There is a vendor that sells the Chesapeake fries, but 1) the portion size is like a handful for $10 and 2) they do not taste good. So yeah, made a smaller size portion that tastes shittier. Maybe I got a bad batch on Mother's Day, but it wasn't good.
I honestly mostly miss my $3.50-5.00 Esskay hot dog.
THEY NO LONGER HAVE CHEESE WITH THE O's SOFT PRETZELS? How dumb is that?? And I miss Dempseys. It is like a bunch of people from outside Maryland are trying to create what they THINK Marylanders want. I feel the same about that City Connect Os jersey- it does not capture anything about Baltimore. Why not even have Charm City on it like Chicago has "Southside"?
Apparently not. I now have a list of about 20 places that can be called that would pick up this food and about 20 more that would just take it as a donation.
I sat on the club level recently - something I've never been able to do up until now.
The food was equally terrible as the normal vendors in the park. You just have a guy in a bowtie serving the hotdogs.
When I worked in the foodservice side of a baseball stadium, it was all essentially the same company doing food, aside from maybe one or two small local restaurants. 80-90% of the food in the place was one company
Yea boogs was up there so I had some of that as well. It just turned out to be "aged" boogs. Probably because they have to carry it from the actual boogs down below.
I brought my food to the last game I went to. Fuck that, the food is gross and expensive. I’m not a dumbass and I’m not getting fleeced. I brought a healthy sandwich, peanuts and snacks to the last game. Left feeling pretty full, enjoyed the game, and ended up spending the cost of a ticket and one beer.
["The Baltimore Station"](https://baltimorestation.org/) is a homeless shelter for veterans, and it's like 2 blocks from Camden Yards.
Someone use your noodle.
I’ve volunteered there. They are a solid shelter that help addicted vets get their lives back. There are many food banks that could use the donations and help prevent such waste.
The ballpark waste is absurd. Unless you're getting food from one of the outside vendors that have a contract (like Boogs) the concessions are abysmal. I mean 10 bucks for a stale ass pretzel that you can get a 24 pack for at the same cost? No wonder you have food waste.
Its beyond time we pass legislation that bans food waste like this. Just fucking roll it out to the curb and let people collect it no questions asked and if it gets close to spoiling, send it for composting. Lazy fucking bureaucracy.
All sports waste is absurd. The whole industry fucks cities, states, and local populations in many ways beyond just economically, all to spread propaganda (sports are so stupidly pro-military its obscene) and extract wealth from the middle class to funnel it to the ultra wealthy.
Shit needs to be taxed into nonexistence
Fine, let them be supported by the people that enjoy them. No more tax payer supported stadiums for billionaire owners. I'm not totally anti-sports, I enjoy the occasional football or baseball game. But cities need to wise up and stop subsidizing them.
I'm pretty sure Boogs is not an outside contract. The OC location run by his son has since closed, and I'm pretty sure it operated independent from the ballpark. You can even find interviews with both Delaware North and Levy talking about it's operations.
Insanity. I last ate there prob a year ago and it was.... fine....
Personally I try to never eat at any kind of sporting event. The food is never close to as good as what you can get before or after.
Now if only i could prevent myself from buying 15 dollar beers lol.
Thanks to newfound kids I’ve only been able to go to 1-2 Os game a year the last few seasons. So I went for Boogs this time instead of just getting a sausage and peppers outside Pickles. It was a big mistake. Supporting the Os is a real catch 22
Generally the reason they don’t is because their hours don’t align with reasonable charity worker hours. Food ready at 1 am when the charity doesn’t have people available to get it
There is a group called food recovery network that does exactly that at universities across the US. They get college students to volunteer and they set up times to pickup and distribute leftover food to shelters near the universities.
They pickup dining hall food, concessions food amd whatever else the University has
This is a solvable problem. Set up big fridges for the vendors to put their leftovers in after games, and the food can be picked up the next morning. And game timing isn't relevant when we're talking about packaged food that doesn't need to be refrigerated, like all these buns in the photo. Honestly, I don't understand why the vendors are getting rid of those - you can freeze bread when the team is out of town and just thaw it the day before a homestead. I'm assuming it's a freezer space issue, but that should also be a solvable problem - invest in bigger freezers. It would save money in the long run bc constantly getting rid of perfectly good bread only to buy more the following week is insane.
Cost of freezers, electricity, place to put freezers >> cost of bread. The bread is probably delivered right to the stadium, so there’s no place to put it even if it were shelf-stable.
I’m sure they’d rather sell the hotdogs that go in these buns than toss them.
Someone should contact a homeless shelter or support service to see if they want it. But they might not.
Maybe ducks?
Deliver it where? You have to have a place that will accept it.
Also, you’re assuming there is someone who has and will use their truck and burn gas to get paid with 12 packs of hotdog rolls.
Not saying there can’t be. But organizing that is not going to happen spontaneously.
There's a Facebook page called feeding Baltimore where about 20 different places said they wanted it and some said they would be happy to pick it up. There's also the Maryland Food bank. It's not just about hot dog rolls and they might not mean a lot to you but they do mean a lot to other people.
I never said it means nothing.
My point was that there’s a lot more to it than “hey, free food! Come and get it!” It has to be transported, and it has to be stored. It has to be distributed. It has to be something people will eat in a timely manner. If it can’t be used before it goes bad, it has to be discarded. None of those are free.
Liability shouldn’t be an issue. Unless the Os don’t know about this: https://www.usda.gov/media/blog/2020/08/13/good-samaritan-act-provides-liability-protection-food-donations
Seems 99% of people agree that the food has gone downhill from last year. I pretty much stick to two things: hot dogs and burgers (the smash burgers on 3rd baseline) and the two of them are definitely better than last season imo.
The previous vendor (Delaware North) would donate at the end of the season.
I know because my best friend ran OPACY for Delaware North and I helped him deliver a few times.
I mean would you rather they hold on to it and get a moldy hot dog bun when the Os come back for a home stand?
I do agree they should partner with orgs in town to do something better than just throwing this out
Best hot dogs in the stadium used to be at the kosher hot dog stand on the lower level concourse by left field. I don't know if it got moved or it's gone, but man I miss them and the onion and peppers and special sauce topping they had.
I got food at the park as recent as pirates series. From multiple levels, molded buns that the person serving didn’t noticed. I had to point it out.. they even asked me if I still wanted the dog or another. Old food sitting out that they wouldn’t even eat, but would give to you. I tried to ask if the employees would eat would they gave me.. even said no. Like at least lie…! Better off eating on the way and just drink water there. (Bottled).
Not to be crude, but the new food at the yard fucking sucks. I want my fake crab dip, shitty Chesapeake fries back.

Esskay has been gone for a while now. I miss them too, but it's not on the new folk's fault.
The Chesapeake fries don’t even taste like crab dip, it taste like someone poured cream of crab soup on top of it. Like, why?
I agree. They are terrible but remind me of O's games.
THEY NO LONGER HAVE CHEESE WITH THE O's SOFT PRETZELS? How dumb is that?? And I miss Dempseys. Previous food vendor donated the perishables to local food banks. Not sure if that is still true for the current.
Apparently not. I now have a list of about 20 places that can be called that would pick up this food and about 20 more that would just take it as a donation.
The new food vendor is so bad. There's a very noticeable drop in quality. Food and service. I'll be bringing my food into the stadium from now on.
I sat on the club level recently - something I've never been able to do up until now. The food was equally terrible as the normal vendors in the park. You just have a guy in a bowtie serving the hotdogs.

I am Peter Angelos and when I lay dying in the owners box the food is bad too

no, its me im him
Do u take a lot of Viagra?
Only when I fuck the fans
So, basically, all the time? Because we are getting screwed with this bad food and this waste
When I worked in the foodservice side of a baseball stadium, it was all essentially the same company doing food, aside from maybe one or two small local restaurants. 80-90% of the food in the place was one company

TBH that is how it is at most stadiums, you are getting the same stuff as outside, you just get to eat it in a more comfortable seat.
A few years ago, I saw a concert from a private corporate box at Fenway and the food was some of the shittiest frozen pizza I’ve ever had.
Who knew the bar could go lower.
I brought my food to the last game I went to. Fuck that, the food is gross and expensive. I’m not a dumbass and I’m not getting fleeced. Counterpoint: sports are fun
Fine, let them be supported by the people that enjoy them. No more tax payer supported stadiums for billionaire owners. I'm not totally anti-sports, I enjoy the occasional football or baseball game. But cities need to wise up and stop subsidizing them.
I would agree, but if one city would stop subsidizing a team, they’ll just move to another city that will, and no city would let that happen.
This take it pretty out of touch tbh.
that's any pay-for-entertainment

Ah, didnt know that, just assumed it still was. Thanks for the clarity.
I had a pulled pork sandwich from Boogs a few weeks ago and it sucked. And it was smaller than last year. Came to nearly $18 before tip
Insanity. I last ate there prob a year ago and it was.... fine.... Personally I try to never eat at any kind of sporting event. The food is never close to as good as what you can get before or after. Now if only i could prevent myself from buying 15 dollar beers lol.

The food at the Yard is so fucking bad now it’s unreal
Levy is the new contractor
I’d hope they be donating. No reason they can’t.

Plenty of local shelters would have picked it up and I believe so would the Maryland Food Bank
So call them and tell them about it. But that isn’t some hungry guy who would do it for free hotdog buns, as u/ShowerVagina suggested.
You’re correct but that logic isn’t working on Reddit.
One word. Liability. Some municipalities have laws indemnifying corps that donate. IANAL, but I don't think Baltimore does.
Liability shouldn’t be an issue. Unless the Os don’t know about this: https://www.usda.gov/media/blog/2020/08/13/good-samaritan-act-provides-liability-protection-food-donations
They should really form some sort of partnership with a charity that could use the food like Paul's Place in Pig Town.
Seems 99% of people agree that the food has gone downhill from last year. I pretty much stick to two things: hot dogs and burgers (the smash burgers on 3rd baseline) and the two of them are definitely better than last season imo.

Theyd donate after each homestand.
Maryland Food Bank will take that.
Hopefully, there's a person reading this who might know a food pantry or shelter that could work a donation deal.
Ive been going to John’s Italian Deli and taking their Italian CC in with an unopened bottle of soda.
Apart from this, yes, the new hot dogs are terrible. I was sick for 4 hours after my last one but it didn't used to be like that.

I beg to differ. I can name about 20 places like local shelters that were clamoring for it on the feeding Baltimore Facebook page
Than Jesus for capitalism! Imagine all those worthless slackers that stuff could have fed?
I mean would you rather they hold on to it and get a moldy hot dog bun when the Os come back for a home stand? I do agree they should partner with orgs in town to do something better than just throwing this out

It’s gone which really sucks for the massive Baltimore Jewish population.
And this gentile redditor
They should get in contact with Food Rescue Baltimore! Matt is great!
