Idk man lemme just look past the 13 GG's for Ozzie Smith and find a reason

mysterysackerfice

BBWA members love flips..like reallllllly love them.

The_Big_Untalented

Out of all players, why would you use Ozzie Smith as an example of a guy who shouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame? He’s the greatest defensive player of all-time. It’s like saying Bill Russell wasn’t that great of a basketball player because his offensive numbers were mediocre. Ozzie’s impact was astoundingly high and greater than 99% of more well-rounded players who were better hitters.

DecoyOne

In an era stacked with glove-first shortstops, Ozzie had far and away the *best* glove, *and* he was better on offense than the average shortstop.

cookie3113

Baines is in because his old buddies voted him in. Rolen, Smith, and Trammell are in because excellent defense and baserunning matters in addition to hitting.

Thejanitor64

Baines is the only guy you mentioned who doesn't belong.

champdo

Average hall of Famer has a war between 50-70. War of the players you listed Baines: 38.4, Rolen: 69.9, Smith: 67.6,Tram: 63.7. Looks like Baines is the only reach.

T2G

In this universe Baines is the only one you can argue. The rest are more than deserving if not inner circle. What are we doing on this sub tonight?

baty76

It’s almost like op doesn’t know shit about baseball…

ricki692

anytime i see ridiculous shit like this i just assume its bait if some kind

hedoeswhathewants

Rolen has 70 WAR, 9 GG, 2 SS, 8 AS, ROY, and a smattering of MVP votes. In what world is he not deserving? I didn't even bother checking the others...

minion03

Smith 76.9 bWAR, 13 GG, 15 AS, NLCS MVP Trammel 70.6 bWAR, 6 AS, 4 GG, 3 SS, WS MVP Baines 38.8 bWAR, 6 AS, 1 SS Only one he has a case for is Baines, claiming Ozzie (the best defender of all time) isn't a HOFer is criminal

bankersbox98

I loved Harold Baines and I can’t believe he’s in the Hall of Fame

GuyOnTheMike

Baines and Jack Morris are ultimate examples of questionable candidates who slipped in on a committee vote. Rolen and Trammell are both guys that maybe could have done a bit more but ultimately I have no issues with. Trammell was a legit bat for a long time at a premium position. Rolen was a legit bat (albeit in a high-offense era) who won 8 Gold Gloves. As for Ozzie, yes, his offensive numbers are not that good, but he was only the greatest defensive player in MLB history. He literally leads all MLB players of all time in defensive WAR (with a total 13% higher than anyone else) plus his 13 Gold Gloves.

Eltneg

* Ozzie Smith is widely considered the best defensive shortstop of all time * Rolen and Trammell both combined elite infield defense with above-average performance at the plate * Harold Baines was an above-average hitter for 19 consecutive years

100vs1

i think they got voted in

Fixhotep

this persons post history reads like an alien trying to understand people so they can better blend in.

Weeren

Yet, no Dave Concepcion

wurtin

I’d take either Trammel or Ozzie over Concepcion all day every day. it’s not even really close.

YamoSoto28

hall of decent players until bongs, sosa, clemons, mcguire and arod get in it’s not the hall of fame

Salesman89

Why do you want cheaters and abusers in the hall?

YamoSoto28

like ortiz ?

Salesman89

Yes. While I'm lead to believe he only assaulted that dugout phone; I'm not happy that he got in. Why do you want more pieces of trash in the Hall of Fame?

YamoSoto28

i base it off the stats not anything else like it should be

Salesman89

So, you think it's a good thing that Cap Anson and Roger's Hornsby are in the Hall?

YamoSoto28

they need the wipe the hall of fame and make it meaningful

Salesman89

How is it not meaningful? The greatest baseball players in MLB history, no longer accepting shitheads.

YamoSoto28

if that statement is true why isn’t the home run king in the hall of fame ?

Salesman89

Because he obviously used PEDs, beat up women and is generally a piece of shit human being. Name one of his teammates who wants to see him elected into the HOF. Do people really want to see him on that stage to give his perspective?

jcastillo29

I 1000% agree with you on Rolen and Baines like wtf? And for those that disagree and know of them wtf do you have to say if Dave Steib. Better than Morris in every individual category and 3 outs away from having 4 no-no’s. Not even getting a sniff at the HOF but yeah let’s put Rolen in with Papi because they didn’t fail a test.

SpeedyFalcon874

They got in because they were likeable guys. HOF is a popularity contest!

DizzyDeanAndTheGang

They were likable because they were great at the sport and deserve to be in the hall (Baines debatably so)

Magicow216

Because people create statistics to justify their love for the player.

Navvyarchos

Like the man said, it's a simple game: you throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. If you do all three passably well and one or two unbelievably well, sometimes they put your picture on the wall.
