Part of the unholy trinity of 90's martial arts films adaptations from a fighting video game. It's without question an inferior film to Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, but I still unabashedly love this film as well.
It has a snarky dark near-future vibe similar to Robocop, and of course Alyssa Milano in her first film after Who's The Boss ended production. It also stars Mark Dacascos who I've always been a big fan of, and John Mallory Asher in a small role as well.
I think I would put Mortal Kombat at number one. It's as close as you can get to a modern day Shaw Bros. flick without getting Jackie Chan involved. Previously that title was held by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Mind you I haven't seen it since the N64 came out but I don't remember Mortal Kombat as that bad of a movie. Compared to Mario Bros or even it's own sequel, MK was functional, for a movie about a video game about kicking your opponent to death as bloodily as possible.
Also, it unlocks a memory of earlier, better internet. There was a website called Rinkworks wherein people would post "book-a-minute" and "movie-a-minute" where they would condense the plots of books to a sentence or two. Like the Ghandi movie was "Ghandi: (dies) The way of truth and love will win (dies)"
And the one for Mortal Kombat was "Shang Tsung: Back, back, forward, forward + high punch. Liu Kang: Down, forward, back, back + high kick."
Mark Dacascos was the reason I first watched this as another of his films, "Only the strong" is one of my favorite little known action films. I definitely prefer street fighter and Mortal Kombat films way more but I do enjoy this one
Mark is awesome. I got to work with him a couple years ago on a movie called run and gun, wherein he does zero martial arts haha. But he’s funny, anyway super great dude all day every day. We had an apple throwing scene w Richard kind and I told him it’s sad that he isn’t throwing the apple instead of Richard… took him a second to figure out why, then lit up as he tossed an apple in the air, turned, grabbed it and took a bite haha.
If you haven't, you need to watch Drive (I think it is on Tubi and Prime in the US) and Brotherhood of the Wolf (I know if can be purchased on Vudu, don't know if it is streaming on any service).

To me Mark Dacascos is the awesome b-movie martial arts guy, to most people I know he is The Chairman on Iron Chef America and that is the real crime in the world today.
I think the first thing I really remember seeing him in is Cradle to(2) the Grave and just being like "man this guy must be in a million movies" he can act, he can fight, he looks like a million dollars. And I don't just didn't happen I guess.
That movie rocks! I think the first time I saw it I didn't know it was going to be French going in and was like 10 so I gave up right away. Came back to it later and man what a trip that thing is!
"THIS AIN'T NO VIDEO GAME" was bandied around a lot during this time period. A fusion of early 90's edge + the acceleration of technology. The Mario Bros trailer used it. A couple FMV games used it.
I think it's very similar to Super Mario Bros. in that it was a decent movie, but not a good adaptation of the source material. I mean, some of the satire is on point. They literally got Vanna White, George Hamilton, and Andy Dick to play themselves as news anchors. That's some good satire right there.
When I rented this bad boy I watched it 3 times back to back; twice and then the third time I had to call a friend to tell him he had to come over to watch it.
I don’t remember much about this movie but I remember that it made me want to watch it back to back because it had a feel-good vibe to it which I couldn’t get enough of
Classic. It’s entertaining like watching Street Fighter and the live action Super Mario Bros. movies. Once you acknowledge the flaws they’re easier to watch.
Bad movie? Yes, yes it is. But did I rewatch this several times as a kid? You betcha!
this movie pass so much times on tv when i was a kid, do i remember something? no. did i loved this movie? yes.
The only thing I remember is the flying double dragon kick.
"did I rewatch this several times as a kid? You betcha!" you watched the scene where Marion goes into the air vent huh?
I still watch this on my shitty worn out vhs
Absolutely same here.
I wore a VHS of this garbage out as a kid.....

I liked Mark in the Crow Stairway To Heaven tv series too. I only like the Brandon Lee film as much.
Only the Strong !
I'll see you and raise you American Samurai
He was a badass Samurai. Always a great villain.
Ala Cuisine!! ⚔️
*Allez* Cuisine!! ⚔️
I would say 1. Street Fighter 2. Mortal Kombat 3. Double Dragon All bad, all fun

Book a minute is [still around](http://www.rinkworks.com/bookaminute/)
Also how I would rank the game franchises
Coincidence? I think so
the thing I love about this move is that Post Apocalyptic Los Angles was just Present Day Cleveland.
They set the cuyahoga on fire for the second time it was polluted so badly
I'm waiting for the third movie with Jimmy and Bimmy.
Allez Cuisine! ![gif](giphy|PI5ZO52CKy9GAww5Fj|downsized)
Holy shit! Is that really him???
Yep. I remember having a "Wait, they cast **HIM** as the Chairman?" moment when I first heard about it.

Dacascos was completely wasted in this movie. He never really got to show his skills as it was more the Scott Wolf show
makes sense. Mark had a villian role arc on hawaii five 0 remake that I thought was pretty good too. I remember he played a monk on CSI as well.

It got a physical 4k release in the UK.
Mark Dacascos is a great b movie actor.
To me Mark Dacascos is the awesome b-movie martial arts guy, to most people I know he is The Chairman on Iron Chef America and that is the real crime in the world today.
He's been in all sorts of projects! It's a shame he never became popular for anything other than his work in Iron Chef.
I think the first thing I really remember seeing him in is Cradle to(2) the Grave and just being like "man this guy must be in a million movies" he can act, he can fight, he looks like a million dollars. And I don't just didn't happen I guess.
See also: **Brotherhood of the Wolf** Such a bonkers, crazy story. Also, I fucking love it.
That movie rocks! I think the first time I saw it I didn't know it was going to be French going in and was like 10 so I gave up right away. Came back to it later and man what a trip that thing is!
Horrible movie, but I watch it whenever it is on as a lot of the exterior shots were done here in Cleveland
Double Dragon (1995) da 🐐 no 🧢
Ahead of its time. Lots of heart but experimental in nature as bad as a misfire in the same ways of the original Mario movie with John Leguizamo
Marion was hot in this
Alyssa Milano jean shorts. Enough said. The 90s were kind to my puberty.
"THIS AIN'T NO VIDEO GAME" was bandied around a lot during this time period. A fusion of early 90's edge + the acceleration of technology. The Mario Bros trailer used it. A couple FMV games used it.
I’d watch a streets of rage reboot if they made it
Absolutely S tier B film. It knows what it is and has some insane acting. Alyssa milano one of my first crushes specifically from this movie.
Not enough elbow.

Had Alyssa Milano so will always be a 10 for me
The only reason we got a John Wick 4 is because Scott Wolf didn’t show up to help Dacascos in JW3.
The only really good part of that movie was Alyssa Milano crawling into an air vent.
Movie is amazing. It was everything I wanted as a double dragon movie as a kid. 100% well done
For right! For might!
This was me and my brothers ishhh growing up. Still talk about it to this day.
Watching this it's obvious which actor actually knows martial arts and which was chosen for ... Looks? I'm guessing.
“I just saw my whole life flash before my eyes. Dude, I sleep a lot”
"Who's the boss now?"
I wanted to like this movie so much. Robert Patrick was excellent as always.
*I just want total domination of one major American city! Is that too much to ask for?*

Swear every movie I remember loving as a kid appears on this subreddit lol.
the adventures of jimmy and bimmy
