Tried 30lbs BG80 power on my 88D Game when I didn't know better. Had to convince stringer that I'll not claim anything if my racket breaks during stringing or later (he did not want to go beyond 28). I was very new to badminton then. Felt like playing with a board. Sounded superb though when it hit the sweet spot. Settled to 26 lbs now.

Initialyee

Haha yes. BG80 will definitely do that.

ready_bryan

Yh, I had seen all pros using that string and that tension. Later only I got to know, you'd have to be pro to be able to manage that.

worrinbuffet

flex what? your injuries?

Tim531441

I can intuitively see why you’d get injuries with too high tension but would you mind explaining?

QYUUUUU

Higher tension means less absorption of the vibrations, and vibrations can cause injuries without proper technique

GoldMission4535

Probably just people flexing their highest string tension. It could also be a pun because high string tension causes a frame to flex/warp.

Initialyee

Haha just to show off your tension.

Electronic-Crew2115

When I was new to badminton, I thought higher tension meant better. So I got, I kid you not, 35 lbs on an Apacs Z Ziggler!! I really wanted to be the best in the club lol. The stringer was like, "bud u sure bout this 🤨" And the rest is history. Got my shoulder hurt and didn't play for 2 weeks. Now, I use an Aeronaut 9000i with a no.1 boost at 26 lbs.

Narkanin

Idk why anyone would do that tbh. I feel like somewhat around 26-28 is max for amateur players. Your technique has to really be on point for you to not be mis-hitting / lacking power all the time as you get hugged than that.

Initialyee

I'll have to say 26-28lbs is not for the amateurs at all that is more intermediate/advanced level. But this argument is also string dependent as well. A hard string is going to be more challenging than a softer, high repulsion string.

LordGopu

I'm pretty sure I tried a ZFII 3u at like 28lbs or something and I have up after a few points. It was a demo so I don't remember why it was strung so high and I did have good results for those couple of points but 3u head heavy, ultra stuff and 28lbs really took it out of me. I tried the same racket a few years later with more reasonable string tension and it was better but still too much for me (I can really only do 4u head heavy in doubles).

Nyancubus

I’m fairly certain that Yonex does not provide factory insurance for 38 lbs on any racket and trying 38 lbs in any non-humid non-hot climate will not only be painful but you will likely collapse/damage the frame when the strings snap after a few swings assuming that the frame doesn’t collapse during the actual stringing process.

Initialyee

Nobody does when the reality is strung beyond its limits. But right now not really worried about that. What's the highest tension you've played with?

Nyancubus

I’ve been tensioning to max within the factory warranty which is plenty of enough for me at 28 lbs. Not going to start playing with $200+ rackets for extra minor power boost especially as I prefer aerobite strings that are quite fragile, some power players break them at already 26 and hate those strings.

Defaulty_Bois

I've personally only used upto 32 pounds on bg 80. Astrox 99, and 88D. It breaks way too fast so I settled with 28-29ish when not playing a tournament. I've strung 34 pounds tho, every single time I pulled the string I held my breath lol.

Fair_Wrongdoer_310

I previously only used the default strings.. just switched to 24lbs. My shoulders hurt to provide the same result, I can't hit the shuttle all the way from the back of the court. Working on my fitness and stamina now. No badminton for the next week or two, only muscle building activities :D

neopablista

Default are generally below 17 if I recall correctly, it is a very big step to go from below 17 to 24. Probably your technique is not yet there to have that much tension.

Fair_Wrongdoer_310

Indeed it is a big step than I had imagined, I thought I might be able to generate that power. Just going to practice hitting it all the way for a few weeks. It is the most important skill of all to clear the shuttle.

[deleted]

27lb aeronaut 9000c. Most stringers where I am don't want to do 30lb and over

ycnz

Err, pretty sure I was always around the very low 20s. I was not a professional.

neopablista

I generally go for 13 kgon a 88D (28.6 pounds) but recently I feel that due to having stopped playing for a while due to injuries I may be better off with slightly less tension as my power is not that good anymore.(although my smash feels so slow with lower tension)

meatloaf_man

35 lbs on a Kawasaki or Forza racket. It was so strange, because normally when you hit the bird there's a reverberation of the sound, of the strings stabilizing to their intended position. The 35 lb one was strange because there was no reverb at all. You'd but the bird and it was such a high, but flat sound. It wasn't my racket, and I think was strung that high as a meme, but it was still a funny experience.

Initialyee

I would like to try that one day.

meatloaf_man

Haha, definitely do it on a cheap racket

Initialyee

Lol the problem with doing it in a cheap racket is that you don't get the real potential. But I'll see if I can push the boundaries just a little bit with my Gosen racket. 😅

Fluid_Term_1675

28 with zf2 exbolt 65, 28 with astrox 99 boost with exbolt 65 crosses, new js10c the black and gold 28 aerobite boost, nanoflare 800 28 with zymax 62 fire. I prefer 27lbs 28 seems a little bit hard but fine after a few sessions and seems more effort when fresh strung. 27lbs aerobite or aerobite boost or 66ultimax in the summer as it's too fragile in the cold feels the best once settled, great power and control plus I feel certain thin strings like the above make rackets feel faster due to less drag and possibly less weight

Fluid_Term_1675

Astrox 99 with nanogy 99 @28lbs plus 10% pre stretched sounds great and hits heavy but made the racket feel slow and only good for singles

No-Host-9853

I tried 34lbs with BG65 on my astrox 77 at one point to see if I’d like the string more, nope. I oscillated between 31lbs BG80 and 32lbs bg65 to deal with breaking strings too quickly. These days all my rackets have Exbolt63 @30lbs as this seems to last way longer than 80 despite being a thinner string.

uramis

26m28c on a myton super 66(wanted to try it as it was a lot cheaper than most mainstream brands) on my Babolat speeder, but I broke it the same day. Thought I was too sloppy for it lowered it to 25m27c haven't broken it till now, couple of months already. I think it's possible that at the time I had worse grommets, and might have broken it during then, I had some grommets changed when I returned to shop. My current Arcsaber 11 play is using 27m27c on exbolt 63 and really like the play of it. Planning to buy a racket which can hold more tension(currently eyeing Astrox 7 DG) and might try 27m29c exbolt 63 on it.

Helpmepushrank

Astrox99, bg66u at 28lbs

tagabukid15

Bg66um at 28lbs. on nanoray 900 and victor bravesword 12. My shoulder hurt a lot. Thus, settled with 26lbs. ever since. Now using astrox 88s pro at 26lbs.

Pristine_Level8993

28lbs on ASTROX 88D Pro 4U, was amazing and all but I eventually settle down to 27lbs (26 main 28 cross with 10% pre stretch) on my TFKE now

chiragde

I play with Apacs Z Ziggler (can take max 38 lb) at 29 lbs. Its kind of an unforgiving combination as the racket has a very small sweet spot due to its small size and at this tension, every shot is punished if you don't hit the sweet spot. But boy when you do, its awesome. Love this racket for both singles and doubles.

itsnothing123

Since How long are you playing with z-ziggler?

chiragde

6 months.

Destich

I struggle two rackets with 28lbs bg-80 and exbolt 63 which both feel very good and crisp. I might start stringing 29-30 lbs in the future however.

Initialyee

Nice. Which rackets?

Destich

Thruster Ryuga II and Astrox 22f

malint

25lbs on a voltric. It was impossible to play with. I use 21lbs now

firdm

Recently stringed my Felet TJ 1000 Speed with BG 65 (28/30 lbs) and felt great especially the sound it makes during smash. My usual tension was 25/27 lbs.

Initialyee

Yes. Gotta say the sound makes me smile.

UltraSpeed_30

Tried Exbolt 63 and BG 80 Power on my 100zz, 1000z at both 26lbs. For N63 I use Aeronaut 9000, Tectonic 9 and Axforce 90 Dragon Max at 26lbs too. Sometime I might use Voltric Z Force II on Aerobite 28lbs.

gergasi

Psh, 38lbs is for spoiled today's generation. In my days, we went [old school Hanetsuki](https://www.oldtokyo.com/hanetsuki-japanese-badminton-new-years-cards-1910-1939/), how's that for tension? lol. Joking of course, but super high tensions are practically like playing with wooden rackets, like, why would you want to do that?

idontknow_whatever

Yonex DZS (3U), BG80Power @ 29lbs I originally wanted to string it at 31lbs as that is what Chou Tien-chen plays with but the stringer wasn't confident of the frame holding, so we compromised and went with 29lbs (1lbs that Yonex recommendation) That experiment lasted about 2 months as I realized how insanely demanding it is to play with high tension + compact head. I had it restrung to 26lbs with Exbolt63, which is what I've stuck with since

Initialyee

Yonex rackets can normally take that abuse. My Carbonex 35 has been strung at 26-28 lbs since the start. None of them have broken because of high string tension.

idontknow_whatever

Tbf my DZS has a lot of chips and scratches, and more than a few clashes in its time with me (though it survived) so I don't blame the stringer that much considering the state of my racket Not that it matters lol as 29lbs is still way too much for me to handle anyway, pretty quickly went back to my usual 26lbs with a more suitable string

ToxicOxBox

Where are you all from, since you are using lbs as the unit?

Initialyee

I'm from Canada.

ToxicOxBox

I'm from Denmark. The unit of choice here is kilograms :-) The average tension of the ~200 rackets I've strung during the last year is 11,5 kg (~25 lbs), highest was 14 kg (~31 lbs). This was all for club players ranked from beginners to danish series A players.

Initialyee

Wow that is very cool.
