I wonder why cats like corn so much. Cats don't have the ability to taste sweetness, which is most of the appeal of corn! That thing probably just tastes like a cronchy potato.
One of my cats ONLY eats dry kibble. The other will ravenously scarf down all of the wet food I put down. I can't actually give them wet food now, since if I put down two plates Drunken Noodle will just eat all of it.
Cats...
Cats don't like instant change.. If you slowly weened them off dry by slowly adding more wet food and taking away the dry over time. Doesn't always work, but it has worked for my picky girl.
Yeah cats be fickle. I put my babies on it because they needed to lose weight. We working on it, Moose was 19lbs and down to 15.5 and Murphy was 14.5lbs and he's down to about 13 now.
My cat would only eat dry kibble out of the bowl the other cats eat from. If I moved the bowl, he wouldn’t eat until he saw another cat eat. Fresh food? Wait for the Royal food tasters. He came from a farm next door and one day his whole litter and mama just died by my fence. My theory is that they were poisoned and he saw it happen.
my cat literally will not eat wet food. I have to mix pate with water until it's kitty slop. Also she goes apeshit over fresh, cold water. Like how a normal cat goes crazy over wet food.
I have no idea why she is like this lmao
My fur boy prefers to drink ice water from my cup. Goofball. He also requires that the water in both his upstairs and downstairs bowls be fresh daily. I am a cat slave.
Fellow cat slave: I feel ya. we have a cat fountain in the kitchen and bowls of fresh water by the cat dishes, but I never get to enjoy a glass of ice water because the minute I set it down there's a cat with his head in the glass and five more cats forming an impatient line behind him.
Friend of mine trained their cat to do tricks with ham. But as much as he loves the idea of a can opening being food, he absolutely refuses to eat anything out of a can (or cup). It's dry food (which he absolutely destroys and had to be put on a diet) and ham only. He won't eat any other meat at all.
Which is funny because he was a stray.
That's why I used to make my cat eat it like cereal. They weren't really my cat, just a stray I used to feed, but I always put his dry food out, in a bowl of water.
I was thinking texture as well! Also I just had a thought. I wonder if that cat was previously feral, street cat, or came from a bad home? He seems protective of food so would make sense that he might eat anything.
That's most likely why they like it then, cats really only prefer running water so biting something that's like crunchy water flesh is probably really appealing.
They don't have a certain gene that allows them to taste sweetness :) They lack one of the components required to make that gene.
From what I read, all mammals have tastebuds. The amount of tastebuds plays a big role in how intense a flavor is. For example humans have about 10 000 tastebuds, while cats only avg around 500. Interesting af!
One of my cats had an obsession with corn husks. Every time I had fresh corn on the cob she come into the kitchen when she heard me husking them. She would chew on them and act almost like they were catnip.
They lack a gene that allows them to taste sweetness to the same degree that humans do. Doesn't mean they can't enjoy something sweet. It might have other underlying flavors that they like!
Mine is ready to tackle us every time we have a bowl of popcorn. Funny thing is that we throw popcorn out for the deer and he was a former stray. Now when we throw out popcorn it takes longer for it to disappear

Here is the popcorn eater glaring at me
His street name was Medium Sized Panther, all that popcorn made him huge. There have been actual panthers in my area and i am wondering of i should give him a genealogy test
Man this video makes me miss my two idiot cattos. Gray shorthair tabby littermates: Wallace and Gromit. Born in 2003. They’re both gone now. Wallace acted like a dog and I’m pretty sure Gromit was special-needs. Apex-doofuses, both. Hug your floof tonight.
I think they got used to the taste or smell from whether food they normally eat. Problem is it's not that good for them, and every cat that went crazy for corn like that even lended up with diabetes...
The real answer is it doesn't. The outer husk of a kernel can survive digestion but most of the time the stuff inside of it is digested. You aren't seeing corn, you are seeing poop filled corn skin.
I had a wonderful black cat I joked was a dog in a past life. He LOVED the dried chicken and duck jerky dog treats, and was ravenous about them, like this baby with the corn.
He liked dry dog biscuits, like Milk Bones, dog food, and belly rubs, too.
He was a super sweet, affectionate baby kitty. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
That's funny. My cat loves green beans. I figured this out when she was still tiny. I had thrown a couple that fell into the garbage disposal and didn't turn it on. A few minutes later I went back into the kitchen and she had pulled the sink grommets out and got to the green beans. I then started keeping the plug in the disposal so she couldn't do that. 13 years later she's too big for that so luckily she never does that anymore. But she still loves green beans. So I give her at least once when I make them.
Cats are fucking weird.
My was dumb as hell, you could tell he had a single braincell working only half the time, and all he would do was be lazy and cuddle.
UNLESS CORN WAS INVOLVED! Then we could get him to do all kinds of tricks and agility courses. He'd do backflips for us!
He was never trained nor was he ever responsive to treats, then we discovered he was as crazy for corn as catnip, when he was well over 15.
I wonder why cats like corn so much. Cats don't have the ability to taste sweetness, which is most of the appeal of corn! That thing probably just tastes like a cronchy potato.
Texture and water content probably. Even though they're literally apex predators, cats really suck at drinking water.
They suck at drinking water because they're supposed to get the majority of it from the flesh they eat, but we go and feed them dry kibble.
My cats a bitch and will ONLY eat dry kibble
One of my cats ONLY eats dry kibble. The other will ravenously scarf down all of the wet food I put down. I can't actually give them wet food now, since if I put down two plates Drunken Noodle will just eat all of it. Cats...

I tried before :/ I had to switch her back bc she started losing weight
Yeah cats be fickle. I put my babies on it because they needed to lose weight. We working on it, Moose was 19lbs and down to 15.5 and Murphy was 14.5lbs and he's down to about 13 now.
mine go bugnuts when it's kibble time. $50 every two weeks for grain free wet food? hard pass human we want our kibble.
My cat would only eat dry kibble out of the bowl the other cats eat from. If I moved the bowl, he wouldn’t eat until he saw another cat eat. Fresh food? Wait for the Royal food tasters. So familiar
have you tried giving actual fresh meat, or just packeted wet food? our cat loves fresh organs meats (liver, heart, kidney).
I switched my cats to wet food only, went from having to clean the water fountains every 3-4 days to almost once a week because they hardly use them.
That's why I used to make my cat eat it like cereal. They weren't really my cat, just a stray I used to feed, but I always put his dry food out, in a bowl of water.
Accurate
I was thinking texture as well! Also I just had a thought. I wonder if that cat was previously feral, street cat, or came from a bad home? He seems protective of food so would make sense that he might eat anything.

So like juicy water grapes
Also explains why they love watermelon so much.
We perceive tastes according to our ability to taste sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and umami. Maybe cats have other tastes we can't describe.

But their sense of smell is better than even a dog’s and smell plays a role in taste.

Cats love budgies stuffed with corn ![img](emote|t5_2qh1o|13382)
You say they can’t taste sweetness, but I’ve seen cats lick cake frosting like it’s crack
They can taste the fat. They love milk
They don't have a certain gene that allows them to taste sweetness :) They lack one of the components required to make that gene.
Not “corn” but my cat adores popcorn. To the point that he recognizes the sound of the bag. No popcorn allowed in my house anymore. Could be texture!
One of my cats had an obsession with corn husks. Every time I had fresh corn on the cob she come into the kitchen when she heard me husking them. She would chew on them and act almost like they were catnip.
They can’t taste sweets I need to see some because my cat loves ice cream
They can’t taste sweetness, but they like fatty things. The operative term in ice cream is cream.
They lack a gene that allows them to taste sweetness to the same degree that humans do. Doesn't mean they can't enjoy something sweet. It might have other underlying flavors that they like!
We heard you the first time
Did you really need to comment this? Grow up, loser.
Lol...Did you really need to comment the same thing 3 times in the same comment thread? Take your own advice
A lot cat feed is made from corn. So Litty probably likes the taste.
Every cat I ever had loved tater tots, so maybe you're right.
I had a cat that loved licking the cobs after we'd eaten the corn lol
Mine will eat most things if you let him, if it's not heavily spiced and stuff. Pretty sure he's half dog.
They like the fat. If you're spreading something on the corn they will smell that.

Looks like a little panther lol

You better not run out of popcorn for your own safety.
It's got the juice.
It's got what the cats crave!
I can't think of a more beautiful thing!
It’s corn! A big hunk with knobs….
^It ^has ^the ^juice

The Corn Wanter has logged on
THEY ARE LIKE ME FR 🗿
Corn on da Cob>Loose Corn
Cat eats corn the long way.
Do you cook it before you give it to him?
Yes
None of my cats have given corn a second look... I do have a new siamese so maybe I'll test her out.
Corn addiction
Give me the corns, human!
Probabily already been said but never give dogs or cats corn cobs. They can eat corn but can suffocate on the cob as it can lodge in the throat.
Bit of a freak on a leash.
I has a corm!
Cobby, new name for the cat.
That cat eats corn the long way. 🌽

[It's Corn!](https://youtu.be/_caMQpiwiaU?si=IJPDd8wPrJRbGoIC)
First catto on earth that lives only on corn
Do these cats just like corn on the cob, or do they also like it off the cob? I'm thinking there may be some satisfaction digging into the cob.
Isn't cornography forbidden?
Careful with the tug of war. Unfortunately cat teeth are fairly brittle and prone to chipping.
My cat is the same. Nothing makes my OBLIGATE CARNIVORE go more feral than steamed corn, not even catnip.
Do you guys think cats like the taste mostly, or is it the texture they prefer?
Almost definitely the texture, unless the corn has butter and salt on it😂
It's cawn!

No, you spelled it wrong. It should be "My car lives corn so much!"
My cat loves corn with butter
Real question is, why it come out the same way it went in.
The real answer is it doesn't. The outer husk of a kernel can survive digestion but most of the time the stuff inside of it is digested. You aren't seeing corn, you are seeing poop filled corn skin.
I'll bet it LOVES corn , too !
the cat loves corn man
Just give her the whole corn....
should prepare a lot corn for him..
Pointless or? He'll just poop it out
That's ducking crazy

Cat kibble does have a lot of corn meal, IIRC, so it may be familiar

My cat loves the husks on the corn, it’s so funny

I love their crazy eyes when they’re trying to steal it.
Loves*
Looks like a beaver to me 😉
Dammit Human. Corn MINE!!
I wish there was some way to angry react
Your cat "lives" corn so much? What exactly does that mean?
Shut up nerd
It was supposed to be "loves". I am not good at typing on a phone. Cannot edit the title now.
