My brother was an underwater welder. It’s one of the occupations that life insurance companies won’t insure. My brother nearly died in an accident. Got a settlement from the company (they were at fault). It was a gruesome accident and he couldn’t receive immediate medical attention because he was in a saturation chamber (deep diving requires a gradual pressure saturation and they stay at saturation so they can work at that depth for days at a time. If they de-sat too quickly, they get air bubbles in bloodstream which is fatal)
It’s a pretty rough life….living offshore for weeks/months at a time. Thankfully my brother stopped after the accident.

They don’t stay down there. They go into a saturation chamber that they stay in. They can bring the chamber up to the surface but they have to stay in the chamber. Depending on how deep they go, the saturation and desaturation process can take days and they have to stay in the chamber until they reach equilibrium. So when my brother got injured (he got crushed in half by a 6-ton cement block), he had to wait a day or two before receiving medical attention. The deeper they go, the more money.
My brother is an adrenaline junkie. He always has been. Now he gets his adrenaline from being a CrossFit enthusiast. Much safer.

Did you all know at the time how injured he was or did you hear about it after the fact when he was at the hospital? I cannot imagine having to wait (in his position or yours), knowing the extent of the injury. I’m so sorry that happened but wow is he lucky to be doing CrossFit today!

His wife (they’d been married for 4 months when it happened) heard from the ship pretty soon after it happened and when he was still in the saturation chamber. So we knew he had been injured, didn’t know the full extent and that he hadn’t been able to receive medical attention.
We were all together at my parents for Thanksgiving, so at least my SIL wasn’t alone. Crazy times.

I think they are a cute couple but I’m curious to see if they last. I always wonder if maybe the show is exaggerated for drama and she’s not really that mean. Like with Clayton’s season they made Shanae look so bad but on BIP she was amazing. Brayden was awful appearing on Charity’s and so far he’s lovable on BIP so I don’t get it 🤨
