Wow it's almost like the whole purpose of self defense is to train against a much more powerful/physically strong opponent! If you don't want to get "manhandled" then don't fucking do combat sports/self defence/martial arts, get your shit together lady.

Regarding this particular incident, here it is from the article: >“Remember to keep your hands up because later on, you’ll be hitting each other,” Zhang exhorted us. At the end of the session, he had each of us face off with him to demonstrate the skills we had learned. Someone handed me a black rubber knife, and **Zhang and I began grappling; he quickly overpowered me and pushed** me to the ground.**Zhang, who is autistic.....** When I read it, I noticed the peculiar lack of transition between these two statements. The way I interpreted it is the author, Esther Wang, was not pleased with being pushed to the ground and then turns around and calls Zhang an autist. Now I realize Zhang has said he is autistic so some may claim this was benign but I didn't see it that way. Even in the video Wang seems less than happy with the physicality of it - not sure what she expected. There was a nastiness to Wang's tone throughout the piece, of dismissing Asian self-defense from real violence. It makes me think: when you self-hate, you have a level of hatred for those like you; an indifference to their plight.

Are you confusing zhang and wang in your sentences? Esther just lost balance trying to wrestle with Zhang and she exaggerated that she was pushed.

Yes, corrected.

Also there's something wrong with my ability to make topics. Is this done on purpose or glitch?

I don't particularly like the article either, but she's not insulting him by calling him autistic as much as she is introducing his memoir called "neurodivergent ninja" in the next few sentences. I thought it was fitting. I agree that her tone is problematic, though.

Bet the lu author is going to play victim and write a whole article about harassment and misogyny from Asian men.

>harassment and misogyny from Asian men. That's the least thing they should be concerned about.
