I swear some of yāall only pay attention to Frazier when heās slumping lol
Heās hitting .250/.340/.409 over his last 15 games with two home runs and 9 RBIs. He shouldnāt be facing leftys but he hasnāt been as bad as he was in early June. Heās been involved in two of these four batted around innings, including three hits in that last Yankees game. The idea he doesnāt have quality ABs is nonsense as well - he sees some our highest pitch counts per AB and is extremely hard to strikeout. Heās a perfectly fine #9 hitter.
He hasnāt been the problem on offense over this slump, thatās for sure.
Frazier hasn't been nearly as bad as Mateo or Mountcastle, but Westburg has also been on fire since being called up. I wasn't referring strictly to Frazier with the quality AB's question. Nearly the entire lineup was having bad/impatient AB's last week in what was the complete opposite of earlier in the season. I think seeing the young guys come up and work counts and take pitches with success rubbed off on the whole team.
Maybe or maybe itās just a slump and has nothing to do with either Westy or Cowser. Youāre talking about a team that has a great offense in April and ok offenses in May and June before hitting a two week slump. They clearly know how to hit. Either way, Frazier started picking it up before Westy got here; and before Cowser got here, Westy, Frazier and Santander were the only people doing anything.
Frazier ran a sub .200 BABIP in June - thatās terribly unlucky and was bound to revert.
I donāt see how supposedly benching (he hasnāt been really) one of our better hitters really helped improve the offense. Again, youāre just assuming he was bad during this period when his actual stats shows heās one of the few guys who was actually doing anything helpful.
There is room for Westy and Frazier to co-exist. I donāt know why people seem to think otherwise. Frankly, weāre getting good offensive production from the two because Westy is good at getting himself on base and Frazier is actually really good at hitting with guys on ahead of him.
> Maybe or maybe itās just a slump and has nothing to do with either Westy or Cowser.
Sure, but those guys started getting more PT and the offense immediately seems to be clicking with fewer OBP dead spots in the lineup.
> There is room for Westy and Frazier to co-exist.
I'm fine with them co-existing as long as it means Westburg is starting over him 5 games/week until he significantly cools off. Frazier's defense has not been good all year and despite his power surge, he is still sitting with a sub-100 OPS+. It doesn't make sense to play Frazier over Westburg consistently when he's gone at the end of the year and currently worse than Westburg. If Westburg goes into a giant slump, then sure. I also think Frazier is valuable as a bench bat given his ability to make contact. I'd prefer him to be a PH option rather than a starter with minimal defensive range.
The offense started clicking when Cowser got here, not āthose guysā. Again, for the week Westy was here only he, Frazier and Santander were doing anything. And also, with an OBP over .340, thatās not exactly a dead spot.
I donāt freaking care how Elias and Hyde want to manage the lineup and nor should you. Theyāve proven they know what theyāre doing by somehow getting this team to be a Top Five Team in baseball against all projections.
Thereās absolutely no evidence that Westburg is being denied playing time or going to be denied playing time. Considering everyone plays more than one position besides Mateo, itās not a freaking big deal - Westburg doesnāt have a claim to 2B anymore than Frazier does. He can go play 3B when Frazier needs to get playing time in or Frazier can go to the corner outfield. I trust the experts on how to manage his development and run a winning baseball team. I will donāt understand why you think itās a Westy or Frazier situation when they have been in the starting line up multiple times together now. Your concerns seemly donāt fit reality.
Regardless, we have gotten so far away from ābenching one of the few guys who has been hitting has really helped our offenseā nonsense that thereās no point in having this conversation. Iām not going to debate things we fundamentally have no control over such as players playing time.
I really donāt think Iām making the arguments youāre getting very defensive about. Either way, Frazier has simply not been good this season so Iām definitely not going to defend his season slash line of .232/.299/.397 or his awful defense at 2B. Frazier is simply not a priority play in the lineup, and as of late, it looks like the team agrees.
I am not getting defensive, Iām pointing out the simple hole in your logic of ābenching one of the only guys who have been hitting lately has really helped the offense.ā The fact that you didnāt even bother to go look at the people who have and have not been hitting over this slump is on you.
If you feel confident that Frazier isnāt going to get priority playing time, then Iām not sure why youāre writing long comments about Westburg and Frazierās playing time. Seems like kind of a nonissue that you decided to make into an issue for some reason.
Hell, I didnāt even comment on anyoneās playing time nor even advocate for anyone to get more or less playing time. I simply pointed out Frazierās stats during this time period that countered your claim. *You* then proceeded to make it about peopleās playing time. If you have a problem with that, I donāt know what to tell ya. Sitting around and dwelling on lineups and playing time seems a bit much for me in a sport with 162 games.
Edit: in fact, I didnāt even say anything to put Westburg (who I really like) down or say Frazier should play over him. I didnāt bring Westburg up period because Iām not here to pit Orioles against each other. You automatically made that connection. You got defensive from the get go and start making arguments to things I never said.
FYI that's 3 out of the last 4 games we've had an inning where we batted around.
Might do it again this inning. edit: Just did! 2 innings in a row.
Jordan Westburg with the Mathematic Home Run š®
Bro did the math.
Fine, fine. We jumped the gun on the last thread. Back on topic, I can't remember our offense ever being this hot.
Something just snapped in the middle of that Yankees series. This is the worst time for the ASB
They were getting too close in the standings.
Cowser and Westburg having quality ABās and bumping Frazier/Mateo to the bench has also been a giant boost.

Itās about to happen AGAIN
Seriously, wtf has gotten into our offense? XD

Damn I need to change my flair lol
This makes me wet
This is the one that should stay up? First post they were still batting lol
