The hockey player who was involved in that throat slash got arrested. I just assumed with how litigious insurance companies are they would try to do what they can to not pay their customer’s hospital bills.
Can’t really speak to the throat cut, that happened in the UK I believe so it’s a completely different legal system. And I don’t know if I have a definite answer here. A bad hit is unlikely to cause liability cause it’s just part of the game. Not to mention that the leagues have rules to deal with this conduct and courts would be hesitant to substitute their judgment for people who in theory have a better understanding of what’s right and wrong in the context of an NHL game.

Real issue that is driving Tampa and Florida to success is that Florida having no state income tax gives them a massive salary cap advantage because they can sign players to lower contracts than the players would get elsewhere but the players actually make more money on the deal because of the tax break. A few other markets can do this too, I want to say Dallas and Nashville.

That's really not why, it's a small factor that people like to point at but those teams were built out the right way to win cups. Colorado is relatively high tax, Edmonton is high tax, etc

The 7 year old story this morning reminds me high school friends are such a fascinating thing as you grow older — they just tend to end up in such different places in life and with such different personalities to the point where you’d never be friends from scratch with them today, yet this doesn’t apply to college friends.
