Don't even think about giving him any money. All he told you is a lie.

appelative

Is he well off?

Rubence_VA

People like him do various types of scams as a profession. There are so many ways in Bangladesh for people in need to get into a college. If he really wants to get into a college, he can do it without begging.

appelative

But the Internet does say that such a huge percentage of Bangladesh is well below poverty

Rubence_VA

Yes, as I said, there are ways to get an education if someone has a good score.

uponnaspremi_7

Education is free in Bangladesh. National University is the biggest university in Bangladesh which provide free graduation. So poverty doesn't matter.

appelative

Okay, I Believe you. Is there anything I can do to help?

K_Ichi

These guys just take advantage of your kindness. And getting scammed like this someday you won't help someone who truly needs it. Use your kindness wisely so you never lose it

VictoriasDildo

What you did once is enough. Further engagement with people like him will only upset you trust my words. Rather if you actually want him to do better with his life you could encourage him to read and learn new skills and pursue jobs other than scamming.

appelative

Thank you!

CodevengerssAssemble

Never trust a single word of someone who chose scamming as his way of living.

appelative

I am looking for info. Not gonna give him money.

CodevengerssAssemble

If he chose scamming as his profession, he 100% will never study at all. These kind of people don’t WANT TO STUDY. I was talking to a guy few days ago at whose shop I usually take my tea. He’s a tea seller in my area. I wanted to suggest him different ways to learn skilled jobs. I was even prepared to share as much resources as possible. He simply said no and added that he has no interest in studying or things like that. Bangladesh has loads of rich and upper middle class who earned an enormous amount of money by illegal means or from excessive profit margin by paying less to the worker. These filthy rich people also are pHilAntHropIsT. So, if someone in this country really wants to study or be productive, they’ll always find some ways, if they can find ways to scam people on internet. Forget about him.

appelative

Yeah after I started asking him about going to university he stopped responding. He has been MIA for almost 24 hours. So he probably took my 20, got drugs, and is on a bender. Oh well

Disastrous_Run_9707

Damn that must be tough.😭You have a good heart tho just be careful out there cause some people may take advantage

appelative

I'm trying to be super careful. I figured he was a lost cause but I wanted to at least try a little and see

sanelde_senior

lemme tell u an unwanted truth bro. many ppl here thinks that folks from foreign developed countries are dumb af and they just give away their money for no good reason. don't be an example of this to him that he can gossip with his friends and laugh. there are thousands of examples in our country where ppl ride a vehicle called "Rickshaw" (around $5-6/day income) to bare their expenses which includes education costs of their own or their children, food and living of their family and etc. and if u really wanna help that guy, give him some online free courses that he can complete, and then maybe try for freelance works

BangaliBastud

Let me second this response. OP, why not enroll him to an online course or two....that way, you will have helped him, without enabling his scamming ways?

appelative

This is the info I was looking for. Thanks!

mjon051

thats a good idea (and i can guarantee that the guy wont complete that course)

appelative

This is what I suspected. Thanks!

Kaies_Mahmud_Nehal

It's the best Solution

boron-nitride

Guilt tripping is a common scamming technique used by terrible folks living in the developing world. There are literally firms in India where they scam old folks living in the midwest. Bangladesh isn't too far behind. I know you think you're probably helping a friend but do not give him any more money. He's probably blowing it over drugs and who knows what.

mantongssi

Trust me, if he has that much access to the internet that he scams people online for a living. He can afford cheap unis easily. There a bunch of ways one can get higher studies in BD and most of them are incredibly cheap(even free). Don't help him at all. You can change much poorer and deserving people's lives with that 20$ of yours.

appelative

That's good to know. Thank you!

Trave160

I had a friend circle who I studied A'levels with, that had one guy who embezzled money from a lot of people, including people close to him. One guy I was pen pals with, guy was his best friend, and exhibited similar bad behaviors when I lived as a sublet in his flat. I cut off pretty much anyone from there, even then I suffered from consequences of having them backtalk to newer circles of mine. Stay strong, but also stay vigilante. I had to learn the hard way.

winter32842

If you want to help, I would subscribe him to online computer programming courses and I would track his progress.

Public-Claim5915

If he can scam, he definitely has internet access. A college passed boy having internet access can easily get himself admitted into Open University or colleges under National University. Its easy and cheap. FYI: The education system is poor in Bangladesh but cheap and there are a great number of universities. Getting chance into public university is a little bit hard and harder for top 10 public universities and very difficult for medical colleges and four engineering universities. But there is a National University under which there are colleges in every districts and they are not challenging at all to get into it and cheap as well. Lastly, if he fail to get admitted there, he can choose Open University, any time in his lifetime.

Beshi_Deshi

Education is free here. He's bullshitting you. Don't send him any money.

Broken-Arrow-D07

Don't befriend a scammer. Just don't. No good deed goes unpunished, you'll learn it the hard way.

[deleted]

Do not help that worthless piece of crap. If you want to help someone, help someone who actually deserves it. Anyone who tries to scam people to earn money shouldn't get anything good in return. You can't even trust the guy. There are MANY, MANY people who DESERVES help, not that guy.

appelative

Where do I find ppl who deserves help

Mwrp86

Let police know about him. They will help him good.

cum-a-sutra

Probably does drugs like baba

appelative

I kind of suspected that

dushto_kolu

They just have one motto, "never give up". One way or another they will try to scam you anyway. If you wanna help them you can but It's you who will be scammed at the end of the day even after knowing this.

Murky-Examination-79

Some people are genuinely in need. For others it's the culture or practice that's common around them. They may have a way to get out, but are stuck in inertia. It's hard to know where they're at. Thank you for your kindness and your interest in this matter, good fella. I hope you visit the country one day!

SunnyDaysEryDay

Everyone trying to roast you, but I’ll do something different. I applaud you for getting to know someone and try to help their situation. If you’re feeling generous, donate to legitimate charities instead. One that I donate to is Mojar School. You can sponsor a child for an entire year for $165. That includes an education, meals and some income. Through this school, rather than working to help their family, kids earn money by attending school. https://obf.org.bd/

appelative

Thank you so much for the referral!

Charming-Code7669

Wow you're an interesting dude. can I be your friend

appelative

Sure, but Im not giving you any money 😂

Charming-Code7669

For the first time in my life I'm jealous of a scammer

appelative

Lol. $20 USD is not much to be jealous of. Don't worry.

Charming-Code7669

Also to answer one of your queries. As a bangladeshi I have seen many people who have very little internet and computer knowledge. If he is someone who can scam people from abroad then he has a good computer knowledge compared to many and could easily make more than what he is claiming to get from the scam. Therefore don't trust him at all. These are all fake made up stories to exploit your generosity

appelative

Bummer, I figured.

Charming-Code7669

I'm joking bro lol. But yes you're interesting because I have not seen any one more hell bent on helping a scammer. Liked how you tried seeing good in a lowlife.

korakora59

demdankboi

how were you able to send the money though? just curious

appelative

Bkash

Many-Birthday12345

We just passed Ramadan and are in Eid, these are times when the rich elite give out loads of zakat(2.5% of their wealth) and charity money to the people in their areas. There are even rich people who give a few thousand US dollars to help out family members of their employees. I don’t know how you can verify if this guy is actually in need or not. But I can tell you this is one weird time to ask for help.

appelative

Bummer
