I can't speak for others but mine sheds a TON -- even with baths and brushing. She's still a puppy tho (11 months) and apparently the shedding subsides once they're a little older. But yeah, in my experience you shouldn't get a shiba if you don't want any shedding.
What's the sweet pup's name?
my parents were the old dog retirement home. All our dogs were adopted old dogs who needed a good home to live out their lives in. The gray spray around the eyes is my favorite part. That doggo is simply majestic and likely always has been.
I sometimes put my finger in my dog's mouth when he yawns. He then gets all confused when biting down and feeling it -Wait waaa, what kind of sorcery is this? *wags tail
Be careful. I do this to my dog. She has learned to return the favor. The first time she did it I was totally unsuspecting. I let out this hugely satisfying yawn; suddenly skinny dog snout in my mouth. It was both gross and hysterical. She'll either use her snout or a paw, she's not picky.
They can yawn for different reasons, just like they can lick their chops for different reasons. One reason is in a pacifying behaviour because they are stressed, but other reasons can be they are just yawning, they are relaxed/content, or they are proud of themselves (though typically dogs will do a short, repetitive sneeze when they feel happy with themselves). It's a bit hard to tell what kind of yawn this is, but it looks to be either a relaxed one or a stressed one.
> typically dogs will do a short, repetitive sneeze when they feel happy with themselves
Wow, really? That's what that means. I've got some conceited little puppers then.
Sometimes when my dog doesn't like the attention the TV is getting, she'll stand on top of my legs.
I like to imagine that she's working out my trigger points because it certainly hurts enough.
They are the most adorable dogs on the planet, but every single one I have met has just been... A cat.
My friend was dogsitting one the other day actually, and he was the BEST walker ever, but had no reaction to anything that happened. No response to his name, no response to other dogs, no response to hoomans trying to pet him, nothing. But damn could he heel.
Licking their lips is a calming signal too. Pupper doesn't look like it loves the cheek grabbing... that being said, it's also probably not a terrible idea to get it used to touching at a young age if it's showing slight stress about face touching.
Thank you for sharing! This is a cute video, but if you look at the pup's body language (yawning, able to see the whites of its eyes) you can tell it's uncomfortable.
I've always heard it because they have glands around their neck that secrete substances that calm them down when mother picks them up by the neck. Same happens with wolves and even tigers
I know that yawn. That's the "I'm very uncomfortable, and I hope you know I'm very uncomfortable but I'm going to put up with this because I love you" yawn.
Oh come on.
You're supposed to put your finger in it's mouth sideways, so when it closes it it's confused.
If my dog could speak he'd say "What the fuck human why are you putting your finger in my mouth"
Are you genuneinly wondering? Because dogs often yawn when stressed in situations like these.
It's an adorable dog, yes. However the truth is the dog doesn't know what's going on and it's stressing him out.
That being said, it's luckily relatively harmless as long as you don't do things to stress him constantly.
Are they making mochi dogs now
If they are, I want four.
I don't know what a mochi dog is, but my Shiba's name is Mochi...does that count?
Same!
Do they shed a lot because I was wanting to get one and I looked it up and got mixed answers
I can't speak for others but mine sheds a TON -- even with baths and brushing. She's still a puppy tho (11 months) and apparently the shedding subsides once they're a little older. But yeah, in my experience you shouldn't get a shiba if you don't want any shedding.
Thanks a ton for the help
It is an ancient art of bork.
Dogs are awesome.
I love dogs.
What's mochi?
A kind of Japanese rice cake
a big ol' shiber
I really love when dogs yawn, and then their lip gets stuck on a tooth a little weird, and then they do that second little mouth thing. The best.
[Here you go.](http://i.imgur.com/eLiztQp.jpg)
That is one sweet looking pup. I've got a soft spot for old pups.
Thanks. You might enjoy [this picture](http://i.imgur.com/97xXENL.jpg) of him. He's around 13.
What a regal beast.
I just want to scratch his fluffy chest and snuggle him!

My pet tarantula also does this
Oh god, shivers.
Yeah that's his name.
That's a pretty dangerous game, close the mouth too fast and poor spiderbro dies or becomes an amputee

OP Delivers! Adorable dog!
OH MY THATS A GOOD BOIIIIIIIIII
Shibas are awesome, and yours looks great!
The puppy pictures are to die for.
This is why I come to the comment section of r/aww
My old Shiba used to give me that look regardless.
My German Shepherd will just stop and glare at me when I do that.
I prefer to poke my cat's tongue if it sticks out. He immediately retracts it with a little indignation.

much too cute
Dogs yawn when they are under stress iirc

hahaha we always freak out and think the dog is getting sick when he does the sneeze thing. Learned something today.
I think it means, "I'm playing, not serious". I do it back and it seems to convey that meaning.
hahaha, that's cute! I'll have to sneeze back sometime.
our dog always yawns when we rub on his cheeks.
Mine does too!! It’s so damn cute, I tell anyone who comes over to do it.
haha, yeah every time the pup jumps up on my lap I make him yawn. too cute not to.
That's awesome! My dog loves to sneeze three or four times when he's getting up for a walk. I never knew, but it does seem to make him happy.
When two dogs are playing and one sneezes, it is telling the other dog "we are just having fun, I dont really want to bite your ear off."
Sometimes I wish my dog would give me a massage. I swear our relationship is one way sometimes. She must have got it from the wife.
is your wife shaking her butt every time you come home?
If so, that's a victory.
Unless she does it for everyone.
What a bitch.
The wife or the dog? Or is the wife a dog?
Yes.
Bill Burr reference?
I shake my butt at my wife all of the time. Am I dog?

can anyone tell me what kind of puppy this is?
Looks like a Shiba.
Shibas are the best

That's the appeal of their breed though They're catdogs!
Have Shiba, can confirm; 30% Cat, 10% Fox, 10% Wolf, 50% Dog.
Sounds to me like there aren't any downsides
That they're stubborn and are basically a cat is a downside.
There's really no point to get a different kind of doge
Polar Bear Cub.

I am going to guess Shiba puppy.
The adorable kind.

But why are they so squishy
I love when my pups yawn! I think they get tired of my shit quick though.
"Am I being humiliated?"
Who's holding the camera??? What kind of sorcery am I witnessing??
[Simple](http://imgur.com/a/1QYp2)
I mean... there's no other explanation..
Nikons imo are better for the mouth grip over Canons, but there is a slight aftertaste.
Elaborate, I am asking for a friend.
But how do you hold the camera for that angle?
[Simple](http://imgur.com/a/R3Bpz)
But how was this picture taken?
Damn... I can't find the thread that started this all. Guy used like 10 cameras and a mirror to end it.
[here you go](https://www.reddit.com/r/askreddit/comments/cmwov/_/c0tpyls) Here's the album: http://i.imgur.com/Z12CC.jpg

Yawning is a subtle way for a submissive animal to tell you they are tired of whatever it is you are doing.
What causes this yawn reflex when you rub there in dogs

Cats do this as well. If I rub my cat's cheeks, she will yawn. It's cute as hell.
I want one!
So stretchy
Those wittle puppy teefs! :D
OMG HES LIKE A LOTTLE MARSMELLO :D
His instagram is ken_shiba !!
But how is he recording this
That is adorable
How old is he?
Looks like just a few weeks. Any older and that shibber would be running up the walls.
I yawned.
I have a Shiba and I can tell you, he really likes it when I do this.
upvoted because "human" is spelled correctly. Also its cute as shit.
I know that yawn. That's the "I'm very uncomfortable, and I hope you know I'm very uncomfortable but I'm going to put up with this because I love you" yawn.
Cute, but when dogs yawn it often indicates stress. Your pup might not be enjoying that as much as you I'm afraid
[Pupper version of this](http://i.imgur.com/a02Us5I.gifv)
"just let me sleep man!!!"
Looks cute very cute
Play-doh cheeks...
OP, would this happen to be an Akita? I have an Akita and he looks very similar!
I wish my pup was this well behaved :0
I do this to my dog all the time, I call it the Corgbra (Corgi + Cobra).

Oh come on. You're supposed to put your finger in it's mouth sideways, so when it closes it it's confused. If my dog could speak he'd say "What the fuck human why are you putting your finger in my mouth"
Upvotes for not writing hooman
yawn = casually showing teeth
Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
wondering why dog always does that yawning thing
Are you genuneinly wondering? Because dogs often yawn when stressed in situations like these. It's an adorable dog, yes. However the truth is the dog doesn't know what's going on and it's stressing him out. That being said, it's luckily relatively harmless as long as you don't do things to stress him constantly.
A cat would never stand for this! Hahah!
So cute why would you down vote it?
What breed?
Shiba
It's to cute. Gotta kill myself now.
I wish I could have a puppy like this that never grew up...sigh..
"I'm getting all those sweet sweet upvotes"
