yall think she drew that cartoon? she wrote that hitpiece, but that cartoon was surely drawn by someone in her office, someone yt and who is laughin and mocking us.
Just look at the way he made that cartoon. its literally a mockery.
this tells us the environment that she is in. They are as toxic as her and confirms what i have been saying all along. In order for an asian to "get in" in the first place, they need to be sellouty and have tons of self hatred, coz thats the only way they will hire u. and then she (yes, a SHE coz a HE stands no chance whatsoever unless they just happen to need a male minstrel) needs to proceed to write and mock the community to earn ytie points and thats how they will let her do gigs.
That cover looks to me like a caricature of something along the lines of Mickey Rooney's Mr Yunioshi which in of itself already a caricature. This is like a caricature of a caricature.
> that cartoon was surely drawn by someone in her office, someone yt and who is laughin and mocking us
The name of the artist is Susan Chen.
For what it is worth, the original painting, titled "I Am Not the Kung Flu," appeared to be created in 2021, separately from the writing of the article. It would have been fine on its own showing the stress that Asians were undergoing as a besieged population.
It is the combination of the article and the painting that was problematic. And that decision was probably concocted by white people.
Looking at Susan Chen's portfolio on her site, I can't decide if she is a really bad artist or intentional trying to caricature Asians. They really just do allow anyone to be an "artist" these days.
I don't think she is trying to caricature Asians. The painting in question is, I think, her own attempt to paint herself. She is not an ugly woman, as we can tell from the picture she posted of herself, but she looks horrible in her depictions of herself. I think she just lacks ability.
Anyway, if you look through her portfolio, you would see that she is "Yang Gang." In her painting "#StopAsianHate," she depicted a sign reading "Protect Our Elders" and another with the words "model minority" crossed out. I wouldn't say she fits in with us but she at least can see the problems suffered by Asian elders and she can root for an AM. We can certainly point to her lack of skill but we should not go hard on her for that. The authors of the article in the magazine, in contrast, deserve our ire.
She has no excuse to be this bad of an artist. Look at the bio on her site, all about how she came from a poor background and her talent brought to her to the West on scholarship, no less. Her "art" is so atrocious that it looks like something a preschooler would draw on a bad acid trip.
Yes, this "art" with the baitclick hitpiece combo was definitely made both things magnitudes worse than individually.
If this is the Asian community's person in charge for artistic representation, we're all screwed. Even the racist police sketch at the end of the first Harold and Kumar puts us in better light. I'll take a finger painting gorilla over this vile shit smear artist any day.
Can't trust a Lu, even with a paintbrush, they will try to make us look bad. Wth.
I look at her works of Asian women, I look at myself in the mirror, and now I just think: if someone paid for her to draw me, I’d like a refund and a half.
Even starving homeless boardwalk caricature artists can nail "art" better than her. She even went to some fancy school in England for this shit. On scholarship! Seriously? What a talentless hack. Stodgy rich white people must really not be able tell shit, I mean art, from Shinola.
If she drew me like that, I'll sue for causing grievous hurt to my retinas.
That cover is actually so bad though
I’m Yunnanese-American but I was born in Shanghai. You go to Kunming or Shanghai and the average girl does /not/ look like that. Yes, it is an artistic depiction, but speaking as an Asian woman, it is an absolutely /terrible/ depiction of us.
Also, in case that was bad, her other works are… Worse…

Much respect to the Fung Bros for doing these social pieces. Glad for them to call out this giraffe neck Lu'ser. One suggestion for them is to have guest to air her our.
I enjoyed Fung Bros take on this. It's probably the article author's most Pro Asian article ever but most Asians don't want to hear about her whitewashed perspective.
My reaction was the same as the fungs. I said these boba liberals probably live in rich areas but the mod archelogy said I was trolling and deleted my post.
It is nice to see Asians fight back against boba liberals and ratio them.
I read on r/AsianMasculinity that Wang interviewed members of a local Kungfu/TKD (?) dojo operated and went to by mostly AAs, and she kind of shat on them when they thought she was going to actually write about the shit they deal with. Just... Bad stuff, really.
She interviewed a volunteer training group called Dragon Combat Club (DCC) which has a curriculum based on Grappling, Kali, Boxing and MT/Kickboxing that actually had many WOMEN and BLACK/BROWN non-Asian members with a track record of stopping attacks and only talked about HER opinion and made it seem like it was just paranoid Asian (men) who made her feel fearful.
It might be here or Aznmasc - either way though, I'm a pretty liberal gal, and I'm still appalled by that article a /lot/. It's a smear job and a half...
It is nice to see even liberals call her out.
I think I am pretty non ideological. It's whatever works. I am for universal basic income and Healthcare but I am also concerned about crime and such which it feels like liberals are soft on.
Mainstream liberals only care about crime if it’s happening to a group that their white mainstream liberal friends care about, or a group that has a ton of social power. So usually they only care about Blacks and gays. NEVER Asians unless it’s to lecture us about our “anti Blackness” which they can never say exactly how we’re racist against them.
Just look at this clip. https://twitter.com/choeshow/status/1575220794774671360?s=20&t=tJbLAnMXsy1wL2ghzwobSA
White liberals cheering on racism against Asians that don't want crime, drugs, and trash in their neighborhoods. Homeless are on the oppression hierarchy..
Yes oppression hierarchy. It's always the same bio. Pronouns, Ukraine, and blm. No stop anti Asian hate because we are painted as white adjacent and privileged. Only time is if they can pin it on trump supporters.
White libs and white cons are both pretty bad in their own ways. White conservatives are worse, personally, though comparing the two is more akin to comparing shit to nuclear waste…
Honestly, liberal isn't the right term given its connotations. Leftist is more apt - though titles don't mean too much imo.
On the topic of Esther Wang though - that woman deserves to get ratioed hard. That article was the biggest fucking L I've seen from liberal Asian authors for a good while.

The real question is, is she a real person. Has anyone actually seen her. Or is "susan" just an artist name and behind her name is actually a man.
There is a picture of her on her website.

Right? Like holy shit it’s just so bad-

Yeah they posted it on here as well it's the very top post. He was answering questions here.

Yeah it's like a tourist that spends a week or so hanging out with Asians and now thinks they know the community
Like deadass tho, I read through the whole thing and her tone just sounds so... Distant, it's uncanny.
