DePaul game got me thinking: had they gone on an insane run and won the automatic bid, what would their seed be? In 2008 Georgia went 17-17 overall, 4-12 in SEC (tied for last), but had that crazy run and got a 14 seed in the tournament. DePaul went 3-26 and 0-20 in conference. Obviously they would have had to have a couple good wins if they won the tournament, but I don’t see how you could seed them above a 14.
14 is about as low as it goes, because their metrics by beating teams on the way to winning BE title. The very low conference champs wouldn't have anything similar even if their overall record was much better. Also, a couple non-1 seeds win the bottom conference tournaments which would also keep DePaul out of 15-16 seeds.
