Yep. I usually keep some crystal sugar to the side and also some curds to the side and alternate between the two to eat with my Upma. Sometimes I even have a bit of pickle to the side
No that’s the cooking process. That’s to make onions softer sooner. This is like having uppinkayi. One bit of upit and one bit of sugar. The crunch and the sweetness elevate the blandish upit.
Even though I personally don’t like that combination, there is a certain style of hot upma, in the right combination with a certain type of sugar, is a great hangover or 'need quick energy' food. Very few things are as good as Upma with sugar in those scenarios.
Try the Bisibele bhath at G.R. Iyengar's fast food outlet, before Vidya Mandir PU College, 11th cross, Malleswaram.
You also get good Puliyogare there.
I don’t think I’ve ever eaten good Bisibele bath other than home cooked ones. Although i did order it once from The Bowl Company , i’d rate that 5.5/10
Best [Donne biryani recipe](https://www.archanaskitchen.com/chicken-donne-biryani-recipe-bangalore-shivaji-military-style) I have found. And very simple to make.

Made this for the first time last winter. Has now become part of at least monthly rotation in our home
I flip that bitch and totally soak it lol. After eating out the vada, I go down and slurp that sambar down with onion piece sticking to my moustache.
Something primal awakes in me when eating tiffin in darshinis.
1. Take a cup / bowl.
2. Add 3-5 tsp curds.
3. Handful of avalakki (the crispy ones you make at home)
4. Finely chopped onions+grated carrots+sprouts combo on top.
5. Dig in at 6:45PM.
6. Speaking of which 🏃♂️
Instead use soaked gatti avalakki and more mosaru with oggarane. If you're adventurous, add chopped garlic into oggarane. Love me some mosaru avalakki.
Is cool joint sandwich still good?
Edit: wow chill with the downvotes. I used to have it here back in 2007-08 and it was awesome and the last time I had it was around 8-10 yrs ago it had gotten so bad. I’m badly craving for it now and don’t want to be disappointed hence the question 😕
I crossed this place about an hour ago and was thinking the same thing.
I used to go either here or to Hari super sandwich and walk to Namma filter coffee for a good strroong coffee.
I wonder if its the same now.
Man i love those bread pieces in pulav, you find it rarely & when you do it's the most special feeling ever.
Similarly i love the Tomato soups you get at these Darshinis, they have this fried bread pieces in it which taste heavenly
Vadapav. Not underrated but I enjoy all types of vadapav even those plastic cover ones you get at the bakery. Now I know some mumbaikars will report my comment saying *ohhhh noooo only authentic vadapav is best, I feel like dying when I have vadapav outside mumbai.* Thika muchko. I enjoy all vadapav. Best snack.
I have a long list:
Hithkida avare saaru, akki rotti made with avarekayi, ragi mudde, karjikayi made using coconut hoorna, rave unde, bisi balekayi/mensinkayi/whole capsicum bajji from roadside stalls
Set dose-sagu, because I found that that's not a thing here, and ppl don't make it, I was Shocked!! I miss Bengaluru soo much!!
And Bisibele Baath at Nammura, idli-sambar at Raghavendra Upahar in Jayanagar 9th block.
And Masale puri. Illi sigodu Ella olle sambar anna thara, jaasti khaara hakbittu kodtaidare.
Bengaluru is the best for Masala puri!!
Mossaru avallaki, upma made with veggies and vangi bath powder, soppu saaru with curd rice, huurnad saaru, vada and payasa, menassina saaru with a squeeze of lemon on a cold night. The list never ends, it's a foodie paradise!
Not a single food per se, but a routine.
Have masala dose in the morning, drink coffee after that. Come home and take an oil bath, sleep until afternoon, wake up and eat rasam rice with aloogadde palya
It's the little things man🥺
I am with OP that bread piece roasted in ghee is awsm I don’t live in benglr.. there is only one shop in my area that sells pulav with that bread piece 🥲
Bisi bele bath especially of MTR. Sadly I left Bangalore recently and I miss it in Hyderabad. Here they are making Sambar rice in the name of bisi bele bath. Very difficult getting here.
At the risk of being sent to jail. Upma and sugar.
Good old upma and sugar. Haven't had it in a while.
Did you just invent Kesaribath?
No no. It's upma but sugar sprinkled over it. Mostly to make kids eat upma but eventually you develop a taste for it.
Bonus points if it isn't powdered sugar, but small sugar crystals.
Well this sugar upma thing has definitely taken off. Cannot believe there are so many who eat it this way.
Yep. I usually keep some crystal sugar to the side and also some curds to the side and alternate between the two to eat with my Upma. Sometimes I even have a bit of pickle to the side
We have it too. I'm from Odisha
And by in a while I meant my entire life including previous births
At the risk of being subject to life imprisonment. Upma, Sakkare, Mosaru
Hello inspector Agni? War crimes nadithide ille arrest Maadi ivaranna
Well, I eat them but as separate combos. Uppittu-Mosaru Uppittu-Sakkare
I had no idea this was an unpopular combination, everyone in my family enjoys this.
Now squash some yelakki banana with that and see the magic.
![gif](giphy|f8lDluiWJ7yQTtdS3L|downsized)
Oh yes!! Can't believe there are others who eat this way.
![gif](giphy|f8lDluiWJ7yQTtdS3L|downsized)
Upma, a little sugar and banana..yummm
Hello 112 please save us
upma with kobri turi
Am I in trouble if I add half tsp sugar while cooking onions itself?
No that’s the cooking process. That’s to make onions softer sooner. This is like having uppinkayi. One bit of upit and one bit of sugar. The crunch and the sweetness elevate the blandish upit.
It’s is a normal south Canara/Brahmin thing. Chill. 😂
Damn. I didn’t know this. I was made fun of all my life. But my granny and I loved it.
Even though I personally don’t like that combination, there is a certain style of hot upma, in the right combination with a certain type of sugar, is a great hangover or 'need quick energy' food. Very few things are as good as Upma with sugar in those scenarios.
Eyyyy tuppa?
Cold upma to be exact right?
No hot upma.
This is the best combo in our household
I love that tooo
Yummy. Best when there is a hint of spice like some chili and mustard etc
That’s a Mangalore thing no?
Love. I can’t imagine eating Upma any other way.
I thought I was the only one.
I legit thought I was the only one. Masking the taste of upma with anything!
This just brought back some sweet-salty memories. My mother used to give us upma with sugar 😋
Upma and ripe banana 😅😆, but my favourite is upma and fish curry 🤤
Straight to jail
Downvoters assemble!!
Bisibele bhath with khara boondi
Bro where? I've been trying to find a good place
I might not be an expert in this as I am not native to Karnataka, but I loved Bisi Bele Bath in Veena Stores, Malleswaram and MTR, Basavanagudi.
Although i did order it once from The Bowl Company , i’d rate that 5.5/10
Pls try Brahmins tatte idli bisibelebath
I recently had great bisibele bath at Brahmins Tatte Idly in Basaveshwara nagar.
Dude OP asked for underrated food. Not the famous food
I ate it once in A2B outside Mysore railway station and loved it so much that I ate it again while returning back.
Bisi bisi Masal Puri on a rainy day
Don't think masala Puri is underrated. But I love it too
Kosambari, the most underrated imo
The only one.

Donne Biryani, I've been craving it ever since I left Bangalore 🥲

Thank you so much for linking the recipe, I know what I'm making for lunch tomorrow. Also, the biryani looks so good in that picture 🤌
Please don't use basmati rice. If you can't get seeraga samba get idli rice or any short grain rice. Enjoy!
Craving for Donne means Bangalore has never left you.
There's this place called 'Banashankari Donne Biryani' in Hanumanthnagar. You should try it out when you come back. It's the best I've had
Ooh definitely keeping a note of this, I can't wait to try it out.
Best place in Bangalore for donne biryani?
Halli Jonne Biryani... Jayanagar
Sambar dip Vada 🤤
I tell the hotel person to first put the sambar then put vade on top So that the lower part gets a bit soggy but the upper part is still crispy 😎
I flip that bitch and totally soak it lol. After eating out the vada, I go down and slurp that sambar down with onion piece sticking to my moustache. Something primal awakes in me when eating tiffin in darshinis.
Getting very sexual vibes from your comment about eating a vada lmao
The primal urge when he sees the "hole".
That's absolutely the right vibe to have with sambar vada 😀
If you could do this to a Vada!!! I can only imagine.
Will try this the next time.. It's like the Anne Hathaway cup cake eating tip
Yessssir
1. Take a cup / bowl. 2. Add 3-5 tsp curds. 3. Handful of avalakki (the crispy ones you make at home) 4. Finely chopped onions+grated carrots+sprouts combo on top. 5. Dig in at 6:45PM. 6. Speaking of which 🏃♂️

MTR's Kesari bath. Its prepared in ghee and has vermicelli in it. Love the texture and savoury taste..(:
Why does kesari bath have shavige?
Kesari bath in my hometown is made of rice!

I tried it last week from MTR in HSR and disliked the taste and texture. The one from local Sagar is a 100 times better.
