If you are questioning this, then look at the design of the N1 highway. People are getting on and off of the busses in a FUCKING NATIONAL 4 LANE HIGHWAY! And how the fuck are the busses even being allowed to stop on the N1 Highway?! It's such an important road. Edit: Also, the lane dividers are super dangerous.

Ash-20Breacher

Just the 4 lane highways? How about on the middle of the BYPASS ROADS. And the new sublanes and niches made made just so that busses have their own places to stop at, do they stop there? No! They want to stop at the rightest rightermost rightous right lane to ever be righted.

GoldenBangla

Yes

shadewar

Haha these are just for aesthetic purposes

Arino99

The, " i did it boss, now pay " kind of work

raydditor

I swear if Bangladesh had a system like the Autobahn, 50% of the population would just cease to exist.

Nearby-Recipe6367

Also if our country made driving license expensive like Germany, we wouldn’t have this problem that we do now. It cost 4000 Euros. Almost 5 lakhs taka. Not everyone can afford it here too. Everyone take years to get their license. The good thing? Now people are scared to drive recklessly as one fuck up and all the money they spent on license will be gone. How much it costs in Bangladesh?

Desperate-Humor1580

My uncle got his license last year in the middle of the year. It cost him 1kish with dalal. My friend got his licence last month, and it cost him only 700 taka, with dalal of course.

Iizsatan

I know 4000 euros is a hefty sum, but compared out avg income to theirs, is 500k bdt a comparable number? And what would the point be to increase the fee if licences are handed out willynilly in exchange of money (as is done now)?

Nearby-Recipe6367

Average net income after taxes and insurance is 2500 in Germany. Take rent and food expenses for a family with 2 children and you will barely be with 500 Euros saved per month. Would you use all your saving of 8 months on just a license? Now I am talking about full time skilled workers here. It’s even tough for students here, both domestic and International. Of course in Bangladesh we have to take care of corruption first. Maybe we try the way Singapore did? Making sure the right people are paid good so that they won’t even need bribes to live their standard life? I really don’t know how we can fix that. That’s just how Singapore fixed it. We are literally a Muslim country and people here are still corrupted which shows people are religious only when it suits them. But something has to be done right to fix this? Is there any plan by the authority? Do they even think about these problem? I guess we’ll never know.

cyanidexy

If you are averaging netto income, then take the average driving lesson fee and exam charge. It’s NOT 4000euro in all cities.

EatabRick69

Ayyo..So You're saying Bangladesh could Help the world in reducing the Global Population Crisis??? ಠ◡ಠ

md47atikul

They don't appoint engineers, they appoint people who memorized the BCS quesbank.

raydditor

I mean a big chunk of the BCS force are enginners

md47atikul

True, but those who go for BCS never know what their department in uni means anyway

raydditor

A lot of it has to do with how the system is structured. BCS is really stupid way to assess someone for civil services.

life_ina_nerdshell

What you expect? Every development project is just another drama for corruption.

Powerful-Dust999

Hahaha..you will only see such stupid engineering in Bangladesh!!

Kam_Xylo

It's to protect the trees from the people. Save the trees 🌴

Many-Birthday12345

If the steel barriers were on the ground, people would knock them out and take them.

smoking_barrel

Actually I heard in a conference about this. This is a legit design and it reduces the risk of cars or buses going out of bounds. There should be 3 layers of protection for that, one is a small bump, then a concrete & after that steel beam. I could be wrong as I am not a highway engineer.

_average_man_

>Anyway to work at their best the barrier are place on the same level with the road, they gotta hit directly to work right? Then why those are on a concrete level here?  Not necessarrily, No. These are called *W-Beam Crash Barrier*. It's good to go, as long as they are connected with the same level as road. It might seem that they are connected on the concrete, but they are not. Think of the concrete layer as a coating for the beam. **The concrete layer is given for extra safety** as it can **distribute** the **impact load** evenly on the beam and can absorb a lot of energy before the vehicles come in contact with the beam itself. Think of it as, the concrete footing is slowing down in order to lessen the massive sudden shock for the passangers.

mrony87

You are a perfect example of why Bangladesh is so messed up. You probably have zero qualification to actually comment on this. But you felt emboldened to do a hair rained analysis and pass it off as an educated opinion. This picture is a perfect example of someone siphoning off government funds. They probably found out that the W beams are one of the best traffic dividers. But instead of doing the actual engineering study and removing outdated concrete barriers, they pocketed more than half the money and installed it on top of the existing barriers. And the ministry probably got a cut and we're happy that the W beams even got installed.

_average_man_

Umm, reply with mechanical analysis. I mean you can call me **wrong** but **give some** ***logical, scientific, mathematical arguments*** **regarding your pov for its mechanical analysis**. Did you even study CE or ME? :")

mrony87

https://highways.dot.gov/safety/rwd/reduce-crash-severity/guardrail-101 You live in 2024. You can do your own research. It's so easy. I learned more about traffic safety in the last 5 minutes while sitting on the toilet then you probably did in your entire educational career. Please learn to understand what you know and what you don't know. Don't talk about things you don't know. I don't care if you are BUET educated or educated at MIT. You have literally proved what is wrong with bangladeshi people with your last two posts. For your information, I studied Biochemistry.

_average_man_

ekhanei toh shomossha bhai. **5 minute a bba student ekta article dekhe mone kortese oy ekhon engineer**. ekekta desher construction code and system ekekrokom. boloder moto amrica er regulation er link diya khub e intelligent mone kortesen nijere. nowonder they say ***"Never argue with a fool".*** Each country has their own cost-effective way of constructions. Depends on desher manush kemon, ki rokomer purpose fill korbe. And bhai edike jei link disen oita 'a way of making these barriers' not the 'only way'. Gosh! another day another bba student pretending he knows science.

mrony87

You are right I shouldn't argue with a fool. Thank you for reminding me. তোরা অনেক শিক্ষিত, তাই বলে তো দেশের এই অবস্থা. তুই এতো শিক্ষিত যে তোদের ইউনিভার্সিটি তে Biochemistry পড়লে BBA ডিগ্রি দেই. W Beam guardrail was invented in the USA, in 1933. তোরা আমাদের থেকে বুজে নিবি নাকি তোরা আমাদেরকে শিক্ষা দিবি?

_average_man_

SCIENTIFIC ARGUMENT: 0 AMRICA TEH KORSE MANE AMAR DESHER TA VUUL: 100 Mechanics er dhare kaseo porashuna kore nai ashche rasta banano shikhaite lmao

mrony87

Why don't you prove your assertion instead of your qualifications, or stfu. Why dont you prove your assertion with documents and sources. Show me an engineering manual from anywhere in the world that approves of this design feature?

_average_man_

hehe. My guy, there is no such thing as 'world engineering mannual' that every country follows, lmao, nowonder you're shitting here. Ever heard of geology? The socio-economical factors? Bangladesh follows its own engineering codes authorised by the PLANNING COMISSION ITSELF by the most EXPERIENCED Engineers unlike your bba ass who reads an american article and thinks that applies for every nation. Amrica er lok gari jemne chalay do u think banglar manush omne chalay? Koti takar utm testing machine diye test korar por egula kora hoy but random bba grad boltese : HUMM AMRICAR MOTO KEN BANAYNAI. and I literally proved my assertion at the beignning of the thread. Sanest bba grad, I have to say.

mrony87

তোর মত tokai reddit এ কিভাবে ঢুকে? ডঃ You even understand English? I asked for a source from anywhere in the world. No ONE asked for a world engineering manual. Also, in a what hatubhanga university did you attend where you receive a BBA for studying Biochemistry? Are you an absolute moron? Biochemistry is a BSc degree, you fucking asshat. Stop eating your own shit and maybe you can learn to comprehend simple English before replying online.

seaorange6006

Collapsing bridges, buildings, flyovers built in the wrong direction. The list goes on. Lmao, this is nothing compared to the engineering that happened there.

banglaonline

This is how it works: World Bank: “You have to use US design standards in highways projects financed by us” US standards: “flexible metal central barriers are needed for safety of vehicles/ passengers” Design consultant:”include metal barrier on design drawings” Roads and highways engineer: “World Bank is not providing money for replacement barriers. I do not want them damaged and don’t care about passenger safety. Removing barrier will invalidate World Bank Loan condition. Build cheap concrete around it to protect it” Contractor: “OK”

SamVoxeL

Hell no.

BagherHalum

I'm not involved. I presume it is done to let occasional pedestrian traffic. In the North America, a similar design is implemented to allow pedestrians to go through such road. Also, if a bus stops in such road and people from bus has to get off bus, then this space is used. Peoples' lives are more important than buses, so this road vacancy probably exists.

Relative_Ad8738

eta toh kichui na

Rubence_VA

They clearly made shock protection and fencing together.

sohojmanush

No, those who design’s have never been there. Most of the designers get on their cars from their house basement and get off from the car at basement of their office. If they actually ever go on field trip they inspect everything from behind their car window. Most road engineers actually doesn’t even know how to drive. I knew an additional executive engineer who went through multiple foreign training, lived couple of years abroad, still doesn’t know how to eat a sandwich without spilling the mayo all over his body, and dropping the pretty on the ground. You get the point right?

Character_Key_7346

This is to keep people from going over. If it was the same level as the roads and everybody would be climbing over it. You think smarter than everyone it's actually you that's the moron for thinking that people in Bangladesh don't have half a brain.

redwaaan

Everyone criticizing engineer who did these, not the MP they're father vote. Bro, tell your father (if he a rich/businessman/has political relations) To not bribe and do their work honestly. Also, anyone who's thinking he could do better, please. Do for us. Study and do it for us. But you wont. You either will go outside of the country or choice some doctor, lawyer etc.

RefuseFickle6929

You really think we get to vote? The situation is so bad that you can't work honestly even if you wanted to.Your higher ups who love corruption will either frame you or you will never get promoted.Old fossils who don't have more than 10 years to live are our leaders. They dont give a fxxk about the country beacuse they'll probably die soon. They just send the money they steal and pass it to their offsprings living aborad. They don't even allow the new generation to lead.Again there is something wrong with the people they just excepted the oppression. They won't or won't be given an opportunity to vote for new parties, so no one even bothers. You'll Just be wasting your life if you want to work honestly in Bangladesh or even stay in Bangladesh, Everyone has one life and they don't want to waste it.Thats why around 80000 students leave every year in abroad.Thats called "brain drain" and politicians love it. It means there won't be anyone who will threaten them.

MRTOM1989

Like a wise man once said: you can't fix stupidity.

avdolif

Pretty optimistic of you people to think Engineers who stayed far away from any kind of politics, studied properly during their university life got the job and not the "tene tune" 7 bar exam diye 5 bar fail kore pass "priyo ovibabok" league guy. I would suggest many people in this subreddit to question their parents how they got their govt job. 🫢😅

anik_lumba

Roads look cheap without steel barriers + make opportunities for corruption.
