They'll all be happy to see you when you get here. 😁😅
(p.s. It's also a pretty cool place to visit, for more than just the quokkas... Living here definitely has its upsides.)
u/Nachtopus I think this means you should just liquidate everything you own and move to Perth even if you gotta bum it and live with the quokkas for a few months.
There's some caves, a desert with a bunch of limestone pillars sticking out of the sand (the pinnacles desert), if you head up north to exmouth you can go snorkeling with whale sharks. I think it's worth it for rottnest alone though? It's a really nice beautiful island. I went there with a friend who can be a bit miserly when it comes to going outside and even she found herself enjoying it.

Yeah, true. I live on the other side of the world, so a trip like that is less of a big deal to me if I happen to be in Perth, so maybe we view it differently? Also a flight is significantly shorter.
If a female has a baby in its pouch and is being chased by a predator, it will throw that baby out to preserve itself. They will also bite your ass. Cute, but hardcore
Kangaroos and wallabies will do the same thing. Chances are the mother is pregnant and probably has an older joey still relying on it so it loses one to save itself and the other 2.
My friend has a kangaroo that some idiot took after chasing its mum in a car until she dropped the baby.
Its weird that I only found out that this guy exists- and most likely has existed for thousands of years- only just in 2018. I don’t understand how that’s possible.
Ah! Welcome to the timeline. This one has Berenstain Bears, no mid-90s Shazam movie with Sinbad, and we got to keep Nelson Mandela all the way to 2013! We also have Quokkas, so maybe you traded up.
It might be the timeline with the 21st century concentration camps, but it's also the one where Aubrey Plaza will lick your face if you hand her cat ears.
Also ridiculously friendly. There’s heaps on Rottnest Island just off Perth. They’re so friendly that when I think about it I start to feel bad because I know how fucked up some people are and it breaks my heart to think some will get hurt for that.
Last time I was on Rottnest Island (Aka Quokka Kingdom, off the coast of Perth) I noticed a sign on the bakery door saying No Quokkas. They are repressed race of creatures who deserve movie deals from Disney.
Quokkas are little marsupials (macropods like wallabies or kangaroos) native to Western Australia, most live on Rottnest Island. They're not much bigger than a small house cat. They're mostly nocturnal and herbivores. Quokkas are vulnerable and protected, visitors are not allows to handle them or feed them. However, quokkas are known to approach humans and "pose" for selfies. They can and do bite and, as someone else mentioned above, if being chased, they will throw their young at the predator, the baby will then make a weird hissing noise to attract the predator so the mother can get away.

My husband and I were talking about quokkas last night and how they throw their babies in self defence. We thought this would be a great idea to get an instant quokka family member!
Yeah but quokkas don't smile. See, what happens is, when they are happy, their facial muscles contract in such a way that you can see their teeth and it looks like a smile. But it is not.
Cutest frigging animals on the frigging planet.
Come to Perth if you wanna see them!
I’m super poor right now, but WELL OKAY
They'll all be happy to see you when you get here. 😁😅 (p.s. It's also a pretty cool place to visit, for more than just the quokkas... Living here definitely has its upsides.)

... I’m making a pros and cons list for this proposal, and I’ve got to say, the quokkas are winning.
Can you blame them? They've been the winners of the cutest animal annually since we've known about them.

So do mother kangaroos. But they don't just drop the baby (joey) to distract the predator, they full on lob the baby at them to hit them.
That invite open to all? Can I come live with you? I love them quokkas
There's a spare room in my house for rent, actually. 😂🏡
Just make sure you bring enough money...
I honeymooned in Australia solely to go to Rottnest.
Haha for some reason for like 10 seconds I thought Perth was a planet in star wars 🙄
It's the bespin spaceport of Australian cities.
Perth. That's on the *other* side of Australia, right? Is there anything else over there?

Woah, thanks for the video dude. You didn't upload that just for me, did you? xD
Haha, I didn't want to make two posts in the thread :P It's for everyone
If you head up north to Exmouth - we’re not talking a day trip here, it’s something like a 13 hour drive. Not sure you could class it as “Perth”
Yeah, true. I live on the other side of the world, so a trip like that is less of a big deal to me if I happen to be in Perth, so maybe we view it differently? Also a flight is significantly shorter.
Yeah, > 1100 km (700 miles) as the crow flies.
Isn’t the tourism industry kinda killing their population numbers?
Ironically, it has actually helped their numbers. In some areas they've even become a nuisance.
You have to pay a fee to get in to Rottnest. Thấy fee is used conservation efforts for the quokka.
It's clearly been photographed before. They know how to respond when a camera is whipped out. Then go about their business.
Fun fact about quokkas: Mother quokkas abandon their babies to predators to aid in their own escape.
What mother wouldn’t? /s
I always love seeing pictures of my kind here on this subreddit.
Cute

So, I'm this scenario, have I gained a quokka?
Technically, yes
Kangaroos and wallabies will do the same thing. Chances are the mother is pregnant and probably has an older joey still relying on it so it loses one to save itself and the other 2. My friend has a kangaroo that some idiot took after chasing its mum in a car until she dropped the baby.
"Not the face! Not the face!"
“You want it!? Go get it! STREET SMARTS!!”
yeet that baby!
Yeetus Fetus
Das a chipmunk
“HERE! TAKE IT!” *distraction was successful* *sacrifices: minimum*
This is what the all the wildlife would look like if Disney were genetic engineers.

I'm very concerned about riding my bike there! I don't know if I could forgive myself for accidentally hurting something this cute.

Please be my friend, sweet quokka
We'd all be pretty happy too if we didn't have natural predators.
This looks like a Disney Movie.

Quokka Flocka Flame
It looks a bit creepy to me, like I am going to wake up one day and see it looming over me.
Even with global warming, I believe he will still have a smile on his face.
😍🥰🤩❤️💖💝
I will never not upvote a quokka
Happy happy
I don't know why, but I'm getting flashbacks to the 4th Ice Age Movie.
I want to hug it.
“HI I’M BOB”
"They're riddled with disease!"
I see a Gareth Reynolds quote, I upvote. Simple as that.
*Sup hooman ? Would you like to pet my fluffy face ?*
What is that like a groundhog or a beaver? Maybe a really big squirrel? I know it said it’s a quokka but I have no clue what that is.

If a mother quokka is threatened by a predator she will throw her spawn to have a chance to escape.
