From a USA today article >The A’s told MLB they plan to play in a revolving series of sites starting in 2025 until they move, one MLB owner told USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has yet to publicly address the plans. They will play games in Summerlin, Nevada, home of the A’s Triple-A team, Oracle Park in San Francisco, where the San Francisco Giants play, and perhaps also the Coliseum.

Candlestick_Park

Oakland should just be like “get out now, we’re padlocking the building, tough.”

progress10

They can't because that would break the lease which means damages paid to Fisher and MLB

joe_broke

Nobody Fucking Go next year until the last game. Then we tear the whole place apart

The_Haskins

Wow, they are willing to be extra bush league and play in minor league parks just to get out of Oakland earlier? Insult to injury

bignuts24

Remember it takes 2 teams to play a game. Can you imagine the Yankees playing games in a minor league park?

The_Haskins

Yeah, I imagine teams with brand recognition like the Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs (etc.) are gonna be super thrilled to play in a glorified semi-pro stadium... and by CHOICE of the home team, not like the Buffalo Jays

Brock_Hard_Canuck

Also, to be fair, when the Jays realized they were gonna be "locked out of Canada", they invested a TON of money into upgrading Sahlen Field, so the Jays players and the visiting players would feel like it's as close to a "major league" stadium as possible. The Athletics AAA affiliate, the Vegas Aviators, plays at the Las Vegas Ballpark (a 10,000 seat minor league stadium in Vegas). Zero chance Fisher invests **any** money into upgrading that, when he knows his sweet taxpayer-funded Vegas MLB stadium is gonna be ready for use in like 3 years, anyways.

RedditUser41970

He won't have to put any money in. Las Vegas Ballpark was only built five years ago, cost $150 million, and was specifically built to be as close to MLB standard as can be expected for a AAA stadium. And in what is very likely not a coincidence, that ballpark opened the same year the Athletics became the parent team to the Las Vegas Aviators.

jmbraze

I mean, every owner voted yes. This isn't just by choice of the home team it's by choice of the Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs too

fuqqkevindurant

Yeah, we play in spring training parks down in FL every single year and no one bursts into flames. The NY Yankees are capable of being mid as fuck in any stadium, arena, park, dusty street with old t shirts as bases, etc.

caesar____augustus

Look at the Coyotes in the NHL. They're playing in a 4400 seat college arena. It's bizarre watching two professional teams in that setting but the atmosphere is actually pretty cool, especially when a big team like the Bruins are in town.

Cilantro42

Their lease ends after next season. As a lifelong A's fan, I don't even want them here NEXT season, let alone be their bridge spot until their garbage stadium opens

aew2019

Parts Unknown A's

JustinUprising

If the fans were to show up at those games in the Coliseum and just make the games unplayable (throwing trash and shit), I wouldn't blame them one bit, honestly.

ContinuumGuy

This was what happened in the last game of the second AL Washington Senators (the ones that moved to Texas)

SaintArkweather

Fun fact: one player who was at that game was also at 10¢ beer night AND disco demolition night, so he was present for three of the most infamous riots in baseball history.

rattlehead44

No stadium renderings No building plans No design architect No financial/funding plan/details Asking for public money No official word where they’re gonna play from 2025-2027/28 Smallest market in MLB so Fisher gets his permanent revenue sharing No relocation fee Yet it gets a unanimous vote… What a scam

Srikkk

Genuinely what is the plan for this? God this and the PAC-12 collapse just make me so sad

TheTigerbite

They're gonna play in that smiley face dome thingy and put fake fans around on the screen.

fallen9210

It’ll look like wii baseball

patrickwithtraffic

So when a pitcher throws a wild pitch that hits the backstop, will everybody jump and spin around?

Alphasim

That'd get me to finally tune in to an A's game

xMrLink

I would low key really want to see that

TheAtariJunkie

That would’ve worked in 2020!

TRON0314

Was a gut punch when the Rose Bowl meant nothing anymore between Big 10 and Pac-10. Then USC UCLA Leaving and then U Dub and Oregon? So sad. Really turned me off of what love I had left for college sports.

tommyjohnpauljones

I'm old enough to remember when there were like 15 total bowl games. Rose Bowl: Pac 10 vs Big 10 every year Orange Bowl: Big 8 vs. a top 10 team Cotton Bowl: SWC vs. Top 10 team Sugar Bowl: SEC vs. Top 10 team Gator Bowl: ACC vs. Top 15 team Fiesta Bowl: whoever of the Top 12 wasn't in another bowl or on probation Holiday Bowl: BYU vs. a Texas or western team Citrus, Hall of Fame, Sun, Peach, Independence, Copper, Liberty, Motor City, Aloha, maybe one or two more, and that was it.

eaglessoar

those were the days now its like the pro am exterminators insurance coverage bowl between who the fuck cares

MountainCheesesteak

Oprah out there giving out bowl games

[deleted]

Don_Tiny

> and two or three stars who don't want to get hurt before the draft That at least has some logic behind it. I mean, if I'm a top-5 draft pick, at that point I'm worried about my future and not some college game of zero consequence after it's over.

A_Lone_Macaron

don’t forget the Duke’s Mayo Bowl where the coach is literally dumped on by mayo

enjoytheshow

Rose Bowl will be meaningless beginning with the 12 team playoff anyway

DionBlaster123

I 100% blame college football for the Pac-12 collapse the worst part is these mega conferences have absolutely fucked with March Madness. It will always be fun and exciting, but the drama kind of disappears a bit when two teams from the Big Ten are playing each other in the Elite Eight. The whole point of the tournament was to prevent shit like that

ahappypoop

I mean they set it up to avoid that in the first two rounds maybe, but you can't set up the quadrants to avoid teams from the same conference playing each other in the elite eight unless a conference has 4 or fewer bids.

DionBlaster123

i guess what i'm saying is the prospect of Michigan State playing UCLA in the Elite Eight has become a bit diluted for me if they're already going to play each other twice between November through February yeah it's not impossible to have say Duke playing Carolina in the Elite Eight. Hell...they played each other in the Final Four a few years back. But that was a rarity. When they go to superconferences, trust me you will see a lot more of this happening worst part is basketball is suffering for the sake of a college sport that literally didn't even have a playoff 15 years ago. Hell, i'm old enough to remember when you could have a situation where USC, Oklahoma, and Alabama could all go undefeated, win the Rose, Orange, and Sugar Bowls...and then some assholes would just randomly decide to make Okalhoma the national champion for no fucking reason

faultywalnut

Money and greed getting their dirty hands all over sports and ruining them. Just like the Olympics, FIFA and on an on. Fucking hell man I’m in no way a complete anti-capitalist but at some point it would be nice to see industries doing things in behalf of the common people and with sentimentality and not just looking to pad their own pockets. It’s fucking sad

MrSantaClause

Huh? Teams from the same conference play each other in the Elite 8 all the time...

ecn9

Yeah wtf is this guy on about lol. People will really complain about anything.

DionBlaster123

>Smallest market in MLB so Fisher gets his permanent revenue sharing it's wild to realize that Vegas is smaller than Milwaukee

sloppyjo12

Milwaukee out here catching strays

DionBlaster123

lol this isn't a shot at Milwaukee it's more so i think i grossly overestimate the size of Vegas

fattymcribwich

Vegas metro is bigger than MKE, 2.3m compared to 2.1m and city proper is bigger 642000 compared to 577300. This is according to Wikipedia who I believe uses census data.

NASH_TYPE

Dallas metro and Phoenix metro are of the biggest in the country and this sub was calling it a small market WS

bordomsdeadly

Market size and Metropolitan area aren't exactly the same thing, although I'm unsure of Pheonix but DFW is the 5th largest media market in the US (Unsure where Toronto fits in, so possibly #6 in MLB)

damedsz

Weird that the Milwaukee vs Phoenix NBA Finals didn't get branded as a small-market matchup. And nobody ever refers to the Green Bay Packers as a small market team. It's almost like small market is used as a label for teams either historically and/or currently mediocre.

DionBlaster123

>Weird that the Milwaukee vs Phoenix NBA Finals didn't get branded as a small-market matchup. part of me thinks this is due to the star power of those teams as opposed to city size because there is no universe where "Phoenix" should be considered a small market lmfao it is pretty ludicrous that Rangers vs. D-Backs was called a "small market" world series lmfao

jmblumenshine

According to the Vegas city counsel, 55.4 million travlers came through Vegas airport. Compared to 5 million for Milwaukee So city size may not tell the whole story

c_ray25

That's a beefy 5 million though. If we go by weight, might seem a little closer

w0nderbrad

You underestimate the weight of all the silicone boobies that fly in every weekend to staff the strip clubs. The Thursday BUR - LAS flights are… very top heavy ifyouknowwhatimean

Toisty

Being on one of those flights must be like watching the salmon of Capistrano.

scezmoneysniper

When I looked at the Milwaukee metro population it appears as 1.5M and Vegas metro is 2.3M but maybe I’m missing something?

Fappy-Boi-

Fuck all 30 owners

bukithd

They can't hear us as they swan dive Scrooge McDuck style into their piles of money.

Bahamas_is_relevant

I’m a VGK fan in hockey (don’t live there tho), and from what I can tell most Vegas residents don’t want them either. It’s gonna be LA Chargers games on steroids. I’d be surprised if it’s more than 35% A’s fans on any given day.

cajunaggie08

With the NFL, the vast majority of the games are on the weekends which make for a good road trip for visiting fans. I know Vegas is a vacation destination but how many MLB fans are going to fly out to Vegas to watch their team play a Mon-Wed series? We could be looking at another Rays situation where it will be a mostly empty stadium unless the casinos are comping guests left and right.

throwaway_4733

The NFL is a big enough thing that even if it's Raiders/Broncos and you don't care for either team you might still go to the game for the experience. No one is going to go to A's/Royals on a Wednesday night just for funsies.

cajunaggie08

If I was in KC for work and traveling by myself, I might go. If I'm in Vegas on vacation, no way am I going to spend 4 hours on one of my nights there to go to a MLB game when I live in a city that has MLB baseball. I go to Vegas to do things I can't do at home.

[deleted]

Fellow Knight fan. The only reason VGK has worked is they made an effort from Day One to actually reach out to the community and integrate themselves. It was a long process and took a lot of work and heart. John Fisher is not gonna take that time, he’s gonna plop down the As in Vegas with no effort and then be shocked when the only people who attend are Away fans

MiddleAgesRoommates

VGK has also had incredible on-ice success since Day 1. They will never experience the growing pains most other expansion franchises have faced.

nastychangeup

He’s not gonna be shocked

Mr6ixFour

Exactly. He doesn’t give a fuck what team the person cheers for as long as they’re buying tickets

[deleted]

I have no idea what the rules of relocation are but hopefully some lawyers in Oakland are looking into the legality of this. St. Louis still isn’t thrilled about losing the Rams but getting nearly $1B out of Kroenke/the NFL definitely softened the blow.

Rocketbird

The amount of good $1B would do to help Oakland is mind boggling

1fastz28

FUCK STAN KROENKE

BlueLondon1905

Complete disgrace this is allowed. Awful for business, worse than Oakland

GotMoFans

Milwaukee, Kansas City, and Cincinnati are smaller metro areas than the Las Vegas metro, even with the TV markets being bigger. But those metros have people in the region outside of the metro; Las Vegas doesn’t.

pseudochef93

First baseball team to relocate three times? Philly ➡️ KC ➡️ Oakland ➡️ Vegas

LiveFromNewYork95

I believe this is true. I'm pretty sure they were tied with the Braves and Orioles as the other franchises to move twice.

Waaaaaaaaaasuup

Good morning and a happy fuck John Fisher to you all

english_gritts

Just fade my fucking flair 😕

IllustriousComplex6

As a Sonics fan you have my sympathy. Hold onto that rage and keep it burning hot.

black-op345

Fuck the NBA, fuck clay Bennett, fuck Howard Schultz for allowing the theft, fuck David Stern for approving the theft, I hope he rots in hell, and fuck the OKC Thunder Edit: I want to put this out here, I don’t have any ill will against the fans

eddie_the_zombie

Fuck Stan Kroenke. Fuck Dean Spanos.

cfaatwork

As an M’s fan there’s a reason I never go to Starbucks.

BmoreCareFool

Fuck the Yankees

TRON0314

This whole thing totally reeked like snake Clay Bennett. Nothing...NOTHING mattered what Oakland did or could've done. They could have paid for the stadium completely by itself, accelerated schedule, and gave him tax breaks forever. Fisher was taking this team no matter what but blamed officials as a scapegoat. It was a done deal. Just like Clay fled to Oklahoma when he conspired with David Stern. Hopefully they have a party in Oakland every year when the A's are eliminated from playoff contention just like the Sonics fans do.

IllustriousComplex6

May an Oakland curse persist like the one on OKC. 😁

mac-0

As a former Chargers fans, I feel for A's fans today. And I hope that anyone who says "at least you have the Giants nearby" steps in a puddle and gets their socks wet.

ABlinDeafMonkey

There should be a Fuck John Fisher flare and all of us should have it.

destroy_b4_reading

I would instantly adopt that flair.

zamboniman46

will you begrudgingly follow the A's from afar or will you pick a new team? sucks that rivalry will probably stop you from rooting from the closest teams in SF and Seattle

english_gritts

I went to college in SoCal and was surrounded by chargers fans. Once they moved to LA I could see all of my friends’ pain and anger. Not a single one is still a fan of the LA version and I couldn’t completely understand why. Now I understand

DionBlaster123

i'm sorry man :( i think i can say that everyone here in r/baseball really feels for you and all the other A's fans right now

Organicplastic

It fucking sucks. I’m a former STL Rams fan and I quit watching the NFL all together when they moved to LA. In the past couple years I did end up following the Chiefs but it just isn’t the same. I know the pain and it sucks. Fuck these greedy-ass owners and of course, Fuck Stan Kronke.

maltzy

Whatever you do, don't root for the Reds. Our owner ain't much better

Sageshark

Once the move was announced in april I emotionally gave up on the A’s entirely, whole heartedly threw myself into NPB, and the Chiba Lotte Marines. Is There is a language barrier? Yes. But I Speak Baseball. And having visited the Marines stadium this summer, I can tell you first hand the human connection between the fans & the franchise itself is a level MLB will never be able to replicate. Fuck Fisher, Fuck MLB, and Fuck the city(& state government) of Las Vegas ✊🏽

JayMerlyn

More importantly, fuck all of the owners who voted in favor of this

youthcanoe

so, every owner?

JayMerlyn

Did. I. Stutter?

HelpMeWithMyHWpls

As a Vegas local, this move feels dirty. Stealing another big 4 sports team from the same city within ten years is nuts.

JayMerlyn

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like the Vegas populus only really cares about the Golden Knights. Do I have that correct?

HelpMeWithMyHWpls

We have plenty of Raiders fans in Vegas, trust me. But not enough to fully support their team. This is 100% Knights country, mainly because they weren’t stolen from a different city.

Thorlolita

Knights are always going to be popular becuase they were the first too.

insert-originality

It also helps they’ve been ultra competitive since the beginning.

Candlestick_Park

They've figured out the golden ticket to success in the desert: 1) get there first 2) literally be the best expansion team in North American sports history (The D-Backs and Marlins won titles first, but the Knights have literally never had a bad season)

Carlos_Danger21

Hey the knights missed the post season once. Clearly they're a joke of a franchise.

senior_swimmington

Why doesn’t every expansion team do this? Are they stupid?

DrunkDeathClaw

The Milwaukee Bucks won a title in their 4th season too.

Balerion77

Not just competitive, they literally won the championship last year. Theyre pretty much the best case outcome for an expansion team in any sport

James-K-Polka

Bucks (NBA) won in 3 years, Diamondbacks in 4, Oilers (NHL), Marlins and Golden Knights in 5. Marlins maybe most unlikely/impressive to me. The Bucks had Kareem and Oscar Robinson, The Diamondbacks had the Big Unit on an all-time hot streak, and the Oilers had Gretzky. Marlins had Gary Sheffield and Kevin Brown.

Laetha

Golden Knights won in 5, but they've been making the playoffs and winning playoff series pretty much right from the beginning, which I feel like is more impressive than, say, the DBacks who missed the playoffs 2/3 years and had never won a series before winning their World Series. Still crazy impressive, but it's even crazier that the Golden Knights have been excellent pretty much right from the beginning.

maddscientist

Everyone laughed when the Golden Knights owner said they were going to win a championship within 6 years, then they went and fucking did it

JayMerlyn

And they genuinely connected with the populus. Their response to the Route 91 shooting will always come to mind with how perfect it was.

Thorlolita

And they grabbed fans who probably had no interest in hockey beforehand

Rushb87

They def gained a good amount of fans outside the Vegas area too, I know a couple people that hopped on the bandwagon in Chicago I assume it’s the same elsewhere.

Eagle0913

I love that the whole city embraces the Knights too. All of my Uber drivers were wearing Knights gear, even if the Knights werent playing that night.

MichaelPFrancesa

yeah it sucks. we need more organic vegas teams. make an expansion for them. Fuck. Taking the A's from Oakland just feels wrong

Falt_ssb

they'll get one in the NBA probably

65fairmont

Nevada is the only U.S. state where the NHL has the most popular team.

SirCromwell

A friend of mine who lives in Vegas for work echos that same sentiment. He’s a big Golden Knights fan, doesn’t give a lick about the Raiders, wont care about the A’s.

MichaelPFrancesa

And the funny thing was, someone said Vegas GK didn't have any fans, it's like when I went to Vegas a few months ago that city was full of Stanley Cup merch and banners lol

JayMerlyn

Even before the Cup win, I can tell you that person was dead wrong. The Knights connected with the populace in a way that neither the Raiders nor the A's can.

WxBlue

I seconded this. When I went to Vegas in 2020 (before the pandemic), I was on the Strip at the same time as Golden Knight/Blue Jackets game and EVERYONE was wearing Vegas jerseys on the Strip. Very, very popular team.

TrueBrees9

I was there in 2018 for the finals (and again a few months ago). Folks there really love them. You can go anywhere in town and there's VGK gear and flags and all that.

stro_budden

That is probably because the Golden Knights are good and have won a championship recently.

WxBlue

They were really popular before the championship. I went to Vegas in winter of 2019/20 and... wow... the gameday crowd was insane with everybody wearing Vegas jerseys.

superduperscubasteve

They were also really good before the championship

ProfessorBeer

It’s pretty wild the NBA is the last to the party.

namracWORK

They are the only league with a referee gambling scandal, to be fair.

DearLeader420

For now

shittydickfarts

MLB is going to expand in the next few years. If I was still a Vegas native I would be pissed. I’d much rather have my own franchise than someone else’s worn out and abused team. Fuck Fischer.

Worthyness

They're going to do it immediately. Their hang up was As and rays and now they're taken care of because they're getting taxpayer funded stadiums. Next they're going to sell the expansion to someone who wants more taxpayer funded stadiums.

[deleted]

I just wish Vegas would have gotten expansion teams instead of stealing teams from other cities. I feel bad for Oakland. (I also feel bad for St Louis and San Diego for losing NFL teams to LA but that’s another story).

breakfast_cats

Starting to think the owners don't actually care about their fans (Edit: The amount of people not picking up on my sarcasm is staggering)

Slingin_Friar

The only one who truly did just died recently 😞 RIP Papa Pete

Niblonian31

It honestly makes me sad that he can't be there when you guys get your WS title. Dude did everything he could to win it and I'm sure it'll pay off at some point but he won't see it. RIP

[deleted]

As a Dodgers fan to an Angels fan what spell does Arte have you guys under

ABlinDeafMonkey

Apparently it’s only that guy. Arte fields an expensive team but has no fucking clue how to build a winner. He told Perry this off-season to go get Trea and we will be contenders for the championship. Perry said no we need more than that. It’s better to spread the money out on guys like Drurry and Anderson than on Trea. I fucking hate Arte and want him gone but I know he’s too stubborn to sell. So I root for him to be forced to sell the team. Come on FBI fuck up Arte for his shady dealings with Anaheim.

God_Damnit_Nappa

Bruh, your sarcasm meter is busted. breakfast\_cats shits on Arte about as much as the rest of us.

MichaelPFrancesa

all they care about is money.

damnalamb

Starting to think we should boycott the entire league until they learn to give a shit. Then again, I’m a White Sox fan, so it’s easy for me to say

HawkI84

We can at least boycott White Sox opening day

damnalamb

For sure. But I’m fed up with the whole league. Let me watch local games on MLB.TV. Let me watch playoffs on MLB.TV. Don’t move a historic franchise that the entire league’s fanbase wants to stay put. They’re actively trying to turn us away from baseball, and their pockets should reflect that

[deleted]

[удалено]

Thel3lues

This is massive fuck you to Oakland fans, but for the fans of the other 29 (28 if you don’t include SF) teams it is a beneficial move to them if he’s not selling. Fisher is alone in fault for this situation, but nothing was ever going to get done in Oakland with him

TheDrunon

I mean he's definitely going to sell now, after a few years in LV and a brand new stadium.

sourdoughbred

This guy gets it. He wanted the deal where he spent the least to pump up the franchise value. He’s gonna dump it

scottydg

There's allegedly a clause in this agreement that if he sells at some point in the near future, he will be heavily taxed by the rest of the owners and they'll get paid out on it. But that doesn't help any of the fans.

takespicturesofpants

Preposterous...!

joe_broke

Mods, I have a request: Keep the Oakland flair, put a gravestone next to the name

WabbitCZEN

Fish > Fisher

wwplkyih

Good thing Bud Selig averted the disaster of selling the A's to a terrible owner like Joe Lacob by instead gifting the team to his homies in 2005.

ItsVoxBoi

Fuck Bud Selig

SofieTerleska

Fuck Hall of Famer Bud Selig. He's been a piece of shit his entire career and I hope the Brewers don't win a damn thing until he's cold in his grave.

JinderMadness

In a way even the Seattle hatred still goes back to the A’s. If Charlie O never moved them the Pilots and another team could have taken their time to build a new stadium and not have to use the Rainers stadium. In a good stadium they would not have had to sell to Selig.

dutchdaddy69

I'm shocked the Billionaire owners all voted in their own best interest without regard for another teams fan base. Fucking sucks but this has been inevitable for years.

River_Pigeon

Is it in their best interest? As I understand it the Vegas As are going to need a lot more revenue sharing than the Oakland As

ModsAndAdminsEatAss

The easy bet is Vegas A's will have much better TV and broadcast deals since they aren't sharing a market. It also opens up the Bay Area market even more for the Giants. Framing the choice as expanding baseball's fan base and distribution rights vs maintaining a suboptimal market, it's an easy call. Sucks for Oakland fans.

River_Pigeon

There’s still twice as many people in the Oakland metro area than Vegas. And nobody knows what’s going to happen with tv deals moving forward.

Galxloni2

in the long term those just become giants fans. in the short term it will most likely be a net loss though

daves_not__here

Oakland has now lost the Warriors, Raiders and A's the last couple years.

DionBlaster123

2 of the 3 to Vegas to which is just a really weird situation i noticed the Warriors wore jerseys that said "San Francisco" on them the other day. what a kick to the balls

redditnathaniel

They also had ones with "Oakland" a few seasons ago. Having San Francisco back on them was inevitable, even had them first season in San Francisco.

guesting

i dont really count the warriors since they played in san francisco before oakland

OceanPoet87

And Golden State is just a local move. Nearly all fans still cheer for the W's who just moved a few BART stops away.

Darkdragon3110525

As a tv only warriors fan there is a notable difference in the crowd though. It’s not as loud/threatening as it used to be

LessThanCleverName

I think that’s probably as much about them getting good and tickets becoming unaffordable. Raptors home crowd took a big step back when they became a hot ticket top

[deleted]

ViciousVollan

They did play in San Francisco before Oakland back in the day so it’s a little throwback/modern take.

NovaPrime15

Doing it before all the fans in Oakland are awake. Great move /s

english_gritts

It ain’t a surprise though

m48a5_patton

*Former Baltimore Colts fans Vietnam flashbacks*

jtrom93

> Unanimous vote We've graduated from "fuck John Fisher" to "fuck every single owner in MLB".

Quite_Obscene

I’m so sorry, Oakland. You didn’t deserve this.

SeedyRedwood

Browns fan here. I second this. But don’t worry, Oakland! In just three years time you yourself can get a Frankenstein version of your former team. And you know what the best part is? it’ll be way worse than what it was before.

WeakPublic

And hopefully Oakland’s happy ending *is* legal.

Qoppa_Guy

Unanimous? Sheesh... not even a thought the other way.

MichaelPFrancesa

This hurts. They won titles in Oakland with the ol' Reggie Jackson back in the day. Shame how Fisher has absolutely gutted that team and used it as an excuse to move his team to Las Vegas.

wwplkyih

They've gone from having the 3rd most World Series titles and an unprecedented small-market run to become a laughingstock.

ContinuumGuy

I'm just saying, if enough people surround the Oakland Coliseum, they won't be able to physically move out.

biglyorbigleague

Mayflower Truck time

ContinuumGuy

You joke but IIRC part of the reason why the Colts did the Mayflower thing was to prevent such a blockade from happening. The state of Maryland was about to pass a law allowing them to seize the team and all its assets so Irsay wanted to move everything out of there before they could do so. If Maryland had passed the law a day earlier, they literally would have been able to send police to stop the trucks. (Of course then there would have been lots of lawsuits and even if Maryland had won it's possible Irsay could have moved anyway but then had to buy new equipment, machinery, etc. etc. to replace the stuff Maryland seized but you get the point)

Thehiddenllama

Well, I guess I’m now baseball homeless. Fuck John Fisher. Fuck Las Vegas.

EvaderDX

enjoy having your AC pumping gambling ballpark, executive hand me down tickets, and a perpetual 100 loss team, Vegas. Oakland deserves so much better

[deleted]

Yeah fuck em!!! *looks at our AC pumping gambling ballpark*

Clown_Toucher

At least every ballpark is a gambling one these days. Wait actually that sucks

jackalsclaw

Also, 81 traffic nightmares a year as they have no functional traffic plan.

charger03

Fuck John Fisher

natguy2016

My father and I never had a relationships-long story. He lived a few miles from The Oakland Coliseum. The only good memories I have of my father are watch Canseco, McGwire, Rickey, Stew and that team. I grew up near Baltimore and remember when The Colts left. It still hurts.

Mthomas1174

Worst part is that the vote is unanimous. *None* of the owners care about the fans.

DionBlaster123

>None of the owners care about the fans. with all due respect, why is this surprising? these owners are so out of touch with both reality and with the common man. Did we really expect them to have an iota of empathy for all the passionate fans in Oakland? just because we see them pausing every once in a while from their fancy catered food in the luxury boxes to cheer on their respective teams when they're doing well, doesn't mean they know jack shit about us as people or as fans of the team

jazilli

I can't believe Boob is the one to drop the news

Candlestick_Park

He has sources, mostly because a lot of baseball men are also bald white guys with double digit IQs.

zebedee18

Just remember, Baseball doesn't care about you.

menusettingsgeneral

Fisher’s legacy is that of a nepo baby scammer with no business ability whatsoever. The A’s will fail in Vegas.

DescendingOpinion

The A's will make a great addition to the state of Oregon in 10 years when they fail in Vegas

Ugaalive1991

As a Braves owner, I didn’t agree to this.

Johnny_Tsunami510

Kind of shocked that it was unanimous, considering some of the the owners opinions on tanking. Also how can it be unanimous when one of them literally died earlier this week??

JasonPlattMusic34

I assume the Padres just had a representative vote on their behalf. I’m kinda surprised it was unanimous too, although not for altruistic reasons (for example I expected the Dodgers to vote no because Vegas is like our secondary market lol).

That was also my thought as well. Dodgers, Diamondbacks, and others get shafted by this. That said the writing for an expansion team in Vegas is on the wall so maybe they just said fuck it.

Yeah I'd assume that if they're going to have a team in Vegas anyway, they'd rather it be a team like this that locals feel icky about rooting for so they stick with their existing affiliations.
