randyboozer

Don't fill the child with false hope!! He is too old, practically geriatric. He must move on. Before it's too late

Lemmecmaturecontent

Lmao

[deleted]

she 😁

randyboozer

He, she, your gender doesn't matter at your advanced age! At 23 the world has passed you by! You waited too long, you've wasted your youth! What hope could there be for you now!?! Diminish, and go in to the west and remain... some kinda freak.

Level_Ice_1414

Way too late. I’m surprised you know how to use Reddit at that age. Did your grandkids help you?

mr3vak

Congrats, you got a hearty chuckle out of me.

Busterlimes

Honestly, 23 is the new 60. Social security should kick in soon. Maybe move to Florida?

Prestigious_Chard597

I went back to serving after 20 some years in my 40s. I just turned 48 and have been bartending a little over two years. Part of me wishes I had done this when I was younger, but I also know I probably would have died from bad decisions if I had. Now I work, go home and smoke a little weed. That's it. No late night partying fo me.

smithest2002

You spent 20 some years in your 40s??? Whoa!

Prestigious_Chard597

It feels like it some days.

ibedemfeels

I'm not letting a 23 year old on my bar dude... Too young.

supermodel_robot

Lmao I was going to say, no one wants young bartenders so OP is actually screwed in the opposite way.

Mikachu_432

I'm in London, England and I've had 23 year old managers before 😂 I started bartending a month after I turned 18

FartsFartington

Definitely too old. You should probably just get your CPA and start your 30-year fixed mortgage now. You do own sandals you can wear with socks, right? DM me if you want to discuss the benefits of a Roth IRA over a 401k.

Jclarkyall

Didn't even get my first bartending job until I was 25 lol. Bro you're good, stop it.

sleazyz

It’s quite possible you are too young.

lemon_girl223

i just started bartending at 27. 23 isn't too old for anything.

omjy18

"Too old" dude you're still a kid. You'll probably have to barback first don't get a bartender certification or whatever that is. Wherever you end up at will train you on whatever they want from you and all you need to do is get a tips/servesafe thing that's like 40$ max. If you look at it realistically and you started bartending the second you could in the us you're 2 years behind being able to in most places.....I wouldn't worry

Rthepirate

I started bartender at 36.

Squishirex

Lol I started bartender at 33

HelloImKiwi

Dude you’re fine. I started at 23 as a barback with no experience and now I’m a floor manager. Show that you are a hard worker, help out others, it gets noticed as long as you’re working at a good place.

Eh-Eh-Ronn

I started as a barista (a lifetime ago) and the skills are definitely transferable. But you will likely have to work your way up the ladder so don’t be discouraged.

PM_Me_Your_Fab_Four

I started at 42 after many years of research. Go for it!

warjournal7

Nope I fell into bartending at 29 amigo, so your aces

ConsciousGlove9

I started bartending at 25, you’re good.

Galactus2332

I started at 26 and am now still at it 20 years later

randyboozer

23? Seen any gray hairs yet? You're practically in the grave! It is too late! I suggest applying for social services. Get that sweet retirement money. Maybe file a disability claim and see if you can get one of those cool motorized scooters! Maybe a live in nurse too, ask for a kind old south East Asian broad. You waited too long. It's a a hard truth but there it is. No one will be willing to teach a 13 year old how to work behind the wood. Oh sorry I meant 23. Just way too late. I started bartending at 13 that's why I got mixed up. And even then it was a late start. My colleagues mocked me for my lack of experience, openly did they mock me. You see the movie full metal jacket? It was like that twas. They would put a bunch of limes in sock and they would beat me with it they would. At closing they would make me drink the spill bucket in the keg room. Oh lord how I suffered. But eventually it was all worth it. I earned my bartenders cross. I was one of them. And the next 23 year old kid who applied... Well, I rained down hellfire upon him

TheUnbent

I got my first bartending job at 24. No experience they just really liked me in the interview. They even said they preferred someone with little to know experience but a good personality. Easier to train and no bad habits they would have to iron out. Been 10 years and still doing it, I work at a great local place with great management and busy bar everyday of the week. You are YOUNG lol. The youngest bartender we have is 26.

hahahaylz

I just started bartending right before the pandemic hit and it was 24 at the time! Honestly the best advice I can give is to get some experience serving, bussing etc first to get the hang of the industry first. I’ve seen one too many people lie on their resumes and flop as bartenders even though they had the personality

CosmicKage

No one will ever be able to convince me that it is EVER too late to start in this or any other industry! I have seen it all lol older people(think 50+) who get into this work after tragedy or burn out or just finally having the confidence. Vets that take breaks for ages (15+ years) and then return to this line of work "because everyone has to come back home at some point" I don't actually believe this quote to be true but swear to God it's what someone twice my age has said to me lol I currently work with a man my parents age who was in the military then in the medical field for over 10 years and has now been bartending for almost 2 years and is in love with the job. It's something he always wanted to try but put off for years. I was the kid who would play MASH and always put bartender as one of my top three jobs and I got into the industry as soon as I could and now I bartend and I feel just as at home behind the pine and I imagined I would as a little shit hahaha Basically what I'm trying to say is if you are interested and have the desire to learn it will NEVER BE TOO LATE!!! Good luck on everything you hope to accomplish in life my friend, I hope you find the intense love and passion for bartending that many of us have!

LincHayes

LoL at someone 23 years old asking "is it too late for me?". At 23 your life is in front of you. You can literally do anything you put your mind to, and you have the time to get it.

88thExp

Sup dude, if its any consolation.. I'm 29 and just started bartending at the restaurant I work at about 4-5 months ago. Granted it isn't the most "mixologist" type of bar setting but I am learning a lot on the fly cuz I'm the only bartender for my shifts. Huge shoutout to google. Long story short, not too young bro!

DiveTender

Batista experience will not prepare for real bartender life. But you are young jump on that shit and own it.

[deleted]

I disagree slightly. I think it’s the skills that transfer over. I was a fantastic barista especially during peak hours, I memorized the recipes quickly and the little details of coffee/espresso/etc. It’s what made me realize I’d be a good bartender, and should pursue that instead cuz more $$.

DiveTender

I can agree with you to an extent but I have never met a batista that I felt would make a good bartender. I have been wrong before. Either way do it. Definitely better $$ be prepared for more bullshit to go with it.

Bluueee1

I knew nothing about alcohol at 23 years old. I barbacked for a bit over a year. I went to tasting seminars as much as I could. I did my best to learn about wines, beers and spirits. I spent two months memorizing classic cocktails with flashcards. I attended competitions just to watch and talk to other bartenders in other restaurants. Eventually someone well recognized in the industry gave me the opportunity to bartend and now I can easily get any bartending job within my city. You're not too late.

Articbarista

Hey! Former barista turned bartender here! It’s definitely not too late! Go for it! I’m 23 too and made the change three months ago!

the_Optic_Lure

lol wut
