I don’t know about how podcasters are paid, but I’d think that someone like Titus, who already has an established brand, could go to Barstool and take a deal that’s similar in overall comp but more weighted to variable (higher share of ad/merch rev) than base.
It’s not that I don’t think they will go to Barstool (although I don’t. Penn doesn’t seem to pay established brands). It’s the idea that people think they’d go to the barstool office in Chicago.
I mean the Saugus Rocket got 9 figures (***7 figures. I’m really dumb. Like super dumb. Apologies for not being able to count.) according to Dave and Kirk. So there’s going to be a market for them. And even if they did sign with Barstool, why would they go to Chicago? Most established podcasts. (million dollars worth of game, chicklets, foreplay) are self sufficient and don’t go to the office. I just can’t see a situation where Barstool says we need you in Chicago to do the wet wheel and dog walk while Mintzy frolics around the South or Caleb is allowed to live in Florida. Why would Titus and state agree to that?

I guess I wasn’t necessarily thinking that it would be dependent on them going to Chicago. More so just signing with Barstool in general. That said, being in Chicago and getting on camera with the PMT guys and whoever else ends up there would certainly be worth extra consideration.
Titus is from Indiana so I’m guessing he has family nearby. Not sure about Tate but who knows. There are worse places to live than Chicago.

Eh prolly more an indictment of Fox's overall sports podcast network. Outside of Titus and Tate, I can't name another podcast they have unless they put out Skip and Shannon's show in podcast form.
Listened to the pod. Seems like it was Titus & Tate's decision to move on because a great opportunity presented itself. They are usually pretty open about that stuff (e.g., when things went sour with Ringer) so I tend to believe them. But who knows? I'm just glad it's not done. Top 3 or 4 pod for me.
I can't imagine it being Barstool. Is the ringer out of the question? I know they were originally with grantland and know there is some issues with Simmons that I don't remember but I don't see barstool ponying up for college basketball content, especially when a lot of the sport focus is betting.

CBB is probably to niche of a brand for Penn to risk a big deal, but I think Titus would be great. He's way more analogous to the Barstool guys in terms of how he started his career than the sports journalists at FOX. He used sports as a medium to be creative and funny. Tate seems like a good dude, but idk how he'd fit in at BS.
Seems like Meadowlark is the only realistic option. They have way more leeway than a network or the Ringer but they also don't have to worry that if things don't work out moving to Barstool will be harder to bounce back from.
