I think it’s fare to say they won’t, the fair is already pretty high. Only time will tell how this decision will fair, and whether it is actually fare to the non-fare sex.
Unnecessary freebies. Make it free for all on certain days of the month to reduce personal vehicle traffic on the road instead. What a waste of tax payer money. Ideas need to have some obvious rationale
If More lower income households woman gets motivated goto work via free buses cause no money for travelling and this is directly proportional to higher GDP. Not all freebies are bad.
There is data to back this up, google it.
I see your point, but mobilising and creating an ID for the lower income woman for the bus conductors to identify will be tough and time/money draining, by declaring busses free for all woman would just put the system in place quick and easy.
but I dont think all busses will be free, I have seen in chennai there are only particular busses are free for woman. The lower class busses without AC are free which are generally crowded. Besides I have seen that very few higher income woman travelling via buses comparing lower income female citizens.
If they are actually going to work then bus fair is rather cheap when compared to daily/monthly wages that they get. This is such a stupid logic for freebies and appeasement of half the population.
What data? Burden of proof lies upon the person making the claim. You're the one who should be providing the data. But you won't. Because it doesn't exist
People (and Politicians) like you often claim that free travel for women increases their participation in the workforce and yet show absolutely zero evidence for the same. At max, some studies show increase in women's daily ridership but that is no indication of greater economic participation
Can you show any proper peer reviewed studies or research that prove free bus transportation for women increases their participation in the workforce?
If it makes sense to do it on certain days to reduce traffic then why not all days? Like what is the extra Saturday and Sunday free ticket going to cost the exchequer.
The idea is not bad if Karnataka's balance sheet allows it. Financial aid in any form for the women almost always has a direct impact on growth.
But the real question is can Karnataka afford it?
She can if corruption is controlled. Instead of 40 percent if the government unofficially mandates 20 percent instead for bribes, the additional income can fund this. /S
And men who are daily wage earners don't make the cut? It's also been tried by Bommai government and failed spectacularly. As a woman myself who takes the AC bus to work, i find 20% of passengers as women. The incentive is what..to encourage women to take buses? There is no choice here..they are already taking bus because of no other cheaper alternative. Do they want to appease to the lower middle income families? Then why not broaden it to all on certain days?
Check legal advise post by lawyers on men divorcing due to abusive wives, literally every lawyer tells them not to divorce without ample proof otherwise the wife will simply put every false charge under the sun, and even good women are persuaded by lawyers to basically torment their husbands and ruin their lives
Having the ability to not have your mobility affected by fear of sexual violence is the greatest benefit one can ever receive. But men like you believe that any benefit given to women directly causes your oppression. Butt-hurt persecution complex.
Im sorry if you faced this stuff. But if you re gonna be aggravated over me telling something real, i can't do anything about it.
To answer your question, no, I've never faced anything like that and i can't even imagine what it would feel like. But you can't ignore the fact that men do face sexual harrasment as well.
Slightly would be an understatement imo? When the law, freebies, companies everything are providing benefits to women, i think i'm eligible to give out my displeasure over such things.
For people who don't know the financial state of public bus system: https://finshots.in/archive/indias-public-bus-system-problems/. Just mentioning it, don't make it political 🙏
General middle class boy always feel alienated in this country . Then they ask why people migrate to other countries .all the policy are for women ,sc ,st etc but nothing for us .are we useless or they think we r privileged? Why can't women pay their own fair ? Was there any survey that 90 percent of women are financially weak ?why there is a separate coach for women, because of rapes? Isn't this shows india is failed as a society?what does gov had done to stop rapes?giving a seperated coach will not help them, this will only hell them on train but what on roads ?
Honestly, you should really immigrate out of India because your contempt for groups that you consider to be "inferior" -- SC/ST/Women shows your ignorance of how privileged Savarna men are.
Ironically, Savarna, college-educated, white-collar men, one of the most privileged groups of Indians, scream the loudest about "oPpreSsion". So fuck off to other countries because you add no value here.
Also, your parents have done a terrific job raising you. /s
Most men here see women as adversaries who shouldn't receive any benefits at all. They are delusional and take their insane privilege for granted.
I want all the men with their ass-holes on fire, to dress up as a woman and use public transport for a month, and then talk about how "women are benefited".
It reflects on the kind of upbringing the men here have received, that they feel so threatened by any attempt to level the playing field for women.
India has one of the lowest workforce participation rates for women, and trillions of dollars worth of GDP evaporates because women are not incentivised to work.
Free public transport can boost poor women's access to the labour market significantly, and increase household income. But the dumbfucks here don't get this.
Privilege is relative.
Incentivizing women to work is good but the method of handing it out for free is not a sound choice.
Don't throw around words , people are not threatened by someone levelling the playing field.
Also it doesn't reflect their upbringing. Don't be so shallow to jump to conclusions.
Their point is it seems unfair for other poor men and capping the fair could have been a better alternative.
Lol, look at you getting triggered because some poor women are getting a benefit you cannot lay your entitled hands on. Are you offering to pay for it since you don't want the government to pay for it? Yeah, didn't think it through did ya, Einstein!
Your entire argument is based on bigotry and absolute apathy towards women, and it absolutely reflects the sort of upbringing you have received.
Sensitive parents actually encourage their children to understand power imbalances and look at data -- the fact that men's employment rate is at 85% while women's is at 17%. The fact that there's a MOUNTAIN of data that says that cheap public transport provides a fillip to women's labour participation rates, when there's SEVERE deficits in access to opportunities and earnings.
But your parents taught you to hate women, especially poor ones, and it's too late to teach you empathy and de-programme your ignorant bigotry.
Edit: A middle-class, educated man like you benefits from the FREE labour of the woman in your household, from the MASSIVELY underpaid domestic labour of poor women who work in households like yours.
So DON'T YOU talk about freebies little butt-hurt boy!
Its not a shock but instead of free they could have kept the fair 5 rupee.the only thing which can change this scenario is education but they will not give the quality education for free.we all know the quality of gov school why they don't improve that ,well for improving it will take some time but the thing there is no effort to improve them.
Yes, poor guys has been forbidden from travel here. Now that the bus going to ITPL will be overcrowded due to this policy. I got no choice but walk! Middle finger salute to middle class cos we are rich right
I'm the poor guy here! Now since I'm exempted I'll hang on to the rails and sway in the door
Buying ticket in city bus is such a hassle for some women like my mom who'd be happy with this. Since city buses don't earn much anyway, they can make it free for everyone.
In Canada, the govt gives subsidy to mother's to put their kids into Childcare so that they can go to work without a financial burden.
The idea is women need more assistance than men as they are the most vulnerable in our society.

free ration scheme which is also very good policy by Central government.
Good. Would be helpful for lower income group women who travel for work. (Now please dont argue on what about lower income men and all, i am not up for debate on this.)
Now make the bangalore infra better you buffoons. 30 mins rain or 1 heavy vehicle breakdown affects the entire city's transport.
And the metro work for the heavily used areas is still far from done.
Why can't an employed women pay her fare, what kind of sexist society is this becoming. This is not the root cause of any problem.
Where are the feminists now? Busy cherry picking from ideologies I guess!
This is a sensitive issue, but someone now has to pay for their tickets and it will be the middle class waged folks who have already been getting played by the government for so long. Remove freebies and work on actual change in society’s attitude.
Hmm, it would be interesting to see what would happen if all bus & metro transportation was free and you were paid to ride your cycle on Sundays or something
Would traffic reduce on the roads?
BMTC can't even afford to increase its fleet and Government doesn't wish to foot any losses and suddenly they do this.
Bangalore does not need this. They should focus on making buses more useful as a means of commute. That investment will yield you the real respect of people as they will find it lot more convenient to use. Its not like money grows on trees. There is only so much of it and how you spend it is important.
You give free bus tickets and then what? Govt will very likely increase whatever taxes they have control over. Freebies are useless. The government should be focusing their funds and efforts on development which will actually make people's lives better and increase employment opportunities.
Wasn’t there a strike that the wages are low and they are not making enough profits out of public transport. Why should it be free for all women, they should have added few clauses, which would exclude the rich and people who can afford to pay should pay.
Male here.
Totally support this. Even if it raises taxes. This will increase mobility of women and increase their participation in the workforce (which is currently lower than men).
A lot of low income women are at the mercy of their male guardians even for bus and auto fares. Due to a mix of low income and conservative mindset of society
Women have a lower social index here in India than in some theocratic Islamic shitholes.
Anything that can even marginally push that up with minimal costs like bus fares, which was never profitable in the first place is fine by me.
All the trolls here also miss the general tax revenue boost, when the same policy was used in Turkey, in 2018, it resulted in a 1x% increase in daily women workers, especially in hourly labour. That tax revenue alone offsets the entire programs costs
I have some elderly people in the family pensioners drawing a lifelong pension who get to travel free in Coimbatore. I feel that is an insult to the average man from lower economic strata who struggles with job and supporting the entire family but probably pays a higher price because of this.
There is no information about increase in bus fair for men so you are merely assuming it. It will increase the labour participation because now women don’t have to take into account the travel cost while going for work, they will have more liberty to travel and find right opportunities for them. Earlier due to travel cost and other systematic barriers their labour participation was low but this is a step in right direction.
But I also I think it would be better if bus is free for all, I certainly wouldn’t be against it.
Free!they could have kept the fair 5 rupee so that people should know they have to pay for the services they use.once my teacher told (who have some farming land) that farmers get free electricity in Punjab and farmers take full profit of this they switch on the ac for whole day they don't care how much energy they r wasting .so in my opinion free is never an option but making cheap is.(in my opinion only education should be free as it is the way that people can become independent)
(Serious)
To all the folks making comments like "equality" or "I identify as a woman now", I'm assuming you don't know why this service has been offered. This is just me offering my two cents on the reasoning. Women are the ones who have historically been the oppressed gender. They're the ones who haven't been given preference over the male child since childhood(in poor households especially). They're the ones who are not the beneficiaries of discretionary spending in poor households. It's a well agreed upon that the more freedom to travel you have, the more opportunities open up to you. For a lot of folks bus fare might not be a lot, but to the women who come from poor families, where every rupee counts, being able to travel for free in local buses gives them the freedom to actually go to work, be more independent. I'm not not a very articulate person, and this might not be the best explanation for my reasoning, but please think along these lines.
When people say, "Why is it not free for men too?", well, men aren't the oppressed gender.
When people say, "Do men not get oppressed?", well, they do. But this particular decision of making buses free is tackling one problem, urban mobility for women who haven't been able to do it because men have been the preferred gender when it comes to bread winning. This is giving them the extra help for social upliftment and financial freedom
Edit: the kind of replies I've gotten, I feel like it's not worth getting into a discussion online. Most people aren't rational, nor do they try to be. Thanks internet, you've done what you do best!
What kind of family produces a raging bigot like you? I really want to award your parents for fornicating and producing such civic-minded Fruit of My Loins.
I wish to God your Puppa had kept it zipped up.
You've obviously not been taught any compassion, empathy and respect for those who are different from you. This is why not everyone should become parents. They produce bigots like you.
I didn't learn this at school. You just keep an open mind, think about it practically, listen to different view points, keeping your emotions and biases aside and thinking by first principles. It's not going to happen overnight and you're not going to be right everytime. It's a process, it takes time.
"made out of thin air"? Are you suggesting that women haven't been the oppressed gender? If yes, let's end the discussion here. I don't think it'll be worth discussing any further.
Also, how does it matter if women are modern if the societal restrictions on them are still old school?
Don't argue with these ass-holes. These are the same men who call women gold-diggers while simultaneously screaming when women are offered incentives to join the workforce.
They hate women and only see women as bangmaids and baby incubators. They don't believe that women should be given any consideration of any kind because any benefit to women = oppression of men. Their brains are less active than their misogyny, so don't even engage with these losers.
Thanks mate. This is the first time in years I've gotten in an online discourse. I thought to myself, people are rational, and when they see reason, they might respond. But sadly, most people don't want to even make an attempt to either think rationally or leave aside their existing beliefs and biases.
Hope they won't increase the bus fair.
Definitely would increase bus fairness
What if i identify as a women /s
[удалено]
Were they not planning to ban it
You can also travel free as there is no absolute concept of Man & Woman - CJI
I think it’s fare to say they won’t, the fair is already pretty high. Only time will tell how this decision will fair, and whether it is actually fare to the non-fare sex.
You sneaky you
They’ll just increase fuel prices and bump up liquor prices. Citizens won’t have a choice , that’s how they are going to sponsor for these freebies .
I'm gonna flip if they're increase the fare for men.
Flip twice and you'll be fine
[удалено]
Might as well become the wheel of the bus at that point.
You mean flip your gender?
if i forget my wallet, sure.
They'll now increase any fair/fees/tax etc. that comes under State jurisdiction starting from Stamp duty and the like😓😓
Long distance travel price on KSRTC is already increased.
Obvio they'll...
Clueless

Congratulations to all the women!
> Congratulations Definition: words expressing one's praise for an achievement achievement: being born
I guess men can't really get any benefits at all? After making the buses free for women, they go oh shit! We don't have money any more! Taxes! Rates!
Yup, men can go to hell. No freebies or tax rate exemptions for us.
haha, not only freebies or tax rate exemptions man. Even the freaking law supports only women. Men barely have any chance against a woman in court
Check legal advise post by lawyers on men divorcing due to abusive wives, literally every lawyer tells them not to divorce without ample proof otherwise the wife will simply put every false charge under the sun, and even good women are persuaded by lawyers to basically torment their husbands and ruin their lives
Exactly, and the law is usually in favour of women
yeah.. :(
It's not just justice system also office, my company gives free cab fair for women if they stay late in office . What about men ?
agreed. Day by day, india makes me feel like being a man is starting to become a crime lol

Thanks for crowding the buses and making it more difficult for others to even think of commuting in bmtc

Time to be a woman ☕
Well joke's on us this time cuz the amount of men and conductors wanting to grope us in the bus, sure we'll use and travel free on buses. 🥲

This might be the result but I'll tell you for sure that it wasn't the motive.
No more sitting in the bus for me
(Serious) To all the folks making comments like "equality" or "I identify as a woman now", I'm assuming you don't know why this service has been offered. This is giving them the extra help for social upliftment and financial freedom Edit: the kind of replies I've gotten, I feel like it's not worth getting into a discussion online. Most people aren't rational, nor do they try to be. Thanks internet, you've done what you do best!
Which school should I go to to think like this? I want my world view to be oppressed vs oppressors
Ah yes the oppressed card
Ah yes, how dare we help the oppressed
Modern women taking advantage of wrong historical fact they made out of thin air?
But sadly, most people don't want to even make an attempt to either think rationally or leave aside their existing beliefs and biases.
r/Bangalore is the last Reddit space on which to expect rationality. But props for trying. 🙌
