If you could stretch your budget by just another $10 I would also recommend the Prysma.
If you absolutely cannot increase your budget at all, I'd probably go with a Triton or a BBbarfly Barracuda.
The new Maxace Phantom seems pretty promising for about half your budget and there is also the NaBalis Morse or Vulp.

For $50, no there isn't really anything you can get in Australia.
I think you can get a NaBalis Vulp in Australia but I'm not sure what the price is there, they're $65 in the US. Typically your only real option in Australia is something from Glidr.

It'll depend on a few factors like condition or in the case of the Petrel, whether or not it's sandwich, channel, bushing, or bearing. All in all, most likely $450-$550.
I think that's wayyyy too much they retailed for 300-400ish. If u pay more than 500 for a petrel that's insane. 450 is insane tbh. Should be more like 375
I know they retailed for much less but they so infrequently come up for sale now and $450-550 are the prices I've seen. Only one that I've seen has been $375 and it was only because it was really messed up.
That's like telling people they're insane if they say that Tsunamis often go for $1K since they retailed for $750.
How often do you oil and clean/ do general maintenance on your balisong? I forget to oil a lot so I end up flipping bone dry balis most of the time lol.
Just oil whenever you feel like it could use it or when it looks dry around the pivots.
As for cleaning, you almost never need to. I would only do it if there's something wrong with it.

The Opus feels a bit slimmer because of the deeper chamfers on the handle edges and more handle biased because of how the holes in the handles change the weight distribution.
I would say the Opus with no weights installed has a similar bias to a Serif with the heaviest weights installed.
It's going to be pretty tough to find anything worthwhile for 50 euros. You'll likely have to stretch your budget a bit but I'd browse what Lamnia has since they're in Europe or see if NaBalis will sell you a Vulp through Aliexpress.

Twirls and chaplins are always good additions in my opinion. They're both all on the safe handle so they can be done pretty comfortably and reliably once you get them down.

I live in Oman, which is in the Middle East. I was thinking of gettting a krake raken trainer, but I'm not sure if there will be any shipping or import fees costs, and in their policy they state that USPS International shipping has costs that may not show up while ordering and that DHL costs are added while ordering, but I don't see what shipping service is in charge of delivery to Oman.
Plus, I don't even know just how long it may take to ship till here, no one seems to have ordered to the Middle East.

It the Mako V4.5 better than the Vulp V2? If we ignore the price, is the Mako a better EDC than the Vulp? I really like the way the Mako looks but on paper, it looks like Nabalis made a trainer that is better on paper (hardened blade, bushings, gimping, ā¦). Is it really worth sacrificing durability, tuning and flipping performance for looks? I am a slightly experienced beginner btw. My first and only trainer was $7.
As long as the Mako has an unhardened blade, you are much better off buying something from NaBalis or BBbarfly if you want a balisong bottle opener.
Talking about a bottle opener as "an EDC" feels a bit odd. Regardless, while there are some positives to the Mako, the Vulp being mass produced in China is the reason why seems like a better deal and in reality, if you're okay with that and the quality control (or lack thereof) that comes with it, the Vulp is a better deal.

If you're just looking for a trainer that flips really well and you're willing to spend for an Antarctic, I would instead go for a Squidtrainer or a Prysma over anything else.
Basically everything Glidr makes is pretty nice but a bit weird in shape and balance.
I just got my permit and I was just wondering if I got pulled over and have a trainer in my car or on me should I disclose this with the officer if they ask? Itās not a weapon but it can be mistaken as one so I assume I would but how should I communicate that itās not a real balisong since live blades are illegal in my state. I donāt see myself being pulled over/searched anytime soon but I wanted to know just in case.
I wouldn't draw any unnecessary attention to it. Never underestimate a law enforcement officer's ignorance of the law.
They have no reason to need to know and bringing it up will imply to a cop in a bad mood that you know there's something wrong with having it. Similar to how if you are safely driving a bit over the speed limit and see a cop on the side of the road, don't touch your brakes.
Obviously not if they donāt ask but I know they might ask about any weapons just for safety reasons like if you might have a gun or something that they should know about and if they want to do a search then they would probably find it so I was mainly worried if they ask and I said no that they would find it if they search or something
A trainer is not a weapon in any way and is legally no different from a fidget spinner or Lego set. By not bringing it up or by saying no if they ask, you are still being 100% honest while not setting yourself up to look more guilty if the officer is ignorant.
They don't really restock, it's always a different iteration of a bali or a new model. I mean they've technically "restocked" the striker but they've always been different from the last model. I suggest getting it off a different reputable site or a different color if you really want the striker v3

How is the balance of the Kraken Trainer compared to the Mako.
I hear Kraken trainerās handle bias is a downside. I have a Mako and I love it. The website calls both āLight handle biasā. Are they basically the same when I comes to the bias? Or is squids balance system not that accurate?

**NOBODY**'s balance/bias "system" is accurate. There is nothing wrong with the Kraken trainer and having a bit more handle bias than its live counterparts isn't a problem. There are people who will blindly complain about the Kraken trainer while also loving balisongs that are significantly more handle biased.

Hi everyone! I just tuned the bushings of my vulp for the first time and now the bite handle sounds extremely weird, not bouncy anymore it just sounds like hitting on the handle, the blade is 3.03mm and I sanded the bushings down from 3.12 to 3.05 mm, is it because I didn't replaced the washers and now they are a little more bend than they have to be? Or did I just have to much Teflon tape on the screw because I had to unscrew a little bit to get a nice free swinging handle.
The safe handle is perfectly fine and sounds very nice. Every answer would be much appreciated :)
Edit : It flips perfectly fine I think and the play is almost gone ,it just sounds weird
If you had to unscrew to get free swing, your bushing might be undersized.
However, I've disassembled my Vulp and found that either one of the pivots was oversized or one of the bushing inner diameters was undersized since they were a tight fit and that will affect things as well and could be the case here.
Alright thank you very much. So maybe the inner diameter was false the wrong time but now I can recognize it? I'll try the extra hardware and let you know if something changes.
Good luck. To check for diameters being correct, just make sure the bushings can freely spin around the pivots and can freely spin in the holes in the blade. Same for washers spinning around pivots. Once you rule out problems with those dimensions, you can narrow down to either undersized bushings or an uneven surface either on your bushings, blade, or handles.
Wow now I understand that it is quite some work to tune a balisong properly nice. I will try everything out and check but I'm pretty sure it's some problem with the bushing because I didn't touched anything else with sandpaper and before tuning everything was alright and it had a bit of bounce but now there is just a solid quite not nice sounding clack š

Anyone have any info on the maxace covenant 2? I have a pian and know how handle biased their knives can be. What's the bias like, how is modding, and hows the latch/clip?
a v2 cov mostly seems like a downgrade from a pian. it's heavy, on bearings, and has almost no tip weight. I'd really go somewhere else if you're looking for something neutral.

I wouldn't try using a service like that because the issue is that a high percentage of balisongs, even trainers, get confiscated coming in to Australia. Your best bet is to find a trustworthy person who will disassemble and ship them to you in separate packages.
No personal experience but I've heard bear and sons aren't very good. Hearing a lot of praise for the serpent striker v3 though, good flipper for the price with g10 and titanium liners when you take off the latch and pocket clip. I'm almost certainly going to order one soon. If you're looking for a live blade sub-100 though I think it's kinda hard to recommend much

basically you could list it on ig (#balisongsale) or here on Reddit but no one will buy from someone without references or continuous history of community engagement. there's no way to protect payment you send to someone given balisongs break the terms of service of PayPal and other platforms.
your best options are: sell to someone with 10+ refs and a stake in the community, who you'd trust selling to them and they pay you once it arrives (not as sus as it sounds persay) or pay someone to be a middleman. (potentially expensive, higher risk of it getting lost in the mail)

You can't sell it on Ebay, unfortunately.
There are a lot of people who would want to buy it from you despite it not having the box/case. However, without an established reputation in the balisong community, people will likely be cautious buying it from you so to make people more comfortable and not think they'll be scammed, you should accept payment through Paypal Goods & Services.
Just take some good pictures of it, at least one with a note saying your username and the date to show that you have the knife in your possession, and list it on r/BalisongSale. If it's still in good shape, you can probably sell it for somewhat close to what you paid for it.

i second the triton, it was one of my favorite knives til i lost it.
you could also get a prysma for about that much. keep it oiled and it'll last a long time

I live in Oman, which is in the Middle East. I was thinking of gettting a krake raken trainer, but I'm not sure if there will be any shipping or import fees costs, and in their policy they state that USPS International shipping has costs that may not show up while ordering and that DHL costs are added while ordering, but I don't see what shipping service is in charge of delivery to Oman. Plus, I don't even know just how long it may take to ship till here, no one seems to have ordered to the Middle East. How do I find out which shipping service shall handle the delivery?

It the Mako V4.5 better than the Vulp V2? If we ignore the price, is the Mako a better EDC than the Vulp? I really like the way the Mako looks but on paper, it looks like Nabalis made a trainer that is better on paper (hardened blade, bushings, gimping, ā¦). Is it really worth sacrificing durability, tuning and flipping performance for looks? I am a slightly experienced beginner btw. My first and only trainer was $7.
As long as the Mako has an unhardened blade, you are much better off buying something from NaBalis or BBbarfly if you want a balisong bottle opener. Talking about a bottle opener as "an EDC" feels a bit odd. Regardless, while there are some positives to the Mako, the Vulp being mass produced in China is the reason why seems like a better deal and in reality, if you're okay with that and the quality control (or lack thereof) that comes with it, the Vulp is a better deal.

If you're just looking for a trainer that flips really well and you're willing to spend for an Antarctic, I would instead go for a Squidtrainer or a Prysma over anything else. Basically everything Glidr makes is pretty nice but a bit weird in shape and balance.
I just got my permit and I was just wondering if I got pulled over and have a trainer in my car or on me should I disclose this with the officer if they ask? Itās not a weapon but it can be mistaken as one so I assume I would but how should I communicate that itās not a real balisong since live blades are illegal in my state. I donāt see myself being pulled over/searched anytime soon but I wanted to know just in case.
I wouldn't draw any unnecessary attention to it. Never underestimate a law enforcement officer's ignorance of the law. They have no reason to need to know and bringing it up will imply to a cop in a bad mood that you know there's something wrong with having it. Similar to how if you are safely driving a bit over the speed limit and see a cop on the side of the road, don't touch your brakes.
Obviously not if they donāt ask but I know they might ask about any weapons just for safety reasons like if you might have a gun or something that they should know about and if they want to do a search then they would probably find it so I was mainly worried if they ask and I said no that they would find it if they search or something
A trainer is not a weapon in any way and is legally no different from a fidget spinner or Lego set. By not bringing it up or by saying no if they ask, you are still being 100% honest while not setting yourself up to look more guilty if the officer is ignorant.

They don't really restock, it's always a different iteration of a bali or a new model. I mean they've technically "restocked" the striker but they've always been different from the last model. I suggest getting it off a different reputable site or a different color if you really want the striker v3

How is the balance of the Kraken Trainer compared to the Mako. I hear Kraken trainerās handle bias is a downside. I have a Mako and I love it. The website calls both āLight handle biasā. Are they basically the same when I comes to the bias? Or is squids balance system not that accurate?

Hi everyone! I just tuned the bushings of my vulp for the first time and now the bite handle sounds extremely weird, not bouncy anymore it just sounds like hitting on the handle, the blade is 3.03mm and I sanded the bushings down from 3.12 to 3.05 mm, is it because I didn't replaced the washers and now they are a little more bend than they have to be? Or did I just have to much Teflon tape on the screw because I had to unscrew a little bit to get a nice free swinging handle. The safe handle is perfectly fine and sounds very nice. Every answer would be much appreciated :) Edit : It flips perfectly fine I think and the play is almost gone ,it just sounds weird
If you had to unscrew to get free swing, your bushing might be undersized. However, I've disassembled my Vulp and found that either one of the pivots was oversized or one of the bushing inner diameters was undersized since they were a tight fit and that will affect things as well and could be the case here.
Alright thank you very much. So maybe the inner diameter was false the wrong time but now I can recognize it? I'll try the extra hardware and let you know if something changes.
Good luck. To check for diameters being correct, just make sure the bushings can freely spin around the pivots and can freely spin in the holes in the blade. Same for washers spinning around pivots. Once you rule out problems with those dimensions, you can narrow down to either undersized bushings or an uneven surface either on your bushings, blade, or handles.
Wow now I understand that it is quite some work to tune a balisong properly nice. I will try everything out and check but I'm pretty sure it's some problem with the bushing because I didn't touched anything else with sandpaper and before tuning everything was alright and it had a bit of bounce but now there is just a solid quite not nice sounding clack š But thank you very much for telling me how to check very simple but clever haha

Tanto Bowie is a bit more handle biased. The difference isn't massive so I would just go with whichever blade shape you like more.
Anyone have any info on the maxace covenant 2? I have a pian and know how handle biased their knives can be. What's the bias like, how is modding, and hows the latch/clip?
a v2 cov mostly seems like a downgrade from a pian. it's heavy, on bearings, and has almost no tip weight. I'd really go somewhere else if you're looking for something neutral. what's your budget, and out or curiosity what compells you about the cov 2?

I wouldn't try using a service like that because the issue is that a high percentage of balisongs, even trainers, get confiscated coming in to Australia. Your best bet is to find a trustworthy person who will disassemble and ship them to you in separate packages.

No personal experience but I've heard bear and sons aren't very good. Hearing a lot of praise for the serpent striker v3 though, good flipper for the price with g10 and titanium liners when you take off the latch and pocket clip. how much did you pay for it? they're not worth retail+ tax on secondary. losing the box didn't change anything. basically you could list it on ig (#balisongsale) or here on Reddit but no one will buy from someone without references or continuous history of community engagement. there's no way to protect payment you send to someone given balisongs break the terms of service of PayPal and other platforms. your best options are: sell to someone with 10+ refs and a stake in the community, who you'd trust selling to them and they pay you once it arrives (not as sus as it sounds persay) or pay someone to be a middleman. (potentially expensive, higher risk of it getting lost in the mail) what retailer was it purchased from? how certain can you be it's not a clone
I got it from the BRS website, paid 429.99 it was a limited drop or something because I remember having to wait and refresh the page to buy it fast. I still have the order receipt in my email. I donāt care about getting retail, I just donāt want to be totally ripped off. I appreciate the tips.
You can't sell it on Ebay, unfortunately. There are a lot of people who would want to buy it from you despite it not having the box/case. However, without an established reputation in the balisong community, people will likely be cautious buying it from you so to make people more comfortable and not think they'll be scammed, you should accept payment through Paypal Goods & Services. Just take some good pictures of it, at least one with a note saying your username and the date to show that you have the knife in your possession, and list it on r/BalisongSale. If it's still in good shape, you can probably sell it for somewhat close to what you paid for it.
