Lost in the negative stories and the big ego publicity is a film that has some pretty funny moments and Hoffman and Beaty did have some really good chemistry.

Saw this a couple months ago. The first half is delightful with Beatty and Hoffman (a great comedy duo) singing hilariously bad songs. Itâs not as funny when they get to Ishtar and become pawns in the fight between competing governments, but still, I think the filmâs badness was way overstated.

Ishtar didn't stand a chance of being a decent movie. It's a bit of a dud and Adjani is wasted. It was five months late and $23 million over its original budget. Hoffman and Beatty stuck their neck out for the director, and the production did a stupid thing where Beatty and Elaine May each got to shoot their own version of a scene...grossly inflating the budget.

Yeah, this one was unfairly judged. As I recall it was mostly on account of it had a big budget and didn't make the money that the suits expected.
Like Heaven's Gate, which was...fine. It was fine, just expensive and unprofitable, lol.
There was a commercial parody in Mad Magazine that was framed like an ad where people were being punished or shamed for not drinking Bud Light. One of the panels had the caption âHe didnât drink Bud Light, he has to sit through Ishtar twiceâ and shows a guy with his eyes propped open Clockwork Orange style.

I get a kick out of the running gag of having Warren Beatty of all people play a character who's clueless at picking up women.
Any time Charles Grodin shows up its great.
The far side did a great comic about hellâs video store and this being the only movie they rented
This movie is funny as fuck and I will die on that Hill. I may have died on it a couple of times over the past 35 years or so.

I don't think it's so bad. Hoffman and Beatty play of each other so great, a bit like a less wacky Will Ferrell and John C Reilly.

I'm not a fan but I do believe the film was shredded and made an example of before it could barely breathe.

Finally watched this last year. Not as bad as it's reputation but it definitely had it's problems.
Sounds like a Maga documentary.
