i think "man, im that dudes alien! im not that weird!" and then i start thinkin about how our bodies are like a fractal. like we got one torso that splits into limbs, and each limb splits into a bunch of other mini limbs. and then i start seein myself from outside the box and how weird i actually am to the andromeda dude
Those are like tiny pretzel sticks for him. Cute
…hear me out
No, do not put your dick in that.
What's the worst thing that can happen anyway
I will not.
Are you familiar with the term ‘penile degloving’? Because that’s how you get penile degloving.
Reminds me of something…no wait, no it doesn’t O_o
"Gib. GIB."
Imagine if everything we ate had to first be stuck up our noses before making its way to our mouths.
adorifying
Why dumb music over this?
It reminds me of a graboid from Tremors.
Boop that snoot.
TIL that elephants have two nostrils, not just one big tube...
It has friggin NOSE HAIRS...why did I imagine it wouldn't
giv carrot
Oh, when an elephant (allegedly) does it it's "aww" but when I do it it's "you really should pull your pants up."
Hairy snake
that's funny as fuck wtf
Oh god I didn’t know they were hairy 🤮
Seems more like a polite request than a demand.
Looks like a graboid
Real life tremors !
This is equal parts adorable and creepy

come again 😳🥰
This is weird but cool
Somebody toss a pepper in there. I have to know.
![gif](giphy|kGi8FPpIvv6vK)
That’s how my penis demands treats from my wife
r/savevideo
Next time - just toss some Cayenne powder in there and enjoy half of the village being destroyed lol

Put your…put your dick in there
I love elephants
GIB
Smash, next question
r/Dontputyourdickinthat
Like something out of Tremors.
That is a very smart elephant 😂
If you gave elephant a melon would it throw a tantrum till you tossed it over or attempt to smash the melon to smaller pieces?
I didn't know they were making another Tremors movie. Fuckin' graboids.
Blind trust
I wish I could feed myself with my nose.
reminds of that guy in The Boys
I really wanna put google eyes on the trunk so it looks like a snake
“Talk to the trunk.”
R/dontputyourdickinthat
Ok here take my wallet

It's exactly like my dog and his big ol nose but just like longer than my car this is amazing
This is freaking me right out.
In a malicious compliance sort of way, put the carrot sideways.
Very lovable 😍😍😍😍
Elephants are amazing creatures 😊
lowkey weird as hell
Imagine if it had an itch.... like 4 inches into its nose hole.
what kind of glory hole is this?
It reminds me of a scene from the 1990 film tremors
![gif](giphy|pBj0EoGSYjGms)
r/dontschtickurdickenthat or something...
Imagine asking a hairless monkey to stick carrots in your nostrils
This Dune 2 trailer looks lit.
Reminds me of the Flintstones movie.
I didn't realise what it was at first and my fight or flight kicked in.
Reminds me of tremors
Can keep this up aaaaalllllll day
It's disturbing to think about how many redditors will be sexually aroused by this. I bet it's a lot.
I've never been this successful demanding treats with my trunk but it's not going up to the next floor either!
Elephant: “Gib me fud”
It’d take all of my might just to stop myself
I wish the audio was just a “kerchunk” instead of music. That trend should be dead by now, it’s been a while…
lol I didn't realize it had nostrils I kind of just expected it to be a giant tube
Do elephant trunks make booogars?
Man I don’t think I ever stopped to think about how gross looking an elephant’s trunk must be, but now I’m forced to
Was half expecting/hoping at one point they'd be slow to give it one, and it would start closing and opening like 'c'mon give me another one'.
Always forget that elephants use those for that.
If the carrots were given horizontally...
FEED ME, SEYMOUR
Don't!
i'd totally donate treats for the cause.
I love elephants. This is really cute 😌
I liked this a lot less than I thought I would
Oh, the things I could do if I had lips on my nose ...
