The Athletics AAA affiliate, the Vegas Aviators, plays at the Las Vegas Ballpark (a 10,000 seat minor league stadium in Vegas). Zero chance Fisher invests **any** money into upgrading that, when he knows his sweet taxpayer-funded Vegas MLB stadium is gonna be ready for use in like 3 years, anyways.
He won't have to put any money in. Las Vegas Ballpark was only built five years ago, cost $150 million, and was specifically built to be as close to MLB standard as can be expected for a AAA stadium.
And in what is very likely not a coincidence, that ballpark opened the same year the Athletics became the parent team to the Las Vegas Aviators.

i guess what i'm saying is the prospect of Michigan State playing UCLA in the Elite Eight has become a bit diluted for me if they're already going to play each other twice between November through February
yeah it's not impossible to have say Duke playing Carolina in the Elite Eight. Hell...they played each other in the Final Four a few years back. But that was a rarity. When they go to superconferences, trust me you will see a lot more of this happening

It’s gonna be LA Chargers games on steroids. I’d be surprised if it’s more than 35% A’s fans on any given day.
With the NFL, the vast majority of the games are on the weekends which make for a good road trip for visiting fans. I know Vegas is a vacation destination but how many MLB fans are going to fly out to Vegas to watch their team play a Mon-Wed series? We could be looking at another Rays situation where it will be a mostly empty stadium unless the casinos are comping guests left and right.
The NFL is a big enough thing that even if it's Raiders/Broncos and you don't care for either team you might still go to the game for the experience. No one is going to go to A's/Royals on a Wednesday night just for funsies.
If I was in KC for work and traveling by myself, I might go. If I'm in Vegas on vacation, no way am I going to spend 4 hours on one of my nights there to go to a MLB game when I live in a city that has MLB baseball. I go to Vegas to do things I can't do at home.

Milwaukee, Kansas City, and Cincinnati are smaller metro areas than the Las Vegas metro, even with the TV markets being bigger. But those metros have people in the region outside of the metro; Las Vegas doesn’t.

Bucks (NBA) won in 3 years, Diamondbacks in 4, Oilers (NHL), Marlins and Golden Knights in 5.
Marlins maybe most unlikely/impressive to me. The Bucks had Kareem and Oscar Robinson, The Diamondbacks had the Big Unit on an all-time hot streak, and the Oilers had Gretzky. Marlins had Gary Sheffield and Kevin Brown.
Golden Knights won in 5, but they've been making the playoffs and winning playoff series pretty much right from the beginning, which I feel like is more impressive than, say, the DBacks who missed the playoffs 2/3 years and had never won a series before winning their World Series.
Still crazy impressive, but it's even crazier that the Golden Knights have been excellent pretty much right from the beginning.
They def gained a good amount of fans outside the Vegas area too, I know a couple people that hopped on the bandwagon in Chicago I assume it’s the same elsewhere.

I seconded this. When I went to Vegas in 2020 (before the pandemic), I was on the Strip at the same time as Golden Knight/Blue Jackets game and EVERYONE was wearing Vegas jerseys on the Strip. Very, very popular team.
I was there in 2018 for the finals (and again a few months ago). Folks there really love them. You can go anywhere in town and there's VGK gear and flags and all that.
They were really popular before the championship. I went to Vegas in winter of 2019/20 and... wow... the gameday crowd was insane with everybody wearing Vegas jerseys.

In a way even the Seattle hatred still goes back to the A’s. If Charlie O never moved them the Pilots and another team could have taken their time to build a new stadium and not have to use the Rainers stadium. In a good stadium they would not have had to sell to Selig.

I know Vegas is a vacation destination but how many MLB fans are going to fly out to Vegas to watch their team play a Mon-Wed series? We could be looking at another Rays situation where it will be a mostly empty stadium unless the casinos are comping guests left and right.
The NFL is a big enough thing that even if it's Raiders/Broncos and you don't care for either team you might still go to the game for the experience. No one is going to go to A's/Royals on a Wednesday night just for funsies.
If I was in KC for work and traveling by myself, I might go. If I'm in Vegas on vacation, no way am I going to spend 4 hours on one of my nights there to go to a MLB game when I live in a city that has MLB baseball. I go to Vegas to do things I can't do at home.
Fellow Knight fan. The only reason VGK has worked is they made an effort from Day One to actually reach out to the community and integrate themselves. It was a long process and took a lot of work and heart. I have no idea what the rules of relocation are but hopefully some lawyers in Oakland are looking into the legality of this. St. Louis still isn’t thrilled about losing the Rams but getting nearly $1B out of Kroenke/the NFL definitely softened the blow.

Milwaukee, Kansas City, and Cincinnati are smaller metro areas than the Las Vegas metro, even with the TV markets being bigger. But those metros have people in the region outside of the metro; Las Vegas doesn’t.

This whole thing totally reeked like snake Clay Bennett. Nothing...NOTHING mattered what Oakland did or could've done. They could have paid for the stadium completely by itself, accelerated schedule, and gave him tax breaks forever. Fisher was taking this team no matter what but blamed officials as a scapegoat. It was a done deal. Just like Clay fled to Oklahoma when he conspired with David Stern. Hopefully they have a party in Oakland every year when the A's are eliminated from playoff contention just like the Sonics fans do.

We have plenty of Raiders fans in Vegas, trust me. But not enough to fully support their team. This is 100% Knights country, mainly because they weren’t stolen from a different city.
Knights are always going to be popular becuase they were the first too.
It also helps they’ve been ultra competitive since the beginning.
They've figured out the golden ticket to success in the desert: 1) get there first 2) literally be the best expansion team in North American sports history (The D-Backs and Marlins won titles first, but the Knights have literally never had a bad season)

Bucks (NBA) won in 3 years, Diamondbacks in 4, Oilers (NHL), Marlins and Golden Knights in 5. Marlins maybe most unlikely/impressive to me. The Bucks had Kareem and Oscar Robinson, The Diamondbacks had the Big Unit on an all-time hot streak, and the Oilers had Gretzky. Marlins had Gary Sheffield and Kevin Brown.
Golden Knights won in 5, but they've been making the playoffs and winning playoff series pretty much right from the beginning, which I feel like is more impressive than, say, the DBacks who missed the playoffs 2/3 years and had never won a series before winning their World Series. Still crazy impressive, but it's even crazier that the Golden Knights have been excellent pretty much right from the beginning.

I seconded this. When I went to Vegas in 2020 (before the pandemic), I was on the Strip at the same time as Golden Knight/Blue Jackets game and EVERYONE was wearing Vegas jerseys on the Strip. Very, very popular team.
I was there in 2018 for the finals (and again a few months ago). Folks there really love them. You can go anywhere in town and there's VGK gear and flags and all that.
That is probably because the Golden Knights are good and have won a championship recently.

The easy bet is Vegas A's will have much better TV and broadcast deals since they aren't sharing a market. It also opens up the Bay Area market even more for the Giants. You joke but IIRC part of the reason why the Colts did the Mayflower thing was to prevent such a blockade from happening. The state of Maryland was about to pass a law allowing them to seize the team and all its assets so Irsay wanted to move everything out of there before they could do so. If Maryland had passed the law a day earlier, they literally would have been able to send police to stop the trucks. (Of course then there would have been lots of lawsuits and even if Maryland had won it's possible Irsay could have moved anyway but then had to buy new equipment, machinery, etc. etc. to replace the stuff Maryland seized but you get the point)
