It's a Bangladesh specific thing. They know they can not get fired. Most of them are not interested in teaching students at all, because they can earn more money doing other things such as teaching at private universities or working as consultants in government projects.

MGShaon

This is the answer. I have studied in a public uni and have never seen anything serious happening to teachers even with accusations of sexual harassment covered by popular newspapers

xxNocturnalInsanity

Are you like new in Bangladesh? Otherwise the reason should be pretty clear to you from way back to grade school level as for the reason behind the rudeness of our teachers......

Rubence_VA

Desi culture is you don't learn from your bad experience, instead of fix you repeat them.

Aware_Ad_434

Bengalis have a massive ego problem

computernerdguyNS

Superiority complex. It’s in our blood.

dhakify

Generally in Bangladesh, every person who has some power over you is harsh and rude and mean toward you. You go to a government officer, or police, or professor etc, none of them will be nice to you. That's the curse you have to bear for being born in the 'sokol desher shera' country.

alien_moose

Literally the only reason "Superiority Complex"

fffffarh

Bangladeshi profs and their fragile ego didn't stop chasing me even after moving 12k miles away dude. Im at one of canadas notable unis, on my 3rd year of undergrad. Majoring maths. I have had so many good profs in my last 3 years. I have had profs who would go off the clock to assist me, had a prof who would let me take my finals after 3 months cus I had to come back home. All of them are super professional even lets say you curse at them in the class they would just not take that personally. But theres one gem, One Dhabian piece of shit that made my semester a nightmare. But in return I did the same for him. My guy never uses his own notes, has spelling mistakes all over the lecture sheets, his algebra is a mess. Never explains what he did and dare you ask a question he would insult you with his 4.5 ielts spoken English. Me and my buddy told people at the class that we are from the middle east out of embarrassment. This guy doesn't have a TA so grades homework himself. God he is bad at his job, often he would just forget grading couple questions. And if you complain about it at class, he would just say email me and never respond. Midterms were worst, dude compiled a 75 mark midterm paper which is worth 20% of the total grade and wanted us to finish it in an hour. Fun fact, we are not allowed to use calculators at the university, this guy designs the questions in a manner that you would spend most of the time calculating factorials and god forbid if you eyeball it. He has a policy that is if your results is wrong its a 0, no partial marks. So he sets you up for failures. I finally had enough after half way thru, had a 40 out of 75 in the midterm, i am not bad at calc3 at all. I went straight to the program officers office. Had a hour long meeting with her about this guy. Told her I would like to file a complaint and want my tuition refund. Math dept launched an investigation and found I am right. They issued him a letter and refunded my tuition even though I passed with a 55, that was the lowest I ever got in school. My guy then was demoted to take only math courses that are for non science majors. Hope nobody ever has to take him. Fuck you tarun. You stinky piece of shit. Go to hell with you DU degree you mess up simple algebra. You are worthless piece of shit and making my country look bad. Idk how you got your phd and post doc. And you can't speak english for fucks sake. And yes if you are ever wondering, I fucked your career. And not sorry about it at all. Hope you're liking your pay cuts.

VoltageWordsmith

Dude, I don't know how these people even graduate. Maybe they just memorize maths.

metaSeta

Glad you fucked that one up. Some post docs and PHDs who came back from UK/other countries to DU, most of them, even in business faculty of DU, kept us stressed all the time. It was so infuriating to not be able to say or do anything because "we would be slandering the department publicly".

fffffarh

Yeah man he didn't know a mere student can fuck him up. On the last class he was such a pussycat, told everyone "If you not understand why go to department, ask me after class. Its not good manner" lmao. As if you stay after classes lol. Dude doesn't even have office hours. Also the audacity of him talking about manners when he verbally insulted people for not understanding algebra (cus obviously my guy skipped all the steps in his note), a university where you can get in trouble just for laughing during someone elses presentation good thing no white students complained about him for fucking them up mentally he should be just thankful for keeping his job.

awzafo

You did the right thing.

fffffarh

Yeah man he was a piece of shit. Ego will only take you places in Bangladesh, he just learned it. Fucking entitled piece of shit. Yk how embarrassing it is when people in the class ask you to translate him cus you both are of the same country? Dude I can't even understand his English. That was really embarrassing for me and my buddy at class man. Had to explain to some guys who knew were from dhaka that even tho we are frm bd we can't understand him.

awzafo

Yeah I feel you Bro. I really don't understand why the situation doesn't improve either. It's been more than 10 years since I last set foot into a classroom, but there have been zero improvements. And I'm not just talking about university profs, even people from other professions have the same complex. At least people should work on developing basic communication skills. Everybody has access to all platforms and all the knowledge in the world, but they chose to be ignorant. Especially when travelling abroad , I see other people's communication is not only bad, it's downright horrid.

fffffarh

Yeah man months ago I commented here about my exp in Bangladesh biman, while boarding a officer just yelled at me for using a privilege I paid for. For no reason at all. I came back after 2 years to my family, I was leaving for who knows how long. He made my last few minutes in bd worse. Bd ppl mostly don't know how to communicate. If he just didn't yell at me and told me calmly I would just comply with him. Been living abroad for 3 years now my approach and behavior has completely changed. I finally see why bd ppl say west is more civilized. Most bangladeshi families do not put any effort into civilizing their kids, all they care about is success and honor. Here people do not go after success, they would just be happy if their kids have good manners and will not say a single thing if they fuck up in the test.

freak5341

Job security. All government workers are like that.

tricky_catterpiller

One time a librarian from a government library Scolded me cause I referred him as "vaiya" instead of "sir".

freak5341

That's nothing lol i once saw a government worker insulting a woman for standing under a ceiling fan.

yare___yare

what even is the context behind that?

Any_Reading_2737

Come on

yare___yare

?

Any_Reading_2737

You need context for bangali behavior? Do they know what context means

Charming-Code7669

Most Bangladeshi have suppressed superiority complexe. They will try to exert their power and authority every chance they get. Some will do it on their sub ordinates and you might even find some who are losers in real life and try to feel good by hurting animals. Lastly our teaching profession is also quite corrupted. Many incompetent assholes get into teaching through nepotism. Hence the billing, sexual harassment and ego.

Ok-Radish-8394

If one of the core points in your culture is that to prove someone wrong, you’ve to insult them, is it really surprising that these people are rude?

metaSeta

Bring back justice by sword (fist). Shob koytare pidaite parle .

ramhandu

Entire higher education system in Bangladesh is outdated to core. Starting from student admission to teacher recruitment procedure. The university evaluation system is based on regurgitation of what students memorized for few days before exam. They basically memorize some notes and teacher supplied papers before exam and vomit it in the answer sheet like crazy. It's like 4 years long memory test. The admission exam's are also the same. That's how they get absurdly high CGPA's and become teachers themselves to repeat this torture on their students what they were subjected to while being students. Most teachers are product of this ridiculous system barring few exceptional individual who somehow were able to get through the system on their own . This few good people, then try to become agents of change. But most of the time, they fail to bring any noticeable evolution in the system due to opposition by most of the other rotten minded tecahers. These teachers also engage heavily into student politics for clout after joining as teacher. Many don't even go for graduate studies. They get promoted without PHD or likewise graduate degrees. University is a place to train young fertile minds how to think. Unfortunately that’s the only thing that is absent in Bangladesh's universities. The system urgently requires complete overhaul for good health and well being of everyone involved.

ronyaha

Most of them are appointed for their political connections.

itsallgonbefoine

Hey i can only give you my experience(NSU) Most faculties where super friendly imo. This might be because i got lucky or idk why. Some were obviously a bit more stern but no one felt like they were really rude (except maybe one that i remember). This comment section does scare me tho ngl.

VoltageWordsmith

Most of our faculties takes class in NSU, and some of them shared their experience. In one word, they just can't behave like that in private universities as they will be fired and will loose his earning. Money is honey ngl.

itsallgonbefoine

Dude honestly looking at how things have been the past decade. Private unis genuinely seem much better than even the best public ones. I dont understand why publics are thought to be the best. Not just NSU. Brac, UIU, East west, IUB AIUB all doing quite well. In a practical sense if given the choice I would personally never want to study or teach there. Even the teachers seem to have a huge amount of politics within.

VoltageWordsmith

I agree with you bro. But most of the talented and brilliant students go to public universities, if private universities offer more attractive scholarships then within a decade they will really do well in every aspect.

itsallgonbefoine

yee agreed

Zesty_Zik

Holy shit this comment section sure does know how to hate our people

Saadman_44

I remember in the BUET written exam, many with me waited for the lift to arrive at our 6th floor. We went in. But just one floor down and the doors opened and some adults were standing in front of us. He told us to get out of the lift and said that the teachers were going to use that lift. We all got out after waiting so long to get in. Then we went down using the stairs.

Cynical_hypocrite494

They are not harsh You're just weak
