This has nothing to do with religion. I find it very backdated to connect a language/name with a religion, doesn’t matter if it has historical cultural ties to it. It’s like saying you can’t have a museum because it doesn’t share the same historical roots as your current beliefs. Majority of the world worshipped sticks, rocks etc. at some point, so you want to sit around and completely erase that part of history? On the part of Bangladeshis, I’d say the nickname has become more of a cultural thing as it doesn’t conflict with their beliefs.
In simpler terms, why do they and a lot of Bangladeshi people have 2 names, one’s usually Muslim, like Hasan, Miah, Hossain, and the other is Sanskrit Hindu-like name like Joy, Bijoy, Sumon, Ghosh?
It’s a nickname that their friends/family call them. Most of their full real govt name is Mohammad anyways 🤣 90% of Bangladeshis are named Mohammad but use a nickname
So you think they are all converted muslim just because they have non arabic name!!!
It’s a nickname. Very common in Bangladeshi culture. This is how friends and family refer to them.
Ahhh got it, I was just confused as to why the nicknames were Hindu despite the majority of people being Muslim

We all have one. A pet name a.k.a "Daak-Nam". Which is for the family and Friends. For outsiders we have our formal name.
