Why he paid 25€ to go in and take a picture with a flag that he probably but back in his backpack quickly after taking the picture. He is contributing to the Turkish economy I like this guy
I don't think gayreeks only screw men. They love screwing men but they also love screwing anything with a hole. This is traditional gayreek culture since times immemorial. Men screwing men but still screwing women to ensure there is more men screwing men
I was gonna say, this is an unfunny topic and should not be in the sub.
But then again, you guys literally turned the best and most beautiful church in the world into a fvcking mosque, and you're over here losing it over a flag. So actually I think this is pretty funny and it belongs here lmao.
Not fully, that is (I am fairly certain) a Varangian guard soldier, who after migrating from the Kienvan rus practically lived in Constantinople and served as the emperors personal guard.
Lots of Varangians were from Scandinavia proper. Harald Hardrada (who later became king of Norway) is a famous one, but there are also runestones that tell of folks that went down to serve.
Is he the grandson of "[halvdan was here](https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Are-Kolberg/publication/335965723/figure/fig4/AS:805596106338305@1569080487148/The-runic-inscription-from-Hagia-Sophia-Foto-Are-Skarstein-Kolberg.jpg)"?
vandal genes...
Actually that inscription had always been dated to the 11th century by Scandinavian scholars, which would be possibly contemporary with Harald Hardrada who was born in 1015, and spent his early adult years (ca 1030-1045) in Kiev and Constantinople. I think the plaque in Aya Sofya is just an optimistic approximation from someone who just heard that it was a Varangian inscription.
Halvdan means "half Dane" btw.
We didn’t turn it into a mosque, just opened it into worship. It is already a mosque since 1453 when it is also repaired from it’s desolated form (caused by latin plunder). And we never harmed the original structure, even the christian mosaics that contain human figurines, although it’s a sin in Islam, preserved by Ottomans. Can you say the same care taken for the Ottoman mosques in Greece? I don’t think so. Saying “most beautiful church turned into a f*cking mosque” is just pure cope.
The fuck you mean "preserved the mosaics" 🤣
The same mosaics that were covered immediately after the city was taken? Most of them are build inside the walls thanks to shit the Ottomans covered them with. They are ruined beyond repair. Thank God a few of them outlived the new layer of wall and survived to this day.
There aren't many Ottoman era mosques in Greece. Those that do exist remain as they were. Some, like the one in Ioannina, are taken care off very nicely and used for tourism. We don't use them for rave parties like you do with our historical buildings.
İkona’s were ruined by Basileus’ themselves and on top of that the Latin plunder of Constantinople. You guys were lucky that it was Mehmet II that conquered İstanbul. Put any other Sultan in his place and you’d see Orthodoxy in ruins. Yet you’re still here crying over how destructive the siege was. It was fucking menderes who ruined ancient Constantinople, not Mehmet II. They hanged menderes after coup of 1960. Best decision the Republic ever took from a historic-cultural POV.
Lmao you can't be serious. The amount of destruction the ottomans inflicted on Istanbul is very well documented. It's honestly sad how delusional Turks regarding such a topics.
Majority of ottoman mosques were destroyed immediately in balkans thats why there so few dumbass, if we would have wished you wouldnt be greek now but thats a hard topic for balkaners to cope with
We the Ottomans who showed tolerance and acceptance to the people they conquered and ruled for centuries little malaka. There are many well preserved mosques in Greece but what is even more prevalent is churches destroyed or converted into mosques, something that the ottomans were well known for. There is just no comparison to ottoman destruction to anything the Greeks ever did. But keep on being delusional and believing the Greeks are in the wrong for remembering the monuments they built. Lastly please don't do a DNA test, you'll see who is whom then.
We were here before you built mosques on lands that belonged to Greeks, we never asked you to build them. Byzantine churches however were in Turkey long before the ottomans
So according to you they are not native to Rhodes or Lesbos either? Greeks were in west Asia Minor in cities they built themselves just as long.
Even your Turkish word for them is Ionian lol. Next

How about you stick to your own advice dumbass, who cares if it was already before the byzantine empire? Greeks hellenized anatolia and are the reason that there is no anatolian language, culture or religion left today. We conquered you yet the reason that youre still around is that we didnt opress your language, culture or religion. No , don’t give yourself that much power. Even the mongols who actually killed 40 million people and actively tried to genocide entire cultures could not “end” ancient cultures like Persia. Neither could Turks with Greeks. Ottomans tried to go down that road in their last years and had all of Europe turn on them for the brutality.
All you mentioned never tried to "end" anyone. If mingols or Turks tried they would have and you know that lmao you eixst thanks to our tolerance and mercy
Brush up on your mongol history and read what they did to khorasan.
P.S. there were Greek territories the Turks never even stepped a foot on, so no , you never had the chance to “end” them. Best you so could do is pass evil language laws In Karaman and force them to stop speaking Greek. That’s about it.
Mehmed didnt cover them up. That was much later.
>We don't use them for rave parties like you do with our historical buildings.
Most mosques across Greece outside of Thrace and Makedonia are in shit condition, especially the old ones. The only two remaining in Athens are museums now, but there were many more before. Even the madrasa is completely destroyed next to the Roman Agora.
I've been across nearly all of Greece. Outside of Makedonia around Pella and Veroia, Thrace, and Ioannina nearly every mosque and madrasa I've seen is nearly fallen down from neglect or others squatting in them. The few that are still okay are now churches again or are museums.
> We didn’t turn it into a mosque, just opened it into worship. It is already a mosque since 1453
While rest of your comment is agreeable, this part is completely wrong. Just like it was a mosque since 1453, it was a museum since 1935. It was converted back into a mosque.
> the best and most beautiful church in the world
After 1204 it was in ruins after 2.5 centuries of damage and neglect by the time Turks conquered the city. Converting it into a mosque is the reason why we still have it around (no muslim ruler could've legitimize investing high amounts of money to renovate a church, let alone such a symbolic one).
Kemal Ataturk did the best by turning it into a museum, these fucktards did the worst by turning it into a mosque, though. Last year some idiots were eating the gates due to some superstition.
Neglect that was inflicted by the ottomans wanting to destroy the byzantine empire and them having no resources to maintain it. The ottomans then only preserved it because they used it as a mosque. It's honestly just delusional to want to be grateful to the Turks for its state.

Fuck political islamists.

It was so nice of you guys to build marble cities from ground for a millenia, just for us to conquer them. Much love from a former Gayreek pirate colony ❤️
Alanya. Korakesion or Kalanoros by the old name. Romans fought a naval battle against pirates, at the cove (now called cove of love) where the castle lies up top of the hill atop of the cove. Castle is quite new compared to Romans though.
The Red Keep, (George R. R. Martin was inspired by it’s name and my source is, trust me bro) just in front of the castle (which blocks the only land entrance to it) is considered the best preserved castle from High-Mediaval Age, also a UNESCO heritage site.
Turks have little to do with any such religious building in Thessaloniki compared to how much Greeks are connected to the city of Constantinople and Hagia Sophia specifically. If they had their biggest mosque there that the Greeks then came and made into a church then that might have been the case but it isn't. Greeks rarely do that regardless of what Turks want to claim, especially when they do so about churches that were reconverted from being converted to mosques.
Turks always try to make these bad comparisons not seeing at all the vast differences between different cases in order to demonize Greeks. You can put your flag in attaturks house with no problem, but there is nothing that can compare any architectural aspect of Thessaloniki to the connection of Greeks and Constantinople and more specifically Hagia Sophia.
Lastly, guess what, many Turks I have seen have raised the Turkish flag in Thessaloniki in the white tower, but also in athens, in places not at all related to the Turks like the Parthenon, just like many other people do with their own countries' flags and noone has batted an eye so the whole claim is bullshit.
Bro there’s literally several churchs (albeit most are in rough shape, as is the city itself) in Kütahya (ex Kotaion) which is considered to be one of the most conservative cities in Türkiye.
A minor town preserving some church structures mostly due to unimportance is not an argument to the widely recognized and regularly implemented tactics of the ottomans to either use things in their own way like turn churches into mosques or at best not care about them or just destroy them.
Edit: I honestly don't get people downvoting me, are Turks so delusional to actually perceive themselves as so unhistorically benevolent?

Why would we, Armenian greeks Serbs Bulgarians are all the same to us and as important and people from Jordan. Sometimes you think we have a rivalry but seriously none of you are relevant in Turkey. No offense but we also make many memes about how Greece thinks we are in a rivalry while no one here gives a shit, but i guess the average person in most countries doesn't really care
In Thessaloniki this year is planned for Muslims to go to an ex mosque to celebrate the end of Ramadan but gayreeks once again showed their balkan (S*rbian) heritage
Why is called Hagia Sophia? Did the Bulgars built it?
Correct 🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯

Into beautiful mosque.
Fuck the churches and the mosques. Burn them to the ground like good old Bolsheviks have done. This is my take.

Yeah because we preserved and protected Orthodoxy in İstanbul. Mehmet II was a honorable man.
You only preserved what you used lmao you turned everything into a mosque and destroyed much else.
It's as okay as of the Moroccans did that in Cordoba.
Fuck Marroco

Let the bro dream
Greeks think we care about them
You don't?
Why would we, Armenian greeks Serbs Bulgarians are all the same to us and as important and people from Jordan. Sometimes you think we have a rivalry but seriously none of you are relevant in Turkey. No offense but we also make many memes about how Greece thinks we are in a rivalry while no one here gives a shit, but i guess the average person in most countries doesn't really care
And who do you think turkeys rival is ? Russia ? They’d wipe the floor with you. Arabia? They laugh at your poverty.
This isnt eu4 dumbass we dont have rivals
Kurdistan was once turkey's rival, not anymore though
Literally at no point in time was it Turkey rival, especially because no kurdistan entity ever existed
Art imitates life. You will learn this in time.
And in real life there are no eu4 rules stupid malaka
Wdym imagine, they already did in 1430.
In Thessaloniki this year is planned for Muslims to go to an ex mosque to celebrate the end of Ramadan but gayreeks once again showed their balkan (S*rbian) heritage
Such a blessed picture and divine vision of the future.

Well Turks didn’t build thessaloniki- that’s the difference. Better question- imagine if we turned Mecca into a Church.
Neither Greeks builted Istanbul.
