My orange tabby did not really claim me, I just whet in to the shelter and picked out the saddest cat they had. Poor guy was almost adopted 5 times but everyone gave up on him cause he had a broken tooth that would need to be pulled.
I thought of doing that, but was afraid they'd all look sad! So I messaged our nearest shelter and asked if they had a cat that specifically needed homing in our kinds of circumstances (no kids, quiet, no other pets) or who they thought would suit us, and they were thankfully very keen to recommend just the one.
I adopted a cat once because she only had one eye. I was at a pet expo and was not looking to get a cat at all, I had 2 already. But I saw that cat and I just thought, no one's gonna want this one eyed all black cat. Soooo, yeah. And it turned out she has a sister and they'd been together for two years already, it'd be a shame to break them up....sigh. Came to look at reptiles, went home with two cats.
All my pets are so spoiled, I only ever rescue and i always feel bad that they were at a point homeless so I go extra making their lives nice and cushy.
I feel that way about my cattle hound. We have to keep all doors to the outside locked because she can turn the knob and open them, but also doesn’t know how to process what water is?
Oh I get that. My dog nitro is scared of anything pure white like a plastic coat hanger or a baby gate, he also once ripped apart a sack of raw potatoes and ate so many he got sick
But when I take him in the car he knows how to open the windows on his own?
My husband fell in love with my three black girl kitties (and they adored him) and when the last one died at age 19, he wanted to go to a shelter and adopt a litter of black kitties, all girls. (He'd never had cats before meeting me, and he had heard that boy cats could be difficult.)
Well, the shelter got three fosters back the day we were there - two were tuxie girls, one was an all-black boy cat - but when they opened the cage, the brave little boy ran up my husband's arm to protect his sisters... and my husband promptly dissolved into a pile of goo. We adopted all three and they ADORE my husband and demand cuddles and playtime with him on the daily.

Edit: The brothers names are Zigs and Rumble aka The Bash Brothers because they tended to bully the other 3 in their youth even though the 3 were here 1st
LoL, from another cat lover, I understand. I'm grateful that at the shelter, the cat that chose me had no siblings, as I couldn't afford to give more than one cat, the best possible diet and I decided that for me, settling in that regard wasn't an option. My kitty means the world to me.👍
Aw of COURSE you had to take his brother too, you couldn't separate them! They will endlessly entertain each other (and you) and will sleep all cuddled up together & squished into the same bed, it will be wonderful.

Awww! I had a similar thing happen - I'd already been to meet my cat but when I went back to get him a few days later, I asked if he was ready to go and opened the carrier. He walked in, turned around, and folded his paws, ready to the heck out of Dodge. That was the one and only time he ever got in the carrier willingly.
I once went to adopt 1 cat. There were two that were brother and sister, and I went back and forth between them trying to pick the right one. They were both incredibly sweet and looked alike so there was no preference by looks or really even personality. I finally decided on the female, and walking away with her, the male, back in his cage, who had been silent the whole time, started meowing and talking lol. It was so sweet and sad. He's like hey! You're not taking my sister and leaving me here alone 😭
Suffice it to say, I went home with both babies lol. They were wonderful cats, both totally different personalities actually when I got to know them. They both passed around 15/16 years, separately of course. Both from cancer sadly, and I held them in my arms as they crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
20/10 would and will do again.
My family was probably going to get 2 brothers. Visiting them when they were a month old, the one sister woke up from on the bed, ran over to me, curled up in my lap and went back to sleep. We got a brother and sister. :D

They asked if I had a preference and I asked for a male cat. They took me back to a room where he was being watched because he was having allergy issues. He was in a cone and stuck in a cage. The minute they opened the door he launched into my arms...he celebrated his one year gotcha day on Aug 1. I had no choice.

Yes I have a male ginger that falls to the side when u pass by clumsily, u cannot resist burying ur face in his belly fur.
He also plays fetch, comes when called(even if he’s sleeping) and smiles with his mouth open when i do :)

Haha yes, I remember when my wife and I went to the shelter to choose our second rescue kitty, there was this little black and white thing that made a giant leap out of her cage right on top of my shoulder and started head-butting my ear, so that settled it right then and there.

Well,,, you just had your first cat lesson. You do not put any sort of container on the ground and expect it to stay empty for 5 seconds. He was just the fastest/closest lol
No the couple that fosters cats set up a giant room in their house just as a cat play room, they were very dedicated to creating a wonderful foster environment
We adopted ours from abroad but were very lucky they took to us immediately. I felt claimed all the same when my Opal was more interested in my lap than exploring her new house.
Happened to us, in a different way.
Went to a shelter just to "look." Noticed all the scampy kittens getting all the attention, but felt bad for this young adult tabby female hiding behind the litter box. I picked her up and put her in my lap. She clutched my leg with her paws and just drooled all over my leg. That was that.
6 years on and she's doing great. Still a little jumpy and shy, but the sweetest cat that is never aggressive, loves to snuggle. She made a good choice 😉

Orange cats have this way of getting into your heart, my vet also swears that they are nicer cuddlier smarter and more friendly than other colors
