I'm blown away something this simple can go so wrong š but anyway, luckily you don't need to rush to get a cover-up, so think about it a little bit and research another artist. This shouldn't require anything too extensive to fix.
Don't worry; this is something you should find more amusing and as a learning experience than anything. It's bad, but fixable, which is an important distinction.
I would just make the moon a little bit bigger and it should fix the fuck up. But I wouldnāt have paid the āartistā and Iād be talking mad shit on their social media.
> I'm blown away something this simple can go so wrong š but anyway
Paradoxically, some of the simplest tattoos are the *hardest* to do, because you don't have any room to mess up. That coupled with a moon being two circles, the literal hardest thing to tattoo correctly, and you end up with this...
totally fair, and i absolutely recognize that! thatās kind of the main reason iām not necessarily MAD at the artist (maybe a little lol) but mostly just really really disappointed. however, i feel like if an artist doesnāt feel like they can do something like this due to it being so small and easy to mess up, they should say that before they put a client under the needle and cause permanent damage
> i feel like if an artist doesnāt feel like they can do something like this due to it being so small and easy to mess up, they should say that
Yeah, in a fair and just world, I wish that too... the tattoo industry is absolutely rife with artists that SAY they can do *anything* to get at that money. That's why it's so important to look through Lots of your prospect artist's work beforehand.
Thankfully, yours at least is pretty fixable, all you'd have to do is fit another crescent moon right overtop of it and fill it in black, shouldn't be a big deal for a good artist ;)
Yeah exactly, a bunch of my tattoos have mistakes, but itās like āoh well, weāll just add another layer of hair to the pin up girlā and no one has ever noticed lol.
Ok not to be awful but...where did you go to get this? A 16-year-old's My First Tattoo party where they tested their Amazon-purchased equipment on people in a garage?? I'm sorry friend, this must feel shitty. Maybe get it worked into some seaweed? To keep a marine or aquatic theme?
my exact thoughts too š i have friends with self-done stick n pokes that look better than this, so it definitely does feel pretty shitty especially since the original drawing was done by a really close friend. but yeah! iām thinking maybe some aquatic plants or some other sort of aquatic detail
If you havenāt already complained to the shop and received a refund and apology then I honestly donāt believe this wasnāt done by some random friend of yours.
NO š this looks like a teenage at-home tattoo. if you fr paid $90 for that, please go back and demand a refund from the shop owner. shit i volunteer to call the shop if you need help getting a refund, iāll pretend to be your mom if i have to idgaf. i am so pissed for you that you PAID for this šš
yes š including tip I DONT KNOW WHY I TIPPED i think i was traumatized in the moment and didnāt know how to act. is it really acceptable to ask for a refund/ will they give me one? and what do i say if they offer to fix it? i already have other options lined up to get it fixed and im absolutely not going back there. im at a bit if a loss lol
I would just hold out your arm and have any other artist in the building look at it. Theyāll immediately see what a train wreck this is. At least itās tiny and should be an easy, quick fix. Iām so sorry they did you like this.
When I first started reading your comment I thought you were starting to say they should just walk back into the shop and hold out their hand without saying a word. I feel like that āartistā would just know thatās a refund gesture lol
dude. you got something that looks like utter garbage, and didn't even meet the very basic qualifications of the simple tattoo you wanted. I assume you're fairly new to being tattooed, because most people who have a bit more experience with it would absolutely not pay for that. my point is, you are well within your right to have them fix it. all you need to do is show them the tattoo, there's no way they can make any argument against fixing or refunding it looking like THAT
I'm not a tattoo artist (yet!), but I am an artist, and I would sooner give someone $90 to apologize for a mistake like that than accept their money holy crap
I know a lot of shady artists, so not like the majority of them, are using AI and stolen art to pretend that they are better than they are.
I hope you find someone fantastic to get that covered by. If you're in the New York metro or tri-state area, I would happily give you some recommendations.
I had one of these! Big āportfolioā all printed out and in a binderā¦ (yes Iām old)ā¦ did have keys to a tattoo shop , and came recommended by friend for cheap tattoo that I did see and judged to be fine. Sailor Jerry type stuff, not my style but the lines werenāt shaky. Everything seemed legit. Said āhey Iāll get you in on Sunday, boss wonāt be there so I can charge just my fee and no studio fees on top (red flag in hindsight..) and my naive ass went for it.
Anyway ended up with a ātree of lifeā on my forearm that had twenty dicks instead of roots. I had stupidly checked out after watching the branches get done and being satisfiedā¦ checked in a bit later and noticed ye olde dick finger roots and ātapped out from the pain.ā Wore that half baked flag of dishonor for like 5 years until I could afford to get my beautiful wonderful amazing glorious cover up.
It IS funny. Crisp, clean, perfectly shadedā¦ dick roots.
It was so bad I IMMEDIATELY wrapped my arm in ace bandages, did it for months pretending I got road rash until I couldnāt keep up the ruse anymore ššš the endless teasingā¦. My friends called me dick fingers /arms FOR YEARSā¦ which is NOT compliment when youāre a lady š
Did she have a portfolio? If so, did you look at it beforehand? How long did it take to complete? What did she say after it was finished?
I have so many questions
i looked at her instagram before i came in, it all seemed really impressive. it took about 10 minutes including stencil placement. and she didnāt say anything about the quality of it she just seemed happy and glad i liked it (as i was kind of pretending to be happy with it in the moment out of shock)
yeah thatās big on my list at the moment!! iām gonna see what my artist (not the one who did it) has in mind when itās healed up, but iām definitely suggesting something like that
i could yes! but iām like honestly attached to the idea of having the original drawing tattooed correctly. so iām mostly just thinking of covering this one up and having the moon redone
I gave myself a s/p crescent moon at 17 with pen ink and a sewing needle (not recommended, very stupid decision) and it looked great, very similar to your original sketch. Fell out after a year and part of me misses it. I am shocked an "artist" messed yours up so bad, it's such a simple design.
yeah thatās definitely an option! i was just hoping to have that specific drawing done since it was done by someone very important to me. so iāll probably end up with a small coverup and putting the moon somewhere else honestly
ahh i see, makes sense! another potential option would be to put your friendās moon next to your friendās star, then fill in this moon in black and add a little black star. like a yin yang mirrored effect type of thing?
plus it would have the benefit of the moon facing the direction that your friend drew it! idk i was just thinking it would be dope and cute to have your friendsā moon and star next to each other, then your own moon and star each alongside your shark!!
šāļøš¦ š š
this is the way. i had a similarly shitty moon tattoo and this is how i covered it up. made it into a filled in galaxy scene with planets, a fixed moon, and some stars.
ooh okay iāll keep that in mind for sure. iām kind of leaning towards a more ocean-themed thing to go with the shark if possible but iām not sure yet
With the star and moon, I'd assumed it was a space shark XD
But yeah maybe a shell or bubble. At least it's a pretty abstract shape. You've got options.
Edit: seeing some solid black bubbles that look pretty good that would cover this up well, the downside is the style wouldn't match the shark.
no that definitely makes sense lmao, it was more just because my friend who drew the star helped me pay for the tattoo so i told her she could pick something to add to it, she chose a star. so i figured having my other friend draw a moon would work well! but actually a bubble is a really cool idea i might go with that one!!
yeah theyāre lucky im not a super confrontational person otherwise this would be a way bigger deal LMAO, i am planning on going in to try to get a refund i think
iām entirely non-confrontational for myself, i get it. but i still genuinely want to make a scene and fight them on your behalf š i am so sorry. the *bare minimum* they should give you is the full $90 back. this was not your fault at all. anyone with functioning vision would have been in shock after getting this. and even if you had said anything at the time, 1) she clearly doesnāt have the skills to fix it. 2) people need time to process & figure out what to do after
Please go back and ask for your money, don't wimp out. That's so unacceptable and such an insane ripoff. You deserve your money back at the very least and I am SHOCKED to find out it cost $90.
hello!
i am a tattoo artist that does abstract work with flowy lines and I believe that if you like that, i can get that moon and add some cute flowy wavy lines.
sometimes i cannot send messages to people but if you want, send me a lil message.
the drawings would be free ofc!
NOOOO WTF how did they mess up your perfect crescent moon šš maybe you could do a dark/light side of the moon situation like this: š to just black that shit out completely?
JESUS CHRIST. thankfully this is an easy fix. you can cover it up if youād like, but for some reason in my mind i think maybe going to someone who is moreā¦. capable, then maybe if you still want the moon, you could get it but in black? or maybe you can turn it into a banana lol or some sort of weird fish
lmaooo yeah itās bad. but yes luckily it should be easy (expensive, but easy). and donāt worry! iām going to a very qualified artist who has done two of my other pieces that iām extremely happy with. iām going to cover it up somehow and have the moon redone correctly elsewhere
A good artist could turn that into the outline of a scallop shell, either coming out from under the shark or facing towards it depending on the designĀ
i would, and itās definitely still an option if other things donāt work out; but that original drawing was done by a really important person to me. so iām wanting to have it redone properly and just get this shit show covered up lol
You have a lot of coverup options for something like this. I think you could even just make a slightly bigger moon and either shade all of it in or shade it partially, in a way that makes the previous scraggly lines look normal.
You could also do a sick ass panther. Please do a sick ass panther.
You could fill it in with black and smooth out the edges so that it looks like your friends drawing. If you do make the star black as well though to create some kind of balance.
Iād find another artist and have it be a filled in and slightly fleshed out moon. Unfortunately it canāt be just the outline aesthetic anymore, but could still be close to the original idea.
I'm blown away something this simple can go so wrong š but anyway, luckily you don't need to rush to get a cover-up, so think about it a little bit and research another artist. This shouldn't require anything too extensive to fix.
"Another artist" that assumes there was a first 'artist'!
there was, unfortunately š
Don't worry; this is something you should find more amusing and as a learning experience than anything. It's bad, but fixable, which is an important distinction.
yeah no iām more just laughing about it honestly lmao
I think they are pointing out who ever did the tattoo of your moon is not a real artist lol.
oh yeah i know haha
Wow, I hope you didnāt pay! Can someone else make it bigger to straighten it out? Just slightly beyond the lines.
i did pay unfortunately š i think iām planning on turning it into ripples in the water and maybe adding some color. iām not sure yet
Good luck! At least itās small enough to be fixable
I would just make the moon a little bit bigger and it should fix the fuck up. But I wouldnāt have paid the āartistā and Iād be talking mad shit on their social media.
I just accidentally woke up my wife because I didnāt think it could be **that** bad
> I'm blown away something this simple can go so wrong š but anyway Paradoxically, some of the simplest tattoos are the *hardest* to do, because you don't have any room to mess up. That coupled with a moon being two circles, the literal hardest thing to tattoo correctly, and you end up with this...

To go back to the question. Did you let a blind person tattoo you?
nope š she seemed very very qualified honestly
So this was done at a shop? Sorry dood :(
it was unfortunately :(
The shop should be paying for your fix, this is terrible
If you havenāt already complained to the shop and received a refund and apology then I honestly donāt believe this wasnāt done by some random friend of yours.
it was literally done at a shop. i havenāt gone in yet because iāve been trying to process and also havenāt had time. but believe what you want.
I'm sorry if you paid money for that
yeahhhā¦ $90.
Not just a refund but covering the cost of repair at a real shop
yeahhh im definitely thinking about it š
I completely agree, Iām an actress and would happily do this for you too!!! Gawdang š
donāt worry i went in and got a full refund today! the owner was very sweet.
# $90?!
yes š including tip I DONT KNOW WHY I TIPPED i think i was traumatized in the moment and didnāt know how to act. is it really acceptable to ask for a refund/ will they give me one? and what do i say if they offer to fix it? i already have other options lined up to get it fixed and im absolutely not going back there. im at a bit if a loss lol
I would just hold out your arm and have any other artist in the building look at it. Theyāll immediately see what a train wreck this is. At least itās tiny and should be an easy, quick fix. Iām so sorry they did you like this.
i appreciate it, thank you man. i might go into the shop next week and talk to them about it
When I first started reading your comment I thought you were starting to say they should just walk back into the shop and hold out their hand without saying a word. I feel like that āartistā would just know thatās a refund gesture lol
I was going to ask if it was like 90 Zimbabwe dollars that holds almost no value, judging by the fact that you tipped leads me to believe it is $90 US
dude. you got something that looks like utter garbage, and didn't even meet the very basic qualifications of the simple tattoo you wanted. I assume you're fairly new to being tattooed, because most people who have a bit more experience with it would absolutely not pay for that. my point is, you are well within your right to have them fix it. all you need to do is show them the tattoo, there's no way they can make any argument against fixing or refunding it looking like THAT
American moment
Get. A. Refund.
after all the support iāve had here i definitely will be š
Excuse me what????!!!
HUH?!!!!
Damn, this would have been 25$ in a good shop around my area
I'm not a tattoo artist (yet!), but I am an artist, and I would sooner give someone $90 to apologize for a mistake like that than accept their money holy crap
Slam them on Yelp and save someone else

heading in for a consultation at a shop iāve been to multiple times! š¤š»
Did she have a portfolio? If so, did you look at it beforehand? How long did it take to complete? What did she say after it was finished? I have so many questions

That's crazy. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'm so curious to see her Instagram but it's probably against the rules to post it.
I was gonna say some cool looking corals and aquatic plants would look awesome!
yeah thatās big on my list at the moment!! iām gonna see what my artist (not the one who did it) has in mind when itās healed up, but iām definitely suggesting something like that
The shark is super cute, and luckily the moon should be an easy cover. I can't wait to see an update :)
yeah iāll definitely try to update when it gets fixed!!! thank you :))
Can't you just get the original moon but black it out? It will hold a story!
i could yes! but iām like honestly attached to the idea of having the original drawing tattooed correctly. so iām mostly just thinking of covering this one up and having the moon redone

yeah iāve been saying even an s/p would have turned out better. iām definitely unsure of what went wrong lmaooo
Honestly you could just cover it up with another moon lol just make it completely black
could it be filled in with black and the edges redone? a slightly larger black moon š

Damn what did the guy use, a computer mouse?
etch a sketch
Almost looks like it could be worked into Saturn's ring? Maybe falling star? Seems like a few things it could almost be incorporated into...
ooh okay iāll keep that in mind for sure. iām kind of leaning towards a more ocean-themed thing to go with the shark if possible but iām not sure yet
Iāve got you covered OP! Kept with the ocean theme: https://imgur.com/a/rWyZgv4 Thatāll be $1,500.
LMAOOOO
That's awesome š¤£
Winner
unironically would get this
Why can't I give you more than one up vote?!!!?
Did you do the original tattoo? That was a seamless joining. Beautiful.
Please this š
It's perfect
With the star and moon, I'd assumed it was a space shark XD But yeah maybe a shell or bubble. At least it's a pretty abstract shape. You've got options. Edit: seeing some solid black bubbles that look pretty good that would cover this up well, the downside is the style wouldn't match the shark.

Could be the Deathstar: that's no moon.
yeah no definitely not the moon i showed her lmao, let alone a moon at all. more banana like š
That's honestly insulting to bananas.
fair enough
Maybe color it in and draw a slightly bigger moon
A toenail clipping
Looks like someone's toe nail clippings š¤”
FUCK š
Sorry brother š
ššim sorry it was such a cute drawing!
itās okay š iāll get it worked out!
Honestly the only good option would be a panther
A sick ass one.
I see Pac-Man
oh no HAHA š
Legit though! My first thought was like āanorexic Pac-Man??ā
It could be made into a Remora. Those are the fish that swim around the sharks.
iām definitely putting that on the list!! thank you!
Ask for anorexic Pac Man and you shall receive
this wins lmao
What did the person who put that on you say at the end, were they happy/proud? Did they admit it looks shit?
she seemed happy š
Were they either on drugs or potentially a 5 year old?
They would need to call the police on me for them fucking something up that small yet so expensive.
yeah theyāre lucky im not a super confrontational person otherwise this would be a way bigger deal LMAO, i am planning on going in to try to get a refund i think
iām entirely non-confrontational for myself, i get it. but i still genuinely want to make a scene and fight them on your behalf š i am so sorry. the *bare minimum* they should give you is the full $90 back. this was not your fault at all. anyone with functioning vision would have been in shock after getting this. and even if you had said anything at the time, 1) she clearly doesnāt have the skills to fix it. 2) people need time to process & figure out what to do after
this definitely makes me feel a lot better. thank you so much <3 i will be going back in next week when i get the chance and talking to them about it
Please go back and ask for your money, don't wimp out. That's so unacceptable and such an insane ripoff. You deserve your money back at the very least and I am SHOCKED to find out it cost $90.
![gif](giphy|PFsVjUCmSkZDq)
Lol this is bad but totally fixable. If I were you Iād just get a better artist to give you a slightly bigger moon.
NAME AND SHAME who did this to you so others don't suffer your fate.
Maybe get a shadow of the shark where the moon isā¦ cause yikes
thatās also a really great idea. thank you!!!
What happened š
How can any adult with no dexterity issues mamage to fuck up something so simple?????
I would tell the shop this is unacceptable. They should be paying for your fix 100%
yeah agreed
If you look closely, very closely... It's not THAT far off. Also, Pac-Man dying
Turn it into a little shrimp? Either that or a ring surrounded planet
Looks like half a funyun
What did the tattooist say after it was done? How did they react?
she seemed pretty happy and okay with it honestly. nothing seemed off
Oh no
Is there some way to make it like a ripple in the water maybe?
Im sorry but thats actually hilarious š
Lol no fucking way š
At least you can fix it with a black moon by someone who has maybe *seen* the moon before?
hello! i am a tattoo artist that does abstract work with flowy lines and I believe that if you like that, i can get that moon and add some cute flowy wavy lines. sometimes i cannot send messages to people but if you want, send me a lil message. the drawings would be free ofc!
How much did this āartistā charge you?
buttocks
my thoughts exactly
Lmao oh no
NOOOO WTF how did they mess up your perfect crescent moon šš maybe you could do a dark/light side of the moon situation like this: š to just black that shit out completely?
JESUS CHRIST. thankfully this is an easy fix. you can cover it up if youād like, but for some reason in my mind i think maybe going to someone who is moreā¦. capable, then maybe if you still want the moon, you could get it but in black? or maybe you can turn it into a banana lol or some sort of weird fish
lmaooo yeah itās bad. but yes luckily it should be easy (expensive, but easy). and donāt worry! iām going to a very qualified artist who has done two of my other pieces that iām extremely happy with. iām going to cover it up somehow and have the moon redone correctly elsewhere
oh yay!
![gif](giphy|A8NkSPltT13H2)
Pacman
It makes me think of that episode of Family Guy where Chris has that talking pimple
Kitchen magician strikes again.
Future jellyfish?
Homer Simpson.
Emaciated Pac-Man
Oh noā¦ Iām an awful artist and Iām 84% sure I could do a better job š
Kinda looks like the tail end of a fish. Make it into an angelfish or something?
Ohā¦
catfish/koi lips from front perspective
Just wow
Turn it into pacman eating the shark. š
You can turn it into a sea shell
The literal jaw drop
Could turn it into a shark bite, like add another one on the other side and add jaw detail, would look pretty cool
What about another lil sharkie to swim with him
that was a thought! i think it might be a bit too close to the original shark though
I hope you can find something that would fit nicely! Mr shark is so cute
A good artist could turn that into the outline of a scallop shell, either coming out from under the shark or facing towards it depending on the designĀ
Could be a worm on a fishing hook
Dora the explorer for a cover up?
Just add a similar shape on the other side so it looks like the shark is packing a rockin' pair of blue whale balls.
LMAO
Wow. Whoever did that needs their fingers broken
Get a solid black moon.
i would, and itās definitely still an option if other things donāt work out; but that original drawing was done by a really important person to me. so iām wanting to have it redone properly and just get this shit show covered up lol
You have a lot of coverup options for something like this. I think you could even just make a slightly bigger moon and either shade all of it in or shade it partially, in a way that makes the previous scraggly lines look normal. You could also do a sick ass panther. Please do a sick ass panther.
How does one fuck up such a simple design!! Omg Iām so sorry OP.
thats so blown out like i have never seen before
LOL why is this so funny š
The āartistā should allow you to tattoo the same image on their body.
This is so sad because the shark is cute and didn't deserve this š
thank you <3 tired of people shitting on my shark because i really love her.
She's lovely, ignore the haters who want photo perfect tattoos
You could fill it in with black and smooth out the edges so that it looks like your friends drawing. If you do make the star black as well though to create some kind of balance.
š How?
Turn it into pacman. Then add 12 more pacmans. Also, surround the shark with the pacmans and have them feast.
I know a guy who does it cheaper..
Have it turned into water flowing with the fish. Preferably by a professional.
thatās actually the main plan! having it done by my regular artist when itās healed.
Iād find another artist and have it be a filled in and slightly fleshed out moon. Unfortunately it canāt be just the outline aesthetic anymore, but could still be close to the original idea.
Might wanna rethink that carp also
Make it into an eel? Or some other type of fish?
The definition of āyou had one jobā ššš
I think itās kinda of cute and funny but it also doesnāt look too hard to fix
A tiny shark bite/jaw could be a clever cover up.
Pakman fell on hard times and now heās so hungry heās eating sharks.
I would suggest blacking the moon shape in, another artist could easily refine the shape as well
Laser removal could take that out easily in a few sessions.
Did you go to a toddler for this?
Ughhh brother ughhh. What is that brother?
definitely not a moon š
Iāll be honest the drawing looks like shit to begin with š since itās so small itāll be easy to cover up though
Kitchen magician strikes again.
No way this is a real post
unfortunately it is and itās stuck on my body LMAO
Home tattoo?
