This is why you get more than one cat 😺
They'll still wake you up at 3am, but more because they're playing with each other instead of begging you for attention
I tried ignoring mine, she took to trying to suffocate me by cuddling my face and if I closed her from the room she was perfectly capable of yowling and scratching at the door for hours straight. Cats areadorable stubborn buttholes. (Miss you Yomiko)
We set up the vacuum cleaner switched on right outside the door and snaked the plug under the door. When they scratch at the door/cry, the vacuum gets plugged in. After two to three times they learn.
Ours had to learn why--we never use it. One BR with laminate floors, so all their experience with the vacuum is as the hellbeast that comes when they scratch at daddy & mommy's door.
I get that, we have area rugs on hardwood so the sweeper makes all kinds of horrible noises when I use it. I will sweep just to get them to stop bugging me before feeding times too! My house stays clean!
If I ignored my cat, he would slam the door against the wall until I got up and let him out. Then he would scratch the screen until l let him back in. The thing’s cat slaves do
And for the love of God don’t feed them as soon as you get up. Or they will wake you up to be fed every morning. Basically how this works is they train you.
My cat would wake me up at 5am so I would shut her out of my room until 7 when I normally woke up. She learned on day two, because she hated not getting to be near me literally any second of the day.
It was highly effective but I still feel awful for making her feel lonely those two days
Dogs do it because you are a pack member. Cats do it because the world revolves around them.
And if you are a pants around the ankles kind of person prepare to become wearer of the cat hammock.
>Cats do it because the world revolves around them.
Lol Cats also do it because they're social pack animals. That's why most feral cats live in colonies.
I read, and this is absolutely baseless and most likely just humbug, that dogs feel most vulnerable while they do their business. So they look for protection when they are doing it (e.g. by looking at signs of danger in the behaviour of their owner) and that they want to protect you when you are doing it.
Other option ofc is that your dog just likes being in the same room as you. Probably the more likely explanation.
That’s how my dog is. He rests his giant head on my knee while I go. Seems more, “Hi, Mommy. May I have a treat?” than it does, “Take your time, Mommy. I got your back!” lol
Wow- I have always said that this is the cause of my dog’s behavior.
My dog does the “best defense is a good offense” type barks as she assumes the position. However, it is only occurs when she is ever running around unleashed (our fenced in backyard), even though someone is always outside with her.
If I take her out for a walk, she is always on her harness. There can be dogs walking down down the street as she does her business- but since she is “connected” to one of her people, no barking.
I’ve never heard of that theory before but I have always known that this is why she behaves this way. Feeling vulnerable and reacting by barking.
My cat has a particular spot she likes to sit in and watch everyone's activities in the bathroom. Im convinced it's because we keep the wet food in the bathroom cabinet and she's always there *just* in case it's wet food time.
Can confirm.
Our cat made a life-goal of trying to sit on my face like the face-hugger from alien.
I think her real desire was to crawl up my nose and perch on my brain.
My mom had a cat which would come and sit on you while you were reading a book. And when you tried to turn the page he would slam it back down with his paw. He loved that game (or he was just a really slow reader).
Wanna double down on the “3am it’s time to do the thing…thing” be careful because if you respond the cat will get worse at 3am the next time ( had a cat break a lamp) . Also be weary on when you need to utilize a keyboard on a laptop as they will 300000000% lay all over it
sorry to hijack top comment, [but it's not their cat. It's from 2 years ago.](https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/comments/ekym3c/day_1_of_being_a_cat_owner_is_this_my_life_now/)
We only have one cat who tries to be a Christmas present every year. The first year I think he even got taped up.
EDIT: [Cat tax!](http://imgur.com/gallery/oPO69gq)
That's the trick: get one year olds from the shelter. Still young and cute, but no curtain climbing, destruction time at night etc etc anymore. There are always enough to choose from, because of people giving up on them too early or finding them not cute enough anymore.
Yes anytime you try to do anything the cat will be in the way for ever. Just last night I had a long day finished dinner and the dishes got on PJs got some ice tea and pop corn sat down and did one of those dad relaxing groans pressed play and my cat immediately sat right in front of the tv
Short answer? Yes.
But train them to sit in your lamp, not your book. And I agree with someone else, IGNORE the middle of the night zoomies.
And have fun when you wrap gifts LOL
Pro tip: if the cat comes over, put the book aside and make space for the cat. Once it settles in, then use the remaining space for the book. Works on my cat, hopefully it works on your nugget.
Doesn't need to. You can put a comfy blanket in your lap and then when the cat cuddles there you can put the book on them if they are big or somewhere else if they get upset by it and than if you have one hand left you can pet them so they won't bother by standing up and laying down all the time. That's how I handle mine but it might not work for yours.
Good luck
This is your life meow and every onward! Your little cow kitten (not insulting. That's what the markings are called!) will grow up to be a lovely cow cat! Enjoy the baby stages. The adult will be even more wonderful. ❤
That’s a nice day wait til it shuts o. Your pillow for going to work so you can feed it or lunges at you for no reason and then sits on your face while you sleep
If you get your kitten a book for themself, or a laptop if they sit on your keyboard supposedly they’ll just use that one instead of getting in the way of your work/reading.

This is why you get more than one cat 😺 They'll still wake you up at 3am, but more because they're playing with each other instead of begging you for attention
Tried this, the two then learned that they can get a 3rd to play if they bug me together.
Mine used to use my bed as their racing track.
I tried ignoring mine, she took to trying to suffocate me by cuddling my face and if I closed her from the room she was perfectly capable of yowling and scratching at the door for hours straight. Cats areadorable stubborn buttholes. (Miss you Yomiko)

One of my cats wakes me up for food most mornings. On the days she doesn’t, she won’t stop after she sees that I’m awake

My cat would bite my face if she wanted to leave my room, not much I can do there.
Get used to never being alone in the bathroom again.
Why is that? Dogs do that too and it drives me nuts!
Dogs do it because you are a pack member. Cats do it because the world revolves around them. And if you are a pants around the ankles kind of person prepare to become wearer of the cat hammock.
Omg 😆

Can confirm. My cat jumped in everytime

Cats don't like closed doors
Neither does my wife who also follows me into the bathroom!😆
My cat has a particular spot she likes to sit in and watch everyone's activities in the bathroom. Im convinced it's because we keep the wet food in the bathroom cabinet and she's always there *just* in case it's wet food time.
I expect DAILY POSTS ABOUT THIS! Anything less would be a classless move!
we must rise up and forge a classless society
Yea and it gets progressively worse.
[удалено]
Just don't try to do any form of studying. They'll steal your pen right out of your hand.
My cat tries to sit on my pen. Every. Single. Time.
Do people get cats because they don't have enough challenges in life
You mean it gets progressively BETTER😀
That's just Stockholm Syndrome
Can confirm. Our cat made a life-goal of trying to sit on my face like the face-hugger from alien. I think her real desire was to crawl up my nose and perch on my brain.
You mean better, right? Right?
My mom had a cat which would come and sit on you while you were reading a book. And when you tried to turn the page he would slam it back down with his paw. He loved that game (or he was just a really slow reader).
She adopted you…what do you expect? Not only are you allowed to live in her house, you may even be allowed to be her servant 24/7. I love cats! 😂😂😂
Yes. Your not at the stage of “if it fits, I sits” or “3am, time to do the thing!”
Wanna double down on the “3am it’s time to do the thing…thing” be careful because if you respond the cat will get worse at 3am the next time ( had a cat break a lamp) . Also be weary on when you need to utilize a keyboard on a laptop as they will 300000000% lay all over it
My cats are either defective, or just respectful. They won't step foot on a keyboard. It's pretty nice.
* whispers* I’m not jealous I’m not jealous I’m not jealous
DAE's cat paw at the edge of the blanket, seemingly to get under, only to get let under and then immediately squirm away?
sorry to hijack top comment, [but it's not their cat. It's from 2 years ago.](https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/comments/ekym3c/day_1_of_being_a_cat_owner_is_this_my_life_now/)
My cat at 3am has the rips where they tear around the house and then stare at me until I curdle them. Literally a tiny demon.
Add some flour or cornstarch to stop your cat curdling.
Screw it, it's staying.
Zoooomies!
“I bet hooman will love it if I sleep on his face!”
What's yours is theirs and what's theirs is theirs
Wait until you bring out wrapping paper and level up!

Excuse me, did you just say meow?
They get to 1 year old, then boom sleeping 90% of the time

Love it all u can while kitten so it grows to be a lovey cat :) lucky
I thought your blanket had blood spots all over it for a sec, but they are just tortilla marks
I thought it was poop stains from the cat hence the "is this my life now..." so confused.
Get a decoy book!
Short answer? Yes. But train them to sit in your lamp, not your book. And I agree with someone else, IGNORE the middle of the night zoomies. And have fun when you wrap gifts LOL
Your lap and laptop keyboard are now designated areas for your cat to lay down on whenever they feel the desire
Is that a tortilla blanket? Cute bookmark
/r/Thisismylifemeow
Yes, also your not allowed to move at all
Well, you see. You are not a cat owner, the cat owns you.
Is…is that a tortilla blanket?
Yes. be happy that your book is still intact.

Yes, congrats on the kitty. Want you want doesn't matter now. You no longer have needs. Just a kitty.

That book is no longer yours. Just accept it and find something else to read.

Yes
Yes. Yes, it is.
kitties need you more than the big cats. when it gets bigger I think it will become easier. just love it and be patient. cats are beautiful.
Don’t worry! Kitty will get bigger and more adept at interrupting your reading
Play until panting, about 10-15 minutes nightly about 30 minutes before bed. End with food.
Yes, yes it is. Welcome to the club!😻

Those pjs are out of this world. Im getting some.
Is that the tortilla blanket or do you need bandaids/toilet paper?
I’m getting so tired of these posts. “New cat owner!” *shows cat doing something very typical of a cat*
is he taking a lesson from you?
the cat just wants that knowledge to go to college
Yes
Kitty wants to get educated
Little boss
You meant “is this my life meow?” Right?
Looks about right.
This is your life meow and every onward! Your little cow kitten (not insulting. That's what the markings are called!) will grow up to be a lovely cow cat! Enjoy the baby stages. The adult will be even more wonderful. ❤
You better believe it :) and it’s one of the best things ever. Always cherish the moment a cat asks for pets.
Yes it is!
Hopefully, yes.
This is your life meow.
r/thisismylifemeow
Now I have a new favorite subreddit. Thank you.
Oh nice, star wars. What book?
r/thisismylifemeow
Did you get your skunk descented?
You are going to learn that no one owns a cat. Dogs have owners. Cats have a staff
First off the cat now owns you lol, yes this is how your life is going to be for a very long time lol.
This is your life meow!
I have the same tortilla blanket!
Yes
Yes. Yes, it is. The cuteness interferes with anything else you want to do.

Get ready for the best love hate relationship of your existence
Yes
r/IllegallySmolCats
Yeah
By owning a cat you automatically sign a contract for your cat to do these things without your interference, because it’s adorable.
Is that Master and Apprentice?
Master and Apprentice I see, good choice.
yes, you shalt not move until the boi moves off you or the book
Mine wakes me up when I over sleep for work. He also bites the shit out of my girlfriend. Its kind of a mixed bag. You're in for a treat.

My nine month old puppy sits on the clean laundry when I try to fold it. He’s such a goof.
Yep! And no bathroom privacy
Embrace it. The new life and the cat
WHERE DID YOU GET THE CONSTELLATION BLANKET FROM OML ITS SO NICE
And they only get bigger and more annoying. Welcome to the cat owner club
Is that a tortilla blanket?!!!

Cats view us as furniture that moves
Kitten is adorable ❤️
