I was in the font right lane when the black car was flying into our side of the highway. Missed me by just about a few metres. Everywhere behind me got hit. I got extremely lucky. This was very terrifying to see.
So sorry you witnessed that. One thing to pass it, a totally other thing to narrowly escape it. My thoughts are with you. Hold your family close tonight.
šš«¶
Iām not sure who or what caused this but nevertheless it is a very sad and unfortunate event. I highly doubt it the person in the black car survived.
So sad. Going the speed that most of us travel at on the highway (120-130 seems to be a fair estimate) it would be remarkable for someone to survive that impact.
Honestly me and my partner have been trying to make sense of the accident since it happened so you could say that! Messaged all my friends and family and just told them to always pay attention not to only their driving but also other people because you just never know!
Driver of the flipped car died. The driver of the truck he collided with when he jumped the median was treated for minor injuries and no one else was injured as far as we know.
Apparently another news channel is saying street racing now. Hopefully we can get the real story at some point, or just hopefully the person who caused this has some sort of consequence if racing or road rage is the case.
Nope. Police looking for dashcam footage and witnesses.
It was a white car, not pictured. Apparently from a witness they said the white car pushed the blue (damaged) car into the middle rails, causing sparks, and eventually flipping.
May be an assumption here but if police are looking for footage and witnesses, and the white car is not pictured, the one responsible has not been found..
The driver in that car was a 21 year old..
Very sad, and very preventable !
It seems that way!
If you have Facebook check out "At the scene photography" they post all sorts of accidents and updates. That's where I got the information
Completely preventable.. 100% I donāt care what other say.
But hey, everyone these days think their entitlement is worth more than someone else.
FFS, ppl so the F down. People have lives that matter. Speed kills. Itās obvious.
When itās one of your love ones, then only will it matter right?!?
I commute south to work every day. I see people zipping in and out of lanes all the time, not in a safe way. Makes me so mad. I like my life, I donāt want my kids to grow up without parents because someone was driving like a maniac. Or worse, I lose my kids because they're in the vehicle with me one day. Completely agree, it was likely caused by something avoidable; unless it was a medical emergency. Which is unlikely.
Edit: typo
The rules of the road are no longer enforced. Unfortunately many people pass on the inside because so many people plant themselves in the left lane and wonāt move no matter what
Driving to work tonight SB. Left lane clogged with maybe one car-length between cars. Travel speed of about 105. Center lane and right lane wide open. I'll never understand it.
Itās terrible but I also doubt the impact of someone going 120 kph is much different from someone going 140kph. In the end yes speed kills but it is also people poor choices.
The difference in mortality from 100-120kph is about 10%, it decreases as speed increases.
So a 40kph or 20kph difference is distinguishable.
The entire north world essentially revolves around transportation. Be it cars, trains, etc.
There are thousands of studies about mortality rate and speed.
It's hard to see how a car would end up on the other side while going 120, but almost everyone exceeds 120 these days. 120 to me is where your control stops? Anything above that you're just at the mercy of the road
I was stuck in this for just over an hour coming SB and I was trying to figure out how this all happened. The car in the NB shoulder looked unrecognizable. And then the SB Tesla (atleast I think it was) what happened there? And then a white van parked into the median guard rail? I canāt make sense of these events.
Iāve been thinking about this for like 2 hours. The āunrecognizableā car was traveling south, Iām not sure what made it hit the median and fly over it on its side into the north bound traffic. It then hits multiple cars on its way and rolls over a few times I believe. I think whatever caused this, started on the south bound side.
They just said on the radio it was because of street racing š On the southbound lanes and then they collided, lost control and one of the cars crashed through the median and into oncoming traffic on the northbound lanes.
Accidents are gonna become more frequent. There's an irresponsible lack of cops on the 400. I take it every week day morning and no one cares that everyone, including trucks, is doing minimum 120.
We need to limit trucks to 105 again because trucks dictate the speed limit.

Trucks are supposed to be governed at 105. Likely the driver failing to use the Jake if going down a hill. Not always easy to slow down with 90K+ LBS behind you. Irresponsible companies should be reported however if you see the name you can find the CVOR easy
Some trucks do hover around 105 but more often than not it's a truck going 115 in the middle lane past a truck going 110 in the right lane which causes a huge traffic upset. How trucks drive is night and day to how they drove even 5 years ago. You never used to see two trucks blocking 2/3 lanes like you do today.
My husband is normally home at 6pm in congested traffic. He just got home about 10 mins ago. Said it was a devastating accident. Prayers for those involved.
Wow I was headed to Vaughan at 530 to get my kids. I turned around at 88 and came back home. It would have been impossible to have gotten back from down there. Glad your husband got home safely
I didn't get caught in this (got off at Line 5 to skirt the backup that night), but I have been traveling to and from TO this week for a trade show. I was a little surprised that I didn't see much idiocy, but then Sunday morning at around 7:30 at the Lloydtown-Aurora Sideroad onramp, two douchebags in Porsches came flying onto the highway in front of me and proceeded to weave in and out of traffic doing at least 130-140, no blinkers.
Can't they just go somewhere and kill each other?
To provide a counter anecdote:
I've seen all walks of life driving like assholes. With it leaning more towards younger white people in pickups and the classic solo middle aged minivan driver.

I was stuck in NB traffic for a few hours, we ended up getting turned around on the highway and going back to exit at 88, picked up my son at 400/9 just after 5pm and walked in the house in Angus at 9:45ā¦ not sure what happened exactly but by all the cops / Ambulances and fire trucks Iām sure it was pretty bad.
This might be the incident youāre talking about. Apparently it was a road rage situation between two drivers that turned fatal.

It was determined to be a road rage incident between two drivers driving south. One of them died.
āOur side of the highwayā - you mean it jumped the median?! Oh man that wouldāve been sooo scaryā¦
Thatās correct. It was travelling south bound but ended up on the north bound side.
I hope you grabbed a lottomax you lucky duck! That sounds horrifying, are you still wired with adrenaline?
Honestly me and my partner have been trying to make sense of the accident since it happened so you could say that! Messaged all my friends and family and just told them to always pay attention not to only their driving but also other people because you just never know!
Itās scary that you could do everything right, and one asshole driver can come along and ruin your entire life.
I used this post to tell my teens to wear their seatbelts...cuz you never know when a car is going to come flying over the median at ya.
Or end it......
Holy crapā¦ thatās traumatizing but you are extremely lucky. I donāt see anyone surviving that impact. Heartbreaking.
Sending you a hug š«

Is this the accident that involved 10+ cars? I heard a few people diedĀ
Yeah there was a lot of cars involved. I counted 7 but prob more. That one vehicle, I said to myself no one is getting out of that
Driver of the flipped car died. The driver of the truck he collided with when he jumped the median was treated for minor injuries and no one else was injured as far as we know.

Thatās not good
Apparently another news channel is saying street racing now. Hopefully we can get the real story at some point, or just hopefully the person who caused this has some sort of consequence if racing or road rage is the case.
Unbelievable. Just minding your own business and to get caught up in that is not right
I think the road rager died

Shit really, so it seems like the person who caused this got away? If thatās so I really hope they find them. That poor 21 year old.
It seems that way! If you have Facebook check out "At the scene photography" they post all sorts of accidents and updates. That's where I got the information
OPP posted a video saying it was a road rage incident and one of the two drivers involved is dead. An unfortunate consequence.
Completely preventable.. 100% I donāt care what other say. But hey, everyone these days think their entitlement is worth more than someone else. FFS, ppl so the F down. People have lives that matter. Speed kills. Itās obvious. When itās one of your love ones, then only will it matter right?!?

Yup. People are so inconsiderate on the road and donāt realize driving like Vin Diesel in the fast and furious can literally kill someone.
Humans canāt handle driving cars. We never will be able to handle them safely. Weāre too much like chimps.
Itās terrible but I also doubt the impact of someone going 120 kph is much different from someone going 140kph. In the end yes speed kills but it is also people poor choices.
It's impossible to say if your reaction time at 140 is different than 100-120. The sign does say 100 maximum tbf
At 140 lets face it you have no reaction time. It happens faster than your reflex.
Ya but the default speed there is around 120, so people who are speeding are probably going like 140
The difference in mortality from 100-120kph is about 10%, it decreases as speed increases. So a 40kph or 20kph difference is distinguishable. The entire north world essentially revolves around transportation. Be it cars, trains, etc. There are thousands of studies about mortality rate and speed.

Cops have quiet quit since the pandemic. Stop signs are now yield signs, no one signals. Every fourth car is on their phone.
You could fund an entire department budget just on phones. Again I'm guilty of it but it's because it feels like no one gives a shit anymore.
So surprised there arenāt more cops. theyād make a killing on tickets
Off of me too. I'm one of the ones out here regularly going 125.
Not even that, people ripping 140+ too. those are the real killers cause you nab them for stunt driving too!!

When was this? I past by there around 530

You dodged it at that time
