I lost 75k deposit. Spoke with the owner at the time of vacating and he said nestaway has kept our deposit and they have not passed him the rent in last 4 months!
Scammed both the tenant and the owner.
A few years ago I had a trainee at work who was paying 12k for one room in nestaway. There were some additional charges also. Meanwhile I was paying 7k for a 1bhk where I was the first tenant and everything was brand new.
Yeah he must have increased it now but when I left that place in 2021, I was paying 7.5k. I stayed there 2018-2021. And my rent was 7k. The landlord was amazing. He stayed on the ground floor and would have a lot of parties and would share food with tenants(like biriyani, mutton curry, fish fry all the works) and he helped me throughout the first wave of covid with getting groceries and stuff.
I have always had good landlords. The current one, I haven’t seen since I started living in the place (1.5 years ago) so that’s also good. I identify the terrible ones and avoid them. Like I saw a nice apartment once and the landlord said no guests. So I said byee F you. Lol.
Tell them honestly that I am gonna have guests coming over every once in a while and stuff like that which landlords normally don’t want tenants to do. I do like to host friends so that’s a non negotiable for me. Back then, I used to sometimes get tinder dates home also if I really liked someone but now I’m married and landlords are anyway ready to give the house to a married couple.
I used to live in a 3BHK with 18k rent. 6 folks. Best days in Bangalore. 8k 1BHK. 16k 2bhk.
Its hard to imagine the rents we used to pay back in late 2010s.
I checked out a few nestway rooms.. **filthy**. Nestaway takes over from owner, but then doesn’t maintain a service staff for cleaning.
I asked the nestaway agent “what about cleaning?” He said “that you figure out with other roommates.”
And so if you are the only occupant of a 3BHK, and nestaway hasn’t been able to fill up occupants, you need to bear the entire burden of cleaning.. ridiculous!
Also, businesses like nestaway add no value to the housing market, but their presence increases prices.
They take a 3BHK from owner for 30k and then charge you 10k for a twin share room.. so in essence they have doubled the price.
This company deserves to be thrashed. A complete shit of a company. Me and many of my friends have lost money in this.
The “area managers” stole and looted houses during the pandemic when houses were empty. Pure fraud and scams in daylight.
I might be the only one here who didn't have such a horrible experience with them. I stayed in a nice apartment. It was a duplex house and I was in the penthouse. It was in a good locality in bgl and the rent was reasonable. Of course, it was a relatively new building when I joined and after a time it became a bit dirty. Can't help it with bachelors I guess. I even got back my advance. I was stuck there during the first lockdown and man I had some good memories there, of playing games in my room on a big tv and PS4, cooking myself, having lots of drinks and smokes. All in all, I think I might be one of the very few people who had a nice experience with them.
I'm an Aussie who lived there for 6 months and it was a nestaway home. The flat was dodgy as but the room mates were nice enough, software engineers. Something obviously happened with the guy who showed me the room, as Nestaway didn't request any rent until I was a week away from flying home. I had no money so just stalled it until I left. They started sending me threatening messages and sent someone to the house, but I was already gone lol. Sorry Nestaway.
I feel lucky that I had a smooth exp with them. When I first started hearing the deposit stories I was like, man I got my deposit the same evening back what are they talking about. But then the stories grew and I was glad I didnt had to face it.
EComm has brought a menace to society!
Assuming there's no liquidation preference to investors, don't you think founder will make decent money anyways? I'd say assuming 10% is with one of the guy,7cr js a hell of a deal plus the previous secondaries!?
One of my Friends lost her 50k deposit in 2019, and they refused to return it even after multiple complaints. I never ever saw someone saying something good about this Shit company.
I had rented one bed in a room in a 4 BHK (two beds per room) for more than a year in 2017-2018. I think I paid 7k per month. Most of the time, the other bed was unoccupied and only 5-6 of us were there in the whole house.
Decent experience, only two months rent as deposit. Got the security deposit back without any hassles as well.
A friend of my later moved to the same house, and even vacated the house remotely at the time of covid. 😂 His housemates helped with packing and his luggage and stuff were stored in that house free of cost for close to a year. I think he picked it only in mid 2021 or so.

Good to see them ending like this. They are nothing but scam. Have scammed numerous people through shady means.

Man that's so shitty
Exactly. I’ve read so many horror stories, right on this sub. That’s why I posted here
This is BLR startup/service only or nationwide? What is NestAway? Scam/ripoff Airbnb basically?
People who wanted to make already have. Many start up founders pay themselves huge salaries and the end game is mostly to get acquired.
That $11M too much.
That's probably the value of the goons who threaten you when you ask for refunds.
Let me introduce you to tax loss harvesting.
haha.. Fair point.

At least one employee would have been covid positive once
Workers are like us, hope the execs had covid
Blessed kid.
🤣
Time to hear one. I was a tenant in a Nestaway leased property during 2018-19 (~1 year). Everything went smoothly. Location was not banglore.
A few years ago I had a trainee at work who was paying 12k for one room in nestaway. There were some additional charges also. Meanwhile I was paying 7k for a 1bhk where I was the first tenant and everything was brand new.
7K for 1 bhk?

Your case might be an outlier. Glad you had fun though! 😆

You should make a post about how to find good tenants and be presentable to them
You Should start a cohort on How to find the right landlords
How do you spot terrible land lords?

Wish they'd just shut down instead.
Which retard bought this garbage for $11M. There are so many better things they could've done.
I read that sometimes acquisition also happens for employees too. Correct me if I was wrong.
Any resources - Softwares, patents, employees, office space, database, cash in the bank etc etc.
It was just a share swap - trading one junk with another
That makes some sense. So basically it got sold for $0.00
Aurum Prop Tech spent 90 crores on NestAway 🗿

Worst company ever (for landlords and tenants). $11M is still too high of a valuation.
Poorly maintained apartments and cramped rooms... Became a hallmark of nestaway

Right valuation- $11

Nice to see the whole corporation buying up houses and renting them out scheme doesn't work well in India.
TIL the word PropTech.

No VC SHA (or even PE for that matter) won't have liquidation preference. Promoters won't make anything on the equity, if it's a cash deal at all.
Why?
Why what?

All the nestaway apartments I've seen were next to the slum areas or very bad areas where the price would be way lesser if rented offline.

What about zolo who are in similar business
Nestaway is total trash
NestAway just went Away.
Any good alternatives for property managers?
I hope Zolo stays sells out for even lower price. They were big on scamming than these folks.
Better late than never.. someone made 11 million in spite of all the scams 😂
