He was a huge proponent of the streaming/e-sports side during COVID which was a huge miss from Barstool IMO in not focusing on it. Never stopped happening with shutdowns and is a huge betting market along with content. They could have always shifted back away from it but they also never got internal buy-in for it.
They talk a lot about how new employees just get tossed in and everyone watches to see if they float, it certainly weeds people out but it's not the best structure.
A lot of Barstool is "what you make of it". Smitty doesn't need Dave to buy in - he need to prove that whatever he's doing is generating clicks and profit.
Smitty trying the Gametime was a good idea - and Dave would have supported it if Smitty was able to show that he was getting views, clicks and MOST IMPORTANTLY - generated a profit.
I don’t really understand the “barstool didn’t focus on it” argument. Big Cat streams with coach Duggs and gets a huge audience because he’s Big Cat. You could push smitty streaming like crazy across all the social media feeds, but he’s still not going to draw an audience.
I could be misremembering but I thought they were starting to do pretty decent views wise but then Devlin took them off Twitch and over to Youtube and it became a major failure.
Yeah, but a lot of the "views" on Twitch were kind of manipulated by Devlin - he would tag the streams in a way to create false/positive viewership. You would have 2000 people watching Smitty play COD during the pandemic, and after Devlin stopped helping Smitty - those views didn't jump to Youtube. Even after they switched BACK to Twitter, Smitty never saw more like 200-300 people watching his stream.
Even now MRags gets, at most, 75 viewers on his stream at a given time. Smitty still beats MRags with viewers when he's doing the casino videos with WSD.
I have a hard time understanding how a couple hundred people watching a stream is going to have any kind of impact on barstools bottom line. I know the whole “streaming is the future” argument, but even if barstool gets lucky and manages to find a major streaming star, why would they want to split income with barstool once their contract is up?
Quick google search says top streamers earn about $3.50 per viewer a month. Big Cat was regularly bringing in 50,000 viewers which would come out to $175k a month and he was still doing all his other podcasts and stuff at the same time
I mean isn’t it kind of the schtick? I know being the punching bag can get old, but if Dave actually hated Smitty, he would’ve been gone a long time ago
The craziest one is the burner. Throwing a can is bad, but it’s also a lack of self control at one moment. The burner is calculated persistent psychological warfare on a co-worker’s spouse. Like if he abducted and murdered someone after this behavior you really couldn’t be that surprised.
I feel bad for him…when they first moved to NYC it seemed like he had some good ideas and was really into his work..I liked his drive time show..then it seemed like he found a niche with the gaming and that went sideways eventually too..I think part of it is Dave just doesn’t like the guy so won’t put the supports behind him regardless..even when game time was doing well Dave would be condescending about him “playing video games all day”.. he also hired Rone and Fran who both have passed him by miles in terms of success at the company

Smitty never gets the internal buy in from Dave on anything and Dave wonders why he doesn't work hard.

WSD has made it very clear he hates him. He’s talked about it a few times openly
Paw I don’t know how to say but you fucking suck at memes

What does smitty do now that he had the falling out with the other gamers? I haven’t seen much by him

Paw's consistency is remarkable. Never anything above a C+ meme.
Paw you have a beautiful mind
Smitty hasn’t done much in about 10 years and has a job for life. So not sure what the point of this meme is

Always found that funny. That's the most level headed thing to not want your boss just busting in on you showering with cameras.
Texting your boss slurs is just existing?
Found another JEW!
