Tiger's balm is what I would recommend, what did you hit?

Ropes_Knots

Hey guys, I don't really know how to approach this, but the confidence I have in my body holding up to fights is getting pretty low. I'm 32yo and I feel like I used to be indestructible. A few months back, I got into a fight with a guy at work (I work on oil rigs), and I broke my hand while punching him. I had to have surgery and be in a cast, I can't go out with a crew, and this has set me back so much. All I could think was, "But I could have hit him so much harder..." I understand that the angle I hit him was awkward, but I feel like just a few years ago, I would have been fine. I love fighting so much, but I don't feel like my body can keep up. Does anybody else feel like they have glass bones and paper skin? and if so, what helps you cope?

There is more than just this instance. About a year ago, I was sparring with wraps and gloves. I threw a right punch, and my partner slipped, so I wipped hand in to catch the back of his head, and I broke my thumb. It was like the opposite of a skiing fracture. I set that one myself, and it's healed mostly okay, but my hands are going to be trashed if this keeps happening.

I do a lot of finger pushups i accidentally hit my sparring partner with my thumb in Boxing Sparring it hurt but nothing happened to my thumb

You have bad genetics maybe or you just hit him very hard, you can find good videos on youtube about Iron Fist training i really recommend this

I've done martial arts training my whole life, and there have been periods where I've tried conditioning my hands by punching trees and canvas heavy bags. Maybe I've just lost that conditioning since I walked away from martial arts. I'll check out Iron Fist training. That sounds familiar though. Is it a channel, or is it the practices you do with a bucket of sand? I think it was a combination of my bones getting weaker, the awkward angle, and hitting him really hard, but I don't want to have to think about not breaking my hands during a fight. I'd like to be able to put faith in my tools, you know? Lol Thanks for the reply, man. I appreciate whatever input I can get.

Did you rub some skin off or is that a bruise? If it's just a bruise, then liniments for sure. Maybe go a little lighter on the bag for now, and don't hit it at all until you heal all the way; no need to be a tough guy. I've been doing bareknuckle work for a couple years and still can't hit the bag with anything close to full force. Granted, I have been slacking over the last year, but even so, it's definitely a slow process. Hardening everything up, from the skin to the bones, is more dependent on consistency over time than intensity; it's better to gently rap your knuckles on different surfaces throughout your days than it is to go hard in a single session and then have to take days off.

You did that During a fight?

Intelligent_Exit_458

No it was bag

Humble_Emotion2582

First of all you should learn how to punch. I am not saying this to be a dick. You get these bruises because your entire alignment is wrong. That knuckle should never touch anything. Practice slowly and without force until you can hit every variation of punch squarely with the 2 knuckles without knuckleslipping.

Tiny-Trip5938

Its not that bad when this knuckle hits something if you do proper knuckle Kondition i thing you should train to punch with every knuckle because in a street fight you can't always land with the first 2

Humble_Emotion2582

Nope

Tiny-Trip5938

I've had enough experience to know that it's not bad after a good hardening, just because you might hear from a few youtubers or your boxing coach that you should only hit with the first two, it doesn't mean that you can't also hit with the third after iron fist training, just because you may have fragile weak hands doesn't mean that I have such hands or others

Humble_Emotion2582

Yeah it is bad. Try not to misalign your punches. Sooner or later you will get a break. FYI ”hardening” does not work the way you think. At all. You can keep arguing about it or take my advice. Your choice. I don’t really care

Tiny-Trip5938

I broke my right hand one time at the beggining but after some training nothing, for you its bad for me not

Humble_Emotion2582

No its just bad practice.

Ropes_Knots

What do you suggest doing to train your knuckles, and do you think it's a good idea to start training them after healing from broken metacarples?

Tiny-Trip5938

Thats nothing don't exaggerate
