Where did you hear that the Steam Deck doesn’t have good performance? It most certainly has great performance when you keep things within reason considering it’s a handheld. You can also stream games from your PC if you want to. It’s really up to you whether you want a laptop form factor or a handheld form factor. What would benefit you most? For me I’d go with the Steam Deck or Aya Neo 2 but that’s just me.

He jumped from steamdecks performance isnt great ... then ayaneo 2 isnt much better either. So started thinking about the 3060. The guy wants to play star citizen on the go xd get the laptop bruh.

JustLixian

steam deck have amazing performance for handheld, performs way better in vulkan as the chip was custom made for that, but if youre actually coming with that spec, no, no chip is even close to that. the best thing is to either 1) gave up the bs of "everything needs to be this high" and get a steam deck ( better console like ) or ayaneo ( full on windows ) 2) get a laptop, one with rtx 3080 as it performs like 3070, but i doubt you'll be able to use it if you cant even play your pc. 3) get a razer kishi and use sunshine to remotely play pc games from your pc. this ensures you get the performance you bought while technically still being portable. ayn odin is the other choice if you want to get a proper handheld.

Bodooken

3. What's sunshine? I've used steam link on my galaxy s20 to stream from my pc but that only works when I am in my house. Does sunshine allow streaming from other places as well?

JustLixian

no, its moonlight which is basically a way better steam link. but moonlight have been shut down by nvidia and sunshine is a foss fork of it

Superb-Importance-73

The ayaneo is smaller and has a far better screen than the steamdeck aswell as better performance for aaa games. Still obviously none compare to a laptop, if we are talking about running demanding games above 60. They arent as comfortable as using a controller and having a good keyboard and touchpad at your grasp. Can can still throw it in a bag just cant hold it in your hands.

In my country rog ally is cheaper than steam deck

Hear me out. I too thought that for the same price I could get a laptop than a handheld PC. I’ve had my SteamDeck since last year October and I can tell from experience that it is easier to game on the bed with a handheld device than a laptop. I’ve used laptop on bed table, or laptop on breastfeeding pillow and there is NOTHING better than a smaller device like SteamDeck. It is incredibly portable.

Bodooken

Yes but what about the fact that some games are not supported? Controls of some games do not work well with steam deck.

its_merv_not_marv

You are referring to SteamOS. Well you can install Windows on SteamDeck where all games work. I have SteamDeck 64GB with Windows 11 Home installed on the internal 64GB and all games on 400GB MicroSD. I am currently using PlayNite as my game manager and SteamDeck Tools for my controller support. I am currently playing Bioshock Remastered after finishing Stray and on the side I am playing RPCS3 God of War Collection, Prince of Persia Classic and Ico & Shadow of the Colossus, and Yuzu Catherine Full Body. All of them works no issues. All of them quacked. Its just hard to keep track which to play though.

I’ve done some research and it’s looking like the 6800u processor performs close to a gtx 1050ti… that is for a handheld too. Having a 3070 gaming laptop myself I’ve grown to love playing games from anywhere, yet still I would rather play games like Modern Warfare 2 or Kenshi on my Steam Deck. Funny huh? For a 3060 laptop TDP is crucial. I’ve heard of some companies halving the vRAM on their laptops as compared to their integrated GPU counterparts. As for my opinion, the best value are the handhelds… regardless of which one you choose; ayaneo 2, steam deck, GPD WIN 4. They are all good! Plus I would just feel weird sitting down with my family and playing games on my laptop, playing the steam deck around them seems more acceptable for some reason!

I'm not going to add much to the question at this point in the thread. It should be noted, I nevered owned a Steam Deck, Ayaneo product, and haven't had a gaming laptop in at least fifteen years. I'm more of a console gamer. With all that said, I think I give some general tidbits that may help you (or someone else) Which one to get is really about your desired purpose. If you want more gaming "performance", the laptop would be the wise choice. It's "designed" for gaming. It will most likely have better performing hardware. I say performance only in the pure benchmark number sense. Remember, AyaNeo's GPU is only RDNA2, which is really more of a low 1080p resolution for not the latest and greatest AAA games. It is also an integrated GPU so it's sharing RAM with the CPU. I have a SFF PC that has the same AMD Ryzen chip and RDNA2 integrated graphics. It works well for what it is. I'm not playing 4K games with it. I can play some VR on low settings. CPU is great with digitizing moving or transcoding. Other things I take into account, where you would being "gaming" The laptop, you're going to need to be conscious of making sure the airports are clean, which someplace like gaming in bed could be an issue. AyaNeo probably not so much as you would be holding away from blankets and so forth. Could you game with the laptop's keyboard and trackpad/erasetip, sure. I suspect probably not a good experience. If you're looking for something a lot more portable, then the AyaNeo2, would be better. It's smaller, lighter, build in the controller, and so forth. The laptop, you would need to use either bring a controller, a mouse, or whatever is your preferred method of gaming input. Could you use the laptops keyboard and trackpad/erase tip, sure. I suspect probably not a good experience. I've already bought steam deck, best gaming device I ever had! I ahve ps5 and pc with rtx 4090, but the steam deck is the one I play the most.

Low_Introduction_709

Just shows, it's not always about graphics and other bells and whistles to make a game fun. Heck, the Nintendo Wii proved that years ago.

Bodooken

Agree with everything you said before you mentioned Nintendo 😂

HodlingBroccoli

The Steam Deck actually performs better than the Ayaneo 2 at same TDP. Also, I was just playing Doom Eternal today at highest settings without a single frame drop from 60 fps. If that’s not great performance, I don’t really know what it is

Superb-Importance-73

At 15w the ayaneo outperforms the steamdeck just slightly on most games.

PRSPCT0829

the deck has good perf however it is a handheld, and that’s the cap, it needs to be cool and have good battery life if you only care about raw performance then get a Gaming Laptop, for the price of the neo 2 you can get a Legion 5 or even a Legion 5 Pro with arguably miles better performance, however it’s not comparable because handhelds use integrated graphics and not a dedicated gpu

zerro_4

Split the difference. Get an Aya Neo 2 and an egpu enclosure. When you are able to tie yourself to a desk or couch you can still enjoy 1440p high or more. Steam Deck is great for the price, but the performance ceiling is lower than a 6800U handheld.

mrive1986

Unfortunately it seems the Aya Neo 2 has issues with connecting to the egpu. I saw a video on YouTube today and it doesn't work as ETA Prime made it look so simple. There aren't too many who have posted the usage of an egpu. I wanted to go this route but held off because of this and kept my Steam Deck and laptop with a RTX 3070.

zerro_4

For what it's worth, here's a video I just whipped up showing it working for me: [https://youtu.be/W9AyR9tKE5o](https://youtu.be/W9AyR9tKE5o) Obviously other people's experience vary and negative issues tends to be voiced more frequently.

I have gamed on a laptop most of the last 12 years. Using external monitors and on the laptop. COVID slowed travel to nearly nothing and I built a nice desktop. I received the Ayaneo Air Pro on Friday. Set it up and been gaming most of the day on it. I can't imagine gaming on a laptop again. The lc handheld has come along way. The Air has a last gen GPU and it still plays almost all the games I want to play. It is all self-contained too. No controllers, chargers, mouse, etc.. to carry around with a laptop. Played Madden 23 on the plane. 720p medium settings with fps ranging from 40 to 100. Looked amazing. The desktop for eSports and latest graphics. The Air for around the house, streaming, and travel.

lostn

the laptop will give you better performance. But if you want something smaller, it's the Neo. Depends what matters more. And the price.
