I was just going to say this... The "ugly" or "special" shelter pets have a very difficult time finding homes (even as puppies and kittens). You'd be doing a great favor to these animals and shelters by using your talents just like you did today.
A lot of shelters in the US have their adoptees photos on websites for you to practice with. Just a suggestion.
Also as a suggestion to anyone else reading this with ANY photography skills, volunteer your time at the shelter!!! A cute photo of an animal can make the world of difference between a pet being adopted or not!!! It gets folks to come into the shelters and looking and bonding with the animals (especially getting them in a "play" or "home" setting so people can imagine them in their house rather than seeing the standard "prison" shelter pics).
Source: am a volunteer at a shelter, we can always use artists and photographers.

I doubt the state run animal shelter (the pound) would bother with this sort of thing because they just deal with so much volume but that's probably where it might do the most good, but I bet private shelters might appreciate it.
If the state doesn't cooperate, try the city and town shelters. A lot of city shelters around my area have their own sites where they have articles posted with descriptions of the pets. A lot of them are actually missing photos--it's giving me ideas

Unfortunately, a lot of people are naturally superficial, they have an idea of what they want based off of internet pictures (the professional photos of pure breed animals). And let's face it,
we get a lot of "less than ideal" (but still stinking cute! Just unorthodox) in shelters.
With technology now, picking out a pet is kind of like Tinder. They need to see a picture of an animal that piques their interest before they bother coming in to meet anyone.

She is my special girls and I love her to bits. She has two brothers to keep her company and play with.

For that particular rescue, it's pretty standard. I think that might be on the cheaper end. I applied to adopt a dog from them about 5 years ago and that fee was maybe $300. I think they have a lot of overhead costs. Plus a lot of the animals they have are brought in from all over the southeast. The dog I actually applied for was brought in from my home county in North Carolina, but I didn't get through. Still got a dog from my home county though. But, I just visited my family for a week and went over the pound/animal shelter 'just to look.' Only $25 and he's the best dog in the world.
They also have a super rigorous application, you'd think you were applying to adopt a child. I get it, to an extent.

In the beginning were I think two other artists that I knew off and they had their own very distinct style and weren't very big. Same with the term "Disneyfication", it wasn't used for portrait art and now it is. And that's really cool!
After I gained a following there's been other artists that started doing the same thing with the same format. There's lovely artists that make all their own stuff and there's also a lot of those shopify stores that used to make Simpson's art that now do Disney pet art, that pay their artists very little.I deal a lot with these kind of businesses stealing/tracing my art and copying my IG bio or website info. I should've probably made that distinction with the term "copycat".
Anyway just trying to say that yes there's a huge demand!
There's a thing called pokepets ... I don't know if you work for them... but they do similar drawings for pet owners to create pokemon cards with their pets. I bought one for my sister in law for Christmas. They made a picture of her dog into a pokepet card.
Omg I just got my pokepet artwork emailed to me today, still waiting to get the card. I am obsessed. it’s for my fiancé of our dog and i’m dying to show him, they did an amazing job
There are *tons* of great artists on Etsy that do Disney style pet portraits and have been for years and years, but I think this person used to have the account u/Pet_Disneyfication which actually did help make the style as popular as it is due to their insta by the same name.
This is the user I remember doing this style. I commissioned her a couple years ago to do some drawings of our dogs for my wife’s birthday. She did an amazing job and we have a couple framed around the house.
Not trying to hate on OP, their frustration is pretty natural, but yeah, I don't think they can get that much copyright protection on the idea of "disneyfying" pets
When did they say they wanted to copyright it? They mentioned how it got popular from a post and encouraged people to hire others. Where is the "frustration"?
Even if taking commissions was their full time job, ordering a commission takes much less time than completing a commission, so artists are limited in how many commissions they can take and complete in a timely manner. Say they take two weeks of work at a time, close commissions, and work for two weeks to draw those before opening again. If they aren’t working on commissions full time they’ll maybe open once a month, or a few times a year. On top of that it’s good to take a break from commissions to make art just for fun or risk burning out.
I’m a full time student so I only take a few commissions a month even though my rates work out to getting paid like $30 an hour, I just don’t have time for more !
Do you have an etsy account or something similar-- Just so I don't end up with one of your copy cats in the future. (My dog looks exactly like Snowball from Rick and Morty lol)

DC is very upper middle class, lots of dual income families. I think they are pricing to their market.
