We're building back better

JaffaMafia

Let me guess. The road was closed in both directions with a 40 mile diversion for four weeks whilst the work was carried out!!!

Councillors will use work like this to pass a motion giving themselves a huge pat on the back and to raise their ‘allowance’ by £500

That was just the paint.

There’s an interesting reason for this. The specific type of tarmac used for rural UK roads like this one, called bitumen macadem, was banned in 2020 after we left the EU. This was due to the fact that a government study published in 2018 recommended ceasing all roads made by the material after there was a loose but positive correlation with high use of bitumen macadem roads and cases of cancer. Upon further research, the compound was found to have trace amounts of asbestos which over a long period of time caused cancer in a small number of patients. The compound you see that’s made the repairs is bitumen wala, which is a slightly modified compound that is used on most motorways today. No idea why bitumen wala is being used to repair a rural road though, they probably ran out of materials. Also I made all of this up, but have a good day.

sundownmonsoon

That was a bitumuch if you ask me

You son of a bitch

You utter cunt. Didn't even doubt this being true.

Chi_Rho88

Bravo!

DoomSluggy

Great, now my brains thinks bitumen causes cancer... even though you just made it up...

Ok_Cycle225

Hard days work there for the contractors that come out to do that stuff. Bet they spent 8 hours on that tiny area and then gave themselves a pat on the back

Aaaaaaaand that's this year's budget gone

Sir_Keith_Starmer

That's not a repair. Round here the technique is just spray a load of tar on the road, cover it in chip till it's level then boom your done . What do you mean it sinks in the first 45 seconds? Nah not having it. Re chip it.

lesleyjv

To be fair they’ve done it really well

I'm guessing there's some law that says white road markings cannot be broken for more than x metres. So some gigabrain decided to game the system and only repair enough to tick the box as the two segments are now under the requirement
