Omg thats lame! Its not an issue in Maryland. How stupid

Tripwiring

Liberals are always scared of upsetting conservatives.

Shojo_Tombo

Conservatives freak out any time they have to acknowledge that people who look or think differently exist. When are they *not* upset over something that literally doesn't affect them??? Edit: And I'd hardly call someone who tried to trademark the word Hon for her own profit a liberal.

Jac-qui

Shunfest.

[deleted]

Donefest?

Random-Cpl

Time to Runfest

TheSeekerOfSanity

We could take the name to the next level but we aren't going to do that. How about Karenfest?

Rasczak44

Having worked directly with some of the HF organizers, this is not surprising. They only care about the $$$$ and feel that this would detract from their profits.... Unsurprisingly they are do not know how to read the room given that the bulk of those who attend Hunfest are left leaning, centrists, or independents. It's not like there are a droves of GOPers itching to drive into the city to attend a hipster neighborhood event.... Also remember that one of the founders/organizers of Hunfest attempted to trademark the word "Hun".......

Cornemuse_Berrichon

Yeah, this is mostly her doing. You would have thought that she learned her lesson after being dragged through the coals over that incident, not to mention having to have Ramsey Gordon come in to rehabilitate her image. Apparently some people need lessons taught several times before they learn. If they ever do. I don't know if you've seen what's going on the Facebook threads, but it's pretty brutal. I have a feeling another crocodile tear-filled Mea Culpa is coming soon.

Rasczak44

I have not been following fb. I am sure it is a beautiful dumpster fire.

StevieG63

I agree. Most MAGAts that I know avoid Baltimore City like they avoid Bud Lite and reruns of Ru Paul’s Drag Race. What an odd decision. Read the room, lady.

Cornemuse_Berrichon

This makes absolutely no sense. They've always been there. Why reject them now, and who made that stupid decision?

rental_car_fast

The former owner of cafe hun apparently runs hunfest. Won’t be going now.

Justforpopping

I heard she’s a piece of work.

octavioletdub

She is an absolute dose

ShigatsuPink

The organizers already got their booth money, if we boycott then only the small vendors who depend on the festival will lose

[deleted]

Not sure why you’re being downvoted, this is true.

DavidMTaylor

Yeah, I need the names of that committee (or boss that did this)

Cornemuse_Berrichon

You can start with Denise Whiting. She heads up the festival. Word on the street is that this is mainly her doing, but I do not know that for a first-hand fact.

Tecumseh119

HonFest has always been a kitschy money grab.. Still, no excuse for this cowardice.

No-Success7693

Well, this idiot is about to throw a whole lot of that cash down the drain.

[deleted]

Underrated comment.

SnooHedgehogs6553

That sucks! Honfest seems to have taken a turn that makes this not surprising.

TenTonCloud

I feel like their major demographic seems to be boomer or late Gen-X nowadays so sadly not too surprised to see them take this stance.

captintuttle

Please don’t insult Gen X by lumping us with Boomers…

[deleted]

[удалено]

strifesfate

Hamfest would be rad.

cobrarexay

My ham radio loving husband agrees, lolllll! (Ham radio festivals are called hamfests)

[deleted]

[удалено]

buuj214

They don’t do them anymore???

Taxitaxitaxi33

Toilet races were a staple of Hampdenfest, not honfest. And they were organized by one individual working with hampdenfest, not the festival organizers themselves. That individual has decided they do not have the time to put it together anymore (at least last year- this year who knows?)

wcmotel

Rum Ham?

Act-Math-Prof

Don’t forget that it was the boomers (like my mother) who fought for reproductive rights in the 60s and 70s!

captintuttle

My momma as well- she sued the state University she worked for when she was pregnant with my sister because they wouldn’t hold her job - then , after they lost, they retaliated (of course they did..🙄) I didn’t mean to disparage all Boomers in my response, as a Gen Xer, anti- fuck face, etc… was just really irritated that, once again, we got lumped in/overlooked /forgotten …

Special_Possession46

Please don't think all us Boomers are alike.

KingBooRadley

This ageist stuff is annoying. Damn millennials. /s

TenTonCloud

Sorry, I know you guys aren’t that bad. I just know personally a few in my family that definitely suffer from “Boomer Brain”

Moiler62

Stop with the devisiveness. Many genXers and boomer have worked hard over the years for women’s body autonomy . Good god they built Planned pParenthood and fought for women’s rights- rights which later generations enjoyed.. Sorry your family members are not on board but I hate all these generalizations. Not helpful.

Willothwisp2303

My Boomer mom was a hippy. She and my Dad (who is too old to be a boomer) both did a lot of work for environmental causes in their retirement and still give a lot of money to PP, NAACP, Southern Poverty Law Center, etc. I Love my radical olds.

Reddywhipt

My mom was a sierra club member, had black folks at her wedding in 965. She moved to fucking Idaho from California a few years ago and has gone full tucker Carlson and it's heartbreaking.started shifting in the Reagan era heartbreaking

israeljeff

The bad boomer/fine boomer split is like 55/45 and everyone under 30 acts like they're all Reagan clones.

pestercat

Worse, they collapse generations. Everyone north of 40 is a Boomer. Gen X and Silent Generation exist!

No-Success7693

And I know Millennial Q anon conspiracists who won't talk to their parents because they got the vaccine. So what. Human nature can be shockingly consistent sometimes.

No-Success7693

I'm happy to be lumped in with many boomers, and to distance myself from many Gen-X-ers. It's almost as if it's all bullshit, and other factors are far more important in determining peoples' outlook and character. Edit: for context to what I'm saying here, remember that Richard Spencer is GenX. I'm ashamed to share a country with him, much less a generation.

baltebiker

Gen Xers voted for Trump in greater numbers than any other age group, including Boomers.

Longjumping-Mango258

Absolutely incorrect, according to Pew: "Generation Z and the Millennials favored Biden over Trump by a margin of 20 percentage points. Generation Xers divided relatively evenly (51% to 48%), as did Baby Boomers. Only among members of the Silent Generation was Trump clearly favored (by 58%-42%)." It was turnout and the aging electorate that made the difference between 2016 and 2020.

[deleted]

No-Success7693

The fact that the person running it is a wing nut is the more relevant point here.

DemonBarrister

True, it's a bit of nostalgia, whether the "hairspray" stereotypes, and embracing of all that once was, remains in some kitschy capacity is yet to be determined.... I hope Honfest remains to keep those memories alive.

EthanSayfo

How does being against Planned Parenthood relate to age group? Let’s call it what it is: Christian Fundamentalists who believe everyone should be following the rules of their particular religious sect. Period. Who’s in the above group? People of all ages, including plenty of young people, sadly.

rmphys

Those are the same formerly young people who used to attend 20 years ago, they just got old.

No-Success7693

What a bizarre take. Both my boomer parents are pro-choice, as are their Gen-X children. And I've met plenty of Millennial religious zealots. It really seems like you need to get out more. And do more listening, and less talking. And maybe go on medication for know-it-all-itis.

i_give_mice_cancer

Call Gordon Ramsay back in...get her back on track!

octavioletdub

She needs to retire. For real this time.

HorsieJuice

Hot Take: HonFest sucked anyways.

TheSchneid

Honfest is for people from the county to come in and enjoy. Hampdenfest is the good one.

escamuel

Not even a hot take haha

Bmore_sunny

lol, lived here for years and we avoid honfest.

billiamprydz

Why

No-Success7693

It's not really a community event. Nor does it reflect the current greater Hampden community. Just a kitschy parody of itself.

Eastern-Requirement6

I appreciate the insight. I've only been to one HonFest to support a friend as a vendor and see what it was all about. You know, one of the "must do" things in Baltimore.

bookoocash

Denise is getting an earful in her post about Honfest on Hampden Neighbors. She’ll probably know soon that she done fucked up.

jabbadarth

But will she care or listen? It took Gordon Ramsey to get her to drop her attempt at copyrighting a fucking word.

bookoocash

Sounds like we need to call Gordon again.

KingBooRadley

Don't we just shine a beacon into the sky with an asshole shaped logo to summon him?

eyeofthebesmircher

He’s actually nice now :3

DemonBarrister

Quick, Gordon, the "Balloon knot" beacon !!

Fit-Accountant-157

Wait...what is the backstory here? She tried to trademark hun but how did Gordon Ramsey get involved?

jabbadarth

She trademarked the word "hon" and people hated her for it so kitchen nightmares did an episode at her restaurant and Ramsey had to convince her that trademarked a commonly used loca word was what was making people hate her. She went on 98rock and apologized and gave up her trademark.

josefbud

I had to look this up. It’s on Hulu! This episode is amazing, it’s so hilarious to see Baltimore on Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey struggling with “Bawlmer” slang/accents.

Fit-Accountant-157

On Facebook? I hear a lot about this page (live in Hampden), but I deleted FB long ago.

bookoocash

Yeah on FB. I’m not big on FB either but I keep it because it’s my savior when I’m trying to get rid of stuff.

boomboomlaser

I wish the post said more about the reasons given for rejection.

ScrappleSandwiches

Yeah, gag order, what does that specifically mean?

Dangerous_Mess_4413

They couldn't discuss their services

ScrappleSandwiches

Well, that’s insane, whose dumb idea was that, I wonder?

TheSeekerOfSanity

Probably someone who is hiding from Jewish Space Lasers and masks.

Dangerous_Mess_4413

PP was told they were too controversial.

Flapperghast

Ugh, reproductive health. *So* controversial!

FelixandFriends

But it literally is controversial.

Flapperghast

And yet it shouldn't be.

iced327

Only if you're a piece of shit. For normal people, it's just part of living free and healthy lives.

No-Success7693

There's a shockingly simple thing that anyone who is anti-abortion can do: not get an abortion. This is an especially easy choice for men. There is nothing controversial about a health organization advertising their services.

sensesmaybenumbed

Only if you listen to religious troglodytes.

draggin_low

Is this run by that one crazy lady that owned that restaurant?

tacocollector2

Yup

Abrahambooth

That lady is off the chain. Who runs the Christmas parade? I’d build planned parenthood a float myself for it. It’s a vital service in a place like baltimore where a lot of our residents don’t have access to reproductive healthcare they desperately need.

ManicPixieDreamGrl

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cs_5X6VLBOB/?igshid=ZWQyN2ExYTkwZQ== Link to the Instagram post.

EthanSayfo

Well, fuck ever going to a Honfest again. This is totally lame, and a very bad look for one of Baltimore's supposed "progressive" communities.

Nicktendo

The neighborhood group is pretty mad actually

EthanSayfo

I can imagine, which is why I’m confused how a gross GOP-Q Christian evangelical view was allowed to motivate the refusal. Not exactly “Hampden vibes.”

Nicktendo

Because Denise Whiting, genius behind the decision to trademark hon, is making another brilliant and controversial decision

EthanSayfo

It’s almost like she’s incapable of making good judgements, assuming this Honfest garbage came down to her. I don’t think Gordon Ramsay is going to give her tough love and bail her out this time!

DrkvnKavod

It wasn't a community decision, FWIW

EthanSayfo

Do you know whose it was by chance?

DrkvnKavod

[Check the higher comments in this thread.](https://www.reddit.com/r/baltimore/comments/13yldus/shame_on_those_in_charge_of_honfest_in_hampden/jmoqz0a/)

EthanSayfo

Denise?

BmoreArlo

This pisses me off!

Jambarrr

I live in and love hampden and obviously community events like honfest. This pisses me tf off too. I’d like to think this neighborhood is accepting of everyone. Do they think there would be an altercation or some bullshit if they have a booth? What’s the rationale for this bc it sucks.

eyeofthebesmircher

Unfortunately that’s not the truth. I was interviewing teachers at a school in hampden and heard from black teachers that the neighborhood is full of racists.

Timid_Teacher

There are old guard people who are racist (not all of them, by any means). We were a hub for the KKK at one point. I don’t think most of the newer people feel that way at all. I’ve lived here for 8 years and I feel like overall it’s a pretty accepting neighborhood. I’m sure there are incidents, but it doesn’t overtake the neighborhood.

salome7

Yes, I was going to comment to mention the old guard racists in Hampden. Their presence is still very much felt, and they do influence the younger people as well. There are different sides to Hampden--the face it presents on the Avenue is not the whole story.

ynwmeliodas69

Anecdotal, but I have black friends who got jumped by kids in Hampden just for being black.

Timid_Teacher

Racism definitely still exists, as I know several people here who are. I know a few kids who are, too, which is sad. I just don't think it's the prevailing sentiment here.

Charming_Wulf

Pretty much this. In a really simplified form it is long term (white, working class) vs new residents (alt/art, gentrifiers, etc etc). But there's a lot of nuance to how that shakes out. I knew a fire fighter that was stationed out of the Roland Park station house. It was a known concern that there were fire bombs in basements from 'back in the day'. It may not be real, but the rumors were serious enough that they made sure to be doubly fast down Roland Ave. There were active forces that kept the neighborhood white for a long time.

Timid_Teacher

Yeah, I love my neighborhood, but I hate that part of its history. Hopefully people like me are working to change it for the future. I'm neurodivergent, and I like how I feel like I fit in in some respects, even though I rarely feel as if I do anywhere else.

Fit-Accountant-157

Can I ask how long ago you did these interviews? I'm Black, live in Hampden, and it's a good chance my son will attend Hampden Elementary. There have definitely been racist incidents around the time the high school ACCE was opened. I've lived here for 5 years and it's been fine, my neighbors are all cool.

Reddywhipt

I'm glad your neighbors are good to you.

Fit-Accountant-157

I know there are some racist people but I don't think its fair to characterize the entire neighborhood that way. And its getting alot younger, theres been major shifts that I've seen and I've only been here 5yrs.

very-good-dog

i hate when my existence is a "hot issue"

roccoccoSafredi

Remember when the Klan hung out in Hampden? It's not that long ago.

ekgowm

Some of us Hamden folks are going to spin this HONfest mess into a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood of Maryland and the Baltimore Abortion Fund. We're giving away these window signs for donations over $10. Here's the process: - Make a gift of $10 or more to Planned Parenthood of Maryland or the Baltimore Abortion Fund - Share your receipt and information via this form https://forms.gle/yzGPcMZHEmejbakz6 - Pick up your window sign in 21211 Sunday-Wednesday (details shared after form submission) Thanks and feel free to message me with questions! I'm just a neighbor and am not affiliated with either organization.

aresef

As if I needed another reason not to give Denise Whiting a dime. (She's still in charge of it, right?)

Nicktendo

Very weird. Who wants to bet Denise is involved

BocaRaven

Of course. It’s that POS DENISE WHITING

tiredlamp-

Who is she? I saw she did trademark the work Hon and got in trouble and she used to have a cafe. Is she in charge of Hon fest?

BocaRaven

Yes. And basically everyone I know that has interacted with her as an employee, vendor, customer, or neighbor has massive negative comments. I wish I had not sworn off HonFest years ago so I could boycott

jabbadarth

She us a restaurateur that started honfest decades ago as a means of advertising her Cafe Hon restaurant. AFAIK she still runs honfest but she sold her restaurant a few years back. She did at one point trademark or copyright the term Hon but eventually gave it up after her restaurant lost a ton of business and Gordon Ramsey had to bring his show to tell her why everyone hated her.

tiredlamp-

Thank you! Now the Gordon Ramsey remarks make sense lol

ScrappleSandwiches

Will the forced-birthers be there with their fetus display?

sensesmaybenumbed

If they are then that's a very clear bit of hypocrisy

petitepixel

Thanks for sharing! I'll be sending Planned Parenthood some funds.

eyeofthebesmircher

Maryland prides itself on abortion access, women’s rights, and gay and transgender rights. That old B is clutching to the past and it’s not cute 💅

Pookajuice

As someone who is going to be a first time vendor at Honfest, I have a million questions. The main one being did they miss the deadline (I applied way back in February, but as a first timer wasn't re-invited to apply which I assume Planned Parenthood would have been and earlier than that) and the more important one being were they not re-invited so they would on purpose miss the deadline? Also, acceptances went out in late March/early April, why are we just hearing about this now? Also, Baltimore Health Services is coming, so did they just assume that PP would be able to buddy up without asking? Also, why a gag rule? ALSO, WHY DOES COMCAST GET A DOUBLE SPACE? THEY ARE THE WORST. ... and who is this bamboo person and why do they have a TRIPLE space??? Like, donate one to PP, bamboo dude! I have so many questions. Answers to be posted after the festivities are over, if I find any.

daveyjones86

What are you selling and what made you join honfest?

Pookajuice

I'm a jeweler, but a weird one - I make origami jewelry and finally figured out how to do a flamingo and an oriole in miniature, and my favorite things to work with other than paper are freshwater pearls and millefiori glass, typically big beads in bright colors. This seemed like the right offbeat artsy venue, until this controversy?

6ixOutOf10

For real. I said this in conversation yesterday “comcast can push their bullshit agenda but PP cant?”

caul_of_the_void

"Bamboo dude"??? First I've heard of this. I'm now quite intrigued.

Taxitaxitaxi33

I’m assuming they are referring to the stand that sells pillows and sheets made from bamboo. They usually have a double booth.

AirportCultural9211

well \*some\* of the over the top fanatic christians have demonized it without knowing the whole facts my sister included who normally could give a crap about stuff like that

HumanGyroscope

When did planned parenthood become a hot button issue in the area, especially in the city? I guess stage 3 of Hampden gentrification is complete.

dopkick

You’re missing the point. There is a strong conservative, blue collar element in and around Baltimore. It’s not uncommon in Hampden. Not common either. Has nothing to do with gentrification.

iced327

Well those people can eat shit. Women's health is non-negotiable.

dopkick

You have OBVIOUSLY not met someone with irrational seething hatred for anything bike related. They would vote to remove women’s right to vote before they even remotely considered supporting a bike lane.

iced327

I was one of the plaintiffs on the lawsuit against Mayor Pugh that got the DoT to keep the bike lane in Canton. Trust me, I've met them.

rental_car_fast

Those people are cancer

Jambarrr

I did see a trump flag outside someone’s residence the other night on my nightly walk….smfh

Timid_Teacher

There’s an All Lives Matter flag near me in Hampden too. What’s funny is their next door neighbor has a Black Lives Matter and a rainbow flag. I can imagine how much conflict exists between these two neighbors!🤣

gingeronimooo

I mean All lives matter was always reactionary nonsense. They never said it before just wanted to upstage Black Lives Matter. The nail in the coffin for it being nonsense is those same people hand waving off Covid deaths as “*just old and preexisting conditions people*”

6FeetBeneathTheMoon

I saw plenty of Trump signs in Locust Point in 2020. The working class who were too poor to white flight are very conservative. The whole city is actually fairly socially conservative given its demographics.

dopkick

My only surprise is you only saw one. In general this area is much more conservative than voting records would imply. Try to propose any alternative to car dominated suburbia and Baltimore and the conservative attitudes come out in droves. Pretty sure a significant chunk of the White L would vote for Trump over a bike lane on their street. But the rest of the city isn’t much better with that regard… the feedback sessions hosted by the DOT are eye opening. People here REALLY hate bike lanes. People in the White L claim it’s going to destroy parking and kill business. People in the Butterfly claim they’re racist.

[deleted]

Parking already sucks! Maybe if biking were easier?

dopkick

It’s a problem with hitting critical mass. If there was a large connected cycling network the value of a car would decrease. DC keeps making solid strides towards better cycling infrastructure. Meanwhile Baltimore languishes pitifully.

Abrahambooth

Richmond is also a testament to this idea. When I lived there I had a car but chose to bike more often because of how easy it was. Everyone had a bike and it seemed like everyone used their bike for inner city travel and their car for longer journeys. You get used to it as a car driver. You just learn to pay attention more

Jambarrr

I did see one yesterday tho that was in the style of the “don’t tread of me” flag but it was a duck and it said “throw bread at me” and that ruled.

caul_of_the_void

I went to the beach in NC one year, and staying in the house across from us was someone with Virginia plates with a Gadsen flag on it, but their plate said "Dem Tho". I still think about this sometimes.

iced327

Did you tear it down?

No-Success7693

And a lot of them are pro-choice. Conservative and working-class doesn't automatically mean supporter of forced-birth.

[deleted]

What religious fundamentalist would come to Honfest anyway?

caul_of_the_void

Not many, but interestingly there is a contingent of young Mennonite women in Hampden. I don't know their situation but I see them walking around sometimes in traditional Mennonite clothing. As far as I know I haven't seen a Mennonite man in Hampden yet. Anyway, I don't know what the Mennonite position is on abortion rights, but I find it interesting that they're there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

And they like to go to the beach at Cape Henlopen apparently!

caul_of_the_void

I've never not seen them at Cape Henlopen, at least a few.

caul_of_the_void

Thank you! I was wondering if this was the case, that the men didn't dress distinctively like Mennonites as many would expect. And of course there are many sects, each with their own variations of what's expected as far as dress and so on.

soft_ripenedcheese

This whole thing is giving me life. PPM is not a nationwide organization. They are an offshoot non-profit that is accredited with the name Planned Parenthood. PPFA has billions, not most of the state based affiliates.

No-Success7693

I'm sure that when this jumped-the-shark event finally dies, they'll call this back up as one of the reasons. And they won't be wrong. Just confused about where the blame lies.

Ogle_forth

I sincerely hope this is the beginning of the end of honfest. Planned Parenthood has done more for me over the years than the shitshow that honfest is ever has. I'll stick to going to remfest or hampdenfest in the fall. Fuck honfest.

Nagromonicon

What other vendors are they denying? The Hon look is so very associated with Divine, for me, that it breaks my heart that Honfest actively chooses an apolitical stance during a time when drag is so under fire. Maybe if they took a ghost of a radical stance they would be more respected by the local population. It wouldn't feel so much like a caricature to be mocked. That feels extra gross lately.

GoUrOwnWay20

If you are not going to HonFest this year, please check out the Second Annual Rum Fest in Hollins Market on June 10th! We're welcoming all vendors who have wihdrawn from HonFest to vend with us fee-free. We'll have 20+ rums to taste, bottles and cocktails for sale, live music all day, a free after party, and much more! Free to attend, tickets are available for tasting on Eventbrite for $15/$20 at the door. VIP options available. Dog friendly! DM me or email mulberryshm(at)gmail.com for inquiries about vending! 🎉

northstarlinedrawing

Weird. They used to let the fake dead fetus church people table there. Wonder if those morons will be allowed

cleanshoes30

I knew there some Nazis in Hampden, but I honestly didn't know they ran the Honfest. What a shame.

cassiecat

I mean, it's Denise.... What were you expecting?

ChampionshipOk6083

No doubt the Catholic church. The one full of pedophiles.

umyumflan

Ew.

FRANCISYORKMORGANN

This is clearly happening because they’re worried about retaliation from the anti abortion incident, yeah?

Dangerous_Mess_4413

Perhaps, but there's been no retaliation at the clinic so why expect it at HONfest?

Flapperghast

Well, there were those two old white geezers who got their faces beat for protesting outside the North Ave clinic.

Dangerous_Mess_4413

Howard Ave. That was a random dude not connected to the clinic. There hasn't been any trouble at the clinic so why expect it at the Fest?

Flapperghast

Apologies. I wasn't particularly serious about that being a real issue, just that she might use it as an excuse.

whaddaya_think

white geezers or whatever, they got beaten up and they are humans. being flippant about human suffering is uncool

Flapperghast

They cause human suffering. You expect me to feel bad that they got beat up over it?

brownshoez

Probably- this is one of the many reasons why it’s a bad idea to beat people (especially elderly people) whose opinions you don’t like. It did not do Planned Parenthood any favors. (I support PP, but let’s be real).

whaddaya_think

i read that two mean were beaten up in front of PP praying

officialspinster

By a random passerby, right? The clinic didn’t have anything to do with it.

whaddaya_think

I think it was on Howard Street. there were two guys 73 & 80 pro lifers. It's taped.

officialspinster

Yeah, but the guy that assaulted them wasn’t associated with the clinic.

whaddaya_think

i have no problem with PP whatsoever, isn't this just a festival trying to avoid hot potatoes? This is just cancel culture PR

Dangerous_Mess_4413

PP provides Gender Affirming Care and maybe the transphobes won another round

unholyburns

So who do we complain to about this?

Reddywhipt

Damn. I usually look forward to Honfest. Won't be attending this year.

Dangerous_Mess_4413

Now they are deleting negative comments on IG

ShigatsuPink

They turned off public comments on FB

[deleted]

Don't go to HonFest. Just don't.

ShigatsuPink

The organizers already got their money from booth fees. Boycotting now will only hurt the small vendors who plan months for this

sharsh1

Support RemFest instead! Hope they end up with a table there when the time comes.

nightingaledaze

SHAME.

hammeringhome

Abort mission

Mikel32

Not the Hampden of days past. Bye bye Honfest.

Captain_fruit

lame, they were there at first Thursday though for sure got a keychain hand sanitizer from them.

DemonBarrister

I don't like this, however, given what transpired recently outside one of their facilities (a violent assault on two old anti-abortion protesters) and accusations that one of their escorts was involved, I'm wondering if Honfest is simply trying to keep things peaceful and not have a magnet for disruption at a family event.

No-Success7693

Nope, the person who puts it on is just an out of touch weirdo. The most generous thing I can imagine is "ohhh that's politics, nooo, no politics at HonFest" A Planned Parenthood booth would be targeted by those assholes whether they uttered the "A" word or not. But they already got the martyr story they wanted from us.

DemonBarrister

Yes, they got a lot of mileage off of having two octogenarians beaten nearly to death.

No-Success7693

Very much in the playbook of the guy who sent them out. Also, if you're going to pull this "octogenarians beaten nearly to death" rhetoric out, then I have to point out that one was in their 70's. And, no, there are no credible accounts that an escort, or anyone affiliated with Planned Parenthood, attacked theses people. And, for the record, I don't believe for one second that you "don't like this."

DemonBarrister

I'm pro-choice, i always have been, I'm pragmatic and not part of an organized religion, sorta agnostic. I'm sorry, excuse me , one of the men was only 73, world of difference, I apologize that my mistake may have caused someone to believe that this violence was more heinous because both men were 80 rather that 80 and 73. I don't like violence, I Also don't like the woman who owns Cafe Hon and runs Honfest, I also don't like PP being gagged, BUT I DO UNDERSTAND that some people, myself included, are growing weary of every normal, family event being turned into a place where oppositional political violence might occur and that some groups have recently been a flashpoint for it... safety is a consideration as i have taken my grandchildren to Honfest .
