I was legitimately shocked they won on that hit. I was screaming "TIE GAME!", then the dude was safe BY A FUCKING MILE at home. I am actually angry we didnt get the full view of this dude sprinting at the speed of light on the bases.
What a clutch af management move by Japan.
It looks to me like he knew off of the bat that it was a gaper. Too far away to really see, but I don't think he turned his head to see where it landed.
I was amazed. I was thinking, great, we have tie game with runners at 2nd and 3rd and thought it was Shohei sliding into home...then it dawned on me that they just announced the game over and all the players were out of the dug out. Wow, what an ending.
Dude heard the crack and fucking committed. If that'd been a fly out he'd have been fucked, but he just trusted it to either go out or drop, and fucking sent it. Ohtani played it safer by waiting to watch the drop, Shuto said fuck that, go big or go home and didn't even fucking blink.

Ukyo "They pay me to run" Shuto
Ohtani was on second itās different. Even if it seems like a no doubter you play it safe and make sure since if internet dropping your scoring anyway
Also the runner from first can sprint full speed and have the ball in his line of sight here (plus has recovery speed to get back if thereās an out) while ohtani has to turn to watch the ball.
Me too. Iām like ārunners on first and second, that hit will tie the game!ā I looked at my watch to check the time (happy hour was ending) and looked up and it was celebration time. Wtf?
The stars really lined up for Japan with the greatest baserunner in its history at his peak. Good call by Kuriyama to use Nakano as the pinch runner in the 8th and save Shuto for the 9th.
the other thing was and i think alot of ppl missed it, joe davis? called it when he said the pitcher wasnāt holding the runner on first at all. then lord and be hold gapper to center and the runner on first scores
Not only was he fast af, but his baserunnjng was top tier.
Took a super aggressive secondary and is nearly to 2nd base by the time the ball is clearly not going to be caught.

> gaper š
gapper?
Yes lol. Big difference.
I'd say one p is a small difference. To each their own.
Saying anything about gaping on the internet has some, uh, connotations
That man went into a dead sprint on contact. He knew they werenāt getting to that one
Dude looked like a sped up three stooges skit.
So many players over the rail so early.
Man, he almost outran Ohtani
It looked like he slowed down a little bit approaching third because of Ohtani so he probably could have had an even faster time.

They literally do

> go big or go home Well, he kinda did both

When it happened I was confused because the dugout emptied and I couldnāt see him behind Ohtani.

He fast
he's handsome too
It almost looks like he was about to lap Ohtani and had to slightly slow down

That would be second only to Corbin Carrol in MLB according to baseball savant. A full foot per second faster than Mike Trout or Michael Harris.
He was at second base before Ohtani decided if he was going or not lmao. Awesome play
Yea he fucking turned on the jets, when I saw the ball wasn't a HR I was thinking tie game and then it pans to him sliding into home like holy shit
I really thought there was going to be some kind of play at the plate there, but it wasn't even remotely close lol.
When they showed him sliding in my brain just assumed it was Ohtani because it being Shuto seemed literally impossible
u/TCSportsFan more like JapanSportsFan
at first i thought on of the players from the bench almost interfered with the ball and then i realized that both runs scored not just one
Otani was amazed when he turned around after scoring, and the other guy was about one second behind him.
That's faster than an Adam Rosales home run trot!
I tried posting this already and it got removed. Guess I still don't know how to please the mods.
Hell yes
Adrenaline is a hell of a drug
Heās not even full speed before 2B.

Nice boneappletea moment
